He is criminal profiler Scarlett Bell’s worst nightmare—a serial killer who preys on families and children, a murderer who strikes like a bolt of lightning and leaves no trail.
The butchering of an innocent family is enough to bring Scarlett to her knees, but she realizes the danger is just beginning. The Laughing Man is targeting anyone with ties to the investigation.
Except for one man.
Logan Wolf, a legendary serial killer and fugitive from the FBI is helping Scarlett and her team find The Laughing Man. His friends and family members are untouched, meaning The Laughing Man knows better than to challenge Wolf.
Should Scarlett allow Wolf to stalk the killer alone? Can she put Wolf’s life at risk?
But the longer Scarlett takes to decide whether to place Wolf in the crosshairs, the more innocents will die.
All I can say is WOW! I have read all of Dan Padavona’s Bell and Wolf series, as well as the Thomas Shepherd series. This book is the third novel involving the infamous Laughing Man, a serial killer in a class by himself. He is uber violent, seemingly unstoppable and has been on a mission to viciously murder those close to the FBI team tracking him down. This installment is tying all together: the tensions between agents Gardy and Logan Wolf, both very close to agent Scarlett Bell, a renowned profiler. The likely sociopathic Deputy Director of their BAU unit Magnus Carter slowly emerges as someone other than a fellow FBI friendly. Logan Wolf, a serial killer of serial killers, has vowed to protect Scarlett Bell from anybody who tries to harm her, at any cost and from any person. The book moves fast from the beginning and keeps ramping up to the very end. It is hard to tell who is chasing down who, all the gears spinning, finally leading to a conclusion that is so intense, you can kiss a good night’s sleep goodbye. I feel this is best read in sequence, there are 11 before this one. But it also can be read as a standalone, with just enough flashbacks included to make it work. Look for bundles that Amazon sometimes offers. I was honored to have received this book as an ARC reader, and this is my honest review.
A Logan and Scarlett Serial Killer Thriller Book 12 by Dan Padavona, The Lies We Bury is a fast-paced, dynamic thriller, with excellent characters and believably tense scenarios.
There is tension and danger on all sides, for disgraced FBI profiler Scarlett Bell and her willing sidekick Agent Gardy, as their boss can't be trusted and not one but two Serial killers are targeting both them and their friends.
Will fugitive killer Logan Wolf be Scarlett's only hope of survival?
Lies We Bury is an unputdownable psychological thriller - hurry to the bookstore for your copy to find out the chilling truth!
I have really loved this series until this book. "The Laughing Man" character was introduced at the end of book 9. He ESCAPED from prison in book 10, yet in this book, the author decided to say he had never been caught... The retired profiler claims he stopped killing for 18 months for no understandable reason. ?? Does the author not read or remember his own books? I felt like this book added characters for the sole purpose of having more kills in the story line, none of which added to the plot at all. The inconsistency from one book to the next is unfortunate and disappointing.
When Logan is spotted near a murder the FBI issue a new alert on this fugitive; A man-hunt is imminent and it’s only a matter of time until Deputy Director Carter will start the hunt on Bell and Gardy, twisting the narrative that he didn’t know about Wolf but found out Bell and Gardy have been aiding and abetting FBI’s most-wanted fugitive. The Laughing Man is still at large so the danger is bigger than before.
This was the best Logan Wolf, Scarlett Bell book I the series. It did not disappoint! The story built ad built until the climax, which I will not give away, but believe me, it is worth the read! The suspense is heightened and will have you on the edge. So glad that Gardy has come to realize that Wolf is with him, not against him. I'm eager to read the next story, please.
One serial killer on the loose, FBI Agents and the killer of killers are tracking their suspects, yet nothing is as it seems. In an intense and complex ongoing story, it's certainly going to come to a head, but who will come out on top? It's a story and series not to be missed! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
I just couldn't put this book down all day. The drama and suspense were just killing me as the bad people in the story were killed. I just love the dynamics between the characters in this story. And the story of good vs evil? Not sure which one won in this book, depends.on who you'd ask. But sure was suspenseful and interesting.
Is anything (literary) on the horizon for the four survivors of a sociopathic narcissist?
After enduring years of emotional abuse, mortal danger, and now, ostracism, Bell, Gardy and Wolf unravel Magnus Carter’s dirty, Machiavellian secret. Now they’re on his hit list, while the Laughing Man stalks them all.
The Lies We Bury ( Logan and Scarlett Serial Killer Thriller Book 12) Dan Padavona
The third book on the Laughing Man serial killer and what an exciting three it has been. The hunted threesome are now together facing whatever is a head by no fault of their own. They have faced many dangers and lies. What is a head is unknown.
The story is a good continuation of this series. However having Gardy constantly whining became tiresome quickly. There are some continuity issues as well. The story is good and you will enjoy it if you’ve read the others. However if you are someone who gets distracted by editorial oversights this may not be a great read.
A book with non stop action. Logan, Gardy, and Scarlett ate still going after the Laughing Man. They are wanted criminals and hiding from the police. Their investigation leads them to learn about their director and it's hard to believe what they find. The book was hard to put down.
Wow!!! In my opinion The Lies We Bury is one crazy ride. Carter has gone off the deep end. He is doing unthinkable things. I had somethings figured out about Carter and they were confirmed. Dan Padavona gave me murder, mayhem, suspense and action. I could feel the tension between Gardy and Wolf. I really loved this book not sure where Bell, Gardy and Wolf will end up. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.
As usual, the threesome of Bell, Gardy and Wolf never let you down. I hope this is not the end for Scarlett and Wolf. I love this series and hate to see it end. Great writing again Dan Padavona. Can’t wait for the next book.
You want to sit on the edge of your seat, with an audible heart pounding, your pulse racing, reading as fast as you can and all the while hoping for the best outcome possible? Then this is the book you shouldn't miss. Great intense read!
I think I actually held my breath for the last chapter of the book! Really great writing and series of characters. Love this series! One of my favorites.
I can't wait to read the next installment in this series. Without giving anything away, I was totally surprised by the ending. I'm now wondering, what happens from here??
Good wrap up to a scenario of scary people with power hungry intentions. The intent to create a position based on lies sounds a lot like today's insanity.
A nail-biting, unputdownable thriller. Twists, turns, ups and downs, it has it all. Will have you tearing through the pages. It is Dan Padavona at his best.
