I want to say that it's a gentle and cozy end to a gentle and cozy relationship drama with nothing unexpected, unwelcome, or particularly memorable. But there is a small, brief, and mostly unaddressed act of violence that taints what would have otherwise been a sweet finale. Weird choice.

In the reviewer irony portion of our program today, I will reflect that this is a four volume series that probably should have called it off after three. This ending is… okay… but last volume was the high point for sure.

Kurumi finally examines her feelings for Ruriko after Rio leaves and gets her own space. That’s the story, plus a really lame wedding and a complete lack of closure to Rio’s storyline. Romantically speaking anyway.

Which, okay, it’s not bad to acknowledge that every pairing in the making won’t pan out, but they were hammering that button kind of hard until the end when it went a whole other way. Little odd.

The way we end up diving into Kurumi and Ruriko’s relationship is also really bizarre. An incident of untelegraphed affection, from Kurumi of all people, leads to Ruriko hauling off and slapping her.

Ruriko’s obviously been the one in love-love the whole time, so when her feelings burst out and have the chance of being reciprocated, it all becomes too much, apparently.

I just don’t think it gets resolved with any finesse, especially when there’s a blatantly on-the-nose news report on domestic violence mentioned in a panel the day after. It’s a weird way to bring all this to a conclusion. I mean, at least they talk about it, but either acknowledge the pretty problematic nature of that slap or don’t.

Naturally, they don’t. Then it’s Christmas and a very underwhelming wedding where they exchange a bunch of vows that mean absolutely nothing to anybody there and have cake. At least it’s catered.

As a series this was fine. Like I said, the previous volume with Rio was a ton of fun and she gets most of the good parts here too. It’s pleasant yuri content but has bite in all the wrong places and then doesn’t do anything with it anyways. Weird emotional arc aside, I at least believed these two are about one another.

3 stars - mostly charmless ending, if I’m honest. Cute at times, baffling at others, it doesn’t do its preceding volume a lick of justice with this trite denouement. The day to day bits save it from being much worse, plus Rio.

It got me. The tears flowed from the sweetness! And I got kisses! Thank god! This volume dealt with admitting how they felt about one another and I liked that Kurumi heard Ruriko out about how she was feeling and her fears. Seeing how they were both using the rule about always being friends to hold them back from being more was too sweet! More tears. When they talked about how the best thing in their lives was the other persons. Insert more tears. My first sweat romance yuri series was a win.

More of a 3.5 star rating, but I gave it 4 stars since I really liked Kurumi and Ruriko’s dynamic together.
I think that the thing that prevented me from rating this series an actual 4 star review, is that I wish we could’ve seen a lot more of Kurumi and Ruriko’s dynamic prior to their marriage, or even the marriage deal. There were hints at there being a potential unrequited love but that aspect wasn’t really explored; we mainly got to see the fluff of Kurumi and Ruriko’s marriage of convenience turning to an actual loving married couple.
Overall though, this adorable series had an adorable ending and I just wish it had been given an extra volume or 2 to expand on some things.

Nooo I'm so sad... I really thought I'd love the end of this series and be able to give them all very high ratings, but this ending just wasn't it... it was by far the weakest of the bunch. :(

My biggest issue is:

Besides that, I just think barely anything interesting or particularly heartwarming happens in this volume. I wish I could say I enjoyed it as much as all the rest, but it simply didn't sell me. Very sad :(

*more if a review for the whole series*

Cute cute cute. The biggest thing i love about this series is how cute and sweet it is. The relationship between Kurumi and Ruriko always would make me want to squeal because of how sweet it was. Lots of blushing and wondering about each-others feeling. The exploration of the differences between friendship, family, and lovers was very interesting. However I wish the series would go deeper into the premise and add more depth to the relationship.

Overall, an extremely cute and sweet, a highly unusual relationship that heals my soul.

This was probably the weakest of the series, but still incredibly sweet and enjoyable. I've seen a lot of reviews talking about The Slap as being harmful or unnecessary to the narrative, but I have to disagree. Could it have been done differently? Sure, but it did serve its purpose in the narrative, and it acted as a catalyst to get Ruriko and Kurumi together. I feel like we also got a sequel hook of Rio working at the bakery and finding herself a girlfriend, which is something I would be extremely on board for. Overall, this was a satisfying ending to a great slow burn yuri series.

The premise of the series is simple and you could see the "twists" coming from page 1 - but, that's hardly a bad thing when the series feels like comfort food the entire time you're feasting on it's pages.
It really is a feast, the art is consistent and often times drop dead gorgeous with a special shoutout for the colored pages of the gals being iconic sweet cotton candy lesbos together.

While "I Married My Female Friend" will hardly challenge your ideals and make you think, it doesn't need to. The story of a girl head over heels for her friend, and her awkward, choatic, and seemingly "never need a lover" girl that figures out love is pretty rad equals an undeniably good time.

If you're feeling sappy or mushy and want a lil dessert of a read, the enjoy the comfy and scenic ride.

This was mostly really sweet. I think the slap could have been written differently as it would have made it much better without it in there. There were many other ways to handle that. The rest of volume 4 was adorable and sweet. I could read many more volumes of these two but sadly this was the last. The entire series was heart warming and these two are so sweet. It would have been a 5 star read if that one scene wasn't in it.

An eh end to a series that was otherwise mostly enjoyable and cute. An event occurs in this volume that is never really adequately addressed (in my opinion, however others may feel differently) that I have big problems with. I will not be keeping this series.

This manga ends innocently enough. A brief disturbance in the main character's relationship but they fix it easy enough. This is not a bad Yuri series for beginners but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. Still, I enjoyed it and am glad I picked up.

Since the beginning of the series, there’s been one main point of tension, and it resolved even better than I thought it would. Adorable and sweet from start to finish, and I can’t recommend this series highly enough!

I felt the ending to this series was pretty mediocre. Cute, but not much more than that.

This author got me again!!!

Anyway. My vol 3 “where is this going??” review from yesterday was for naught. It was a slow burn building “oops I have a crush on my wife” romance.

It took so long for that to be made clear though 😭😭😭 I was so confused. The ending definitely felt rushed.

As the rest of the series, this was absolutely adorable. Nice to finally see Kurumi and Ruriko give in to their mutual feelings and then commemorate with an actual wedding 🥰🫶🏼

Sweet slow burn yuri-josei romance. It never quite reached either the depth or the effervescence of my favorite series but I enjoyed it.
