My Cover... (can't stand that vest)

description

Brysen Carter is overwhelmed by her life. She is working, attending college and holding her crumbing family together. When a stalker posses a threat she finds protection and comfort in the arms of Race Hartman, her best friend Dovie’s heavily connected brother.

”There was something about how effortless he was in both the skins he wore – the one of a stunningly handsome young blue blood, and the one he more typically wore as the ruthless and broken king of the streets.”

Race and Brysen were great together and fell into a relationship and love with ease. I felt like their connection lacked the sparks but still they were a solid couple who conquered well written threats and power plays.

”On the outside she might look like my old life, but on the inside she is completely full of my new life.”

Overall, this was a good read with likable main characters. I did except a bit more things to swoon over but I guess I'm happy that I didn’t have to muddle through relationship woes and got down to business of figuring out what the hell was going on? Who is the stalker? What has Brysen’s father been up to? Who is blowing up buildings and killing people in The Point?

I’m looking forward to Titus’s story and hoping he gets epic!

"She felt right - the perfect match to both sides of me - the bored, rich kid from the Hill and the bookie making the city run with blood and illegal money."

Better When He’s Bold is the second book in Crownover’s Welcome to the Point series. I love this series because the heroes are a little edgy and rough, but they have that sweet side for their girl. I’m a sucker for that type of man.

Race Hartman grew up rich and privileged, but years ago when he took his sister Dovie under his wing, his world changed. Now, it’s more different than ever. Not only is he living in the point- he’s running it. Race is in charge. He’s calling the shots. Race isn’t a bad guy- but he’s not afraid to do bad things if need be.

Brysen Carter has liked Race for a long time. Whats not to like? The man is gorgeous. He’s also her best friends brother and the very last thing on her mind should be a man… she’s got a lot on her plate. And a man like Race, he’s nothing but trouble.

 photo 723b6383-f367-4b5c-abc1-f8538de50137_zpsxomi9dgy.jpg

Even though Race seems like trouble, he’s the only person that seems to be there helping Brysen when she needs it. Dealing with her parents, taking care of her little sister, plus the issue of some creeper following her around and causing problems for her, she’s stressed. And Race is there. He has her back. Brysen has to decide if that’s something she can handle. Can she be with a man like Race?
“I really wanted you to be the worst thing in the world for me, but every time I turn around, you end up being the best thing in my world at any given moment.”

I enjoyed this installment of The Point. I love Jay Crownover’s writing- and she writes the best heroes. Whether they’re tattooed marked men, or bad ass men from the wrong side of the tracks. This series has more suspense, more grit than her other books. And I like it! I can’t wait for Bax’s brother’s book (Titus) and I’m even excited about Nassar’s book! I can’ wait to see who she’ll pair that man up with!

** 3,5-4 “the Bonnie to my Clyde” STARS **

“A tarnished throne for a tarnished king in a tarnished kingdom. Can you handle being a tarnished queen?”

First of all, I REFUSE to accept the ugliest, most hideous covers of all time for this book! I JUST DO NOT! It deserves so much better! I mean that guy is not my type at all, and that's my problem, but c'mon man...WHAT THE FUDGE IS HE WEARING?!

Two years ago, Brysen Carter's life was in multicolor. Always having fun, always cheerful and living like she didn't have a care in the world. Now though, Brysen's world is only surrounded in gray and she has no time to behave like a normal 21-year-old girl living in the “Hill” anymore. She is back at home, taking care of a self-medicating, alcoholic and depressed mother, a workaholic father seemingly unable to leave his studyroom and a little 16-year-old sister, Karsen.

Then there's also that little problem of lusting after her best friend Dovie’s older brother, Race, like Brysen doesn't already have enough problems as it is. Since the first day she saw him, Brysen has been bedazzled by his golden hair, piercing green eyes and that sexy little dimple on his cheek that he flashes every time he grins. And Race wants her. He wants her and he isn't shy about making that very clear at every chance he gets.

“I was just a normal girl with normal needs, but something about this guy made my head go crazy, made my blood go hot and fiery, and I wanted to do things, say things that I had never even thought of before. That was the danger of Race: Always making me want what I COULDN’T and SHOULDN’T have.
~ BRYSEN

The problem is, Brysen doesn't understand and doesn't want to be a part of Race's world. Her life is already hard enough, she doesn't need another complication blurring the waters. So to keep her feelings hidden, Brysen activates her Bitch Mode:ON, acts cold and disinterested and treats Race like he's a piece of trash stuck on the bottom of her shoe, whenever they're in the same room.

Until the age of 16, Race Hartman was one of the spoiled brats of the “Hill”, living inside his own bubble where he had everything he wanted and more than he ever needed. The night Race met Bax, the bad boy raised in the pits of the streets, his life changed forever, and he became a part of the dark and dangerous world of the “Point”. Taking over the empire that belonged to the “King”, Novak, after his death, Race is the new “King” now and he’s the guy calling the shots on the streets. But Race struggles everyday to keep the man he is inside intact, while getting his hands dirty and bloody to prove to everyone he is not just a bored rich kid playing “criminal”.

Then there's also that little problem of lusting after his sister Dovie’s best friend, Brysen, like Race doesn't already have enough problems as it is. Brysen is polished, flawless and perfect, reminding him of the life he left behind up in the “Hill”. The fact that she seems to can’t stand being in the same space as him, challenging him to change her mind, makes Race ache for her even more. But Brysen is a good girl and in Race's world, a world where one mistake is too many, she just wouldn’t survive...

“Being with guys like us… It’s like being in love with a LOADED WEAPON and you’re the SAFETY.”
~ RACE

With a violent, hard and brutal kiss that happens out of nowhere, that spins both their compasses forever, denying the ever-present pull and attraction between them becomes impossible for Race and Brysen. But can the nice girl from the “Hill” and the naughty boy from the “Point” circumvent all the obstacles on their way to happiness?

“I really wanted you to be the WORST thing in the world for me, but every time I turn around, you end up being the BEST thing in my world at any given moment.”
~ BRYSEN

Apart from the extremely obvious “twist”, if we can even call it one, and the rather disappointing bedroom action going on, which didn't even make my breathing get faster by a milisecond, this book was still a steady one. The things I enjoyed the most were the general atmosphere of the “Point” and the supporting characters like Titus, Nassir, Stark and especially Booker. I can't wait to see what all these other hotties have up their sleeves ;)

"I need you to keep me from turning into something I hate, but I can't ask you to give yourself to the streets, to this life, if it's not what you want."

 photo betterwhenhesbold.png

Better When He's Bold is the second book in the Welcome to the Point series. While it is technically a standalone, there is a lot of crossover from the first book so I highly recommend reading that one first.

Brysen is your typical college girl. She goes to school, works, and studies hard. Except for the fact that her home life is falling apart. Her mom is a depressed drunk, her dad appears to be oblivious and Brysen has a sixteen year old sister to take care of. And, it appears Brysen has a stalker.

Race is the King of the Point and former rich boy from the Hill. Collecting bets and loaning money, he's exactly the kind of guy you stay away from. But Race has had an eye on Brysen for some time, and he can see through her ice queen facade.

After a series of circumstances bring the two together, their chemistry is off the charts and the two decide to make a go of things. But can they fit into each others different worlds?

 photo pagebreak.png

The whole premise to the series is the main guys being bad. And yes while they are men who do bad things for a living, I as a reader don't consider them bad guys. Case in point, they don't treat the women they love like shit. For the boys from the point, if they love a girl, family or not they'll do anything not to hurt them. I've read so many books where the main guy isn't "bad" yet I found awful because he treated the main girl horribly. And that's the relief of reading an author like Jay, is that I can trust her not to disappoint me by giving the reader an nonredeemable asshole that all the girls sigh over.

"I'm glad you're not absolutely physically perfect, Race. Trying to handle all the obvious perfection is distracting and hard as it is. Knowing there are parts of you that aren't flawless makes you so much more human."

I loved the development of Race in this book. In the first book he was mostly in the background, talked about but not seen. In this book we get his perspective of events that went down and justifiable reasons for his previous actions. Race may do bad things, but he doesn't murder people and he treats his sister and Brysen well. Plus, he's a hot blonde, what more can a reader want?

Brysen was an interesting character because of how strong she was. She held everything together for her family and worked hard to do it. The stalker plot surrounding her was engaging for me because she wasn't being stalked based on how pretty she was or a dark obsession, it was literally someone wanting to fuck with her life. And that was some scary shit happening to her.

"Life is a mess. I have someone trying to kill me and you're right in the thick of a war on the city. What better conditions could you think of to fall in love?"

My only nit-picky thing about this book was Karsen, the sixteen year old sister. She was way too damn perceptive for someone her age, and any time she opened her mouth I honestly couldn't see her existing in real life. Hopefully she grows up in the series soon because then I would believe the things that came out of her mouth.

I'm crossing my fingers that Booker and Stark get their own books! Hot scarred bodyguard and tattooed computer geek? I can't decide which one I want more!

Brysen is having a tough time. Her family is falling apart (more than usual), she has to care of her younger sister, she has to work, she as to attend college and pass classes. On top of that, she now has a stalker. But is not this “I like you, I want to follow everywhere” stalker. Is a “mess up with your life and screw everything you have” type of stalker.
So she seeks help with Race, the well-connected bad boy from the wrong side of town, the point, and her best-friends brother. Race lives in an f*cked up world of his own, but while helping Brysen they end up doing what neither of them wanted: fall for each other. But maybe that’s exactly what they need.

First let me say one thing about this cover? No. No. No. No.
No!!!
Moving on, if you’re expecting a love full of fireworks and passionate curse words, this is not what you’re looking for. They “settle” pretty early so their relationship becomes more safe than passionate, but they are, still, a very good couple to read about. There’s some action and drama, and the stalker mystery to keep us entertained until the end. There isn’t the best Jay Crowover’s book, but is well written, fast-paced and engaging, so it’s a good choice of reading if you’re in the mood for a ride on the wild side.

Rating: 4 Stars.
Characters Development: What I like in Jay’s books is that the heroines are never whinny little girls. They are strong, sassy and fierce and this one was no exception. So it’s safe to say that I liked Brysen. And what I also always in her books is that the guys, as much assholes or bad-boys they are, they always treat the girls like queens. I’m pretty sure she could write about a serial killer and he still would treat the girl right. So, how not like a hero that is amazing for the girl he loves? It was nice to see more of Dovie and Bax, and I’m pretty anxious for Titus story!

"Welcome to the Point...where this time, fortune favors the bold!"

description

Better when He's Bold is the second book in Welcome to the Point Series. I have been following Jay Crownover's work for several years. My addiction began when I fell in love with her Marked Men Series. When she released the edgy Bax and fun loving spunky Dovie in the first book in the series, Better When He's Bad, I experienced an edgier side of her writing and I LOVED IT! With the gritty and complex characters of the Point, Ms Crownover gives a whole new meaning to edgy characters just trying to survive!

descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription

"What nice girl from the Hill didn't lust after a naughty boy from the Point?"

Brysen is Dovie's best friend. On the outside she looks like she is living the life of perfection. She is beautiful, intelligent, and attending a prestigious college. However, looks can be deceiving. Truthfully, she is struggling through day by day. Her family is falling apart and she feels obligated to keep everything together. However, when a mysterious stalker starts to follow Brysen it doesn't take long for her resolve to begin to crumble and for things to fall apart at the seams!

"It was like there was a force field of badass that surrounded him that only those who liked to live dangerously dared to test."

Race is Dovie's brother and although he comes from the "right side of the track", he now rules as the "King of the Point". He deals with the dirtiest of thugs and lives on the fringe of "what is right" and what is "right enough". He has always had a serious interest in the sophisticated Brysen and when their paths cross at a party the flame to devour her is ignited!

description

"There was something about being desired by a man that you knew could destroy anyone in the room. In shouldn't feel good, shouldn't make my thighs clench and my insides pulse, but it did...he did."

Brysen and Race are cut from the same mold as both come from difficult upbringings. And yet, both have transformed into strong individuals with a drive that doesn't stop. Although their initial connection is physically driven, the emotional connection they have begins to mold the two together....permanently.

"His tongue invaded. His teeth scraped. His hands bruised..."

description

Better When He's Bold is a stunning follow up to Better When He's Bad! It was quite a breath of fresh air to experience Race and Brysen together. They were truly a unique pair because they were so similar in their personalities and temperaments. Told in dual POV, Better when He's Bold had just the right amount of action, suspense, and steam to make this another winning read!

description

In addition to the smooth writing style and driving tempo, the story arc is well developed. In the same style of her Marked Men Series, Welcome to the Point has a significant amount of character crossover. It is remarkable the investment a reader will make in order to experience more of their favorite characters.

descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription

Overall, Better when He's Bold, is not to be missed. The sweet and gritty texture of this read will leave you thinking about it days later!

After reading Better When He’s Bad I couldn’t wait to jump into this one. I love forbidden love and love from the other side of the tracks, but this story is so much more than that!

Race Hartman is a bad boy in every since of the word. While he grew up with wealthy and privilege on The Hill, he traded it all to help Bax. Now he is the king of the bad, leader of the crime ring at The Point. He only truly cares sister his sister, Dovie and his childhood friend Bax. Despite this there is just something about Race that you can help but cheer him on. First, I love a bad boy and he is the ultimate bad boy. Race is also crazy smart, charming and dangerous.

Brysen Carter is barely hanging on, she is attending college and working, not to mention trying to maintain some type of family structure for her sister. She has always been attracted to Race Hartman, but she knows he is the worst thing for her, just another worry and distraction. Regardless of her attraction she is convinced being to together would be a bad idea so she puts up walls to prevent herself from getting hurt. One night at a party they share a hot kiss and there is no telling where things could have gone, if a shooting hadn’t occurred.

As the story progresses Race and Brysen continue to run each other and interact. They’re both obviously attracted to each other, but there isn’t much they can do considering their circumstances and timing. When Brysen begin receiving threatening messages and is attacked everything changes for Race. I loved how the story really picked up from here and left me guessing. I enjoyed how Crownover didn’t try to make Race into a good guy, he isn’t a good guy, he is bad and so damn good at it I wouldn’t want him any other way.

I really loved how Race and Brysen’s relationship played out. I love how he was protective of Brysen and allowed her to rest from the constant strain of caring all the weight in her family. In return she gave him consistency and a safe place to be himself, a place to come home to. I love how they grew together and helped each other. Their connection felt real to me and I loved how they changed and learned how to be together, but didn't change who they are.

This story is about two people who started from the same place, got lost in the middle and came back together for the end…their forever.

This is my first book in the series and it was good! I was looking in the new releases and I found it, I was intrigued because I haven't read a book from this author. Now I think I must read the first book because I liked Bax and Dovie and I want to learn how this two ends up together !
The best parts in this book is Race!Race was so sweet while still trying to be the bad boy!!He was there for Brysen ready to protect her!
My complaints for this book is that the story wasn't something special for me..and the fact is I didn't felt the strong connection between Brysen and Race..I really tried but I can't see how this two ends up to be together...I wanted more passion.Maybe my problem was Brysen. She was an ok character. She didn't indrigued me.
However the writing was really good!!Definitely I'll read the others books in this series and maybe I'll check the other series too!!

This is a great series so far! Book #2 is another journey into The Point, which is basically the extremely bad part of town vs The Hills, which is the ritzy area of town! The heroes in this series are could be considered anti-heroes.... they do not follow the law, and they are not nice guys... Even though they have had to be tough in this hard living place, there is a very small part of them that is reserved for the ones they love. When they find a woman whom they want as their own; they become loyal, possessive; and will do absolutely ANYTHING for them! Whether that be to kill, lie, cheat or steal! Nothing and no one will get in the way, or harm their girl!

Does this sound intense?? Why yes!!!! It totally does! I love my heroes this way! If you like your reads without any rules, then make sure you pick up this series and take a visit to The Point! Take a walk on the wild side!!!!😜

First things first .. WHAT ON EARTH IS UP WITH THAT COVER

NOT FEELING THAT AT ALL. If this was starring in that cover I'm sure it would have been more enticing and a great image while reading!
description
Aside from that cover .. the story was enjoyable! I love me a bad boy and Race .. I didn't think anyone could match up to Bax but then Race came along. I adored Race and Brysen together .. PERFECT match! I loved these two characters, the intensity and chemistry they had was UNDENIABLE and they were bound to act upon it. I would recommend as it is a nail biter and does leave you questioning as to what will happen next! I'm looking FORWARD to the next one and they can't be read as standalones so I would suggest reading from the beginning (YOU WON'T REGRET).

Better When He’s Bold is the second installment in the Welcome to the Point series, a series with lots of moral gray areas. These are truly “bad boys” (with big hearts) who are trying to keep the underbelly of society as “good” as can be by controlling their vices. Like Bax in Better When He’s Bad, Race is a sexy anti-hero. Brysen was helpless to resist his pull, especially when he turns out to be her white dark knight in shining armor.

Brysen has been attracted to her best friend’s brother, Race, for some time. He’s gorgeous with charisma to spare, attracting any female with eyes! Brysen fights this attraction, because her life is complicated enough without adding Race into the mix. He’s involved in shady dealings in the Point, in fact he’s sort of the King in that tarnished kingdom. Brysen may look like she’s from a typical, privileged, upper middle class family, but appearances aren’t what they seem. Behind closed doors her family’s life is a mess. Brysen’s moved back while she works a job and attends college to help provide stability and care to her high school aged sister, Karsen, until she graduates. Her parents are too selfish and involved in their own problems to notice Brysen or Karsen. Brysen keeps her nose to the grindstone until Race’s help and protection become necessary. The more he’s in her life, the more she can’t resist.

Race is taken with Brysen. She’s the first girl who doesn’t just fall at his feet whenever he flirts or tries to charm her. She’s from the privileged side of town, The Hill, but appearances are deceptive. As he gets to know her he admires her selflessness when it comes to those she loves. When it becomes apparent Brysen that she’s in danger from a crazy stalker, Race is determined to keep her safe.

Jay Crownover writes additive, captivating stories, and brings her imperfect characters to life, making you care for them and their problems. Better When He’s Bold was no exception. Even though Race is really not a good guy in the classic sense, we get to see the reasons for his decisions and actions, making it hard not to love him in spite of the sketchy things he’s involved in. I swoon when a guy is concerned about his woman and will make every effort to keep her safe and happy. Race was that guy for Brysen, but it wasn’t just a one way street. Brysen was a reminder of all the good in life, helping him keep his moral compass while dealing with the darker parts of The Point.

While Dovie and Bax’s story continues to be my favorite romance, Race and Brysen’s was compelling and smoking hot, as well! I’m addicted and invested in this series and will gobble up any future stories. I can’t wait to read Titus’ story! He’s Bax’s brother who walks on the right side of the law; a policeman in need of some loving! As a side note, I’d love to have a romance with Karsen and Booker. Sometime would need to pass, obviously, but there’s definitely chemistry a-brewing between those two!

My first ever Jay read was Better When He's Bad. I loved Bax and Dovie so much. Now I'm hooked and I went into Race's story excited and nervously awaiting Jay's reveal.

Privileged Race Hartman walked away from all his wealth on the Hill the day he found out his father put a hit on his half sister. Realizing what the rich would do to hide their mistakes and not risk losing everything, Race turned to The Point. Learning and running the illegal trades, he soon becomes the new King Pin of The Point. Rolling in the gambling, prostitution and other illegal trades, Race knows what The Point offers and he's molding it into everything he can make and gain from it.

Then there's sweet innocent Brysen Carter. A young woman too innocent to be touched by The Point. She's had to give up everything for her family. Leaving behind her college days, Brysen returns home to aid her struggling and downward spiraling family, while trying to raise her sixteen year old sister , maintain a steady job and stay clear of trouble, stay clear of Race Hartman.

Race and Brysen have always had this star struck attraction.

"To keep Race and those traitorous feelings at bay, I was awful to him . . .I mean really, really awful. I was cold. I was disinterested. I was rude, and sometimes I was flat out mean."

Brysen has lusted after Race since forever and Race knows to stay away from the ice-queen that is Brysen Carter. She has always been indifferent to him and acted like he's a villain. Besides, he's never wanted a woman for more than one thing. What can he offer her either way other than a good time. Pain and the uncertainty of The Point?! But his attraction tells him differently and soon one kiss is all it will take to unleash the passion.

"Brysen Carter was a good girl. A pretty blonde from the right side of town, but man, could she kiss like a dirty girl,"

As the plot thickens and danger becomes imminent, we start to see a different side of Race. He protects his own.

“Seems to me that when you add a pretty girl into the mix, that’s when you give a dangerous man something to be dangerous for.”

Race is such a good guy. Even though he has this tough guy persona, and needs to also portray that, he loves those he holds dear. He would do anything to keep them safe. Even if it means drawing blood.

When the troubles of The Point and Brysen's past starts to haunt her, Race and Brysen find themselves struggling to get to the surface. They entrust themselves to each other and hope that it doesn't crush them as they race to the top.

"It isn't always easy. You aren't always easy, but I have yet to regret any of it, Race."

Bax and Dovie will always be my best book so far in this series.I can't wait for Titus's story! Hopefully Jay can give me a new favourite.

RACE AND BRYSEN! Oh, yesss.

2-4-15
I am legitimately upset with how much I didn't love this book. I LOVED Shane and Dovie and I guess just had really high expectations for Race but I felt at times he sort of just fell flat. I was more intrigued by the side story (if you could even really call it that) of the crush Karsen has on Booker than Race and Brysen. Sad, but true.

I will read the next book, love Titus!, and am excited to see how Jay kind of redeems Reeve.

I'm hoping I can understand this series without reading the first book. I find it ridiculous when a library system has part 2&3 but not the first book. So, thankful I was able to understand and love it.

Hoping there will be more on this series about Karsen.

In this book we meet Brysen poor girl her parents checked out. She is left raising her 16yr old sister. While she is growing up herself and trying to succeed. She has always had a crush on Race but knew she had no time for men. Couldn't help not falling for Race either.

Adictiva. Peligrosa. Sexy.

4.5 "Be My Queen" Stars! Loved it! Jay Crownover is a master at building multidimensional characters in a multifaceted world! Like in the real world, the characters in the fictional community of The Point (the stereotypical hood) and The Hill (the upper class suburbs), are neither all good nor bad, but instead lie somewhere in between, constantly straddling societal conventions to define who they truly are. This love story was real, raw and "bold," and had me on the edge of my seat, with my heart in my throat, constantly rooting for the safe haven that only true love can provide!

We commence this book at a pivotal time at The Point. Bax's father, the evil ruling mobster, has been taken down by Race and Bax and new leadership is swarming to take control. Race, greatly aided by his right-hand man Bax, is at the top of that heap, trying to determine how to assume the role as the King of the Point without becoming everything they fought to take down.

Race, however, is a smart man, and a bold one at that, and is quick to come to terms with the reality that there will always be bad in places like the Point, but as it's ruler he can make sure that the badness doesn't spiral out of control. So he makes alliances, and has to do things, that threaten his very nature. Can he manage to save The Point without selling his soul to the devil?

Into this chaotic world, enters Brysen, Race's sister's best friend. Brysen really doesn't fit in either The Point or The Hill. Symbolically raised right at the bottom of The Hill, where The Hill meets The Point, she straddles both worlds, but is accepted by neither. Not a good place to be, but she seems to handle it as best she can, and is even the anchor that tries to keep her family together, until her parents' action combine to lead them into danger that she can no longer handle.

Race steps right in, and decides to take on Brysen's plight as her own self-appointed protector. Soon the sparks start to fly, but can there possibly be a future for two people who live in such different parts of the societal strata? Once the dust settles, will their chemistry be enough to overcome society's prejudices and stereotypes?

Race is another yummy alpha hero. I loved his fierce determination to protect what he considers his own. There were also some hot, passionate scenes and the romance and suspense were both well developed.

All in all, Ms. Crownover has produced another hit! I love Ms. Crownover's characters and how they struggle with very real societal issues and pressures. Although Ms. Crownover's heroes in Welcome to the Point seem hard and dangerous on the outside, they nonetheless always in the end find the sole remaining soft spots in their hearts for the women they can't help but love. The next story should be an interesting change of pace, as the hero will be Bax's brother, Titus, a police officer. So for the first time, we will get to see how Ms. Crownover handles the societal pressures from the other side of the law, a good guy struggling with when a little bad is actually good for the world. I can't wait to read Titus' story in Better When He's Brave scheduled to be released in August.

Better When He’s Bold is the sequel to Jay Crownover’s Better When He’s Bad and what a smouldering, sexy and BOLD read it is!

Race Hartman betrayed his best friend in order to save his sister Dovie and that’s something he has to live with for the rest of his life. Now he’s trying to create some order in The Point and has taken on a business partner to help him. Race knows he can’t change The Point but he will do his best to make the damage minimal, especially now he’s in charge.

Brysen Carter might appear to be the girl from the right tracks but pretending isn’t always what it seems and Brysen seems to do a lot of that lately. Especially when her home life keeps dragging her down and it’s only going to get worse.

When Brysen starts receiving threatening text messages and someone tries to run her over in the parking lot outside of her work, there’s only one person she can turn to and that’s her best friends brother – Race, whom she’s determined to not get attached to because she knows she’ll only get hurt, especially with his role within the Point. But soon, Brysen and Race start to depend on each other much than they’d both like but there is much more going on that they know about and soon both of them are in danger…….

Hello Race Hartman! I loved Better When He’s Bad and so I went into Better When He’s Bold with high expectations and Jay Crownover met them all. Seriously, this woman is a writing machine and definitely knows how to produce an awesome book that leaves you wanting more and more. Seriously, I want more. Better When He’s Bold is just as edgy, dangerous, exciting, riveting and addictive as Better When He’s Better Bad and I enjoyed this instalment just as much as the first. Race and Brysen has a completely different story than Bax and Dovie and it was really refreshing going into their story and not knowing what to expect. Race is one bold guy. Not only that, he’s super smart and I loved that he was different. He’s a good guy with just a touch of bad in him and everything he’s doing; he’s trying to make a better place out of The Point even though he won’t be able to make it a lovely place to live. He’s trying to make it bearable for people and not so dangerous.

Brysen brings her own set of problems to the story and once again, it was refreshing to read about her story and find out how it’s fits into Race’s world. Brysen’s father – grrrr! What a douche! And her Mother was no better either. But I enjoyed the plot of their story and the end results were nerve-racking but exciting to read about.

What else I loved about the story and the series so far is the secondary characters. Bax’s brother Titus is a great addition to the series but I’m starting to believe that maybe Nassir – Race’s new business partner may be one to watch out for too. And then we also have Brysen’s sister Karsen. A potential story may be brewing there too.

In all, Welcome to the Point has proved to be another addictive and smokin’ hot series by Jay Crownover and I’m seriously left wanting more, so thank god there’s more to come with Titus’s book - Better When He's Brave. Yay!

Thank you to Harper 360 for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 Race bold stars

Ah, I was afraid that the history would repeat itself again, cause so far , it happened every time i've started some series, if I got overwhelmed with book 1 and its characters, usually the book 2 didn't live up to my expectations...cause of the high level of expectancy that the first book set as a starting point...

And after that I'm always screwed and a bit dissapointed.

Well, in this case I'm FAR from dissapointment but after meeting Shane Baxter aka Bax in book 1, well, I did my best to be open for Race in book2 and I was...but fuck, Shane ruined me for the rest of them...LOL

Anyway, this story is rated with 4 stars, simply because at first I didn't „feel“ the pull between MCs – Race and Brysen.

BUT luckily that changed as the story progressed.

Anyway, Jay writes like a pro, duh?! She brings the story filled with drama, action, sex, love, angst, crime...pih, you name it...and it all works put together in a mash up of strong charaters that interact in deep, meaningful dialogues...and Jay, you do write phenomenal sex scenes!

Race Hartman is the smart and wavy blonde hair with green eyes kinda gorgeous and badass criminal! He took over the crime milleu after the old gangster of Point city was „erased“ in book 1....he's good with numbers and some other things too...(*wink, wink*) but the crime scene of Point just might be to much to handle at once...

„You think you're going to single-handedly pull the Point out of the fire, Race?“

„No. But I do think I can control the burn, Bax, and that's all I really want to do.“

And I pictured Race like this

„...I'm not a bad guy, Brysen, but I'm not a good guy either.
I'm just enough of both...“

and there's Brysen Carter,

this cold and standoff-ish blonde bombshell sent to Earth to be the death of men...LOL
on the outside she's just as I described her but on the inside she's more then meets the eye...she's determined and devoted, caring and thoughtful and had put her own life on hold and molded it to the false routine of her disfunctional family ( from the Hill a part where rich people live BUT that only for the show), so she could be a support to her teen sister.

She and Race have known each other through Dovie, who is Brysen's best friend, but Brysen always puts this cold armour of defence when near Race just so she can hide her own attraction to him and of course, her defiance and cold posture only sets Race off and he takes her as a challenge he needs to conquor. She's not used to his kind of life, although Race does come from richness too, but he chose his way of life as it is now, and she has a hard time dealing with the things Race does...

„I'm not from the streets, Race. Your life scares the hell out of me.“

„I know it does, but you're here anyway and that's why I want you in the mix. You make all the ugly things a little less nasty to look at, and really...your life is just as scary as mine at the moment.“

„She was the balance I so desperately needed.“

At first he thinks that it's all he wants but that changes gradually and when Brysen casts away her cold shield and gives in to this Greek blonde God of crime, there are enough sparks to set the world on fire!!!

The mere attraction soon becomes so much more BUT then danger appears as the beaming monster threatning them both but putting Brysen's life at stake...

„Race will tear apart anything and anyone he thinks is a threat to you, so you need to handle him carefully. Being with guys like us... It's like being in love with a loaded weapon and you're the safety.“

„Don't let me go.“
...I bent down to kiss her and told her against her trembling mouth, „Never.“

...and Race is trying to fight with every aspect of danger trying to protect her...the very few people he cares about and considers his family...and the business going rapidly to flames...

I loved that Bax and Dovie and Titus reappeared here as well, they had crucial roles in story development and it wouldn't be the same level of intensity without them...

I'm soooo looking forward to Titus's story.

BETTER WHEN HE’s BOLD by Jay Crownover

Better When He’s Bold is the 2nd book in the Welcome to the Point series and I thought I loved a Bad Boy when I first met Bax in Better When’s He’s Bad but what I did not know was that Race would have Bax move over to share the thrown of badness. I was super excited to get my hands on Race’s story. Race has the good-looks of a God and just is always teetering on that very thin, thin line between right and wrong. Race earns his King status of the Point by being determined to do whatever it takes to take care of his, and the Point is exactly that, his.

Race was once just another spoiled rich kid, but when his life is thrown into a tail spin by someone that he thought he could trust, Race has to look inward and find his own truth, his sense of right and wrong, and find his own way, where he feels the most of everything, The Point. Race becomes the King of the Point, not for greed or power but to keep the balance and not allow evil to take over. In a constant internal battle between the light and the dark within himself, Race finds his small personal salvation in the only girl he craves, Brysen.

Brysen however, only sees Race as another problem in her stream of bad luck. Byrsen is taking care of everyone and she does not need to worry about not one more person. Responsibility is the only thing on her mind but her body has other plans. Brysen cannot think with her head when Race is around and she is scared of all the heartache and trouble that Race will sure to bring. Her icy façade works on everyone around her except Race. He sees right through her to the real beauty inside. However, it goes both ways, Brysen sees the goodness that is just right under the surface in Race. Race is the only person that might be able to keep her safe from the danger that her and her family faces. Brysen is fierce. She has so many layers that only Race can peel away. The relationship between Race and Brysen is totally straight forward and honest and organic.

Better When He’s Bold is full of suspense, mystery, fights and all the ugliness the Point can bring but mixed with the beauty of a character driven plot that Jay Crownover is known to write. The Point is a place that comes alive between the cover of Better When He’s Bold and once there, one will never want to leave.

Better When He’s Bold by Jay Crownover receives 5 stars.

I have to admit that I didn't know what to expect from this story. I was anxiously awaiting this one but I wasn't in love with the first one so I was debating whether or not I really wanted to read it.

But it was so much better than I was expecting.

Brysen Carter is friends with Dovie, Race Hartman's half-sister. Her family is falling apart and she is struggling to keep everything going until her sister is old enough to go to college. She works in as a waitress and tries to keep up her car payments, food, etc. in order to get by. This is an admirable effort. She is attempting to keep her family together by any means necessary. The issue I couldn't get over is how she wants to accept Race on her terms. She doesn't want to accept him as he is; she only accepts certain parts of him and not others. I really hated this aspect of her character.

Race Hartman is the new "it man" in the Point. He takes control of the Point and attempts to control the downward spiral the community is headed towards. He is, at times, portrayed as a complete alpha male, macho man then he has moments where he comes across as incredibly insecure and vulnerable. This dichotomy in character may work well for some readers but this reader just thought there was too big a difference in these two aspects of his character that he came across as disjointed.

The plot itself is original and engaging. I particularly love the author's voice. She pulls you in and refuses to let go. The mysterious "bad guy" is pretty predictable but everything else was very entertaining. Overall, I would recommend this book.

Better When He's Bold is an exciting, explosive series. I'm intrigued with the thickness of the storyline and plot. There is so much insight and depth to the characters that I just love them and would recommend the series to anyone whose turned on by badass domineering alpha's. I'm super stoked for Better When He's Brave (Titus King's story) to come out. So you're probably wondering why four stars instead of five, well for two reasons.

1. Race Hartman: He's not just another run of the mills bad guy or criminal, Race is the head taco, the ultimate badass. So why didn't he act like one? Sure he got into a few fights, but nothing about his character lead me to believe he was dangerous, a man not to cross. He didn't carry a gun and he didn't instill fear at least he didn't with me. I thought he was boring, more of a follower and not a leader. He didn't throw his weight around or display any power, he wasn't intimidating.

2. As mentioned in my status update the author did a superb job building up the ummmmm romance scenes. At the anticipated moment, where your heart is banging around in your chest and you're saying this is it, fireworks and ka-boom; she glosses over making the sexual scene discrete and it loses intensity. Don't get me wrong it was good and I liked it, but was disappointed.

3.5 stelline
Ora voglio Titus!
Presto!
