A novelette of 14,000 words, sequel to Hambly's Antryg and Joanna stories. When Joanna's cousin claims that her bridegroom has been possessed, exiled wizard Antryg Windrose is called in to investigate and if possible fix the situation. The answer seems to lie in the peaceful resort town of Blue Moon Bay on the Central Coast of California - center for all sorts of occult and New Age businesses - hidden inside a labyrinth within a labyrinth of ancient secrets and immortal monsters.
Ranging from fantasy to historical fiction, Barbara Hambly has a masterful way of spinning a story. Her twisty plots involve memorable characters, lavish descriptions, scads of novel words, and interesting devices. Her work spans the Star Wars universe, antebellum New Orleans, and various fantasy worlds, sometimes linked with our own.
"I always wanted to be a writer but everyone kept telling me it was impossible to break into the field or make money. I've proven them wrong on both counts." -Barbara Hambly
For those who have read the Darkmage trilogy, this is a fun escapade with our heroes acting just like themselves. If you have not read the Windrose Chronicles, do that first. These are my favorite Hambly characters. They bring me joy with every story I read about them.
The mirror can be more than a reflection. But then what happens?
This was a really good story with more incredible things to learn about our characters. So much goes on but one thing stands out. Stay away from antique mirrors!!!
Antryg is a favorite character of mine so I'm always happy to see a Further Adventure featuring him and Joanna, though it's a little weird to realize these are still set in the eighties for continuity.
Another enjoyable adventure with Joanne and Antryg, though as always I think it should have been longer. Hambly managed to make it run smoothly despite this and even addressed some of Antryg's trauma.
