Never has there ever been less chemistry between two characters. I've read Alexandra Moody's hockey romance and LOVED them cuz there was such good chemistry but this book seriously disappointed me.
I gave it 2 stars because I think there were cute moments between the FMC and her friends, and occasionally between the two love interests (occasionally meaning once or twice), but it was honestly just a shallow, emotionless mess. I can't even be bothered to read the next books.
The amount of attempts at heartfelt moments, conflict and romance was plenty. And let me tell you, 90% of the time they failed. We didn't even meet the MMC until about 1/3 through the book, which could be ok if we actually got to know him. There was, at most, 10 conversations between the two love interests, so the "love" really stemmed from nowhere. I had to try not to gauge my eyes out and roll on the floor screaming (I'm only exaggerating a little) every time there was a "deep" conversation where people talked about feelings or anything because it was just so forced and cringey. It hurt to read tbh.
The switch from "oh we just can't be together" to "oh my i just feel absolutely magical when I'm around you" was also enough to give me whiplash. Like girl make up your mind. it just added to the lack of emotion in the whole book.
Now, Im not one to say that characters need to just get over their trauma, but this girl really needed to get over it. The FMC was just annoying and more pathetically insecure than even me. It could have been easier to sympathize if I had felt anything other than sleepy while reading the book.
Overall, it was just plain. It felt poorly put together and devoid of all emotion. I swear my (emotionally stupid) brother could write a more convincing romance about the love between a trash can and the garbage bag that inhabits it.
