Good content but BEWARE the E-Book is VERY restricted in its usability and as such is terrible value for money. Before you purchase make sure you are happy with the fact that you will not be able to save the E-Book to your computer, you will not be able to print the E-Book and you can only access/download/open it on your device a maximum of 20 times!!!!!!!! Even more disappointing was the dismissive response when raising these issues with Functional Patterns directly. Think twice before you purchase the E-Book
Pros: Extremely effective. Virtually guaranteed to eliminate lower back-pain and mobility issues that stem from a modern, sedentary lifestyle. Emphasizes structurally-integrated biomechanics and the revival of proper neuromuscular signaling via myofascial release, corrective exercises, and breathing technique.
Cons: Needs a better editor. Ebook is completely locked down and printing isn't allowed. Needs more citations to peer-reviewed research.
This in-depth and illustrated guide explains how to use myofascial release (tools needed include a lacrosse ball, Theracane, PVC pipe, and medicine ball) to realign posture and especially to counteract the effects of sitting for long periods of time. Not having a medical background, it seemed to me a bit technical, but it was still very helpful when used in conjunction with the author's YouTube videos.
If you're tired of conventional symptom based therapy and you want to start approaching your system as a whole in order to get rid of pain for good by tackling your dysfunctions, this book will help laying the foundation for you to do so.
Beginners don't have to worry. Detailed instructions (with images) on how to execute the proposed techniques properly are provided. Everything is explained clearly and if you don't have previous anatomical knowledge, you can always look up terms you don't understand in order to visualize the muscles described in the techniques.
I think the FP videos in the 10 week course are definitely more accessible--the book is a bit dense and the exercises at the end are not fully explained... That being said, in reading this after taking the course, I still got a lot out of it. And I actually like the MFR body diagrams in the book better than the videos--the visuals of areas of the body are clearer and easier to skim through. Long story short: I think this is a nice supplement to the videos, but I would start with the 10 week course
I read it 5 years ago. Still use the insight almost daily.
Helped me a lot to get my posture much better. I went from waking up at night because of back pain, feel stiff all day long to being almost completely pain free. It's a good structure and if you don't exactly get the exercises, you'll find YouTube videos for most of them (without the overall structure - which is why the book is still a good investment).
Naudi shines a new light on the biomechanics of the body. The book is quite easy to follow. He repeats several items in his book and it has Some misspellings in it.
The core concept of the book is directed towards how much we sit in a day and how that initiates an anterior pelvic tilt that distorts our mechanics
As I have done already some of the FP practices before - nothing new to me in this book. Almost the same exercises are covered on his 10-week online course. Based on Myofascial Release & proper Neutral spine muscular activations. (standing near to the wall, planks)
got some things out of it, about stress while sitting behind the desk can create tight fascia. because the stress you get when sitting in this positition where your hipflexors are shortened create an tight fascial muscle adaptation that your body does for survival mechanistic reasons
