I’ve always known vampires were the enemy. For years, I’ve hidden in the shadows, hoping they forget I exist. Then the bloodsuckers did the unthinkable—they stole my sister.
Now I’ve tracked the monsters down to a little New York town, determined to get her back. But when my rescue mission goes terribly wrong, I'm forced to make an impossible choice.
Perish, or become one of the immortal creatures I despise.
When a desperate choice takes a devastating turn, I wake up transformed, starving, and at the mercy of two dangerously seductive males—Blake Marten and Riordan Graves.
Blake gives me the most memorable night of my life, then throws me away, leaving me wanting more.
Riordan offers me a deal. Drink, survive, and get my revenge on the creature holding my sister hostage.
We all crave vengeance, and I’ll have mine, hopefully before I lose my soul—and my heart—to my merciless captors. But as the line between hate and love blurs, I’m left wondering if I’ll ever escape this cage of darkness they’ve woven around me.
Fueled by black coffee, ice cream and bad nineties music, L.A. McGinnis spends her days writing best-selling steamy fantasies filled with damaged heroes who long to be whole and smart, authentic heroines. A life-long fascination with storytelling inspired her to weave these contemporary tales of legendary fated mates where the princess never needs rescuing, but sometimes the hero does.
Because I am hooked, addicted, obsessed, and quite possibly possessed! I thought I was in a fantasy slump, but it turns out I was just in an epic fantasy slump. This paranormal fantasy gave me everything I needed—dark, dirty, seductive, depraved, violent and vicious... and yet it captivates you in a way that feels almost illegal
𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨: Evangeline Silverwood is on a mission to find her sister, who was taken by vampires one day and never heard from again. Following breadcrumbs to a small town, she takes a job as a bartender and sometimes “fighter” in illegal matches at the bar where she works, trading wins for information on her sister’s whereabouts. She finally discovers where her sister is being held and hatches a harebrained scheme to rescue her, but that means breaking into enemy vampire territory and surviving. The plan goes horribly wrong, and Evangeline is forced to become the very monster she was trained her entire childhood to kill. To make matters worse, she finds herself tied to two vampires who are basically sex on legs, Blake Marten and Riordan Graves and right in the middle of a vampire political war that is only getting started.
𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨: Evie is a fierce, badass spitfire who is so determined, committed and on a mission to find her sister, that she’ll stop at nothing until she achieves it. She is smart (and not just intellectual) but has a sense of "street smarts" that make her lethal. She uses every scrap of her wit and skill to get answers.
Then you meet these two boys, and from their first appearance on-page, it’s impossible not to fall in love with them. Their appeal is this amalgamation of taking Spike from Buffy and mixing him with the allure of Damon Salvatore. What you get is this perfect blend of all your favourite charismatic, morally ambiguous heartthrobs with the ability to seduce with just a smirk that bring a whole bunch of “holy hell, get me a fan to cool down” vibes. Their chemistry with Evie is off the charts, and their push-and-pull dynamic brings with it the kind of tension that has you practically licking your lips every time they face off or team up. Not to mention that their inevitable bond will leave you squealing and kicking your feet in delight when things get spicy.
Rohr is the new King of Vampires but is powerless in the chess game he is playing against Tyrell. He is duty-bound to his people and Kingdom and will do anything to save it from tyranny. He does not want the complication of Evie and what she means and especially does not want the complication of falling for her.
Blake... OMG THAT MAN... A walking dichotomy of emotions. He is passionate and OH SO PROTECTIVE... He cannot stand what Evie stands for and what she represents but he cannot help but be drawn to her pull. I don't want to spoil too much about their relationship BUT MY GOD... THIS MAN and their ENEMIES TO LOVERS transition was PERFECTION!
I finished this book a while ago and I can't stop thinking about it! There is this unholy synergy in the writing style and characters. The pace is fast, exhilarating and unapologetic, sweeping you away on a raw, vampire rollercoaster. Even though the prose is often violent, it’s also strangely beautiful, and every time I tried to put it down, I found myself clutching my Kindle just a bit tighter to stop myself so I could just keep reading.

✨ A scorching, steamy, and sultry tale of vampires and irresistible bloodlust that will ignite your imagination and take you beyond your wildest fantasies! ✨
Behind every twist of fate, the story centers on Evangeline Silverwood, or Evie, as she tries to save her sister, who was kidnapped by vampires in the comfort of their home. Evie has been killing every vampire she encounters as she ventures forth to find her lost sister. Evie was the paragon of fearless, selfless, stubborn, and, most of all, a loving older sister to Angel. She was the older sister you can always count on. She has the traits of a sister I've always wanted to have. She will do anything and everything, even beyond her power, to save and protect her family. And then she meets Riordan Graves—the powerless King of the Vampires. Riordan, also known as Rohr, will do anything to save his kingdom and defeat Tyrell. But as he fights his way to defeat the gang of the oldest and most ancient vampires, he finds himself slowly falling in love with Evie.
Meanwhile, here comes another handsome vampire—Blake Marten. Waaaah! This guy is just... OMG! Urghhh! I just can't get enough of Blake. I'm having second lead syndrome again with him. Blake is just the embodiment of a knight in shining armor. I love his protectiveness over Evie and Rohr. He is selfless and has a soft heart. Evie and Blake's chemistry simply overflowed from the very first time they met.
Fated In Blood by L.A. McGinnis is a captivating blend of fantasy, romance, supernatural elements, and vampires. L.A. has crafted a truly mesmerizing enemies-to-lovers story, and her vivid descriptions of the characters made me feel like I was right there with them. In fact, I didn't even want to put it down. I truly loved the way she described Evie, Blake, Tyrell, and Rohr's characters. If you are looking for a scorching and steamy vampire romance to read, I highly recommend this!

Overall Rating: 4.75/5 ⭐️ Spice Rating: 2/5 🌶️
My first L.A. McGinnis book and I adored it! As a steamy, fast-paced vampire why choose romance that tends to lean into darker themes now and then (and honestly some female rage), McGinnis outdid herself with this book!
I’m a sucker for vampire romances (and maybe a stickler since I’ve been a fan of them for ages) and when I tell you this is one of my new favorite vampire romances, I mean it!
I was hooked from the very beginning until the end - this book was all I thought about. The tension, the chemistry, and everything were so good and so well written - everything was so easy for me to play out in my head even the world-building, action scenes, and character arc/growth/depth development that tends to come with more of the fantastical books were on the easier side of following! I can’t wait to see what comes next & read the next books in the series (even though that cliffhanger was CRIMINAL, Evie, Blake, and Rohr are worth it)
I honestly don’t have any more words to do it justice to how much I loved this book! Fated in Blood was a super action-packed, steamy, and overall super good and enjoyable plot about vampires & revenge & romance that vampire romance fans should read!
What to expect in Fated in Blood: 🩸 morally grey main characters 🩸 forced proximity 🩸 enemies to lovers 🩸 vampire(s) king x vampire slayer 🩸 hot villain 🩸 touch her and d!e 🩸 groveling for days 🩸 all the steam & sexual tension 🩸 shadow daddy 🩸 secret bargains 🩸 revenge pact 🩸 MFM / why choose <3
I received an ARC copy of Fated in Blood and all thoughts & comments on this review are my own!
I enjoyed this read! I loved Evangeline, except when she forgave people a *little* too quickly for my personal taste. I liked Riordan and Blake, and loved the story. My only complaint (aside from my personal preference bitches, but that’s not the authors fault) is the ending happened too quickly. I wished we would’ve worked up to it a little more or took a little longer to get there.
i loved loved loved evie so much! full of sass, snark, and stabby vibes 🤭 i’m a sucker (HAAAA get it?) for a good vampire book, but this one was just sooo easy to get into and had me kicking my feet and giggling over the smallest things. i loved the guy characters too and im very interest in malachis character and to see how what happens with him in book two 👀 this was extremely fast paced, easy to follow, and spicy 🥵 who doesn’t love a good feeding scene? 😏
Evangeline Silverwood is searching for her sister after she was abducted by vampires. Evie has tracked her down to a small town in New York called Thorndale; a vampire invested college town. After becoming a waitress at a bar/neutral underground fight club and getting intel on where her sister, Angel, is being kept, she devises a plan to infiltrate the hulking mausoleum of a house on the edge of Thorndale, Darkmore Castle. She does this during a blood slave auction event where hundreds of vampires will be attending. But what she discovers inside Darkmore leaves her in turmoil and alters her life as she knows it. —————————————————————————————— Review:
Wow! I was on the edge of my seat while reading Fated in Blood! Absolutely love the twist on this vampire slayer / vampire romance! Throughout the whole book I believed I had the ending figured out but WHAT. L.A McGinnis really knows how to man handle a plot twist AND a cliffhanger! Towards the ending there was so much I did not see coming and I was living for it!! Action packed and spicy, Fated in Blood is EVERYTHING one would want in a vampire romance!
I absolutely loved Evangeline and her sense of humor, she was such a strong willed and kickass FMC! Blake and Riordan are such yummy MMCs.. and I am obsessed over Malachi (I can’t wait to get into him more in book 2)!
“And with that scornful grin… yeah, Chad-the-douche-canoe figured this fight was already a done deal.”
“But the smells… cloying perfume and sour vomit, cigarette smoke and vape pens, and the bane of all aromas, Axe body spray.”
The spice was haaawwwtttt. To me, Fated in Blood read more like a why choose instead of a reverse harem but that could be because there are still events waiting to be unfolded as the series continues. Regardless the spice was still spicy!!
The plot was not predictable like many vampire romances; which I absolutely loved. As I said, McGinnis has a unique talent for leading you down a path and then obliterating it to keep you guessing! The pace to me was medium-fast and didn’t drag at any parts. No prolonged description or world building which was refreshing, especially with how many moving pieces this plot was working with!
Overall, I absolutely LOVED Fated in Blood. I rate this 5⭐️ and 4🌶️. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the Nocturne Clan in book 2!
What to expect: 🩸Touch her and 💀 🖤 morally grey MMCs 🩸 jealous/possessive MMCs 🖤 MFM/why choose 🩸vampire king / vampire slayer 🖤 magic 🩸 SPICE & steamy tension 🖤 ancient 🩸 debts 🩸 HOT mysterious antihero 🖤 SHADOW DADDY 🩸 groveling
—————————————————————————————— I was honored to be selected as a ARC reader for “Fated in Blood” by L.A McGinnis. I received a ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
It was the cover which first got my attention after I read the blurb I was sure I would like this book. But it was not what happened. I found this paranormal book very boring. I really missed being surprised by the plot. It was very predictable and saw nearly every twist coming.
I didn't care for Evangeline. I found her very negative and some of her actions I didn't really see why she would make. Then we have the why choose between Blake and Riordan which came quit out of the blue. One minute she was angry and hating them the next she finds the attractive and want to have s'x with them. And the same could be said about Blake and Riordan, they also went from not wanting anything to do with her to being in love with her and want to protect from anything. It just doesn't make sens.
I will say that the system about how vampire magic function and is made is very well done and described and shown in this book. And was one of the only things I really liked about this book.
Thank you to L.A. McGinnis and BookSirens for the opportunity to read this ARC! I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
🖤🌹🖤🌹🖤🌹🖤 That right there was the problem with vampires. They lived forever, but they never matured. So basically, I was dealing with two bloodsucking twelve-year-olds. 🩸🩸🩸🩸
This is my first L.A. Mcginnis book and I am obsessed! It was so action packed, page-turning, plots and twists around every corner. I am a sucker for RH and it was delivered so well, I cannot wait for the next story!
If you like RH, enemies to lovers, unhinged MC's - this is your book!
Evangeline is your strong FMC that does not take s*** from anyone and does what she thinks is best, but I have a feeling things will change her and for her in the next books.
I love Blake! His love is so pure, I want him to have his mate and finally be happy.
Riorhdan is a wild card and I have a feeling the lovers will turn to enemies pretty quickly, but he has his reasons. I just hope they are justified, cause he will turn dark.
Malachi - give me that brooding, wild Viking! I did not expect his part in the story and I don't know if I am rooting for him or if he's the villain in disguise! "Villain gets the girl" was always my soft spot!
This book is so good, that I feel like falling down the vampire RH rabbit hole! Enjoy!

Evangeline Silverwood tracked her missing sister (Angel) down in the small college town, Thorndale, after she was kidnapped by vampires. She is undercover, working at an underground fight club to find Angel when she infiltrated Darkmore Castle, and that’s when her world changed. Evangeline is a strong heroine who I could root for. Her men (Blake, Malachi, and Riordan) were equally well written.
Fate in Blood is a why choose, PNR spicy romance that is action packed. The pacing was good for the plot, and I enjoyed how she built the world. I would absolutely reread this book when it comes to audiobook. Be aware, there is a cliffhanger.
Thank you to L.A. McGinnis for an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Dark, deadly, and damning! I loved this dark fantasy vampire romance. It had a lot of thrilling twist and turns and high stakes the whole way through.
Evie was a total stabby female who was skilled and fierce. I enjoyed her and loved her determination and tenacity to never give up.
Blake was a haunted warrior shadow daddy! I loved him and can’t wait to read more about it.
Riordan was a powerful morally grey MMC. I enjoyed him as well. There’s still a lot I feel like I don’t know yet about it and I look forward to learning more.
The story was full of twists and thrills that made it hard to put down from the start. I look forward to reading the next one.
Lots of yummy tropes in this one like; enemies to lovers, vampire/slayer, morally grey all around, stabby slayer FMC, shadow daddy, why choose romance, fated mates, steam, protective possessive MMCs, tragic past, touch him/her and xx vibes and more!
Fast paced, bloody intrigue keeps you on your toes as you try to figure out each twisted motive in this contemporary vampire novel. This book to me does not fall under traditional romance guidelines, but based on the other series I've read from L.A. McGinnis I'm certain that relationships and romance will develop.
Evie sets out to rescue her sister but finds herself embroiled in blood feuds and centuries old revenge plots. Riordan and Blake make her question everything she thought she knew about vampires and Malachi brings out a whole new level of chaos to the ongoing nightmare they all want to escape.
This ends on a cliffhanger but not that bad of one. So much is still in the air and needs to be resolved.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Evie is a fierce and badass vampire slayer who’s stuck between hating what she’s becoming and trying to save what’s left of her humanity. When the bloodsuckers take her sister, she’s forced to make an impossible choice. But when she wakes up, turned into vampire, she struggles.
Enter Blake and Riordan—two dangerously seductive immortals who will have you questioning your loyalty as they play their twisted games of desire and vengeance. The tension and angst between these three were so perfectly done. Kept me on edge the whole time. Every time Evie had to drink from them...hotttt.
A high-stakes plot, sizzling tension, and a heroine who’s as sharp as she is fierce make this book impossible to put down. And of course, it ended with a cliffhanger, so I need the next book now!!!
This is the first book that I have read by L.A. McGinnis.
Evangeline knows what her family is and what she was raised to do. She will do anything to save her sister or so she thinks. So she plots to get close to those who have her sister but things don’t go as planned.
What happens what Evangeline wakes up with Blake and Riordan? Will she perish or become one of the creatures that she despises? I understood why Blake freaked out the way that he did, but it took me a while to figure Riordan out.
I love a good paranormal story, plus add on why choose, and then throw in the element of surprise. This book gave you a little of everything and left you with a cliffhanger of what the next book will bring.
I was given the opportunity to read this as an ARC reader. Here is my honest review. I am speechless right now. I just got done reading this book and I am already scanning the author’s works looking for the next book! This is a riveting story that will have many of your emotions stirred up. I struggled putting this book down! I was hooked from the first chapter! The stories of the characters made me feel like I was right there with them. I would give this book a 10 out of a 10 for plot, world building, romance, storyline, and spice!
Soul-gripping, all-consuming,addictive and scorching hot !
A brilliantly woven tale that left me breathless and so on the edge that all around me everything fade away. The perfect world building, the care with details and descriptions, the way she paints vivid images in my mind are absolutely outstanding! The plot is detailed and complex with intrigue and betrayal, angst and passion, and the promisse of much more to come! And the characters with their explosive chemistry provoke a whirlwind of emotions from love to hate and all in between. And this is why LA McGinnis is in my top best writters, when I think I will not be surprised she does this and blows my mind again!
This book absolutely possessed me. I devoured it overnight, who needs sleep? I will immediately be jumping into the next one. The FMC is everything, we love a stabby badass (it’s bery much giving Diana from Book of Az). The love triangle is peak tension and had me fully feral the entire time. Impossible to put down.
Thank you to L.A. McGinnis for making me part of her ARC team and bestowing upon me an advanced copy of Fated in Blood!
Fated in Blood release date - 1/27/25
What. An. Amazing. Read!! I pride myself on loving all things paranormal romance/thriller, and this one had me utterly enthralled! Evangeline Silverwood is such a spectacular character! We are introduced to her while she hunts for the monsters who took her sister. She will not stop until she finds her and rescues her, if she can. I knew we were going to be in vampire land, but I was not expecting the instant fire ignited between Evie and, not one, but TWO insanely hot vampires. Blake is so honorable and all-warrior! And Rohr… yikes! He had me contemplating volunteering as tribute. The constant struggle Evie must face after being forced into immortality is sad, but also fuels her quest to rescue her sister, whose plight turns even more deadly when she is mated to a sadistic, power Ancient, Laurent Tyrell. It gets doubly deadly when her vampire-hunter family - the one Evie has been hiding from for over a decade - resurfaces and wants to taker her down, too. And Malachi … what a wild card he turns out to be. You can tell he’s never really on anyone’s side but his own, so you don’t really know whether he’s aligned with Evie or not. Also … I loved the spicy scenes! They’re sexy, intimate, and intense!! Tremendous mix, and fit well into the story. I was hoping for a little bit of a throuple arc, but I’ll hold out hope that comes later on in the series! Im hooked, and I can’t wait to read more!
I received an ARC copy of Fated in Blood and all comments and opinions given are of my own creation. I received an ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have read SO many books that start with the FMC in a boxing ring kicking some guy's butt. yawn. Typical boring badass FMC that knows how to defeat extremely powerful vampires for the sake of revenge and family.
I seriously tried but I hate Blake so I am going to have to DNF at 41%. They are just awful and she keeps caving because of BBS. Can't enjoy a book when I don't like either of the MMCs or the weakness of the FMC.
"You're a beautiful woman. I'm not opposed to fucking you. But don't think this is anything but a business arrangement. You're here because you're a tool. Nothing more. Don't convince yourself otherwise."
All Evie wants to do is keep her promise to her mother and keep her safe. But she is kidnapped by vampires and now Evie has to get her back. This is my first time reading this author and I wasn't disappointed. I liked Evie and how she can handle herself but she gets one thing after the other thrown at her I am surprised she hasn't given up yet. I could do without the males in this story. I swear everyone has a hidden agenda that involves using Evie in some form or another. Blake has some redeeming qualities but he still treats her badly just because of something she doesn't have control over. I enjoyed the ending because that needed to be done. I hope that in book 2 something happens to Silas for what he has done. Great read.
Fated In Blood: Nocturne Vampire Clan 1 by L.A. McGinnis is a thrilling dive into a world of vampires, complex vampire politics, and a captivating forbidden romance. This first installment immediately grabbed my attention and didn't let go.
As a new reader to McGinnis, I was so hooked that I devoured the entire Shadowsend Clan series within this interconnected world before writing this review, confirming that her storytelling and world-building are consistently gripping. McGinnis has crafted a rich and intriguing supernatural world with unique lore and power dynamics that I'm eager to explore further.
*****minor spoilers
What I Loved:
Strong and Intriguing Characters: Evangeline is a compelling heroine. Driven to rescue her sister, she's captured and turned by the vampire king. Promising to help them overthrow their sire for her freedom, Evangeline finds her loyalties tested as her family history and a lineage of slayers complicate matters. It's clear there's always a bigger threat lurking, and I'm excited to see who fills the power vacuum.
A Fresh Take on Vampires: McGinnis offers a fresh perspective on vampires, giving them distinct characteristics and motivations. The Nocturne Clan is more than just bloodthirsty; they have a complex society and history that unfolds beautifully throughout the book and the interconnected world.
A Slow-Burn Romance: The romantic tension is palpable. The forbidden nature of the relationships adds an extra layer of excitement. With one man as her mate and another vying for her affection, the romantic possibilities are tantalizing. In true McGinnis style, a new contender is introduced in the epilogue, promising a compelling slow-burn romance.
Fast-Paced and Engaging Plot: The story moves at a brisk pace, keeping you hooked from beginning to end. The well-balanced mix of action, romance, and world-building ensures you're never bored. I was completely immersed and read it in one sitting.
Intriguing World-Building: The world-building is well-developed and immersive. However, after reading the Shadowsend Clan series, I noticed some potential continuity issues regarding the specifics of killing vampires. The details surrounding Tyrell's supposed unkillability versus the methods used to kill Originals in Shadowsend could benefit from further clarification. It's possible this is intentional ambiguity, mirroring the limited information available to the characters, but I hope future installments provide more clarity. Otherwise, McGinnis skillfully weaves together elements of mythology and urban fantasy, creating a world that feels both familiar and unique.
Things to Consider:
Cliffhanger: Be prepared for a cliffhanger! This first book leaves the story unresolved, but the ending only fueled my anticipation for the next installment. So much so that I immediately dove into her other "finished" series within this world. I highly recommend checking out Shadowsend Clan while you wait – it's a fantastic friends-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers slow-burn set in the same universe. Book one was so good, I read it twice!
"Oh my God, I was totally going to get myself killed. Death by lack of impulse control. What a way to go."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶.5
What you'll find in this book: - Dark Romantasy - Reverse Harem - Emotional Scars - Slayers and Vampires - Emotional Scars - Medium Burn - All the Grovelling - Dark Themes - Enemies to Lovers
If you're looking for a new paranormal romance series, stuffed full of all the good stuff, and I'm talking handsome vampires, with an element of why choose, all rolled up into a dark romantasy then this series is perfect for you. This series does reverse harem in what I would call the best possible way, with this being a key feature but not the whole story. There is still an incredibly strong and compelling story behind the wants and needs of the characters, that had me racing through this book in a single day and I enjoyed every last drop of this juicy story that L.A. McGinnis was wonderful enough to give us.
We start our story in the sinister underbelly of Thorndale where we meet Evie, who is doing literally anything within her power to find information on the whereabouts of her missing sister. When a lead comes through, she sets off to meet the problem head on, this problem being an ancient vampire with illegal dealings selling off human slaves from his mansion within the town. However, her plans don't go the way she's hoping, and with a desperate decision forced to be taken, she ends up being turned into the very being she's been trained to kill. Transformed and hungry, she must work to adjust to her new life and the hand she has been dealt all while dealing with her maker and his best friend - Riordan and Blake and the complicated feelings that begin to emerge. When her true identity is revealed, things go from complicates to chaotic, but with vengeance on everyone's mind, Riordan makes Evie a deal she can't refuse. Be his blade and free her sister, but will she survive everything and these two males to see it through.
The characters in this story make it absolutely spectacular, L.A. McGinnis has created characters with such depth and diversity that it's impossible not to hang on their every conversation and every action. Evie is such a complicated character with a deep backstory, and reading as she finds her footing in her new life after being turned provides an insight that makes for a truly gripping story. Just when you think you've begun to grasp her essence and her character, she flips the table on everything you know. Being treated to not only Evie's internal thought process but others as well with multiple POV's in place provides us different perspectives of situations that elevates the story even further. Riordan and Blake and perfectly balanced to provide different elements to the story. They each have a unique relationship with Evie, and it is wonderful to read as this develops over the course of the story.
The book itself is chunky, but everything felt required to tell this amazing story, with not a single second wasted. Relationships are constantly being developed, interactions always in play and events occurring one after the other. High octane and fast paced is the best way I could describe this book, I could not tear my eyes away for a second for fear I'd miss the next big reveal or bit of information being uncovered. Every part of the story flowed beautifully from one part to another, and it was so easy to be swept up and carried along. The worldbuilding was fabulous, intricate yet easy to keep up with, and leaving so much room for more. That ending was absolute perfection, and after that epilogue, I can not wait to read more!
L.A. McGinnis’s Fated In Blood dives into the dark and seductive world of vampires with a riveting tale of survival, betrayal, and forbidden desires. This novel masterfully blends elements of paranormal romance and action, delivering a story that is as intense as it is emotionally charged.
The protagonist's journey is compelling and fraught with inner conflict. Her life, once spent lurking in the shadows to avoid the attention of vampires, takes a dramatic turn when she is forced to become the very creature she loathes to save her sister. McGinnis portrays this transformation and the ensuing struggle for survival with a keen eye for emotional depth, capturing the turmoil and desperation that accompany such a profound change.
The introduction of Blake Marten and Riordan Graves, two dangerously alluring vampire males, adds layers of complexity and intrigue to the narrative. Blake's initial rejection after a night that promises more than it delivers is a poignant moment of emotional abandonment that leaves the protagonist—and the reader—yearning for resolution. In contrast, Riordan’s offer of a deal provides a lifeline, not only to survival but to a path of revenge and, possibly, redemption.
McGinnis excels in the development of the relationship dynamics, weaving a tense and compelling connection between the characters that is charged with an undercurrent of both romantic and existential tension. The protagonist's interactions with Blake and Riordan are beautifully crafted, highlighting her inner conflict between her growing feelings and her desire for vengeance.
The novel's pacing is well-handled, with a mix of intense action sequences and moments of introspective depth. The world-building is robust, with McGinnis painting a vivid picture of a universe where vampires and humans coexist in a delicate balance of power and fear. The thematic exploration of what it means to hold on to one's humanity in the face of monstrous transformation is thoughtfully presented and resonates deeply throughout the story.
However, the book occasionally grapples with the challenge of maintaining this delicate balance between its romantic elements and the darker, more action-driven aspects of the plot. At times, the romantic subplot might feel as though it overshadows the main narrative of rescue and revenge, though this does little to detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.
Overall, Fated In Blood earns a solid four stars for its engaging plot, well-developed characters, and the emotional rollercoaster it presents. L.A. McGinnis has crafted a compelling entry into the paranormal romance genre that fans of vampires and complex heroines will find particularly satisfying. It’s a gripping read that promises excitement and heartache in equal measure, making it a must-read for those who love their romance with a touch of darkness.

I am in my vampire romance era and was thrilled when L.A. McGinnis reached out about ARC reading her newest book in her vampire clan world. This was my first ever book my L.A. McGinnis, and I was sucked in! The pacing? We hit the ground running with action right out of the gate and the plot twists kept you on your toes. The tension, angst and chemistry between MCs? Yes, please. The steam was steaming and the angst because of the forbidden attraction element was chef’s kiss (we got some good groveling people and I was here for it!). I am hooked and will be going back to read more of McGinnis’ earlier series while I wait for book 2 because that cliffy was a bit criminal (talk about a plot twist I didn’t totally anticipate)...but worth it because we love the dynamic between Evie, Rohr, and Blake.
Evangeline Silverwood is searching for her sister, Angel, who has been taken by vampires, and Evie will stop at nothing to get her only remaining family back. After months of tracking, Evie has pinpointed that her sister is in a small town in New York that is riddled with vampires, the one thing she has been trained to eliminate from this world. After getting the intel she needs, Evie devises a bold plan to infiltrate Darkmore Castle, home to one of the oldest and most dangerous vampires she’s ever faced. When Evie gets inside during an auction event, she is confronted with a decision she never thought she’d make: perish or turn into the monsters she despises.
Now, Evie wakes up transformed, starving and at the mercy of two sinfully seductive males–Blake Marten and Riordan Graves. Turns out Evie’s past isn’t something she can run from because her family’s actions come back to haunt her at every turn. When Blake finds out her identity, his anger fuels his decision to toss her away after giving Evie the most memorable night of her life…a decision that pains them both.
Riordan, who just so happens to be King, offers Evie a new deal. Drink, survive, and get her revenge on the creature holding her sister hostage. Easy enough, right? But no one tells a baby vamp the effects of feeding from powerful males who you happen to already be attracted to.
Evie, with her quick thinking, smart mouth, and expertly crafted survival skills will stop at nothing to get the vengeance she craves, all while trying to protect her heart from her captors. But, as the line between hate and love blurs, will she come out unscathed? Is it possible to fight the darkness trying to consume her and what she loves?
Evie is great 1 I do wish we got to see more of her badassert and not hearing her being great but then struggling in training considering all her training with her family. However, I’m assuming she’ll grow over the next books. Hopefully. I loved her sass, and her loyalty to her sister - even if it seems she doesn’t deserve it.
Blake’s a chump and in my opinion needed to grovel way more than he did.he does have a lot of stuff he’s working through with his families deaths, but therapy… the vampires have lawyers, they should have therapists too ya know. That’s a side thought though.
Riordan, he’s suave and sexy. I guess being king doesn’t that to some people though. He’s committed to Evie being his weapon which I get but also, admit you want more. She’s cool, I get it. I’d want more with her too.
Bosch and Collum (which I spent over 2hrs reading as Gollum, as in lotr before my dumbass realised it was a C NOT a G) - where great little henchmen that made me angry with the douscheness. Oh and then you meet Valaine, and he’s gross! You’re a vampire for gods ales, have some respect and sort yourself out!! Ugh. Loved them.
Tyrell - this expired coupon of a trash nugget was a dick. That’s all I can say. You’ll get it when you read this but he’s just a tossa, and his little allies/thralls that you get to meet at the end, chefs kiss! Didn’t see that coming. I thought something else would happen.. it didn’t and tbis thing did. Perfect!
Angel… sweet baby sister angel. I feel like shit for you her because she’s mated to old mate Tyrell, and that’s just not what anyone would want or hope for because he’s just such a dick. I hope we see more than the snippets we did in this book in the coming ones!
Malachi. I’m into him, don’t ask me why… he’s red flags and you know he is/going to be a right dick, but you’re still like “yeeeas!!! I’ll take him!” When you shouldn’t. That’s Malachi.
Aside from that the castles, “venues” in this book are dreary (which is great because you can imagine them looking like run down things), the story line was great and enjoyable.
The only things that I didn’t get were: 1- does she owe a tonne of rent on her apartment because she never went back? Or did she cancel her lease? If so, when? 2-her jacket. What’s it doing now? 3-how longs it been since she turned? Because it seems like weeks have gone past only for it to be like a week, so I was a little confused on this. 4- will we see the little old lady witch again?
“Vampires were ravenous, soulless beasts, but they were also beautiful, elegant creatures, and I didn’t know which was more dangerous—their fangs, hidden behind subtle smiles and soft laughter—or their vicious sensual beauty on full display everywhere I looked.”
With morally grey MCs, vampires and shadow daddies, this book contained some of my favorite tropes, and I was excited to read this book by a new to me author, L.A. McGinnis. Evangeline SIlverwood, Evie, comes from an infamous and cruel family of vampire slayers, who she wants absolutely nothing to do with. She only wants to find and rescue her sister, Angel, who was taken from her. In a failed mission to retrieve her sister, the unthinkable happens, and she is turned into the exact thing she hates—vampires. Saved by Blake and Riordan, the vampire king, she is both attracted and enraged by their behavior, but agrees to help them exact revenge in order to help her sister. Will she be able to save her sister before she loses her heart to these two gorgeous and deadly males?
Fated in Blood is filled with action and kept me engrossed from the first pages. The plot includes some twists and plenty of times you question everyones’ true motives and wonder who the real villain is.
Evie is a sassy, strong, stabby FMC who will do anything to save her sister. The MMCs are complex with Riordan’s desire for vengeance guiding every move he makes including using Evie as a weapon to wield in exacting that revenge. After finding out who Evie’s family is, Blake, who felt an immediate attraction to Evie, despises her and wants nothing to do with her since her family is involved in killing vampires and those he cares about.
I craved more romance between the MMCs and the FMC since the spicy scenes were filled with sensuality fitting for vampires and angst-filled smex that gave them extra steam. It was painful and heartbreaking at times how much their own pasts and prejudices got it the way of the MMCs finding love with the FMC. The villains are truly evil, and the epilogue will leave you reeling. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
If you love morally grey anti-heroes, vampires, slayers and enemies to lovers in your dark romances, then I recommend reading Fated in Blood. Releases today and available now on KU.
Thank you, LA McGinnis, for the physical ARC. As always, these are my own honest thoughts and opinions.
I really appreciate how L.A. McGinnis wrote Evie's trauma. How she kind of fell hard and fast for both Riordan and Blake because of the kindness they showed her. She just wanted to be loved. Taken care of. She wanted someone to hold her. The only people she ever had in her life like that were her sister–(now the guilt eating away at her for failing to keep her mom's last dying wish–to protect her sister) and her mom, who was brutally murdered in front of the two young girls by their own father.
“You are the most stunning creature I've ever seen, Evangeline. You bewitch me now, like you did that first time I saw you. Not a day goes by without me thinking of that moment, wondering if I'd imagined that little spark of hope that flared in my chest when our eyes met.”
Evie grapples with the fact that she's become the one thing in the world she was taught to hate and hunt. She unfortunately wakes up as a vampire after she failed miserably to save her sister from the misogynistic Lord Tyrell, but Evie isn't giving up; she just can't let her sister stay with that monster. Her only option? To take up the offer from the infuriatingly handsome King of the Nocturne Clan, Riordan–be his secret weapon to take Tyrell down once and for all; then she and Angel are free to leave to anywhere their hearts desire.
“I obeyed, barely breathing when he repeated the process on my other leg, this time leaning close enough to drag his lips slowly over the inside of my thigh before fastening the sheath and sliding the knife in slowly.” 🔥
Not only is she struggling with her new identity, her self loathing at what she's become and trying to hold on to that last shred of humanity she has, she's still running from her infamous slayer family, a name she's tried to keep buried, one that will surely get her killed. Not to mention Malachi, a royal pain in everyone's side. Too many secrets hide behind his sharp smile and golden eyes. Could he be behind everything?
“Perhaps I'd only been biding my time until I discovered my true nature, until I found myself alone in the darkness with nothing but the shadows and a lover's sharp bite.”
As our Vicious Little Slayer battles heartbreak, betrayal, abuse and the growing feelings between two males that loathe her due to her family name, will she help save the kingdom from an evil tyrant, or will she help burn it to the ground?
“I was going to burn this clan down, Royal house by Royal house until I was the only one standing in the ashes. And I was going to have Evangeline.”
I LOVE Evie and you will too. She's fierce, loyal, snarky and stabby and doesn't let her trauma dictate who she is/becomes.
