With a certification earned, Wanda is officially an Apprentice Alchemist, yet her work has only just begun.
Wanda will need to hunt more occorites in order to help Wumble grow, a task ill-suited to most alchemists. To remedy the situation, she joins a temporary team composed of the finest fellow wizards… that were available.
Paired with an unusual trio, Wanda and Wumble set out with the intent of a cautious expedition, unaware of the hidden threat lying in wait. When their trip takes an unexpected turn, the team will find themselves stranded in a series of underground tunnels. Between the twisting terrain, ample occorites, and a scheming sentry blocking the exit, escaping will prove a tall task even for Wanda and Wumble.
Luckily this time, they have help.
This brand new Fantasy Series from bestseller Drew Hayescontinues with Book 3!
Roverpowered features a lovable pair of heroes out on their first adventure, learning about both magic and life in a progression fantasy suitable for all ages!
The duo Wanda and Wumble are in need of an adventuring group to grow and become beter at their magic. As such they set out to find one, a task not that easy lots of taling to other people isn't your strong suit.
This was just al pleasant fuzzy read. Drew Hayes has a way of making worlds an characters that just click for me. Combined with the short length and upbeat tone made this a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Wanda and Wumble continue their adventure. This episode has them teaming up with their first official adventuring party. One of the days, they are going to figure out something is going on with the dog, Wumble, but until then there are plenty of surprises and more adventures.
Wow! Soooooooo. Amazing! And just plain fun. Drew Hayes packs so much fun in these novelette's that I hardly believe it. And let me iterate these are novelette's so don't cry for longer stories. You've been warned! In this book Wumble takes care of the action when it comes to saving Wanda from the monsters. When she and her team are trapped by a beast of a monster, one that has plans to eat 'em. And again little does Wanda know how strong Wumble is, he's always outta sight when he's up to his shenanigans! Wanda understands her shortcomings as a wizard only knowing 1 spell, but by using that one spell in remarkable ways she's leveling! And without her knowledge she's using the strength and power that Wumble is providing! So yeah you absodamnlutely need this series in your library!
Remarkably consistent in style and tone with all previous episodes. Newly graduated apprentice alchemist Wanda needs to find a team, but can she overcome her social anxiety to do it? If you liked books 1 & 2 you should like this one as well. Although the shtick about no one realizing Wumble is a super dog is wearing a bit thin, I expect it will be with us for many books to come.
Audio book review. These books have so much potential. Drew Hayes often builds great characters and worlds (example NPCs, Villains Code and Fred the Vampire Accountant). This is on the verge of being something you get hooked on. I have a slight affinity towards the characters, but not strong enough for relistens yet. Amy Landon does a great job of narrating. I like her pace. The only thing that throws me off is that her character voices are really close to Villain Code voices so sometimes I get confused on which character is speaking in the context of the story.
If you haven't met Wanda and Wumble yet, I can't say it loudly enough...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!?!?!?!?
Wanda, a newly minted Apprentice Alchemist, and her Best Boi ™️ doggy familiar, Wumble, are on a new adventure in this installment--to find a temporary team to hunt for ocorial (sp?) and potion ingredients with. Wanda isn't really a people-person, and at the Team Tea event, she just kinda does what I would do and sits awkwardly at the first table with open spots. Turns out, she picked the "reject" table...the table where there are 3 others who never get picked because they are not powerful enough or are seen as outcasts for some reason. Well, Wanda being Wanda decides that the amount of social interaction required to move to a different table and reintroduce herself is WAY too much (I feel that in my soul, Wanda), so she stays with the guys...besides, they've all been nice to her so far, and Wumble seems to like them.
The newly formed team goes out on a "brief" hunting trip into an old mining site, which (as things usually do for Wanda and Wumble) ends up turning into a bit of a disaster, and while trying to solve their dilemma, the team takes the time to teach each other new things, and learn things about each other that prove to be extremely helpful along the way--working as a TRUE team should. Then, there's Wumble, just bopping along while everyone else is distracted, taking down giant monsters and sauntering back to his wizard like nothing happened. Corgis gonna corg. 🤷🏻♀️
This is the cutest little series. I recommend it for a little palate cleanser for some of your heavier reads, or just if you want a book with an adorable corgi familiar. Each book is only about 120-140 pages or about 3ish hours on audio, and I like the narrator a lot, even though it took me a little while to get used to her.
Is it hard to come up with a new way to rave about another book in a great series? Who cares? It's Drew Hayes + a cute dog. Bring it on!
I'm going to be very serious now and tell you that Roverpowered 3 is a competent story written by a competent auth... No, I just can't do it. Look, I'm going to shamelessly plug this series because it's worth it, even if I look like a rabid fangirl in the process.
Read Roverpowered 3 by Drew Hayes. Heck, read everything the man has written. You can't go wrong.
You still here? You want more? Good, because I want to rave about how good this is and I was afraid I'd be all alone in here. Which is kind of what Wanda was afraid of in this book. She sets out to join a temporary team of adventurers and she's a bit too shy to put herself forward. Without quite meaning to, she joins a group of cast-offs and leftovers and it could have gone horribly wrong. Luckily for everyone involved Wumble is around, and very little goes wrong for long with that furry potato on the scene.
This one features an accidental dungeon dive and Wanda gets to shine, literally. It's adventure plus humor with a lot of heart.
Wanda's fellow wizards are the first who begin to appreciate how quietly helpful she is, although no one but Wumble recognizes the pair's potential yet. Drew Hayes is so good at drawing out the suspense without cheating and I hope he keeps everyone in the dark for as long as humanly (or caninely) possible.
Again, this was over too fast, but it could be a thousand pages and it still wouldn't be enough. It's just that good.
The Roverpowered series is a delightful spin on the genre of magical society that was fun, easy to read, and over far too quickly. The series follows the continuing tales of Wanda, a budding alchemist, and her familiar Wumble, a corgi who has been her constant companion after saving her life.
The main source of conflict comes from orcorites, magically-infused monstrous materials, and misunderstandings while it and leans heavily into the reader's meta knowledge to create extra layers of humor. Character growth and development is clearly defined for the reader, while remaining confounding to the characters themselves in many cases, leaving the fairly newly bonded Wanda to overestimate others and underestimate herself and Wumble. The result is a charming, confident main character who rises to do her best with her circumstances and more than a bit of Deus Ex Machina due to the oversized powers Wanda doesn't know Wumble posseses, but if you didn't expect that from a series called Roverpowered, you should read less pun-ishing works.
I highly recommend starting at the first two books in the series if you haven't already. The world is quite unlike our own in several important ways and the pacing builds on the foundation of the previous works with previously introduced concepts and techniques being brought back to the fore as growth continues to propell our heroes ever foreward.
Wanda is now an Apprentice Alchemist. That means she is closer to her dream. Now that she accomplished her goal, she wants to do more for Wumble, and that means helping him get stronger, not knowing just how strong he really is. For that, she goes looking for a team so they can hunt occorites and get stronger.
Since she is a socially awkward girl that's innocent and sweet, ends up with a team of rejects. But she sees what other people don't, they are true, they are loyal, and they do what's best for her.
In their adventure they get separated while they fight occorites, so no one is really there to see what Wanda and Wumble are really capable of, so their true strength is still hidden, but the fact that they are a strong addition to the team can't be denied.
It was good to see Wanda making friends, and it was even better to see Wumble fighting and to see more from his point of view because we get to see how much he loves Wanda and how smart and capable he is.
Love the story, love the characters, and I want more.
Enjoyable characters, interesting world and magic system. Very short. The 3 books could easily be one book. Has the "MC is way more powerful than they realize" trope but handles it okay. Sometimes it's fun to have a character attribute their OP nature to other sources, but sometimes it can get annoying. I wasn't annoyed by it so far. The book(s) definitely need a good editor. There are several homophones that are mixed up and words that are incorrect. Also some typos. I'm generous with my ratings for indie authors but it's automatically -1 star for errors. Overall I enjoyed it and the first 2 books, but I'm hoping the writing improves
This is a continuation of the story. Wanda is now a wizard and wants to go on adventures to help improve the power of her familiar.
She is able to form a temporary adventuring party with what is the equivalent of "losers" in the wizard world. They may be losers but they are honest and trust worthy.
Wanda still has not discovered how powerful she and her familiar really are she still thinks that she is a complete newbie. Which is some ways she is but she is able to pickup new skills really quickly.
At the end of the book she has decided to form a full time party with the wizards. Fun fast and short story. Looking forward to the next installment.
Totally fun and excellent narration by Amy Landon. I loved Hayes' explanation of writing a magical dog story in which the dog hero is super powered (almost indestructible) because it allows for the dog lover to avoid the one horrible thing about loving a dog - saying goodbye. I have found all three rover-powered books entertaining and fun, but, one complaint, they are very short and really more like chapters for one book than 3 separate books.
If you’re reading the series, it’s not for scientific accuracy. There is deus ex machina everywhere , but it’s also a lot of fun with a heroin who is just a pleasure to read about, a sidekick who is just so fluffy, and now side characters, who can also learn more about.
My only complaint is the book is a little bit short , but it is a complete story with no cliffhangers.
Drew Hayes continues the story of the education of aspiring achemist Wanda, and her loyal dog, Wumbles. Hilariously, Wumbles is super-powered (read book 1), but Wanda doesn't know it. However, she benefits from it, as his magical power helps her be faster and stronger. She kindly protects her dog from harm, while he sneaks away and destroys the worst monsters.
I think Wumble's magic may be actively hiding his power from her and everyone else. It does make an amusing story, dripping with irony. Wanda always finds reasons to explain her wild successes, that don't include her dog.
With many works of fiction the original is great, the sequel is ok, and the third is usually meh. Once again Drew Hayes breaks the cycle. Each book in this series gets better. The character development, the world building while geared towards the YA audience will infatuate even the most jaded fantasy reader. Familiars are often seen as a tool in many stories but Wanda shows that familiars are family. I cannot wait for Roverpowered 4 and hope that Drew has even more in store after that.
I love Wanda and Wumble. In this novella they join a team to further their questing abilities. I've only read a little litRPG books but I love the storytelling in this series. It seems to be the top of the genre. I've liked everything I've read by Drew Hayes and I've read most of his books.
I adore Drew's writing. They're all fun, easy, make you feel good reads. This series, which I think is his first targeted at YA audience hay my complete confidence in recommending it to anyone who's kids love fantasy, while still managing to be incredibly enjoyable for me as an adult.
It's not especially long (took me about 2 hours to read), but this story was so fun. Give it a chance.
I love Wumble, he's perfect. Cinny would be Wumble if she were smarter. The Roverpowered books are fast, fun reads, and this latest one did not disappoint. The relationship that Wanda and Wumble have is so sweet and pure, just like the relationship you have with your dog. I can't wait to see what they do next.
Okay, I give up. I won't complain that the story is too short. Each part is like a chapter in a book, and I'm resigned to that now. I'm just happy I get a new piece of the story every few months.
Wanda and Wumble find a new adventure with a new team. I liked all of them, and each one helped give new information about the world and magic. This series is also ADORABLE!
I like the authors, other books, but this series is really more of a series of short stories, that seemed designed for a small children… Essentially, girl sees some porridge “my tasty porridge”, the porridge has blueberries, blueberries are good, the girl eats the porridge, the girl smiles with a full tummy… The end
This is a story about a young woman working to be in our chemical mage. This magical system is really interesting, with magicians aligning themselves with animals that can process energy. This is really a fun read, and I will definitely read the next book in the series, it kind of reads as a cozy.
The depth of character and world building are excellent as always, and the ensemble that is building is amazing! I was disappointed when it ended because I wanted more!
Yay, Team!! I just love how Wanda pushes through insecurities to learn, grow and trust. For her and Wumble. She’s finding her tribe, as much as herself. And Wumble continues to be a caring and quietly badass Familiar. I look forward to the next story!
I really enjoy Drew Hayes humor, and these books are entertaining reads. I do wonder how long it will take Wanda to catch on to everything going on, but with no comparison, its entirely understandable.
It’s a little weird that nobody thinks that Wumble is more powerful than it seems. And if he has a strong bond with his owner, why is he trying to hide his abilities? It’s strange.
