Learn the Secrets Top Magazine Editors Use to Build Teams, Audiences, and Brands. In today’s crowded marketplace, selling a quality product is not enough. To stand out, businesses must tell compelling stories and build relationships with potential customers—and prospective employees—who have become evermore discerning, supporting companies that align with their own values.
While this may seem daunting, it can be done. In fact, magazine editors have mastered these skills for decades, creating trusted brands that attract loyal followers in their longtime readers and dedicated staffers, who often live out the messages of the publications in their own lives.
With more than two decades of experience building brands at the world’s largest media companies, Victor Maze pulls back the curtain, revealing the leadership secrets of top editors—many of whom have gone on to run the content and marketing departments of major corporations ranging from Netflix to Nike.

I highly recommend this book if you’re a business leader - but also highly recommend it if you're not! It's so well-written and full of personal anecdotes, that it reads like your favorite story (which also happens to provide top-notch professional leadership advice). Truly anyone can enjoy it and benefit from these words of wisdom, and apply it to their everyday life. And as Maze points out, not everyone begins their careers with leadership in mind. Oftentimes these positions appear mid-career, and many have not been formally trained in management. That's where I found myself in my past job, and really wish I had this book on hand during that time.
I also have to say, I loved the fresh approach on business from an editor's perspective - one that not many are privy to. Maze invites us into this world, and reveals invaluable insider tips from himself and other award-winning editors/business leaders. His easy-to-digest MY STAMP Method outlines how to put your own unique stamp on your leadership style, and provides the tools you need to lead your team, your business, and your customers to success.
So relevant for leaders at all levels: starting a biz, seasoned entrepreneur, stepping up in an org, or thinking about doing something different. Maze has a fun and easy to understand style that makes concepts I used to find hard (like figuring out my vision!) and makes it easy and relatable. Love this guide and how it relates to editorship.
