Oh, Flutz!: A Figure Skating Romance
KATYA’s got a problem. For years, the so-called “Ice Queen” has always been on top—of the podium and the rankings. Only now, her teammates have begun pulling ahead, and what starts as a gradual slip in scores ends up bringing her to rock bottom after a nasty fall.
BRYAN’s in trouble. Despite a promising start to his career, his worsening family life sent him into a downward spiral, and the higher-ups are finally starting to notice. He’s dead weight, and they’re pressuring his coach, Lian, to do something about it.
So she does. Lian seizes the opportunity to snatch the Ice Queen up and put her on Team USA just in time for the Olympics—and save her own skater in the process.
Katya reluctantly agrees, expecting to keep doing her own thing, on her own terms. She’s sure not expecting to be put into pairs with a second-rate competitor on his last stop before total oblivion. Bryan, for one, isn’t expecting her to be such a bully.
They may hate each other on sight, but it’s their last shot. They have to skate together if they want to skate at all…it’s just a matter of making sure they don’t kill each other before they make it to the Olympics.

katya is a complicated character, but i love her so much. she pushes people away to keep herself safe, which i completely understand. she’s strong, determined, and powerful. she doesn’t trust easily, and that’s a characteristic that i find deeply relatable. no matter what she did, how flawed she was, i couldn’t find it in my heart to feel any negative emotions towards her. i just love her so much.
bryan, oh bryan. he means a lot to me. he’s sensitive, and brushes everything off with his humour, which makes him so relatable for me. bry is so beautifully written. he’s trying to heal while also being repeatedly knocked down, yet he still stands back up, and his strength is admirable. he’s so mirrorball & timt coded, it breaks my heart. i love him with everything i am.
katya and bryan’s dynamic is EVERYTHING. the angst?! i’m someone who eats UP angst, and this book had piles of it. they always made me laugh with their back and forth sarcasm. they are the DEFINITION of a slow-burn (aka, my fav.) the emotions this couple made me feel is absolutely insane. i felt everything, and my heart grew ten sizes. they’re so special, and their relationship is SO well written.
this book is absolutely incredible, and i cannot wait for it to be out in the world. the way emilia portrays figure skating is so beautiful. i’ve always been so intrigued in the sport, and i feel like i’ve learnt so much from this book. i can’t even begin to describe how lovely her writing is, and how she writes the dynamic’s between characters. i feel honoured to have gotten the chance to beta-read & to meet katyabryan early. i’ve been following emilia for a little while, so when the email came through i was overjoyed. oh, flutz! is definitely a MUST read.

Oh, Flutz! is such a great book. The characters are interesting and well developed, I cared so much about them that I was crying tears of joy at the end by how invested I was in their story.
The story is reminiscent of the movie, The Cutting Edge, with a unique twist on an ice skating pairs story. Reading it I was taken back to when I was glued to the TV watching figure skating in the Olympics, so invested in the athletes performances, as well as, their emotions.
Emilia Kates's debut novel is beautiful. She clearly knows about figure skating and integrates the skating details into the story in a way that helps you visualize what is happening on the ice and takes you along for the ride. Her characters are interesting, her narrative is compelling and overall the book is a fantastic.

This was such a fun read! Finished it in 2 days. Loved the story and the characters, and will never look at ice skating the same way again 😊

If I could give this book infinite stars, I WOULD.
Trust me, it is *that* good.
As a figure skater myself, i absolutely *hate* with a PASSION sports romance books with FMC who figure skate because they are never EVER done right. (honestly the only emotions I feel reading those are cringe, embarrassment, and wanting to throw the book against the wall).
BUT…🥁🥁🥁🥁 Emi’s book is the ONLY exception to this rule. I am on my knees here appreciating this book and the accuracy of detail to our sport 🧎🏼♀️🧎🏼♀️🧎🏼♀️
Bryan is literally my husband yall (#real #confirmedbytheauthor). He’ll always be my no.1 this-is-me-trying/mirrorball coded character, and he will always and forever be in my heart 😔🤞🏼 and Kat is so so special to me and I adore her with every inch of my heart. Their story is something I will never forget and will treasure till i am old and grey.

beta read this beauty at the beginning of the year and it had me absolutely GIDDY with how cute & sweet it was. such a lovely slow burn, hate to love, figuring skating sports romance. beautiful golden retriever sweetheart mmc paired with the ice queen fmc, like c’mon. how can you resist. and with stunning male mental health representation. something we don’t see enough of. if you loved lukov with love, absolutely check this out!!

oh my gOD?!!!! okay so it took me a bit to get into this book, specially bc when i say they really didn’t like each other and said the most mean things to one another? but that only made the pay off more worth it BC OMFG THEY ARE SOULMATES YOUR HONOR!!! no bc apparently my theme of the month is books that simply make me sob BC WHY TF WAS I SOBBING WITH A SUPPOSEDLY CUTESY FIGURE SKATING ROMANCE?!!! if i know one thing, it’s that ice skating romances WILL ALWAYS DO IT FOR ME!!!!

I cannot express how much I LOVED this book. I’ve been following Emilia on ig since 2023 and it has been incredible to see all of those pieces of the book she’d post become a real thing.
I cried, I laughed, and I loved. A big part of me couldn’t help but relate to both Bryan and Katya, and that’s what I liked the most about the book. It was real.
It showed what true friendship and partnership is and how sometimes the people that you love and are closest to you are doing you more harm than good.
I LOVED this book and the characters in it. And if you read this Emilia just know that if you ever publish another book, I’ll 100% be reading it. 💖

i love this book so much. it was such a great journey alongside katya and bryan and the development they had.
I love the way the author got to portray their trauma and frights. it was so well written, and everything was done with a reason that was fueling the evolution of the plot.
I really needed to read this and you should too! (if youre also reading this review)
I am so sad that there aren't more sports romance in the figure skating world, where they are both in this sport. but the ones that are, are so great, I adore them and will cherish them my whole life

Honestly i really loved it, i was scared it was gonna be another cringy smut figure skating book but it wasn't at all! super fluffy, a bunch of angst. this book is what i had been looking for for a while!
