One Midnight Kiss

Rate this book
Lavish parties in Paris don’t impress a man like me.

Been there and done that a thousand times over.

But when I stumble upon a mysterious woman in black at a masked ball in Paris, she does more than impress.

She turns me on, over, and upside down just looking at her.

We shared a kiss but I know she needed more.

We both did.

Now all I have left of her is her glove.

I shouldn’t care this much about a memory—or a woman.

Especially when it’s getting in the way of a new girl who turns my head.

She happens to be my brother’s sister-in-law.

Talk about family ties.

But she also happens to be someone else.

Someone who taunts me with familiarity and curves I know I’ve seen before.

I’m on my knees for my woman in Paris.

And all she was…

Was one midnight kiss.

Every good girl deserves a bad boy. ~Weston

There were too many things that I couldn’t get past that added up to a hugely disappointing read for me. A major problem is the reference to Natalia first meeting Fox at New Year’s party the same night her ex husband is getting married. The author mentions that this marriage takes place only months after Natalia’s divorce. So when Natalia meets Fox in a workplace setting a few months later, we are supposed to believe, according to the author that Natalia went back to school, did her masters, went through therapy and worked her way up, in a new city mind you, to become a director at marketing company. What?!? Why not say that 2 years has passed? Or even 3? The author was more concerned with having them meet up a year later than any realistic back story for Natalia. And honestly, it defies belief that they wouldn’t recognize each other only months later. There was also sloppy editing, like Fox going to bed early on a Saturday night, but the next morning we are told he runs into Natalia on Saturday morning - should have been Sunday. Natalia is given a glass of wine upon entering Christa’s house but then we are told she grabs and fills a wine glass minutes later. And Fox a billionaire?? He’s a guy we’re told skips out on work, misses the biggest career launch of his life with no excuse, who books middle seats on flights and who foots the bill for his sister-in-law’s fertility treatments because he says he doesn’t want them taking out a second mortgage. Why would his only sibling have a mortgage and be struggling to meet IVF bills? The way Fox is written makes him too woefully immature and simple to possibly be a billionaire.

A romantic fairytale moment at midnight in Paris on New Year’s Eve, reminiscent of Cinderella, still occupies a large chunk of both Fox and Natalia’s minds almost a year later. The two met at a masquerade ball and had a memorable midnight kiss and Natalia panics and runs, leaving behind her glove. Fast forward several months and the reader is introduced into tech billionaire, Fox as his company is about to release a piece of AI that will revolutionize the way people live. But the public is scared of it. Que robots taking over the world vibes. He gives in to pressure from his business partner and hires an advertising agency to help improve not only the image of the new technology but his own image as well. Enter Natalia, an advertising genius who has been publicly devastated by her ex-husband and sworn off men and relationships. She has put up walls around her heart that no one will ever break down. Fox and Natalia meet and the de ja vue is so intense it makes them dizzy They find they both run in similar circles and have the same friends.

The ice queen and cocky playboy billionaire rub each other the wrong way from the start. But both are professionals until someone proposes a fake engagement as a way to help build a more wholesome image. The feelings that have been simmering under the surface explode and while Fox is enjoying the ride, Natalia panics and runs. They are both still under the spell of their New Year’s Eve fairytale from last year.

Weston Parker has created some very relatable characters and placed them in a realistic fairytale for the modern day. When we read a romance it is usually the guy who panics and runs. It’s good to read the flip side when the woman runs and the man has to cling. Weston wrote a captivating fake engagement, Cinderella-esk romance that I devoured in less than two days and was sad when it ended.

I was given an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

A little bit Cinderella, a smidge of fake relationship, and a heaping dose of enemies to lovers. Fox and Natalia drove me nuts while at the same time they made me swoon. Their story was smirk-y and precious, with a tantalizing slow burn before the spice kicked up to high. It hurt my heart to see the wounds Natalia’s ex had left on her heart, but I adored watching the way Fox worked to heal them. I loved this pair and I’m feeling a little bereft now that the book’s over.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Fox and Natalia. The author does a great job developing their story and paints his scenes perfectly. He takes you into their lives with chemistry, mystery and romance and kept me turning the pages with the enemies to lovers storyline. He moves the story fluidly and delivers a terrific holiday romance.

I picked up this book thinking it was going to be a new year’s story based on the title but it wound up being another Christmas story. I’m not complaining, I just wanted to switch gears for the new year and was taken a little aback. This started off flowing really well. I was into it and very intrigued. I enjoyed getting to know Natalia and Fox, what they stood for and their personalities. The story kept going and was going at a great pace until it wasn’t. Then it just started crawling and the story didn’t go anywhere because Natalia kept not wanting to go any further with Fox. She kept pushing him away and didn’t want to even entertain getting to know him. She made him chase her and made it difficult for Fox to even get in touch with her. She was the one that dragged their relationship out and they didn’t even start to be official with each other at almost the end of the book. It was the time Fox spent getting to know her and spending time with her while working on his campaign for his AI home idea that got dragged out. Natalia wouldn’t let it get more personal until one night they finally give into their attraction and pull but then after that it gets slow again and Natalia still held him at arms length until she wakes up and realizes Fox is different and won’t betray or hurt her like she was so deeply in her past marriage. I’ve never read a book that had the heroine so unsure about the hero before, well maybe this is the second book I read that did it. It wasn’t like there wasn’t any chemistry between them, there was and they had this pull with each other and a sense of familiarity because of how the book started. You know who the mystery woman and man are immediately from the beginning and the concept Weston came up with was creative and very romantic, taking a page from Cinderella and basing it on that idea. I gave the book a 4 just for that and with their connection even when I know how the story will end upon first starting this book. It’s everything in between that falls in the more 3 range because Natalia is scared and doesn’t trust anymore. It was hard to get into the book during this stage because nothing was happening and it felt like things were at a standstill. Also, the book is described as a fake fiancée story but I felt like this wasn’t really a thing in the book. Fox starts it by giving her a fake ring as a joke and then they just go from there bringing it up when necessary. Honestly this book is really more of a 3.5 for me but I rounded it to a 4 because of creativity with the plot, their attraction with each other and the emotional connection they felt, plus the familiarity and ghost of something that happened but the pull they felt from the first moment they met when they didn’t know who the other was. The book plays with fate and I liked that about this because I believe in this to a degree, there’s just something magical about it and I felt this between Fox and Natalia. I just wish the slower parts in between the story didn’t drag on like they did. I’m finishing this year having read less books, but looking forward to starting new series next year and finding authors I haven’t heard of before and possibly reading more if time allows but will be happy with the amount I finished if it ends up being the same as 2024.

Just nope. There is no stretch of the imagination big enough to believe any of this book.

The MCs meet at a masked ball in Paris and agree to meet one year later. They then meet unknowingly when FMC, who is the marketing director for a big firm, is asked to take on his account. They both appear to know each other but they don't know how.

How? SERIOUSLY. The FMC's best friend married his brother! They were both at a wedding together - IN a wedding together. Of course they have met outside the masked ball. Worse? These brothers have the same last name but apparently that rings NO BELL WHATSOEVER with FMC.

Let's go on. MMC googles FMC to see what she's about. Of course, he's a snazzy AI guy, but still relies just on google (eye roll) and (this is the start of many, many inconsistencies in the book) he sees that two years ago an announcement was made that FMC's ex got married that past New Year's Eve - THE SAME DAY - GASP - of the masquerade ball in Paris. So two years? Or 11 months? This is in the same paragraph.

Now - get this - FMC, in the past 11 months, moved to the West Coast, got her MBA, and became the highly-paid (her words) director of many marketing managers. What on earth?

I want FMCs that have great jobs. I want them smart. But I want some basic sense of realism.

I get that they might not realize that they were each other's masked love, but they had to have known each other, and FMC's life is absolutely impossible unless she had the goods on someone. The timeline is all wrong.

Honestly, I had a hard time with the MMC thinking he was a great spy by just googling her. He was pretty excited about his cleverness and yet he had created a robot that was apparently amazing.

Ugh. I also have to admit that I had more than a little - blech - with the thought of a brother and sister writing about sex.

Silicon Valley billionaire tech software giant Fox Samuelson accepts an invitation to a masked ball in Paris. American Natalia Dawkins, fresh from a brutal divorce, comes to the same ball, and they meet on an otherwise empty balcony. Per protocol, they do not exchange names or anything else personal and part ways. The following year Fox is worried about his latest startup because people are skeptical about the AI element in the whole house technology function named Hanna, so his twin brother Wilder and his wife Christa suggest a new look form him - one that features a fiancée, even if she’s fake, and Christa says she has the perfect woman for the plan. Re-enters Natalia, Christa’s friend and crackerjack marketing wizard.

Even as Natalia tries to keep a professional relationship with Fox, she fails, in large part because he is relentless in his pursuit to get to know and understand more about her. Walking back to their hotel at a tech conference after the successful launch of Hanna, they stumble upon a diamond ring knockoff, and the fiancée plan roars to life, climaxing in beautiful, steamy passion.

What a beautiful, heartwarming romance Weston Parker has penned, filled with an outstanding original plot and wonderful characters whose world centers around high stakes business peppered with enough steamy scenes to keep a whole city heated during the thralls of winter, plus a surprise ending. Give yourself a treat for the holidays and pick up a copy of One Midnight Kiss, snuggle in your favorite chair with a warm beverage, and enjoy.

Fox is a billionaire, a charismatic playboy, and the CEO of Home Tech. As he prepares to unveil his cutting-edge AI robot, Hanna, he faces a major challenge: creating a marketing strategy that will win public trust. When an invitation to a New Year’s Eve masquerade ball lands in his lap, he decides to show up.

Meanwhile, Natalia, a talented marketing director living in Seattle, is surprised to receive an invitation to the same ball—especially since she hasn’t lived in New York for a while. Despite her doubts, she decides to go. At the ball, sparks fly as she shares a magical dance with Fox. Their connection deepens with a midnight kiss, but Natalia disappears before he can learn her name. In a twist reminiscent of Cinderella, Fox promises to meet her there again in a year, whenever she’s ready.

Fast forward: Fox’s public image as a playboy threatens the success of his product launch. His sister-in-law proposes a bold solution—a fake engagement to present him as a stable, relatable figure. Natalia is specifically requested to lead Home Tech’s marketing efforts. When she and Fox meet in Seattle, there’s an undeniable sense of familiarity between them, though neither can pinpoint why.

The journey that follows is filled with twists, growth, and revelations, culminating in the heartwarming moment they realize they were each other’s mystery partners from the ball. The story is both captivating and endearing, with a perfect blend of romance and intrigue. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it!

I approached this book with some hesitation, and at times, I found myself struggling to stay invested due to a lull in the middle. However, the story redeemed itself with a captivating start and a beautifully satisfying ending that left me with starry-eyed feelings.

Fox, one of the protagonists, immediately stole my heart. He’s charming, grounded, and genuinely likable. Natalia, on the other hand, took a bit more time for me to warm up to. Initially, her indecisiveness and tendency to run away from her problems were frustrating. However, as her backstory unfolded, I began to understand the trauma from her previous marriage that shaped her hesitations. It added layers to her character and made her eventual growth even more rewarding. By the end, Natalia had won me over as well.

The pacing of the story is one of the most important aspects of a novel for me, and I felt this book could have improved in that regard. The slow burn was a double-edged sword—it was necessary to build the tension but risked losing my attention when the story dragged. That said, I’m glad I persevered because the payoff was worth it.

One standout feature was how the author managed to create steamy moments without relying on explicit language. The subtlety added a unique charm to the romance, and I’d place the spice level at a three.

Overall, this book is one I’d recommend, especially for readers who enjoy a love story with depth and emotional growth. It may not be perfect, but it’s a memorable journey worth taking.

Weston Parker has done it again! He crafted a heartwarming romance that weaves an original plot with fascinating characters navigating the high-stakes world of business, all while keeping the heat alive with plenty of passion to warm your winter nights. It is a little like Cinderella to start.
Silicon Valley billionaire Fox is off to a masked ball in Paris, and guess who else is on the guest list?American Natalia Dawkins, who’s just come out of a tough divorce. They have an encounter on a quiet balcony, but in true masked ball fashion, they don’t share any personal details and part ways…. But think of each other often! Fast-forward a year, and Fox is feeling anxious about his latest startup. With people raising eyebrows about the AI component of his whole house tech called Hanna, his twin brother Wilder and sister-in-law Christa come up with a clever plan: how about a faux fiancée to spruce up his image? Christa has just the perfect person in mind—Natalia! She’s not just a friend; she’s a brilliant marketing expert.
As Natalia tries to keep things strictly professional, Fox is undeterred in his quest to learn more about her. After a successful launch of his technology at the tech conference, they find themselves walking back to their hotel when they stumble upon a diamond ring knockoff, igniting their faux engagement plan and leading to some unexpected, steamy moments. Enjoy this one!!

A love story of fantasy and reality.

Fox is a billionaire and a playboy. He’s the CEO of Home Tech. He also needs a marketing strategy to launch his product, Hanna, a robot. It includes AI. He gets an invitation to a masquerade ball on New Year’s Eve and is intrigued by it, so he decides to go. Natalia lives in Seattle now after a divorce and living in New York. She is a marketing director. She gets an invitation to the same ball and wonders why because she doesn’t even live in New York City anymore. She’s going to be a changed woman. It didn’t work at so well at the ball. She danced with Fox, but ran away right after they kissed at Midnight. Fox said he will meet her here a year later when she was ready. He took one her long black gloves. Fox’s sister-in-law has a plan for his product. It’s a fake fiancé to show he’s a stable and normal person instead of a playboy, so the public will accept hos product. Natalia is requested by Home Tech, specifically for the marketing of his product. When they meet in Seattle for the first time, there is a familiarity there for both of them, but they can’t place it. Their journey is a long one, but the main highlight is when they realize who the other is and they meet back at the ball a year later. It was great to go on their journey with them. I loved every minute of it.

Amazing Parisian meet-cute ♥️
Wow! I absolutely adored this story and if I could, I’d give it more than a 5 star rating.
Fox and Natalia both attend an invitation only masked ball in Paris one New Year’s Eve.
Fox meets a stunningly beautiful masked woman in a black gothic dress on a balcony overlooking the Seine, he has a wild and instant connection with her.
Natalia, hurting but extremely attracted to this dream man before her is wanting to enjoy her night and stay anonymous.
A dance and a passionate kiss has her fleeing the ball.
Heading home to their real lives in Seattle, unbeknownst to them their worlds collide.
Neither forgetting their tryst in the city of love they look forward to possibly meeting their mystery partner next New Year’s Eve.
Not realising who they are to each other they both end up working closely together.
This story has Cinderella vibes, a fake fiancé trope and so much angst, banter and playful sparring between these two.
Can they both give up their mystery partners to to take a chance on themselves and their growing connection?
Or will they forever regret not heading to Paris again?
Fantastic settings, characters and storyline which I absolutely loved.
A book I most definitely will re-read.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the love story of Fox and Natalia. They met on the balcony of a hotel in Paris during a masked ball and had an instant connection, but Natalia fled and Fox was only left with her glove. They had agreed to meet again the following year. In the meantime, Fox was getting ready to launch his latest project, an AI for in the home that he hoped would make life easier for people. But Fox had an image problem, he was seen as distant and cold. His sister-in-law suggested a fake fiance to help with his image and she thought her best friend Natalia would be perfect. Natalia was a market exec and agreed to help Fox. Natalia had sworn off men after her divorce and she didn't want to like Fox, but she found she couldn't hate him and he was determined to get to know her and find out why she was so cold to him. I really liked this book. I really liked Fox and thought he and Natalia had great chemistry and that he was good for her. Fox showed Natalia that she was worth getting to know and was worth being loved. I liked how they both thought of the mystery person for Paris and didn't know it was the other. This was another great one from Weston.

Natalia and Fox will grab your attention right at the beginning and you won’t be able to put this book down. I stayed up all night until I finished it. Their chemistry was explosive the first time they met at a masked ball in Paris on New Years. Neither knew the other’s name but their souls were forever joined. They agreed to meet one year later at the same place. Fate brings them together again when she is hired to market his new software project. They are enemies from the minute they met but there is something that seems familiar to each of them. No shortage of angst or drama as feelings begin to develop. What happens when neither can forget the person in Paris. What about all the baggage from her ex? Why does she run away when she realizes he is the masked guy from Paris. Their banter is so much fun and will keep you entertained. An HEA, no cliffhanger and an epilogue you’ll like. Weston, has another five star book and one you don’t want to miss. I read a complimentary copy via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.

Fox and Natalia meet at a masquerade ball in Paris on New Years Eve. They share a midnight kiss and the pull is strong for both of them, so much that when they part they both promise to meet next year, same time, same place never knowing who each other is. Fast forward Natalia is a marketing genius who ends up working for Fox's tech company. The pull is strong between the two of them but they both are still focused on the New Years Eve promise to the stranger they met that they think are their one true love (or could be). A fake engagement and the underlying sexual pull and mutual feelings have them second guessing the New Years Eve promise they made to strangers. This book is a true page turner and will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next chapter. The sexual feelings between the two of them will have you blushing and wanting more!!! It is such a great Read, and at a great time of the year since they celebrate Christmas waiting for the New Year.!

One Midnight Kiss follows Fox Samuelson and Natalia Dawkins in a Cinderella like story with a twist.
New Years Eve, Paris, a lavish masked party where Fox is a guest where he runs into a mysterious woman all in black who share a romantic, and memorable kiss at midnight.. in fact, the kiss is so intense and life changing that Natalia flees, leaving behind one of her gloves. Fast forward one year, and the pair are still remembering their kiss, and Fox is beyond surprised when the advertising agency he hires sends Natalia to work on his project, causing the feelings from the night in Paris to resurface.. neither one knows the other is the one they kissed, but the feeling that they know one another is intense. When Fox’s playboy image threatens to ruin everything about the new product launch, he asks Natalia to fake an engagement to help fix his image. Will she be able to do it? Or will old feelings rise to the surface?

Hold onto your heart, Wes has written another doozy! Steamy romance with a slow burn! Natalia sure has been put through the wringer. But, that's what men like Fox were made for, even though he didn't know it at first. They fight feelings from time to time, but they're both realizing they feel a little guilt about the person they met in Paris and had promised to meet again in one year, New Years Eve, same time, same place. Fox will make you swoon, sweat, ohh and ahh, this man has a huge heart of gold and he is hot, hot, and hot! Natalia is a beauty that's had her heart stomped on by her ex husband, and has horrifying trust issues. Fox can be her man if she'll let him. Thank you Wes for another extraordinary story, with a breathtaking HEA!

It starts on News Year’s Eve with an anonymous meeting at an exclusive party in Paris with ONE MIDNIGHT KISS and it ends with a promise.

But, story is about what takes place in the time leading up to the next New Year celebration with the promise of the anonymous, unrequited attraction, and the events of real life getting in the way.

I was in the mood for a book like this with just the right amount of walls to break down, relationships to sort out, and pasts to forget. I received an advance copy of the book to read and can highly recommend it. The Holiday romance genre is full of Christmas, so having New Year to look forward to is a refreshing change as well as having a story that is real romantic.

This book was amazing! I was so engrossed in it i practically read the entire book on a plane ride.
A party in Paris on New Year's Eve was where the book started, and two people shared a dance and a bit of banter before she left, not sharing names or phone numbers.
Just memories.
Ten months later, Fox is trying to save his company from ruin.
Natalia is the only one who can help him.
Except ... they can't stand each other.
Really.
Until a weekend away Fox casually mentions a fiancee and nods towards Natalia in the audience.
And the fake fiancee is created.
But this book is nothing like a normal fake fiancee book.
Get it and and enjoy it during the holiday!! You won't regret a single page :)

Fox has created a new product that could revolutionize the IT industry however it could be in jeopardy due to his personal reputation. His family suggests that showing he is in a committed relationship could sway people’s opinions, but he never expected that he would share a past with the woman they suggest.

Natalia and Fox shared one kiss even if they weren’t aware that it was with each other. When fate brings them together they feel an immediate connection even if they don’t understand it and it isn’t long before their pretend relationship starts to feel very real.

Great chemistry, a heartwarming romance and two people who finally get a chance to see what they could have between them.

A mystery woman shares a kiss with a sexy stranger on a balcony in France...it doesn't get much hotter than that. Fox falls in lust with a dream woman but never learns her name. It turns out to be Natalia, the new marketing exec in charge of his new AI launch, but neither of them know it. These two do NOT hit it off in real life, and stumble through a full year of enemies...to lovers...but still holding back a piece of their heart for the 'one that got away'. This is a beautifully written story, full of the typical ups and downs of a romance, but with lots of realism and honesty along the way. Well worth the read!!

I thought this was a pretty good book. I really liked the characters. The banter and spice were great. I really wanted to give it 5 stars, but there were a few details that felt a little off to me. For example, Natalia has been divorced for a year, but there were multiple times that you got the impression that it had been years since her divorce. In fact, at one point there is a reference to “years of therapy” after her divorce. They are minor things that don’t hurt the overall story, but they were disruptive to the flow of the story for me. If you can overlook those glitches, it really is a good story.

When two strangers meet in Paris, they have an immediate connection. But with the masks, they have no idea who the other one is. But they agree to meet up again in 1 year at this very same club. That was just the beginning of the story.

Fox and Natalia have a love-hate relationship from the moment they meet. Fox needs a new image for his billionaire tech company, so he hires the ad agency upstairs in his building. Natalia is sent because she's the best, and she gets under Fox's skin right away.

This book is a romantic, slow-burn, that will have you dying for more. Will they realize they were the strangers who met in Paris? So satisfying and so worthwhile to get there!

Two people looking for a fantasy, and we get to enjoy their journey. Natalie is rebuilding her life from a time that tried to break her, her spirit, and her trust. Through in Fox, a man that is able to push her buttons, and bring out her fire as well. He's not the typical billionaire, and I loved that we get that softer side yet he is very protective. I was pulled into their world, enjoyed their close friends and family, and getting to know these great characters. It's a sweet read, with heat, and more. Enjoyable from start to finish.

Fox and Natalia experience segments of some of my favorite fairytales. You definitely hav to read this engaging book to locate them. Fox is a complex billionaire who is very philanthropic in a very quiet way. He is very selective in choosing friends. His twin is one of his best friends. Natalia has reinvented herself after a devastating breakup. She is now standoffish, a loner, extremely smart, and stoped dating. How Fox and Natalia got together is the first touch of a fairytale. The multiple storylines and characters make this book complex, entertaining, engaging, and an original read.

Fate brought them together.

This book is a great combination of Cinderella, An Affair to Remember, and Sleepless in Seattle. Fox is a tech billionaire and a ladies man, never settling down. But when he meets a mysterious masked woman on New Years Eve in Paris he is taken aback and plans to reunite with her next New Years Eve. He never even knew her name but was drawn to her. Natalia is a brilliant marketing director and hardass. She has a past that haunts her. When these two are thrown together in business and personal life, sparks start to fly. But what about the mysterious woman in Paris?

A Delightful and Heartwarming Holiday Romance!

One Midnight Kiss is a fantastic read that perfectly blends romance, humor, and holiday magic. The fake fiancée trope is executed beautifully, with plenty of chemistry and sweet moments between the main characters. The story is engaging from start to finish, keeping you hooked with its charming dialogue and heartfelt emotions.

The billionaire romance aspect adds a fun twist, and the holiday setting makes it even more special—perfect for curling up with on a cozy night. If you’re looking for a cute, lighthearted romance with just the right amount of drama and swoon-worthy moments, this book is a must-read! Highly recommend!

I have been reading Mr. Parker's stories for a long time now.

Who says men cannot be romantic?
Well, once you read his work, you will no longer believe they can't!
Or, you'll at least agree with me that Mr. Parker is a total romantic!

Mr. Parker evokes so many relatable emotions via his amazing characters!

Fox and Natalia captivated me, and I expect they'll do the same for every romantic reader!

A fake engagement, on top of that scorching New Year's Eve, and things might become very real!
