As a self-published indie author, I'm passionate about crafting immersive stories that transport readers to new worlds. My debut book, The Forge of Law, is the first instalment in a thrilling trilogy that blends the dramatic events of the War of the Roses with a young adults magical fantasy. When I'm not writing, you can find me researching historical events, exploring ideas of mythology and magic, or clearing my mind while swimming - it's in these quiet moments that my thoughts come together and the story begins to unfold. I'm currently working on the second book in the Old Forge trilogy, and I'm excited to share it with you you in the future.

5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would recommend this to all family and friends.

Wow! Congratulations on an utterly fantastic debut novel R J Rivers!
I devoured this book in a matter of days. The story flows very well and is written perfectly for its age range. The author has clearly done research on the war of the roses as it is also factually correct even though it is a fictional piece.
This for me was an unputdownable book and I cannot wait for the next one as this is part one of a trilogy, please let it come out soon as I so desperately need to know what Rowan gets up to next!

Just finished The Forge of Law by R.J. Rivers and WOW, what a ride!! 🔥⚒️
Imagine being a blacksmith’s apprentice and secretly having magical powers… sounds badass, right? Well, for Rowan, it’s a lot more dangerous than cool. With magic being feared (and people literally getting burned for it), Rowan’s life is a constant balancing act between survival and destiny.

The story kicks off big time when a PHOENIX (!!) 🦅✨ enchants his hammer, and from there, it’s an epic battle of right vs. temptation. The whole War of the Roses backdrop adds even more tension and high stakes!

Rowan’s character is so real—he’s not your typical “chosen one” hero. He’s messy, scared, brave, and sometimes selfish… and that’s what makes him so relatable. I loved the way R.J. Rivers blurs the line between hero and villain, forcing you to really think about every choice Rowan makes.

If you’re into magic, medieval vibes, internal struggles, and heart-racing action scenes… you NEED to grab this book!! ⚔️

Highly recommend for fans of epic fantasy, coming-of-age tales, and morally grey characters.

Excellent book, alive with medieval lore yet tastefully combined with contemporary thought. I personally loved the Anglo Saxon spirit of courage, loyalty and adventure which pervades the novel and found the plot very gripping. I look forward to the next book in the trilogy.

From the very beginning this book hooked me with fabulous writing and great imagery. I adored Rowan and Bella, and had a soft spot for Law too.

I love how everything was magical and secretive. I've never been as interested in blacksmith business before! One of my favourite things about this book was how refreshingly unique it was.

The only reason for the deducted star was due to the politics part... as someone who argued to take three subjects at uni and one of them being politics, I'm not sure why but whenever I hear Kings and Lords I just find myself zoning out (unless they're of a Fae Court 😅) Although I had never even heard of War of the Roses so I did learn something! a bit embarrassing since I'm British and didn't know already 🙈

If you like: fantasy, magic, war, medieval, coming-of-age, awesome friendships and fabulous writing then this book is for you! I can't wait to see where book 2 takes us.
