Under the Never Sky #0.5-3

Under the Never Sky: The Complete Series Collection

Rate this book
Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games and Divergent series, Veronica Rossi's trilogy has been called "inspired, offbeat, and mesmerizing" (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) and "incredibly original" (Seventeen.com). This collection includes all three novels and two novellas in the series.

Under the Never Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive. A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption.

Roar and Before Perry and Aria, there was Roar and Liv. Set in the harsh but often beautiful world of Veronica Rossi's "unforgettable" Under the Never Sky (Examiner.com), this captivating prequel novella stands on its own for new readers and offers series fans a fascinating look into the character of Roar. Poignant and powerful, Roar and Liv is a love story that will "capture your imagination and your heart" (Justine on Under the Never Sky).

Through the Ever It's been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don't take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe's precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.

Following the stunning climax in Through the Ever Night, the Tides have been forced to seek shelter from the Aether storms in a dismal, secluded cave. But Brooke's memories of the cave go back much further, to when she and Perry used to come here together. Set just before the events of Into the Still Blue, this breathtaking novella is a satisfying stand-alone for new readers as well as an exciting glimpse at favorite characters from the trilogy.

Into the Still The earth-shattering conclusion to Veronica Rossi's epic Under the Never Sky trilogy. Their love and their leadership have been tested. Now it's time for Perry and Aria to unite the Dwellers and the Outsiders in one last desperate attempt to bring balance to their world.

The first few pages of Under The Never Sky were rocky for me, seemingly overly juvenile in both scene and language. However, after Aria finds herself outside with a "savage", Perry, the story starts to sweep you up.

I liked how the romance developed & wasn't some insta love. I also liked how she wasn't portrayed as, given that all she'd ever known was her virtual, safe world, some insta bad ass. She was vulnerable & naive... Yet equally as willful and determined.

Perry was sulky, moody, strong, brave, & quick witted when it came to just about everything in life & she seemed to bring all his defenses down, but didn't make him a lesser man in the process (unlike Four in Allegiant ehhh)

The supporting characters were very well developed, especially Roar.

The setting of "tribal" outside world with its dangers vs "pods" of safe virtual reality was vividly described.

I did find the scene about Aria's first period a little distasteful and completely unnecessary to the story.

Otherwise, the Under The Never Sky had a little bit of everything- romance, action, & a little mystery.

Book 2 in the series, Through The Ever Night, was equally good, read fast pace, and continued perfectly from its' predecessor, eventually lending to entirely new adventures. I'm 3/4 through book 3, Into The Still Blue, & it's a lot of rehashing for the first bit of the book, but eventually leads elsewhere.

I give the trilogy 3 stars because I've enjoyed it, but it's not something I'll swoon over or want to pick up and read again.

"People can be cruelest to those they love."

—  Veronica Rossi, Under the Never Sky

-

I had always been a fan of science-fiction but I didn't realize it until I read this series. The events get stronger and stronger as you progress through the story line. Unlike other books, Under The Never Sky gets more adventurous as you read through the rest of the series, not getting boring when you read the sequel.

Would definitely recommend for fans of Matched, Divergent, Hunger Games, and people who are fans of adventure with a hint of romance.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this series. It kind of reminded me of Tamara Rose Blodgett's Savage Series.

Both feature a girl as a main character who is strong and determined to survive in the harsh world she has been thrown into. Fortunately, in Under The Never Sky, Aria, the girl, doesn't get beat up in almost every chapter.

It's another series that among its entertaining aspects, still manages to point out even when your government is being altruist, the people's best interest is the last item on their agenda. The characters come to life in vivid color under the turbulent skies that almost destroyed humanity. The plot is believable and well balanced.

I enjoyed the series so much I read the whole series twice. Was kind of upset when I had to give it back. (They weren't my books. Dang library!).

This story has absolutely consumed me. I loved it so much that i'm still stuck in my book hangover from it almost 4 days later! The world is intriguing and unique, and the characters are unique and i find myself caring deeply about each of them. I love that this series does not have the oh so cliche' YA love triangle and rebellion. I'm pretty done with books that contain those two things...and so this was so refreshing to have such a wonderfully done story that does not include those two annoying cliches'! The two novellas add SO MUCH to the story, and really should be read in order. I did not do this and i really wish i would have! though it was still wonderful either way! If you love sci-fi/dystopias with some romance, some action, and and awesome storytelling, then READ THIS SERIES!! Absolutely my new favorite. I plan on reading it many more times in the future.

I actually listened to the series via audio while driving too and from work at first, and then added it to my before sleep listening. I enjoyed each book equally and am now a Veronica Rossi fan.

Aria and her community of YA live a naive and cushy life with a structure that is humdrum which fuels the YA to seek adventure and intrigue . . . .

The story does a good job at portraying good character, bravery, courage, and the unity of community and family. Of course there are moral issues and the normal darkness that requires us to discern what is right and what is wrong with society and within ourselves along the way . . . .

I would listen to this series on audio again, but there are too many others to visit!

Hmm, I actually prefer the two short novellas to the novels proper. Largely because both Perry and Aria are tedious. Roar can be annoying but his character makes sense. Brooke gets minimal characterization beyond 'woman scorned' in the novels, but I still prefer her voice in her short novella to Aria's dozens of chapters. The plot ends...conveniently, though we have to trudge through endless pages of Boring Yet Angsty OTP Perry/Aria to get there.

Follows Aria, a girl from a sheltered environment called the Pod, who is exiled to the dangerous outside world known as the Death Shop. There, she meets Perry, a member of a savage tribe. Together, they navigate threats from their worlds while uncovering secrets that could change everything. The trilogy explores survival, love, and the search for belonging.

Exceptionnel. Une dystopie si bien réfléchie et bien pensée, dont la réalité se rapproche de la nôtre chaque jour un peu plus. Une de mes séries préférées de tous les temps.

OVERALL: 3.9 stars

Roar and Liv (Under the Never Sky 0.5) - 4 stars

This was a great insight into roar and Liv's feelings and relationship. This made me love roar's character even more and I love getting the fresh perspective on Liv.

I also really liked how we get to see a different side to Perry and the life he had to grow up with. I liked seeing the different family dynamics that is hinted at in the first book.

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky #1) - 5 stars
Aria liked her world of make believe in the realms until they turned into a horrifying reality that she had to face caused of letting a savage into the building she is cast out on her own away from the only home she has ever known and into an unknown world she has spent her life fearing. Perry grew up in this world and learned how to survive but he now needs the help of one person who doesn't belong in the world he grew up to help him get his nephew back.

This was quite the story. The only thing that I didn't really like about it was the time span increments at some points. I up fully understand the rationale behind it but I just kept getting annoyed.

I loved how this wasn't a love at first sight story and that the characters had to learn and understand from one another. Rossi did a great job in showing the different worlds that both aria and Perry grew up in and plausibly making them fit together in something neither fully understood.

I was a little confused about Perry's abilities in the beginning but Rossi did a good job fully explaining everything by the end.

Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2) - 4.5 stars
As aria is forced back into the outside lands while being blackmailed by Hess, Perry is finding his life just as difficult trying to be the new leader of the tides especially when the storms are increasing and hunger is very real threat. But overcoming the odds is what both of them do best and when they are together they can fight through any hardship.

This had an interesting turn of events for me. I love how the story line is going together with the characters and how even though aria and Perry are so good together they are also able to stand on their own, as seen a lot in this book.

Brooke (Under the Never Sky #2.5) - 2 stars
I didn't like Brooke before and I don't like Brooke now after reading this. This little excerpt seemed kind of pointless in the skim of things. I could have done without reading it. We did get some good insight into Brooke’s character but nothing that I thought was noteworthy or redeeming. It seemed more of a boy crazed session than anything else.

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) - 4 stars
Everything has changed and betrayal is seen everywhere. With Cinder captured, Aria and Perry have to find a way to stop Hess and Sable from their plan. As their world is coming to an end due to the Aether and epic battle will ensue for who will be able to make it to the Still Blue.

This book was not exactly how I was thinking the story as going to go and that was a delightful surprise. I liked how Rossi put in the good and bad of things with Aria and Perry’s relationship in this one, a couple can’t always be happy about everything. I felt really bad for Roar but I am glad about how the ending turned out.

This was a great series and I am excited to see what the author has in store next.

I was going to do reviews for each book in the series separately, but as I finished the series I realized I gave them each the same rating. So to speed things up for you the curious reader, I will review the entire series in one fowl swoop.

So, book one is Under the Never Sky. This book is very in-depth and interesting. The premise is post apocalyptic, with a tinge of "whats wrong with us today". It touches on many current day problem such as pollution and its damage on the environment, segregation due to differences, and the constant use of technology. All in all, this action packed romance has a lot of moral lesson. It is a worth while read.

Book two is called Through the Ever Night. This was an emotional book. I'll be honest, it had me crying a lot. I cried a river then went rafting down it. description *the feels* In addition, I learned in this book that Veronica is a very smart author in the way she made every book connect seamlessly, but separately each book had its own major challenge. I believe that that is why I was never bored reading this trilogy. Although, Through the Ever Night was my least favorite book of the series, it was still a very good read.

The third and final book is Into the Still Blue. After the last two books, I was glad to find the third book was dealing with the ultimate and underlying problem in the entire series. This book was a giant do or die. Very intense. I refuse to give away anything that could ruin anything for you the potential reader, to be safe Ill stop here.

All of these books are very good, not the best books that have ever read, but they are better then a lot of the books that have been coming out recently. I do recommend it, but not to people who are sick of post apocalyptic novels.. So, as I said in the beginning I gave all of the books, in the end, the same rating. I give these books each FOUR STARS!!

Overall, not a bad series. Have some issues with the individual books and the novellas could have been left unwritten. I think I like Aria's growth overall. She started off weak in body but not mind or spirit. Then she grew in all three. I'm a bit surprised by how quickly she developed her "Sense" when we had no idea she came from the Outsider and Dweller worlds. That seemed a bit contrived. I knew who her father was right away, so that wasn't surprising. It was sweet though. I would have liked to see their relationship grow. Perry was an interesting character. I think he may have fallen for Aria kind of fast but in the end, I liked the two of them together. Perry is one of those characters who should have been the older sibling considering how much he looked after everyone. That's the one quality I found in him that's similar to me. I have this unrelenting need to make sure everyone is taken care of, even if they don't depend on me. I like that about him and his friendship with Roar. Now Roar, no words are necessary for him. Loved him. Everything about him. I'm shocked and upset by the numerous deaths in this one. Most of them seemed unnecessary but I get why it was done. I still believe some of those characters were needed to continue helping certain characters grow.

I have the first book, which I think I like most of all. Sable was villainized way too much. Seemed over the top to me. He had a vision, had a way to realize it, and did what he felt was necessary to do so. Now Hess was a real villain, yet he was made to seem like a victim. Might go through and re-read the series to provide a more thorough review for each book. Except the novellas. They can burn in the fiery depths of hell. LOL

I really enjoyed this series, reading each one quickly as I couldn't wait to finish the final book and find out if they find the Still Blue. I have recommended several times over to my friends and students. The characters are the type that you root for and want to see find happiness. Each piece of the world that Veronica Rossi created is easily pictured and the dual point of view let's you dig deep into the personalities of both Aria and Perry. Their development over the course of the series shows that they are characters you can actually stand behind. Initially, I wasn't so sure, as Aria seemed to be slightly pathetic and underwhelming while Perry just seemed to be a childish jerk. Once you get into the first book, it's clear that isn't the case.

There is love story that spans all of the books and it does reach levels that may be considered inappropriate for the middle school crowd. I think that at this point, most chapter books on the YA level will have that relationship piece that parents need to be aware exists.

“She absorbed the terror and beauty of him and his world. Of every moment over the past days. All of it, filling her up like the first breath she'd ever taken. And never had she loved life more.”
― Veronica Rossi, Under the Never Sky

I'll admit I'm such a sucker for future dystopian books. It's been a while since I've read this series but it still resonates with me. The characters start off kind of juvenile. They are teenagers and they sound like it sometimes. They annoy you. You almost root against them. But then they hit you with real emotions, emotions to which anyone can relate. Aria is a relateable character and her character development was amazing throughout this series. You watch her blossom from a selfish girl (at times) into a fully fleshed-out character with many different dimensions and emotions. The ending brings everything together in a perfectly resolved way. You come away from this series loving that world and all the characters within it.

I really liked this series and thought the clash between worlds was cool. It was a gritty story and you never knew what was going to happen. At the end of book 3 I was happy it was finally over. I suggested these books to a friend of mine as an alternative to read after the Hunger Games. It is an intense coming of age journey epic love story kinda book.

I wish they would have played up Aria's gift more.....seemed like it got lost in the plot of the 3rd book. Also, the Dome people seemed to be written very shallow and 1 dimensional....I like to see characters developed a little more....maybe the author was in a hurry to finish it. I believe people have reasons for being like they are, instead it seems so many authors have good guys verses bad guys and there is no in-between. No explanation of what made them that way. When in reality everyone is a little of both; Good and Bad.

Things I liked about this book: the story did move along at a good pace

Things I did not like:
Unrealistic romance
Settings that were too vague to really see
Too many unanswered questions and plot holes-- WAAAAY too many plot holes
The author moves the story into settings and situations that are just.... They don't feel natural. They feel like she was trying to describe a dream where the setting and people keep shifting. Stuff kept happening that didn't actually feel like it was right for the characters...

Overall, I would not recommend this series

I bought the whole trilogy, and then let it sit on my phone for a year before finally giving it another chance! I was completely bored by the first few chapters of "Under." Just didn't resonate at all with me. Fortunately, new engaging characters are quickly added, and it became more interesting. Ultimately, I enjoyed the whole series and really like the characters. Nothing too intense, neither the violence or romance, but enjoyable. I'd recommend it for a teen or adult who likes dystopian fiction.

The beginning of the series was a little too slow for me. I don't think that author bothered much to introduce the readers to this " new" world. I was lost and didn't understand quite well all the tech sci-fi stuff. But once I got used to it, the story flew at incredible pace

I confess That I was expecting something epic for the end of the series but I'm content with how it ended it.

I didn't care much for Roar, Liv and Brooke's story but I understand why the author chose to do it.

Love, love, love this series!
I absolutely adore this series, from the very beginning. I mean who wouldn’t with a storyline like this? And a MC like Perry? And a heroine as strong as Aria?
I also loved the extras on this series, though, I could use a little more of Perry and Aria.
Veronica Rossi? If you’re reading this, I’m just saying, throw a girl an epilogue. Or a POV scene or something!

I agree with the previous readers that it had a slow start and the characters seemed a bit juvenile, but it became endearing as you moved to the story and forgot about the names of the characters and concentrated more on their content. I really thought it was exciting and really couldn't wait to see what the author would create for the ending as I saw many possibilities for the outcome.

I like this book quite a lot. I love roar. He's my favo. Perry and aria, well they sometimes feel like every other MC out there you know. And sometimes they have these unique flashes. So the story itself wasn't very original IMO but, the way it told was good.
