This was a nice little mystery with the Seraphon involved, although it is more focused on the human characters. While it doesn't add much to the Lizardmen's lore, I did appreciate that it focused on the mindset of a single Skink trying to unwind and fulfill the will of the Old Ones and their great plan. The human characters were generally fine, although not really fleshed out considering the length of the story (I did really enjoy the character who loved to equate everything with holy lightning). And the end had a nice little Lovecraftian feel that I appreciated.

All in all, it was a nice little book including the Seraphon and I hope that they get more in the future (cue me crossing my fingers for a full length novel).

The Seraphon getting more love is always a good thing and exploring how their culture differs from the Freeguilders and the way Tchaikovsky tackled it was very entertaining.

Tchaikovsky delivers in this Seraphon focused short story! Irixi was a delightful character and it was fun getting to see the “superstitious and simple” humans through his eyes. Temerai made a great counter narrator as the “Quiet Human.” Seeing the mundane of mortal life mixed with the timelessness of the Seraphon’s Great Plan made for a truly enjoyable read. I can’t wait to read Tchaikovsky’s Seraphon Novel and find what further role Irixi has to play in the Mortal Realms!
