261 books2,286 followersI love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.
I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.
After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.
Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.
Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.
One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.

When the author said it was a slow burn romance it is so slow we actually witness the days passing by.
This first book could have been shorter if all the repetitive daily things KC did were removed. We really don't need to read about her running or her espressos she takes every single morning.
The story drags so badly with all these unnecessary moments that there's not a lot of space for the plot. Not that a plot is even present. We get some clues from the prologue. But for now it's more of a guessing game.
Last but the most important thing: I am so sick of authors (specially women) who still write about bullied girls who have the hots for their bullies. KC is sexually assaulted multiple times by Lachlan but her horny vagina still wants him. It doesn't work that way.
And the TA kissing her but still spends his time belittling her... a good unbalanced power romance.
At this point I'm only rooting for Jonas. The other 2 are a big NO

This was a much ado about nothing.
FL wakes up. Brushes teeth. Goes for run. Goes for food. Goes to class. Studies a lot. Gets tutored. Goes to sleep. And somewhere between the riveting pages of her daily life, poured over in painstaking detail, are the 3 fugly douche canoes. (Ok, maybe Jasper has some redeeming things going for him but it’s the stinking principle so hear me out when I say “3”.)
This girl puts up with absolute trash. Not just the empty-noggined ML’s but other students harassing her for hoots too. Payton, RJ, “f*ckboys” (plain arseholes) as she likes to call them, and she does f*ck-all to earnestly stand up for herself. I hate it.
I can sympathize that she’s in a tough spot for how she can react as a big, gossip coulomb, ripe starlet but it was frustrating to be empathetic after reading just how much bullsh*t she turned the other cheek for.
She wasn’t completely meek or passive to those that antagonized her so I’ll give her that but she still should have had a waaaaay better way of dealing with the stupid nubbins that provoked or bothered her. She realistically (in my mind) should have had mad practice at it being the song princess icon that she is.
Payton constantly snapping photos of her? Fck pride and normality. Lawyer up.
Her TA forcing tutoring, changing her course schedule, and being an outright pr*ck to her? Switch classes. Ask to take it online. Avoid it until senior year. Idk. Do something than passively watch people make decisions for you.

Last thing and SPOILER ALERT!
The last chapter ending was ridiculous. The 3 dumb-migos are all brothers? And they’re pissed bc mommy re-married? And they heave all of their resentment at 1 out of 6 other love children their new step-daddy has??
For what reason? Maybe initially, for the first couple of weeks while they were feeling her out, being rancid c*ck-dusters to her make sense bc they’re trying to vent their mommy issues on a harmless stranger. But after months? A whole year? After getting to know her? It is BLISTERINGLY obvious she has no IDEA who these guys are and yet, they belligerently ignore that shinning kernel of obviousness and CONTINUE to be absolute jerk-offs.
Also, it’s completely ridiculous and unbelievable to me no one mentioned at any point that these d*ck-heads were brothers. RJ didn’t let it slip? Payton didn’t mention? Her bestie never once picked up a hint of this in her other classes and living a relatively more normal school experience and removed from the constant KC clusterf*ck?
What reason do these guys really have to be THIS mad at her?
Maybe it’s time I hang up my lover of bully romances hat you guys. I normally love the angst and the fire and the passion and pain that’s all so raw- and normally leads to some kick arse groveling- but this read was just mean for no reason. There’s no reason to like the male idiots. There’s no passionate self-righteous justice I feel from the FL when she’s standing up for herself (bc she’s not really doing a good job of it) or getting to the big revelation about her newest “family” members.
I respect the heck out of her casual third party, cautious observer mindset she has tho. She’s not falling over herself or for these guys within the first couple of chapters and even in the last couple of them her opinions of them haven’t gotten better, she doesn’t love them in the least (as far as I can tell, I was skimming like hell at that point) and at best she’s slightly reluctantly titillated by the Ninja kisses and the Music love connection (the TA is still a blackhole of pompous d*ck face).
I think my favorite part about the last chapter is it sounds like to save her mental and extract herself from an absolutely toxic environment, she did the wise thing and left. She spared literally no more thought on the people encroaching upon her life and leeching what little of a safe space and taste of normality that she could get being who she is. What reason does she have to stay? Who does she owe it to? Not the 3 jerkoffs. Not her very hands off father. Not anyone else.
I hope she burns them (the guys) if they come crawling back for her. I hope she clearly doesn’t give af about them anymore and she doesn’t let them affect her. I hope she warns her other siblings about what stinking marmot weasels they are. I hope, if these guys do manage to get a second chance (bc they always do) they grow rapidly and stunningly as characters and not just living, walking, arrogant phalluses.

Problem Child is the first book in the Blue Ivy Prep series. It tells the story of KC and her journey from teenage rockstar to a regular academy student trying to live a somewhat normal life. Things aren’t as easy as KC thought they would be, as she finds herself struggling with her grades and fitting in with her peers.
I just wanted to say that Heather was not kidding when she said the book was a slow burn. It’s not a bad thing; it's actually great for world building; however, it’s just something I avoid in books in general because I often cannot keep interested. Honestly, I struggled with the first half of the book, but I’m glad I kept reading because I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I love KC! She is young, sassy, and incredibly determined. She faces every challenge head on, and I really do love that about her. Throw in three hot AF Alphaholes who are all trying to stake their claim, and you have a great story!
I can’t wait for the next book in the series! I need answers badly after that cliffhanger! IYKYK!

This was my first read by Heather Long and the premise of this story completely sucked me in. Plus how pretty is the cover!!
What I loved:
- KC is such an unapologetic, totally kickass rockstar who I was rooting for from the get-go
- The inner dialogue of KC is hilarious at times, she certainly brings some humor
- The three hot alpha holes that each seem to bring something different to the table
- The secrets and developing story that is about to unfold in book 2
What I didn't love as much:
- I found the pacing of the story to be a little slow. It is a slow burn but some areas dragged a bit too much for me
- Although we got to know a tiny bit about each of the three MMCs, I felt like we still knew nothing by the end of the book - I would have loved a little bit more of a connection to be made with each of them. I can see how it will develop so I understand the authors need to lay the groundwork, but I just felt it needed... more!
Overall this was a good start to the series, all the action happened in the last few pages and that has excited me for book 2, I'm interested to see how this will all play out.

Problem Child is a Why Choose, Slowburn, Academy Novel with some bullying. It is the first book of a brand new series by Heather Long. This was such an entertaining, fun, fast read. I love the main character KC, she is a teenage Rockstar just trying to find a little bit of normalcy. There is a lot going on in her life that only her closest friends know but lots of assumptions are made by the rest of the world. She has quick wit and great interactions with the mean kids. All of the love interests in this book could not be more different from one another. Each one has strengths that speak to KC as well as give her pause. We of course have been left with a cliffhanger and the unknown has left me desperately waiting for book two. I can't wait to see where the series takes these characters and what question it will answer.

What in intriguing, complicated, and immersive beginning to the Blue Ivy World! Character driven, mysterious, and brimming with tension, Problem Child is a great world-building forward beginning to the rockstar turned elite boarding school student and all her drama with some very perplexing anti-heroes.
This is a delicious, slow burning bully reverse harem starring a sassy but sweet rockstar heroine who decides to do what any rockstar dreams of - going back to school (okay probably not…) This is a suuuuuper slow burn (KC’s hair isn’t the only blue thing after the end of this book 😂😂), and our heroes are mostly mega jerk alpha aholes - little charm to find just yet (minus the ninja kisses❤️), but the enemies to future lovers tension is intense, and I love our heroine so. Not to mention we’ve got elite boarding school vibes- it’s like gossip girl meets Josie and the Pussy Cats and I’m here for that combination. Add in a bit of mystery and a maybe-fan-stalker, and this first book sets us up for a fun series.
This book did start pretty slowly for me- a lot of day to day of our heroine's school life and more delayed introduction to our potential leading men. I'm still not sure who these characters are just yet, or even who is in the actual harem (though our ending has me feeling more secure in my assessment), but I do love our heroine, she goes a lot against the rockstar trope and I love that for once we have a female rockstar as the center of the story. The last 20% had me salivating for the dynamics that I'm hoping to explore more in book 2- and that our chemistry pivots away from the lusty animosity/bully vibes into the nuances we saw at the end. It's gonna be yummy!
And HOLY SHIT HEATHER what was that cliffie?!?! What a double whammy of shocks that take this story to a whole new level- did not see that coming and I can’t wait to see how it plays out!On a special note this book is dedicated to a very special person that the world lost unexpectedly last year. Thanks Heather to telling a story Harley would have loved.

I loved this! This is book one of a new series and it defiantly sets the tone! Full of angst and tension! I was definately on my toes wanting to know what’s happening next.
KC is a rockstars and movie stars daughter that made a name for her self as well with her friends in a band. KC wants more out of life and decides it’s time for some normalcy. She and her best friends enroll in Blue Ivy Prep. She gets a lot on her plate and that includes the eye of a few young men. The guys a e all so different but seem to catch KC’s attention regardless. I c ant wait for them to figure what these guys have in mind now that the bomb is dropped.
What a cliffy that was! Totally killer and I’m dying to know what’s going to happen next!

This was my first book by Heather Long and I’m definitely a fan. It is a bit slower as we see more of KC’s daily life and adjusting to school rather than touring, but I didn’t mind at all! There were two twists at the end that I didn’t expect at all which I LOVE. I love when an author can pull one over on me and my jaw definitely dropped.
I’m so excited for the next book, I already know it’s going to get juicy. I mean the drama is already pretty high but after book one? We are going to be gagging for more, calling it now. There are so many secrets I’m still trying to figure out but I enjoy a good guessing game so looking forward to see how it all plays out!

KC and her bandmate Aubrey enroll in Blue Ivy Prep so she could experience being a normal girl. But from the get go she's harassed by students and judged by lying tabloids. Her movie star mother is a hot mess who KC has to drop everything to parent and her rock-star father is uninterested in his many children and MIA. Then there's a creepy stalker who's escalating.
This was a new to me author and I had a great time. For a while now I've been going through the motions with books. Nothing's grabbed me in while like this story has. I inhaled this book in less than a day, stealing reads at work. For the most part, I liked KC when she wasn't having body betrayal over Lachlan bullying her. Wish she had more clap-back moments. I very much wanted him to die in a fire. But by the end, his possessiveness won me over and I found their make out sessions hot. Ramsey was such an arrogant ass. I spent most of the time hating him. The only one I really liked was Jonas, especially since he was protective over her. I get the vibe that he's on the spectrum though. The end was a hell of a cliffhanger and the guys' relationship reveal. My heart broke for Kc. Now I want her piece of shit dad to die in a fire. On to the next book.

I mean, I did read the part about it being a slow burn but I didn't realize that meant 2-3 books later...
I feel like you could have cut half of this book out and still gotten the same story. I don't need to read the same day over and over... wake up, go running, drink coffee, go to class, repeat.
So extremely repetitive with a few little issues here and there.
I also don't really understand why her 'bully' is messing with her. The girlfriend I understand, the guy is never explained. I also don't understand the draw to him...

I really wanted to love this one but in all honesty I was bored.
This was a slow burn, why choose, bully romance and nothing really happened for a long time and I just found myself not caring. I picked up this book purely because of how much I loved this cover.

I’d like to start by saying that I really did enjoy this book. I went in already really fascinated by the premise… a rockstar why choose where she goes back to school to try to lead a normal life? Sounds awesome! And again, I very much did like it.
Not only was the plot already a green flag for me, but I also adored KC as a main character. Even though she has a bad reputation and everyone has preconceived notions about her and her life, no matter how unfounded those ideas might be, I loved that she chose not to let the rumors and tabloid fodder bring her down, instead focusing on her friends, family and working harder on catching up at school.
I think this book laid the groundwork for what could be a really good series, that said, I did find a few minor drawbacks. While I know the author clarified that future books would be multi-POV, and I have no doubt the decision to make this book one perspective was a conscious decision to avoid giving away plot points from later in the book, that said, I do believe this book would have benefited from having multiple POV characters. I am aware that this is clearly meant to be a very slow burn, but I do wish we as readers were given a bit more insight into the other characters' thoughts a motivations along the way. I personally felt like I knew nothing about the love interests or their personalities by the end of this book, which truthfully made it difficult for me to feel fully invested in them or their respective future relationships with KC. I have no doubt that will change in the next book, and this by no means is to say that I enjoyed the book any less. It’s just a little nitpick I have. That said, by the last chapter, I was hooked and I can't wait to see where we go from here.

WOW! This book was amazing. It took me a little longer than normal to get into this one. I was unfamiliar with the backstory and appreciated the authors intro in the beginning for those of us that were new to these characters.
KC is an amazing character! I loved that she didn't feel the need to explain herself to anyone, even if 99% of the time, they were completely wrong about her. It was her business and hers alone... if she was close to you, then you knew what was going on, if not - then keep your nose out of it!
The boys - Lachlan, Ramsey and Jonas.... my oh my, I definitely did not see any of those twists coming in the end! All arrogant, alpha meat heads in their own right - but their is just some alluring. This is my first of Heather’s books and I have to say I will be reading more!
Problem Child is a slow burn/RH. I absolutely love boarding school/academia setting. KC and her two bff’s are a band/rockstars. KC wants a taste of normalcy and boy does this girl get it…we’ll kind of.
When I saw this was a slow burn I wasn’t sure what to expect. But boy it’s a really SLOWWWW burn. Not saying that’s bad, and I like a good slow burn and this series is definitely heading that way. This book set up a lot for what I think is to come in this series. A lot of it I felt could have moved a little faster, almost like most of the book just followed KC and her day to day. I still really enjoyed it though. I really like KC and I think that’s why I didn’t mind the slow pace of the story. She’s interesting and complex. She’s a great FMC so far.
The guys well I’ll have to wait and see, I definitely did not get enough of them yet. I will say RJ creeped me out from the beginning and of course I loved douche bags one, two and three. The last 10% of the book, a few tidbits where given and enough to have me grabbing for book 2. The wait will be torture after that cliffy!

This is the first book by Heather that i’ve read and I really enjoyed it! KC is a popstar and when she decides to go back to school it isn’t easy for her in regards to most people knowing about her. She is head strong and resilient and doesn’t care what anyone thinks! She proves to herself over and over again how she can achieve anything and that’s proof with her getting an A in all of her classes.
At the school there are 4 guys who’ve caught her attention, RJ who she occasionally runs with and kinda has a crush on, Lachlan who torments her when she is running and is always kissing her, Jonas is who silent and broody but gives her sheet music and then we have TA Malone who thinks that KC is a privileged bitch and tutors her
The ending got me good because I didn’t expect it at all! Can’t wait to see what happens next!

This is my first Heather Long book! The moment I saw the cover I was drawn to this wild FMC on the cover. Her bright hair and her tattoos reminded me a lot of myself from the exterior so I couldn’t not pick it up!
Problem child was a wild ride and I savoured every moment of it. It is filled with angst, drama, asshole boys and wonderful friends.
So much happens in this book! There is KC herself and how she is trying to be normal for once, the drama between the 3 asshole boys at the school, the relationships between her Mum, Dad and other siblings AND the mysterious Forever Fan. And I think I left out some things.
This book is fast paced, intriguing and a ride. Can’t wait for the sequel!

I absolutely love Heather's books! She does an amazing job pulling in from the first chapter and keeping me hooked until the very end. I don't want to give any spoilers away. So, I will just say I am loving KC character. I can't wait to see how the series will progress.
The book ended on an amazing cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait for the next book in the series Mad Boys to be released on March 14, 2023.
I would highly recommend this book if you like contemporary romances, reverse harem romances, or bully romances.

Oh this book was so freaking good, I could barely put it down. First good chunk of the book is character introduction, world building and just the whole thing of the fmc, a teenage rockstar trying desperately to cling to a little bit of normalcy. If by normal, you mean a classmate with rage issues, a TA who likes to berate and belittle her and telling her what to do instead of asking. And a guy who gives out ninja kisses like it’s Halloween candy. Sure, let’s just go with normal. Honestly, so much happens in this book that my head spun. I’m invested and I can’t wait for book 2!

I enjoyed this! The author always creates great characters, and I love how they all start connecting and it isn't always instant love and all fluffy and perfect. The characters have to work a bit more for it.
I did dock a star because sometimes there is a bit too much overthinking/internal monologue for the FMC and a little too quick to judge/sass? Plus the over the top BFF/ride or die thing amongst her close friends. But none the less, I do love the authors work and characters and will be reading the next one!

I read this as an ARC and I am leaving Arnos review voluntarily.
Where do I start?
Love authors work and love KC when she was not the main character. That being said she is an amazing character has some wicked chemistry with some her characters like her band mates.
Very slow burn in parts and also annoying in others little nuisance with characters. Will be interesting to see what she does with the story.

So freaking slow that even skimming over it, it took forever to get even 50% through the book. Technically, I DNF this book, but I did skim all the way to the end. I have read and enjoyed plenty of slow burn novels, but this is slow burn to the point of just being a boring day to day account of a pushover female protagonist. I really wanted to like her, but she wasn't written in a way that made her likeable. :/

So the blurb on this one really doesn’t do it justice. It’s totally slow burn and a bit of world building the first part but you really can’t help but needing to know what is gonna happen. I have so many unanswered questions and that cliffy was just 😭

We have been waiting for KC and she's here! KC decides to try doing normal for a bit but life never really goes as planned especially when you are a rockstar. This is the start of what's going to be a really intense fun series. I really can't wait for the next book.

OMG! KC just wanted to experience normal. She takes a sabbatical from her rocker life and enrolls in Blue Ivy Prep. But her life doesn’t lend itself to normal. I just wanted to hug her and wrap her heart in bubble wrap. And the ending left me gasping. Bring on the next book asap!
