How does a Christian behave when surrounded by a hostile world that doesn't understand who we are or why we do what we do? In three letters, Peter and Jude provide some Abandon the old pagan ways. Learn the new habit of love. Put on the mental armor that will make you strong to face suffering that may come. These nine studies from Tom Wright show you the wisdom of their words for us today and remind you, in the midst of hardship, that the God who deserves all praise is still "the one who is able to keep you standing upright."
N. T. Wright is the former Bishop of Durham in the Church of England (2003-2010) and one of the world's leading Bible scholars. He is now serving as the chair of New Testament and Early Christianity at the School of Divinity at the University of St. Andrews. He has been featured on ABC News, Dateline NBC, The Colbert Report, and Fresh Air, and he has taught New Testament studies at Cambridge, McGill, and Oxford universities. Wright is the award-winning author of Surprised by Hope, Simply Christian, The Last Word, The Challenge of Jesus, The Meaning of Jesus (coauthored with Marcus Borg), as well as the much heralded series Christian Origins and the Question of God.
This Bible study guide is not a deep or complicated commentary on 1 & 2 Peter and Jude. Instead, N. T. Wright masterfully gives us a brief description of the book, then leads us through study questions that lead us to a deeper understanding of the book. This is a great guide for a beginning study of these books. I highly recommend.
I appreciate everything I have read by Wright. This is the first time I have used his Bible studies and found it very worthwhile. If you lead a small group and are looking for a guide through a New Testament book, I would look at this series before all others.
Tom Wright will encourage you and hit you where it hurts. I thank Our Savior for men like Wright. This study is thought provoking and will stir the emotions. Check it out!
