Nothing Like The First Time Review on K-Books

Ever since hearing of this book I was really looking forward to reading it. I have really been loving NA Contemporary novels right now and this one sounded so awesome I was dying to read it. When I was offered the chance for a free copy in turn for an honest review I jumped at the chance. Nothing Like The First Time is a really great contemp and I really enjoyed reading it.

Carly and Greyston were each others first love and Grey is the one guy that Carly can't get out of her head. After 10 years of meaningless relationships Carly once again finds herslef face to face with Grey and the sparks fly. But can she forgive and forget the past and give first love a second chance... or has life just moved on too much to go back?

This was the first book I have read from Keren Hughes and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't the best book I've ever read but it was far from the worst. The writing style I found difficult to connect with at the start but the more I read the more I got used to it and ended up really enjoying the book. I found the beginning of the book very 'chunky'. What I mean by that is there wasn't really any flow from one scene to the other. I found it very much like: This happened. This happened. This happened. And there was no flow or anything in between. It happened very fast and was chunky. I felt like after the couple communicated and the romance started it settled down and we were experiencing everything along with Carly rather than being told what happened in 'chunks'.

Carly was a great character to follow through this story. She was very cool and quirky and I really identified with her. She is the character that everyone will love and with she was their best friend. Grey is the perfect, swoon-worthy guy that every reader will just totally fall in love with.

Nothing Like The First Time is a great NA Contemporary novel that was a really fun and flirty read. It has everything you would want, romance and storyline and a steamy, swoon-worthy book boyfriend. I really enjoyed it and will definitely look out for this authors other works.

2.5 stars.
The author was amazing enough to send me copies of book 1 and 2 in this series in exchange for my honest review. So, here it goes!
"I really do love you with all my heart. Every beat seems to echo your name."
I really wanted to love this book! So so so much! But sadly, I didn't. I'll start with what I liked.
I loved Grey more than anybody else in this book. He had a down to earth feel about him and I only really stuck around for him.
Now here are the reasons why it didn't get three stars or more.
The story picks up after Grey has been gone for 10 years. I would have loved to get a taste of his relationship with Carls before he left so I could feel the evolution of their relationship after it picked up again. I felt like I got robbed. Also, Carls handled the reunion with her mother like an immature teenager. The book focused too much on sex scenes and song titles than an actual plot. There wasn't much of a plot twist. I'm sorry but I will not consider that hiccup a plot twist. This story was hard to get through and it was too cheesy. These two characters were awfully dependent on each other in order to be happy. I get it, you are in love, but you are also two different people. I don't know about all of you, but my biggest pet peeve is when someone relies on a significant other to live life to the fullest. I'm glad I gave this a try but I won't be picking up the next book anytime soon. Maybe the end of the month.

Loved this book. Carly and Grey were friends first, then dated thru high school but when Grey took a freelance job as a photographer their relationship ended. Ten years later in a cafe' they used to go to, Carly runs into Grey. He is with someone whom Carly assumes is his fiancé. Grey wants to get back with Carly as he never stopped loving her and she him but she doesn't make it easy for him. This book really makes you believe in love forever and happy endings.

This story could have had potential. it was almost on the DNF pile. but i kept giving it a chance and kept turning the page. next thing you know i was committed. i was past halfway.. everytime i turned it frustrated the hell out of me! i found that the last 6 chapters i skimmed through it.
could have been shorter. like it needed to have more drama or twists and turns between getting together in chapter 4 till the end. like it seems to have happened so fast but yet what happened after seemed to go so slow.
1. Also, Lizzie was sick and it was the reason why he came home. sounded serious but no other mention of it.
2. maggie who was lizzies daughter didnt hang around?!
3. when they had dinner at the cottage. didnt she wonder whose house it was he had taken over and it wasnt until the next day that she was gonna ask.
4. as if the event that took place that night was a surprise when she clearly knew it was in the cards and as if the limo and corsage didnt give it away!!
5. who gives a corsage on normal dates?!
6. When he disappeared, she was supposed to be fuming and yet it was all ok?! Also, didnt she think to call his mum to see where he was?!
7. not inviting family to the wedding?? just like that? then in the end she invited them anyway? she sounded so fickle!
8. TOO MUCH DETAIL. it was unnecessary. from song titles to greys anatomy and plot. it was too much.

I'm not usually a huge reader of contemporary romance, but Carly and Grey had me hooked from the start. They deal with real world issues and respond appropriately, so much so that right from the get go you feel like you know these people on a personal level.

There is nothing unrealistic in the events or the characters reactions, and my reactions and emotions were right there with them through it all.

In an industry where most people are now taking sex scenes up and beyond the limits of what used to be usual, I was quite happy while reading the sexier parts of NLTFT. Keren did a good job in portraying the sweetness and the love that people feel during this emotional experience without going overboard.

I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more novels from this author, you have definitely earned the 5 star review from this reader!

Carly and Greyston were childhood sweethearts, met young and madly in love as teens. They did everything together and had many firsts together. A picture of young love that lasts forever. Until it all goes wrong. Grey has the opportunity to take his dream and make it bigger and better, with the perfect job offer of being a photographer abroad. He is madly in love with Carly, but can't see beyond this huge opportunity. He asks Carly to go with him, but Carly is hurt and her heart is breaking at the possibility that the love of her life is going to choose a career over her. She tells him, she won't uproot her life and they part on bad terms.
Ten long years later, Carly is a freelance journalist and has moved on. She has her own home, loves her job and although content, never really got over her first love. Although having had a few relationships, nothing that has lasted. Not when her heart was given to Grey, and he took it with him ten years ago.
That's when all changed, Carly spots grey and something within her is fired back up. As soon as he spots her, it's obvious that his feelings haven't changed after all this time. Yet, Grey is there with a woman, who is showing off an engagement ring. Carly is polite but aloof, keeping her distance and shielding her heart. Yet Grey is persistent, he remembers exactly what he missed from home, and wants it back.
So begins a game of chase, Grey is determined to win back Carly, and make up for the time they lost. Carly wants Grey more tan anything, yet can't possibly comprehend giving in to an engaged man.
It's obvious the chemistry is still present and probably as strong as it was before he left. Whenever they are together, it's sweet how strong they feel for each other. Grey is adorable and seems willing to fight tooth and nail for Carly. Carly is torn on her morals and feelings. The man she never stopped loving, who is also engaged. So follows a series of events to bring these two back together.
It really is quite a sweet and lovely tale of second chance love. Although the odds seem stacked against them, time and again. Fate would seem to step in and give them a little helping hand from time to time. I loved seeing the journey they took and how they handled all the obstacles to get to their happy ever after and finish line. Although they seemed to have to deal with some pretty horrid things thrown at them, they were both strong characters and came back fighting. A very sweet love story that makes you sigh at the perfect moments, and gasp at the heartbreaking ones.

I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review. As always, that’s what you’re getting!

I opened this book in the hope that I would like it, I wasn’t disappointed, I loved it! The story is about two childhood sweethearts, Grey and Carly. The book is written in first person from Carly’s point of view.

Grey chose a career opportunity as a freelance photographer over the girl he loved. He left town in pursuit of his dreams, leaving Carly broken hearted from her first love, a love she’d never forget. Ten years later Grey shows back up, but everything has changed hasn’t it?

Grey made me hate him, love him, hate, love. Okay, I would have been willing to hide Carly’s body in a shallow grave in the woods and present myself to him as a willing comfort. But I think that’s a whole different book ;). He is steamy hot and it’s certainly easy to see why he’d make a woman go weak at the knees.

Saying that, Carly is a strong minded character that I could easily relate to. She’s a strong woman, with two jobs. One pays the bills, the other is her passion. She has ‘the one that got away’ syndrome for sure. I get her. I get her motives for everything she does and I’m with her all the way. I only mention the body hiding stuff because I want a piece of her boyfriend.

The pair together are explosive. I’m not ashamed to admit that Hughes had me squirming in my seat with every hot sex scene. The passion was so palpable that I felt a little voyeuristic. Her words bounced straight off the page and provided vivid imagery that flooded down to my groin!

The plot is thick and enriched with events that you never saw coming. When the events have smacked you in the face, you’ll be holding your breath until the next one. I couldn’t put it down.

The writing is seamless, it flows beautifully and carries you along on the waves of Grey’s and Carly’s story. I found Hughes’ writing style flawless and a style I could read forever. You are just there, seeing, hearing, smelling and touching everything along with the characters. Isn’t that exactly how a book is meant to be?

The book’s cover is beautiful and compliments the characters perfectly.

I would feverishly recommend this book to any lover of steamy romance. Especially someone that needs a gripping plot to go along with it.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

I'm a big fan of this genre and this book was no disappointment.

It's a great read with just enough romance and drama to make you keep turning the page.
I have to admit, I found the pacing of the book a bit on the fast side and some of the sex scenes were a bit repetitive but they were still enjoyable scenes and didn't go too far with the descriptions (like some books I've read where authors go a bit too far describing things...too much details = eww) plus, hello people, Grey is HAWT, meaning very hot scenes, if you know what I mean ;) This was a great first book written in this genre for Keren.

I loved the relationship between Carly and her best friend, Jodie. It was great, and reminded me of the relationship I have with my best friend. I also loved the relationship between Carly and Greyston. They were each other's first everything and even with being separated for 10 years, you could still see how much they loved each other after they get reunited.

The storyline was great, as most books in this genre seem to have the characters meet, get together, some drama happens to split them up, they try to get over each other, realise they belong with each other, get back together....whereas this starts after a split and then they get together and nothing gets in the way, and the characters are understanding with each other when the drama happens, it's kinda refreshing.

I love books with HEA's and this was no exception.

I can't wait to read more from Keren :) Well done on another great book.

P.S sorry for the very short and (in my opinion) a badly written review.......please forgive me Keren lol

This fabulous NA novel is about two characters called Carly and Grey. They were high school lovers and shared every single living moment together as well as special events and passion creating a memorable and desirable bond that can never be forgotten. However when grey got a huge job opportunity to become a freelance photographer he took the chance creating a strain on these two loved up teenagers ending the relationship. Time passed and both characters were ten years older than their teenage selves when they later bumped into each other again leaving a few assumptions to be lingering in Carlys mind as grey was not alone in a place they use to go in their younger days. Will their feeling be rekindled?

The characters featured in this novel were extremely credible for their realistic personalities and actions throughout. The romance that is shown and described throughout the book is again very realistic with a reminder and clear understanding of how many relationships happen and can later turn out.

When reading ‘Nothing Like The First Time’ you will need to be prepared for the many tears that may be rolling down your face and the happiness that will also arise having you smiling ear to ear in no time.
Did any problems arise? Well I will let you in to a little secret … be prepared for the shock that happens towards the centre of this incredible book!

I would recommend this book to any reader over the age of seventeen due to sexual contents and the language throughout capturing a mature audience to read and enjoy another great read by Keren Hughes!

This is simply a love story but as everyone knows love stories are never that straight forward !

Love, loss , firsts , heartache , trust and love again ! Brilliant , easy to read and spell binding ! Keren Hughes I must admit is for me a new author ( have had her books on my kindle for a while without realising ! ) for me , even though this is not her first book as far as I'm concerned is her best yet .

This fantastic NA novel is about two characters ; Carly Summers and Greyston Sterling . They were high school sweet hearts sharing all their"firsts" with each other and continued to be with each other for 3 years until Grey walked away for his career as a freelance photographer . Ten years later they meet again when Greyston returns home . Can Carly let herself get close to him again even though she never stopped loving him ? Only time will tell.

Keren Hughes in my opinion is a very talented writer who puts pen to paper and makes magic happen . You can tell she puts her heart and soul into her work . This book is outstanding , not many people can have me crying by the end of the first chapter ! By the end of the book she even had me crying snot bubbles , not attractive I know but what can you do when the emotion within a book just hits you in the chest ?

I look forward to reading more of her work in the near future . Well done Keren , for your first attempt at an NA and your first attempt at writing sex scenes I'd say you nailed it !!

The former teenage sweethearts, Carly and Grey are separated for a ten year period, only for Grey to fall back into her life as quickly as he left it.
But could Carly trust the man who had walked away from her? Trust he wouldn't do that again?

------------------------------
"I don't know what my life would be without you in it and I never want to find out. We were apart for too long and I will never let you go again..."
------------------------------

As the pair let go of the past they grow into their future happiness together. From the romance, whole hearted love, and incredible bond the pair had through thick and thin just blew me away. I kept waiting for something to go wrong but it never did. They truly were made for one another...

------------------------------
"My first love is also my last love....we have that forever kind of love"
------------------------------

A sweet, romantic, sexy story of teenage sweethearts and their new found love and plans for one another. A brilliant and easy read. Four star rating and I can't wait to read the next in this series!

After reading ‘Nothing Like The First Time’ I can only say one word BEAUTIFUL. I love how the Author Keren arranged and wrote the plot of the story. The story really in such a melody flowed. I love Grey and Carly a lot, the love they have for each other although they knew each other at such a young age. At that age, I don’t know what love is so I salute Carly character because she is very mature and able to handle her love life at that age. As for Grey, at first I would say he was a selfish boy because he left Carly for his career but I understand why when I read the end of it. Sometime in life, in order to get something we need to sacrifice something. This will not be easy task but sacrifice is a sacrifices. Because in the end, when we get what we want all the sacrifices is worth it. I love the ending so much although there are ups and downs. I can’t wait to read more of Author Keren works. Therefore, I give ‘Nothing Like The First Time’ 5 stars.

Another great debut read by a new author to me. Young school sweethearts are separated when Greyston, known as Grey, puts his career ahead of his relationship with Carly and heads off abroad to work as a freelance photography, leaving Carly to try and pick up the pieces of her broken heart. Ten years go by and Grey comes back looking for her, determined to beg her forgiveness and win her back. They say first love can never be replicated and these two have never got over each other, but the path back is never easy. I found this to be a really lovely romance read, with some erotic scenes peppered through. You couldn't help but like both main characters and will them to get their happy ever after. A heart warming tale that will make you smile and reminisce about your first love and wish you could experience that heady feeling all over again.

When you really love someone it never changes, no matter what you go through the love is always there. Carly and Greyston are a perfect example of proof. They had a young love but it was a true love and after years of being apart fate brings them back into each others lives. It's not as easy as the first time, there's so many twists and obstacles in their way... but they do say true love can conquer all...
The characters are amazing and so real. The storyline lets you think you have it all figured out then it would hold true to real life and have the characters having to overcome something that I'd find myself waiting and hoping they would and I couldn't put it down until I found out how they did. A wonderfully engaging storyline :)
This was my first time reading this author but it will not be my last!!

Reading a story about lost love and second chances give mAny people hope. They begin to wonder 'what if' and look back on their own past with a smile.

Hughes' tales follows teenage lovers after a ten year split that has left them both with a hole that only a certain love can fill.

Fluffy, hopeful, and sexy, Nothing Like the First Time hits all the right spots. The minor angsty plot points never once distract from, what is at heart a love story. They add to the overall well rounded tale and make it that little bit more realistic.

My only complaint is that all the characters are 'nice'. The cynic in me kept expecting someone to turn on the happy couple and become a bitch trying to split them up.

A great pace to keep you reading. Highly recommended!

I loved reading this! It's a great heartwarming tale of love, lost lost and love again!
It is really well written (no mistakes, grammar, spelling, typo's).
The reason I have only given four stars is because it lacked a little something, I'm not sure what, but it just needed a little bit of something to make my blood pump a little faster.
Don't get me wrong, I loved it, I just needed an event that would make me excited to keep reading.
Keren has a great mind, an ability to pull you in and love her characters.
I was routing for Carly and Grey from the beginning and even with obstacles in their way, love prevailed and they got their HEA!
A fantastic love story, proving that there's 'Nothing Like the First Time'.
Four fabulous stars!!

Keren Hughes brings everything to the able in this beautiful story; love, humour and sadness are all in the mix, a rollercoaster of emotions for sure. I've cried, I've laughed and I've been choked up with happiness for the two main characters - Carly and Greyson.

This isn't your typical love story. It's a beautiful and inspiring read. Of one love never forgotten and reunited when Carly least expected it. But after jumping to conclusions will she really be able to redeem herself to her childhood sweetheart, or will it be too late for them both to start again?

Amazing. Phenomenal. I LOVED THIS BOOK! I highly recommend this.

Aimed at audiences of 18+ with sexual content not suitable for younger readers.

A beautiful story about how first love can conquer all,no matter the time that passes there is true first love out there. You just need to be patient and not give up and no matter what obstacles that you are faced with love can conquer all in the end. And it makes u believe that maybe there is that happily ever after out there somewhere after all.I loved the history Grey and Carly shared as teenagers even after all that time apart they still had that connection.Grey messed up as a teenager but he by far made up for it when he got back into town he was very persistent and would not give up. Lovely read.

this is a lovely second chance read, Carly and Grey are teenage sweethearts, head over heels in love but Grey gets the chance of a lifetime job and takes it leaving Carly after she wouldn't leave. They bump into each other ten years later and the feelings are still there but after a misunderstanding Carly keeps him at bay much to her heartbreak of really wanting to be with him, this is where you will need the tissues, what they encounter throughout the rest of the story can only make them stronger or break them........ you will truly be frustrated with them and fall in love with them, it is beautifully written and I loved all the detail in it.

A sweet, cute read.

Nothing Like the First Time was a sweet second chance read. It was a relaxing, easy book that didn't dig too deep and I enjoyed it. It's one of the better freebies I've read in awhile and I was surprised at the rate I got through it. It seemed like I'd only been reading for a few hours when I suddenly noticed I was at 70%.

With regards to the story, like I said above, it was easy. It didn't dig to deep into the past or emotions. It was a gentle story and although at times I did wish for more emotions, it was still enjoyable. Grey and Carly were cute together.

Overall a relaxing read and I can't complain for a freebie.

A Great Book for Love

Keren Hughes is a new author for me. If I can afford her books, she won't be for long. She is a fantastic author. Second chances at love is one of the best subjects for romance books that I know. After ten years away from Carly, Grayston finally comes back home. He seems to want to start over with Carly, but what about Maggie? More as more interesting. To find out if Grey, as Carly calls him, Maggie and Carly work things out, buy this book and find out. I'm so glad I did!

What a beautiful second chance romance! Grey and Carly were a highschool sweatheart but Grey walked away because of his job as a photographer and they broke up. After 10 years, they met again in a cafe and has their happy ending. And if your a sucker for epilogues like me, You'll love it too. It was so cute and sweet. Especially when their daughter's trying to wake up Grey in bed. Loved it! A re-read for me.

Very sweet love story about two people, Greyston and Carly that met when they were young, fell and love only to walk away from that love. Ten years later, they meet again when Greyston returns home. Can they make it this time? Is it true that no one can replace your first love?

Does what it says on the tin

Very sweet & sickly romantic read in a good way.

10 years apart and Carly and Grey are reunited.

I thought Carly was very forgiving and although I like a bit more angst in a read it was a hot romantic read with a hea ideal for curling up with after a long day.
