Magnolia: An African American Romance

Rate this book

Magnolia by Miss Jazzie"You'll never know the real me, even if I painted you ten pictures."

Magnolia was born to chaos—a psychological chameleon who didn't just adapt to the poverty-stricken streets of New Orleans, but mastered the art of becoming whatever the moment demanded. Behind his calculated facade lies a man who weaponized his invisibility, molding himself into a ruthless hitman and kingpin whose name is whispered with trembling lips. He is the shadow everyone fears, yet the man no one truly knows—a master manipulator who keeps everyone guessing which version of himself is real. In his meticulously controlled world, love was more than a weakness; it was a psychological vulnerability he couldn't afford to expose. That is, until Zenobia walked into his life—innocent, forbidden, and completely out of his reach. The way he loved her broke every rule he lived by—raw, unfiltered, and dangerously obsessive—as unhinged as the streets he ruled.

Zenobia never imagined her quiet existence would become a high-stakes game with a man like Magnolia. She transformed from a sheltered caretaker to a queen at his side, thrust into a labyrinth of unspoken loyalties and invisible boundaries. Every smile, every touch between them conceals layers of unacknowledged truths. Through infidelity that cuts deeper than physical betrayal, children born from his darkest moments, and pain that reshapes her soul, Zenobia discovers the most dangerous part of loving the addictive power of being the only person who glimpses the man behind the monster.

As his empire stretches from the shadowed corners of New Orleans to the manicured lawns of Alpharetta, Georgia, Magnolia's name becomes more than legend—it becomes a psychological fortress built on both fear and respect. Yet with every triumph comes a new battlefield of the mind, and when tragedy strikes with merciless precision, the man who has orchestrated every outcome must face his most formidable opponent—the broken pieces of his own psyche. In the silence of his thoughts, Magnolia wages war against memories that refuse to stay buried and a self-hatred that threatens to consume everything he's built. Will his complex, tormented love for Zenobia become his salvation, or will the streets reclaim the king they crafted from childhood trauma and survival instinct?

Dive into the fractured reality of Magnolia—a man both worshipped and condemned, feared and desperately desired. From the psychological trenches of his past to the haunted heights of his ambition, his journey transcends the typical rise to power, becoming instead a raw dissection of human nature when pushed to its limits. If you crave African American romance steeped in psychological warfare, primal passion, and the unrelenting gravitational pull of streets that demand everything while promising nothing, this is the story that will consume you long after the final page.

Disappointed

Let me start off with saying. I actually love this Author and I have always love reading about Magnolia and Zenobia as well as the rest of their crew. However I have to be brutally honest. I was very disappointed. There were so many grammatical errors that it took away from me enjoying the story and I almost stopped reading. As I stated before I love Magnolia and Zenobia. I continued reading because I wanted to see how the storyline would go. The storyline as always is on point but whoever edited this book. Did a horrible job. There were also discrepancies. On one hand it said Zenobia threw the party because of everything they went through in 2023 and wanted to bring in a better 2024. Then it stated she wanted them to bring in a better 2025. Then there was Zyrese chapter. He is smarter than they think he is. Zyrese autism doesn't have him blind to what's going on around him. He just want Zenobia to stop treating him like a kid. Zyrese was finally told by Magnolia that MJ was shot and Zyrese let them know Trahan had came into the house but Zenobia had already told Zyrese about Mj and he had already told her about Trahan coming in the house in Zenobia chapter that was before his. This book had the potential to be a five star read. Actually with the proper editing. This book could've been given more than five stars if it was possible because this Author not only know how to tell a story but she knows how to pen a story. She also stays on point with her character development. I knew when this book first started why Magnolia was in a manic stage. I always felt he never fully forgiven Zenobia for what happened to their daughter. Magnolia need some serious Therapy. His past is also part of the problem. Zenobia can only be his medicine for so long. Zenobia need counseling as well. The love is there between them and you can clearly see it but their marriage is toxic. Too much pain and hurt has happened. Magnolia also found out he have another sister Janiya. Janiya and her husband Bear has become part of the crew as well. I have to give Mhyesha her props. She's constantly learning that Magnolia father wasn't s**t and he did a lot of bs in their marriage before he passed away. Even after his death year's later with finding out Magnolia have other siblings. She gracefully accept it without being bitter. It also seems like karma is coming for them and it's coming through MJ and may come through Zyrese too. I like the fact that Mj is now a young adult and is going through his own growing pains. He knowingly and unknowingly brought drama to his parents doorsteps when he chose to bring his girlfriend Daisy home. A girlfriend that his parents only heard about but didn't know about. Honestly MJ didn't know Daisy that well either. She's has a connection to his parents past that she kept from MJ. One thing Zenobia can do is sniff out some bs. Something about Daisy didn't sit right with her. Zyrese has a crush. After Zenobia saw a picture of the young woman he was drawing. She knew their past with Dior was coming back to haunt them. Zenobia should've told Magnolia since she's always screaming they didn't have "Secrets" but yet she kept her mouth closed. It's always good to see Amerika, Jahare, Yhental, Khaza, Mhyesha, Bakari, Khency, Endymion, Gianni and the rest of them. The way this ended. I couldn't do anything but shake my head. I have faith that Magnolia and Zenobia will get out of the situation that they are in but Magnolia should've followed his first mind when he had a funny feeling about going to Haiti and meeting up with them Haitians.

You have definitely done it again with Magnolia. The man who started it all has come back and I love it all. His past was delved deeper into and I was waiting for that. How he became the unstoppable force he is today even with all he’s been through. I’m glad you bought back the main players from past stories bc it was great to hear from esp Dymi and Kadafi even Bakari and Valentino. I’m happy all of his sisters were in attendance and got to a lil insight into their big brother. MJ is just like his dad in so many ways and Zenobia is still fighting demons that she’s overcoming as the years have passed. Would I ever had thought Magnolia would be anything like his father no I didn’t but witnessing the the things he did as a child with his father and mother would take a toll on him eventually. Mhyesha is happy with Gianni and still being her which is the best thing ever. I never would’ve guess Daisy was related to who she was but it came out. This Chinese dude Trahan gots to go and really soon he done cause havoc plus some. I’m so happy Zyrese is thriving in school and life, I’m also happy Magnolia finally took off the kid gloves with him. Zenobia wasn’t going to do it bc he still is her baby brother and he’ll always be that so it’s understandable. I need to know what Khap’s angle is bc it seems as if he just might have a death wish. That cliffhanger got my nerves bad as hell like I’m in the story and I’m just reading. If you wanna know all the details in between grab this up and start reading NOW!!! No disappointments at all, look who backing her and look at her previous pen game. Great job Miss Jazzie as always 😊💪🏾

Wait!!!!

Despite the errors, this was a good book. But that ending though left me speechless!

Childhood trauma can follow into your adult life if not addressed and that what Magnolia was experiencing! He was trying to so hard not to be like his father that he was slowly heading that way by starting to become addicted to pills! He was a street ninja and tried to change and be a family man for his wife Nobby & children, but that just wasn’t who he was! Slightly crashing out he realized that he needed to go back being who he was, however, before that could happen the way he wanted it to, he was forced to back into it because of his son. This man is about to be a force to be with, no questioned asked

Loved Nobby and the energy she had about her husband and children! She knows Magnolia better than he knows himself. So when she start noticing the change in him, she calls him out on it to only find out that he was taking pills that were not his prescribed one. This cause some strain to their marriage which I don’t blame her because they keep no secrets but she would never leave his side. Nobby was that wife that got in the streets with her husband if needed, she was the strength and he was the weapon in their relationship.

There is so much to unfold with this here book, that I would be typing forever. But that ending is what I have to touch on. I need to know what he is going to do. I’m slightly worried about Nobby and the situation she and Magnolia are in especially after that phone call. Definitely eager for that Part 2!

I cannot deny that this was an incredibly engaging read, but it certainly needs a thorough proofreading and editing. I noticed some minor errors at the beginning, which were manageable, but as I progressed towards the end, the issues became more pronounced. However, despite these flaws, the captivating storyline was strong enough to hold my attention throughout the book.

The characters Magnolia and Zenobia are intriguing and complex, both deserving their own dedicated series. They are absolutely wild—delightfully unpredictable, with enough craziness to keep readers on the edge of their seats. I can only imagine how the streets will react to Magnolia’s return; it's clear they’re not prepared for the chaos that’s sure to ensue.

I’m genuinely invested in MJ's fate—whether he is going to make it or not. If things don't go well for him, I fear that the sequel might be filled with a bleak atmosphere, perhaps culminating in a lot of slow singing and flower bringing. Here’s hoping that there’s a way to keep the tension high without losing the spark of the characters we’ve grown to love. Overall, I’m eager to see what comes next with the twists and turns in the sequel!

DNF so I won’t rate it but I will say this wasn’t good IMO, it was some grammatical errors early on, too much drama that wasn’t well explained POVs we didn’t need. Something about this story is off and I’m pretty sure it’s because it’s interconnected to multiple books in the authors catalogue. That should be the first thing you tell us as a reader. I had to go and see cus I’m like dang I feel like I missed something. Turns out it’s about 5 other books that tie into this one. I’m not interested especially for it to end in a cliff hanger. No thanks, if you have series that needs to be clearly stated why ware we reading about the same 40 characters over 596 pages in the same timeline? Also as an author why are you spelling the same characters name differently we go through multiple chapters and the name is Jahari we get to his Chapter and it’s Jahare lmao it’s petty but like where is the editor

Magnolia is still bae😍😍

This is really a five-star read, but the poor editing cannot be overlooked. This book has had me on the edge of my seat since I started it. I love Magnolia and Zenobia, and I hate that so much nonsense is hitting them from all angles. I really hope Magnolia shakes that monkey off his back because he is not his father. He needs his mind to be clear and free to handle MJ's critical condition, Trahan still lurking, whether or not Daisy can be trusted, and now this sleazy nicca Khap. I think it's really going to throw Magnolia for a loop when he finds out Zyrese is infatuated with a Dior doppelganger. I have a feeling that Zyrese is going to surprise us all, though. He's going to prove how much of a man he really is, and I am here for it.

So much drama

I’m glad we got to hear more of Magnolia’s story. I wasn’t expecting him to develop an addiction but that story made me understand more. I’m happy to see that Zenobia didn’t leave him and stuck by his side through all of his drama. I love the fact that his mom didn’t play with him and let him know when he’s wrong! I’m still suspicious of Daisy and I can’t wait to see how things pan out with her and Mj. I’m hoping he pulls through. Definitely a good read! I’m ready for part 2!

I loved catching up with this crew. The new developments with the characters and their storylines were interesting. The story moved at a moderate pace, filled with action and passion. There were several instances in each chapter where I did have to try to figure out what the author meant to write due to the multitude of errors, which are never really a thing for this author at any rate I am excited to read part two to see how the Haitian Chinese American connection all plays out.

lots of errors and typos

I was really excited to read this book. I loved the actual story but the amount of typos and errors in this book was overwhelming. And then parts of Magnolias story changed. Where’s Zheno? The story is written as if Nobby only had the twins. When did Mhaci become MJ mom? They had just found out about MJ but in this story it’s as if Nobby raised him from a little kid. In the previous books Jahari was Myesha bio son but now he is? Idk seemed all over the place.

Bonnie and Clyde

These two Magnolia and Zenobia hasn’t changed a bit and I was so excited to see something new from Miss Jazzie involving them. I love these characters and friends and this book just brought the Queen and King out of retirement because MJ had gotten involved with someone that has connections to their past which has caused him to be in the hospital fighting for his life. Meeting with the Haitians to get back to himself may not have been the best move for Magnolia. Can’t wait for book 2

ahhhhhh

He’s mf’ing back! And they pulled no punches! They came back with a bang! He has something to say and baby was a lot said. Secrets was revealed and baby I was not ready. This man here is going through it. They are taking it from every direction. They have no idea how things are immersed together. The plot twists were bananas and only getting crazier! Ish has gotten real and he is about to crash out! And baby let us pray! Sensational

Magnolia changing trying to be the man Zenobie wants but because of it he's losing control of things; but through all of that more keeps pilling on but his ride or die always by his side holding him down, now that MJ has been hurt the streets are about to bleed. Jahar needs to tell his brother everything about the Haitians because not only the Chinese are causing trouble. This book will have you gasping, crying and laughing it's a must read.

Book Bae is Back!!

The only reason this book is not getting five stars is because of the lack of proofreading and editing. I cannot deny that this was a great read but it definitely needs to be proofread and edited. There were little mistakes at the beginning, but towards the end was worse. However, I am excited for part 2. Can’t wait to see how everything plays out.

Awesome storyline but

I love Miss Jazzie's work. This book has absolutely too many spelling and grammatical errors. I does take away from the story because I am constantly having to correct the errors so I van understand what is going on. The plot is great but please allow the editor s to do their jobs before publishing.

I’m confused

I read all the previous books to this and this on has so many errors. Like how is the son named mason when that’s not his name in other books. How is Machia all of a sudden MJ mom when that was Amerikas mom. I wanted to finish this series but I can’t the rest of the series because this has thrown me all the way off.

Heyyyy Magnolia

Glad to read about Mag again! He's definitely worthy of his own series! So much for retiring, the streets were coming for him anyway. But I don't think the streets are ready. MJ come on a pull through because Nobbie need you! Great job as usual Miss Jazzie!

I love Miss Jazzie

I love anything Miss Jazzie writes but this was way too many grammatical errors and the storyline was off. She forgot what she wrote from chapter to chapter so it was a bit confusing. Nonetheless I'm still gonna read part 2!!!

This book was a little thrown off. Things that were mentioned in the first book doesn’t align with things in this book. Then MJ come on now. I will finish the series but I honestly feel like it’s being stretched and with no good cause.

wow!

I read the other books with Bear, Janiyah and the others. Reading Magnolia’s story is starting to connect some of the dots that I had. Great story so far, but Nobby and Magnolia have an interesting and, dare I say toxic dynamic. Onto Book 2.

Crazy in love

This book has a lot of Drama going on throughout the storyline. Nobby didn’t play when it came to her husband & family, she will put a bullet in you with the quickness. Magnolia is a man with few words.
