What a wonderful, illustrated cartography of history and global timelines. Beginning with the big bang all the way through to the pandemic, these wonderful double page spreads showcase complex historical narratives in graphic, playful and whimsical work that doesn’t detract from accuracy. The book’s strength lies in its intricate illustrations, where every detail serves a purpose. The authorial illustrator layers events, figures, inventions, and cultural shifts into sprawling, playful compositions that feel almost like maps of human experience as a living, interconnected story. It is a testament to the power of illustration as a medium for knowledge. I’ll be using this one in classes.
