The Elementals have been hunted for generations, none surviving to see adulthood.
But the rules have been changed.
And now Kaia, a powerful witch with the power to control the earth itself, is being made to call her protector early in a hope to save her life from the evil that is quickly coming her way.
But what if she doesn't want to?
What if she doesn't want to doom another to the same fate that has been dealt her?
Or what if the one chosen is perfect for her in every way?
The one she has always loved?
The one that she pushed away all those years ago... to protect him?
At the age of 16 E.M. Reders watched a certain boy wizard movie and instantly wanted to read the books. Since that day she has been an addictive reader of fantasy both YA and Adult and now 10 years later is bringing her own fantasy series to life. When she isn't nose deep in her Kindle or typing away she is chasing round 2 (soon to be 3, or 4 if you include the husband) children and a crazy dog.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is my own personal opinion.
Kaia is the Earth witch - one of the Four Elementals, the most powerful witches who control earth, air, water, and fire. Therefore she is special, she is powerful (or will be when her full powers come in), and she is in constant danger - as the Four have been hunted and killed by a demon since the original Four centuries ago. Ethan is a werewolf, set to become an alpha one day. He hasn't yet found his true mate. The wolves and the witches haven't been friendly for a long time, but once when they were younger, Kaia and Ethan had been friends. Kaia needs to find her protector - her mate, but she doesn't want to as she has worked hard to push everyone away to keep them safe from the anticipated early death she will have. Ethan needs to find his true mate. And so it begins....
This book grabbed me from the first page.....then it began to fall short. And it's FRUSTRATING because this world, these characters - the whole premise of this book and series has so much potential. The characters, both leading and supportive, are really likeable; strong, funny, enjoyable. The world this author has created is clever and original, especially all about the Elementals. I wanted to know more and to invest in this story and these characters....but unfortunately the execution was just so poor that it let down the story.
The writing was riddled with numerous editing mistakes where words were missing, incorrect, or misspelled (who edited this?!). The story itself was so entirely predictable right the way through, until perhaps the end which was a little different but still in the realm of predictable. And it went from a good pace to, at about half way, very rushed and fast paced - which would be fine if the story didn't suffer and become one dimensional. Plus the relationships and sex was just so cheesy and cringe - largely I think down to the shift to one dimensional writing which detaches you from the characters, coupled with the fast paced explicit sex. Explicit sex is fine...if it's believable and in tune with the characters/story. My biggest pet peeve though is misunderstandings between characters that could be resolved with a simple conversation, and that form a huge basis for the story. It is frustrating. It is annoying. It is off-putting. And unfortunately this is what happens in this book only to be resolved super quick and never thought of again.
While I am tempted to read the next book I just know if it's anything like this one then it's going to fall flat, so I probably won't bother.

On one side, you have Kaia. She is a witch, one of the more powerful witches existing. She learned at eleven that she was special; she was one of the elemental witches, Earth. But with that powers come danger: a demon seeks all the elementals in each generation to kill them before they could become too powerful, once reunited and with their protectors, and able to kill him. None of the previous elementals, and the people close to them, survived so Kaia decided to push everyone away, especially the boy she was closed to as a child.
On the other side, you have Ethan. He is a werewolf, son of the Alpha of the pack. He was the secret friend of Kaia that she pushed away as a child. He hadn’t found his true mate yet and has been in a relationship based on sex with a wolf from his pack for years. One day, like all the un-mated wolf of his pack, he attended a ceremony during which a protector (and a mate) of a witch needing protection will be appointed, not knowing it was for the friend of his past, Kaia.
I don’t usually read book when it is written at the first person but I made exception sometimes when the synopsis really interest me. There were parts of this book that I really liked. The universe created by the author with the elementals was really interesting but just not exploited enough. It could have been good but it seemed too superficial, the plot too predictable. There was also several syntax and grammatical mistakes that bothered even me, a person for whom English isn’t the first language. The story seemed rushed, and while you can enjoy a story even if there are a few editing errors, it is difficult when there is too little character and plot development also. The story could have been really great, it’s a pity. I didn't read the first version of the book to compare but it still need work.
While I loved the concept and the female lead, Kaia, the writing looked like a first draft and was very distracting as I found myself correcting the writing as I read. I mean, at one point, we were in Kaia's POV and she thought "my dick" instead of "his dick". I think with editing and polish, could be a very good story. Though I have to say, there are certain words that when used in the intimate scenes are very distracting, because using such words (in my opinion) is crass, and not sexy or a turn-on. Sometimes these words were used nearly 10 times on a single page! Completely pulled me out of the story. Descriptions didn't have a lot of emotion attached to them, so didn't find myself invested in the characters, except maybe Kaia. She was a self-less and strong character. Sorry, wasn't for me.
I really enjoyed this book. I think this will make a great series. The author has a nice writing style, but the book could definitely benefit of one more edit. There are a few mistakes but nothing that would keep you from enjoying the book. The plot is very good and kept me reading. I had a tough time putting this one down.
Kaia is a fitting heroine and really likeable. She trys to do what she thinks is best, even though at times she might not know better. She is determine to protect the ones she loves and going to great lenghts to do so. Ethan grew on me throughout the story and definitely makes a great main character besides Kaia.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one. Hopefully that one will come out soon.
I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)
I received this book in exchange for a honest review.
Kaia is the Earth witch. One of the Four Elemental's. Born to bring balance to the paranormal world. But also hunted by a demon to prevent a prophecy. After finding out who she was and what her fate was she pushed all those she loved away. Until the day of her 21st birthday when she is to choose her protector, her mate. Ethan is a werewolf and the son of the Alpha. He met Kaia when they were 11. Began to fall in love with her but then she changed and left but he doesn't understand why.
I loved that Kaia was a strong lead and didn't immediately fall at Ethan's feet. This series has a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to reading more.
I was given a free copy of this book for a review.
I do like the story, although it could use more dimension, and a great deal of editing. Many times not only were there misspelled words, or missing words, there was an extreme tense confusion. And I found myself so put off by the many times is saw "was" where it didn't belong... "I was stood..."
The sex scenes were rushed with poor amounts of build up. The coming about of Jennifer and Frankie had an unnecessary amount of drama tied to it. It is very close to being a really good read.
With that said, I like the story and the characters. If you have an editor, fire them and get a new one, if you don't have one, get one.

I really wanted to love this story. The summary instantly drew me in, and I really liked the concept. However, I feel like there could have been so much more. I found the characters likable, but there wasn't enough character development. There was a lot of predictability in the story, so for me, there wasn't the anticipation and excitement of what would happen when I turned the page, because I had already figured it out. I think this story has a lot of potential, and with some polishing and a good editor (it definitely needs it) as well as some more development to the characters and plot, it could be a great series.
I received a copy of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. Below is my opinion of the book EarthBorn By E.M. Reders
I enjoyed the concept of this book. I liked the fact that this book included more than one type of supernatural being. With that being said there were some grammatical errors & I felt that some parts were rather repetitive, while others could have used a bit more description and detail. But getting past that I really enjoyed the book and found myself not wanting to put it down and needed wanted to keep reading to find out what happened Looking forward to the next book
I received this book for free with Lovers of Paranormal for my honest review. I really enjoyed the world E.M. Reders created with this book. I loved the characters they were funny and down to earth. The main characters were strong and believable. I love how unique this story was created to be. I was hooked from the first chapter. Other than this story being predictable I really enjoyed the read!
I enjoyed the book. It had strong main characters and though some major issues/misunderstandings could've been solved with a conversation, I still enjoyed the overall concept and story and I'm very happy with how it turned out. I also wished there had been more of a bigger ending, but that was fine because just because I like big, action filled endings doesn't mean every book has one!
