I’ve spent the better part of a decade trying to save the world. Twice a century, Mount Slate threatens to erupt, and for my entire life, the four families in charge haven’t seemed to care about their impending doom.

So it fell to me to try to fix things.

To make peace.

Me, a man whose greatest skill is pissing people off so much that they challenge me to a duel, and then killing them in that duel.

Now the moment is here, and my clever stone is telling me that one man—a sweet, innocent, infuriating judgmental bastard—is the only one who’s capable of saving the world. And I have to help him do it.

I’m starting to wonder if the world is even worth saving.

Moonstriker is the last in a series of four books, starring one cynical not-quite-assassin, one ray of sunshine, and one very grumpy mountain. It both Aubrey and Kit’s HEA, as well as the conclusion of the overall series arc.

Ok, do you ever have the feeling you are reading but the story isn't really sinking in?
I had read the previous 3 books in the series and I guess I was expecting a bit of a big finale in this book but that didn't happen.
The family heads are gathered at the mountain. ( I always thought they all had to be there to prevent an eruption.)
Aubrey and Kit are forced to walk back to the chateau after abandoning their car. The walk takes for ages.
Kit goes on about 'The Plan', and here is what I missed. What was the plan? Was it to get Aubrey to bond with the mountain? To get together with Aubrey?
The gathering of the family heads - didn't see the point.
I guess I was disappointed with the final book.

“Aubrey was . . . more complicated than I’d first decided, when we had met. He wasn’t just a stubborn asshole.
He still was one, though.
And I kind of liked that too, in the end.
After all, so was I.”

There is so much I loved in this book and I can’t talk about most of it, argh. Instead, I’ll gush about how wonderful it was to really to get to know Aubrey, who’s a treasure, and watch him hold his own, and how amazing it was to finally experience Kit’s falling in love.

Everything makes so much sense now, and Kit’s story was worth the wait! I will forever have a soft spot for sarcastic but soft-hearted assassins and their very stubborn loves. I really thought Kit was going to rock in with the top spot but my heart belongs to Frost and Caspian. Thankfully with some lovely surprises woven in, my heart is supremely happy with this very stone-tastic end to a brilliant series.

Moonstriker is the 4th and final book in The Summertide Chronicles series. This series should be ready in order. This was a great way to end the series by finally getting Kit's story. Kit's love interest is Aubrey and they couldn't be more perfect for each other. Both are stubborn and sarcastic. I can't really tell you much about the book because I don't do spoilers but I can say this book and couple were worth the wait. I loved the whole series and can't wait to see what Sam Burns writes next. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.

I loved the final instalment to the Summertide Chronicles! We learned a little more about Kit in each book leading up so finding out his true motivations, and the culmination of The Plan, was enlightening. Aubrey and Kit start out with preconceived notions about each other, but I liked How they grew past that. There is humour, danger, as well as self reflection and acceptance. Everything wraps up quite satisfyingly.

I had such high hopes for this book that it actually saddened me when I realized how dissapointed I was.

The things I liked:
- Kit, obviously.
- Aunt Titania falling in love too.
- the ending for the overarching plot was satisfactory.

The things that did 't work for me:
- character development. It was all wonky and very unbalanced. The author spent 3 books establishing Kit. He's there from book one as a side character and every book adds a little to his development until we hit the climax in the previous book. ( He received A LOT of character exposition in Sunrunner). On the other hand Aubrey is so underdeveloped that is hard to connect with him, especially since the author choose for this couple the misunderstanding troupe, which leads me to my next point.
- Misinderstanding/misscomunication troupe. It's easy to understand Kit because we had 3 book to warm up to him, Aubrey received no such treatment so he comes out as a judgemental asshole. No big deal, this is something that can be worked on, the author even managed to issolate them from the group for some bonding time. Only it didn't work for me. One second Aubrey had all of this preconceived ideas about Kit and the next he looks into his oh! So grey eyes and suddenly he understands EVERYTHING about him, every nuanced expression, every preparation Kit made all while bonding to a fucking mountain! Which leads me to the next point,
- we are in book 4 (and final) and the worldbuilding hasn't been properly done so the rocks, stones and magic come and go at the convenience of the author without much of an explanation. It's fine that he can bound to the mountain.. can we get a more detailed explanation other than the mountain is a bunch of rocks? Some people never bond to a stone but every male character that is not a Moonstriker gets to bond to several stones and that is normal? That was never established as normal previously.
- Delta. Her character makes no sense. I thought she would get some development since in Sunrunner pointed to something like that but nope, she remained trash with no intention to change. Also, why bring the full cast of characters if they weren't going tk do shit? Adair, mybaby, is on page like 3 seconds. He appears more in Kit's inner monologue than on page, it's ridiculous.

The more I think about it the more I have to complain! Like the book has a single spicy scene and it's in the middle of nowhere with no lube on sight and one character is slightly high from a bonding and is also injured (on the leg but still, in no condition to top I would say). I would've prefered no sex scene to that. Leave it for the epilogue or cut it out completely if it doesn't fit but forced like this was not rewarding at all.

Whatever, this book was mid as fuck and no one is more dissapointed by that than me. I was really anticipating this and now I feel cheated and empty :(
I actually couldn't bring myself to give it two stars lol 3 for my least favorite book will have to do.

Burns’ fantastic story swells to a close with a sense of wonder, many “ah ha” moments and scenes of love and joy.

Rating: 4.75🌈

Sam Burns fantastic series, The Summertide Chronicles, comes to an end, not with a bang but with wedding, which is attended by all the other characters and couples.

Was it a great finale? Yes. Sticking with the theme and incredible complexity of this series and characters, it is. Burns may not have written a story that explosively dynamic in its entirety but its narrative is still powerful in its own way, deeply satisfying and compelling to the end.

Mt. Slate is shaking the earth, threatening to destroy the entire world, unless the four families gathering together there can find a way to make it stop.

Kit Moonstriker’s entire life has revolved around The Plan, one he and his crystal, Nikka, have made/foreseen to keep Mt Slate’s from shaking apart and the world saved. It all comes down now to Aubrey, an orphan raised apart from the families.

Everything about the story is so different and beautifully written. Kit’s story is further explained and more importantly, why all those decisions were made by himself are now revealed. And Aubrey’s history comes into full view, for himself too. His lack of bonding with a crystal, his family connections, and his emotional perspective on life and family.

Having the two men working together, discussing their own lives and their misconceptions about each other, it really lets the reader into their growing relationship and intimacy.

It’s also a slow melding of big moments and storylines as another huge aspect of this story emerges during this journey of theirs.

Burns’ fantastic story swells to a close with a sense of wonder, many “ah ha” moments and scenes of love and joy.

It makes sense when you have a series where the characters are not just magical people but beings who are sentient crystals and even shifters. What an incredible series this has been. I truly love it and could have stayed for many more stories.

It’s fitting that we end on a wedding. A great satisfying sendoff.

If you are looking for a beautifully crafted, outstanding piece of fantasy fiction, grab up The Summertide Chronicles by Sam Burns. It’s one of my favorite series and one I’m highly recommending!

Love these covers too.

The Summertide Chronicles:
- [x] Gloombringer #1
- [x] Dawnchaser #2
- [x] Sunrunner #3
- [x] Moonstriker #4 - finale

I picked the first book of this series on a whim because I was in the mood for a fantasy book plus it had been a while since I read a book by this author.

Safe to say (as usual), I was pulled into this interesting world and bing read all the released book in the series in a row.

When I heard that this final and most anticipated (at least for me) book was coming, I eagerly requested it and was so happy when I got an ARC for it.

Kit had intrigued me from the very first moment he showed up and the more layers that was revealed about him, the more I wanted to find out.

Aubrey, we met in the first book (Gloombringer) and he was such a sweetheart. Even though it was such a brief showing, he left an indelible mark in my memory so I was equally pleased and fascinated that he to be paired with the sarcastic Kit. 🤣🤣

Sure enough, these two started on the wrong foot and even though that is my least favourite type of relationship development, EVENTUALLY they managed to sort out their differences and ended up being surprisingly sweet with each other.

I wish we'd gotten more page time with them as a couple and gotten a more extensive epilogue of how things sorted themselves out after the crisis was averted.

That led to me bumping my review down by one star but aside that, I highly enjoyed this conclusion and I think aside my thoughts above, most people will be happy with it.

I’ve loved this series and am sad it’s finished. The world building is imaginative with the mix of contemporary/fantasy, and people bonding to stones which give them abilities. I thought this final book brought the series arc to a satisfying conclusion with a few twists, and all the HEAs.

Kit caught my eye from the moment he appeared on page in the first book. I loved reading from POV, and finding out about The Plan. I already knew he was way more than he appeared to be, and I enjoyed spending time with him – and Aubrey. Like all his siblings, Kit has been damaged by their awful mother, but is moving past that. I loved his banter with his stone. They’re perfectly matched.

Aubrey has come so far since his introduction in book 1. I liked how he hasn’t forgotten his upbringing, which gives another perspective to the families and their privilege. I loved the twist in the story with him finally bonding to his stone, and the consequences of that. He’s good for Kit too, and vice versa with their very different personalities.

I loved how everything and everyone comes together to save the world. I enjoyed catching up with characters from previous books, and the Moonstriker connection. I loved that Titiania finally got her HEA as well, and the sibling relationships between the Moonstrikers.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Moonstriker is the fourth and final book in Sam Burns’ Summertide Chronicles series. It takes place largely on and around Mt. Slate, the impending eruption of which has somewhat surreptitiously driven the whole series. Like all the previous installments, our two main characters share narration duties. Unlike the other couples, however, there is no secret pining for one another, so the reader gets to enjoy a bit of enemies-to-lovers trope. There’s also a whiff of moral ambiguity when one MC contemplates if he’s forcing another character to take action they otherwise may have remained ignorant of.

In general, I found the pacing and events in the story to fit in well with the world that has been constructed over the previous books. There is a constant, low key sense of urgency to gather the family heads–and the stones they have bonded with–to address the situation with the volcano. This book revealed a couple of key details, though.

A satisfying conclusion to a great series, even if the final couple was somewhat lackluster.

I loved this series, and this book was a solid ending for all of the characters from the previous books. As far as the series characters go, I would have liked to see a bit more of Rain and Adair, as they were one of my favorite couples (although I liked Caspian and Frost a bit more). The biggest let down for me was Kit and Aubrey’s relationship; neither of them were that likable and they didn’t work all that well for me as a couple.

When all was said and done, though, this was such an interesting and well-done series. The main through-line of the series, Mount Slate’s eruption and Kit’s actions to prevent catastrophe, worked well and provided a cohesive experience with distinct entries to the series.

I’ve read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy, and I have to say the idea of bonding with sentient stones was completely new to me (even though one of my favorite series was called “The Godstone Saga”, the main character didn’t really bond with stones, it was bonding with gods themselves). Anyway… I highly recommend reading the entirety of this series!

For a minute there, I almost thought Kit and Aubrey were two completely different characters than I had built them up to be and I was Big Mad, but nope... Just two silly geese who needed to get their shit together.

That definitely tracked. Silly geese-to-lovers. New trope name since the “I”-word isn’t a very nice word? We can workshop it.

And, aside from some wonky places, it was a great ending to the series, and I loved it for that. I could’ve easily handled more, too, because sometimes it almost felt like the story was rushing to end itself, and I wasn’t in the same hurry.

Also, ew. I didn’t get to see Fawn after the first bit and I’m not okay with that. She was one of the very best characters who deserved a proper send-off, and you cannot convince me I’m wrong.

4.25/5. Little messy, little abrupt, but still fucking fantastic and I will be refusing to accept the whole thing being over for a while if you need me. I for sure have an unhealthy desire to see a lot more stone-based “magic” and AUs that blend modern and almost Fae-like worlds. Truly phenomenal.

Moonstriker is the final book of this series! This is finally Kit story! In this book we really get to know Kit and everything he has to sacrifice to save everyone he loves, he has to be a duelist for a very despicable man. He and his stone Nikka have The Plan for him to fulfill. Aubrey is Oberon’ son, we get to know him in book 1, he grew up with his mother, he view himself as defective because he doesn’t have a stone, but know as adult he is ready for it and it going to be a big surprise!
At first Kit and Aubrey don’t seem to get along but is because some preconceived notion about each, but as they get closer they realize they were wrong about one another. Aubrey is having a hard time bonding with his stone and Kit is there for him, I like how things developed for them and for Aubrey and his bonding, I loved the world building in this series and that we get to watch the characters for the previous books together and getting all of them their HEAs! This was a another great read!

Moonstriker is the final book in The Summertide Chronicles series, and it ties up a lot of the loose ends. We re-meet Aubrey and get to know him more than we did in the first book and learn there's a lot more to him than we're led to believe. We get the explanation as to why he's "so bright" and why he's got so many ties all across their lands.

We learn more about Kit in each book and it comes to fruition in Moonstriker unsurprisingly. We find out all about "The Plan" that has been in motion since he was young and why he's done all the things he's done, why he thinks the way he thinks, etc.

Watching the slow burn between them as they go from disliking one another for various reasons to slowly falling for one another is so well told. And the way Slate gets handles by Aubrey is amusing! In all I loved the book and highly recommend!

I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.

This is okay. I like many things about it, and I thought the resolution of the entire quartet was pretty interesting. I also like both Kit and Aubrey (basically), but I felt like some of the aspects were just too unbelievable within the context of the world building. For instance:

Also, in the first book, we learn that Rain is bonded with the Moonstriker stone, yet his mom is still the one leading that group -- why? There were just too many inconsistencies for me; thus, this gets 3/5 stars rounded down.

I loved the way this series wrapped up with Kit and Aubrey working their way to the top of Mount Slate. Kit and Aubrey have the wrong impression of each other right from the start which then feeds into their dislike of the other. Only to have those misconceptions melt away as they get to know each other during the hike. I loved how Aubrey sees beneath Kit's mask and slowly starts to peel at Kit's low self worth in such a slow manor that Kit doesn't even realize how much he's come to care for Aubrey until it hits him like a freight train. These two are both super stubborn but have hearts of gold. Both are actually lonely and deal with that differently. But it was also nice that they realized that Slate was lonely too. This was a great conclusion to the series and I loved that all the Moonstrikers received their happy ending!

Moonstriker pulls the Summertide Chronicles to a breathtaking close; Mount Slate’s eruption, long-held secrets, and the final reckoning all converge in ways that feel both inevitable and surprising. Kit and Aubrey’s relationship moves from guarded misunderstandings to deeply mutual respect, the character discovery is just long enough to see that they have to work on things but not arduous to read knowing each other are actually working toward the same goal. Their flaws and pride giving weight to their eventual surrender to affection. The return of cameo characters feature prevalently and adds emotional richness, making the ending feel like it’s not just about two people but a found family across the four realms. It’s an excellent finale—stone-bonded, storm-rattled, and emotionally satisfying down to the last word.

This is book 4 and the conclusion for the Summertide Chronicles. This one features Kit and Aubrey. Kit was a duelist for 10 years for a despicable man. He did it because his stone Nikka said that was the way for The Plan. Aubrey discovered his father was Oberon who died in a past book. He grew up with his mother and was lonely when she passed. When Aunt Titania brought him to the chalet as Mount Slate was causing earthquakes, he met Kit. They both disliked each other at the beginning, but when they went for Aubrey to bond with Slate, they learned more of each other. I loved the world building in this series and finished beautifully. Cannot wait to read more from the author.

I have loved this series and all of these characters! Kit has been keeping secrets..but someone is about to see him for who he really is. If he will allow him that is. Aubrey is not comfortable in the world of privilege and power that comes with being the Duskbringer heir. He is a rock and the steady family force his Aunt Titania needs. I loved how all of this was tied up! Kit and Aubrey don’t have the best start but it doesn’t take long for them to see the real person behind the assumptions. All of these members of the ruling families have created their own large found family.

Kit and Aubrey were the definition of sarcastic and I found it completely humorous here! Kit has seemed secretive, and we really get to see that and some info here as we wrap up the series. I am not going to tell you about any of it though! I loved the whole "Duel" thing. I can honestly say I have never read about a Duelist before so enjoyed this unique perk. I enjoyed that these two were as stubborn as stubborn can be, and well pretty much still remained so, but I was able to really understand both of them. Fun and exciting series finale!

What was the whole point of the first three? The characters of those barely were in this one, and only as a supporting role. I didn't see how gloombringer, dawnchaser, and sunrunner contributed to moonstriker. It all came down to just one man. I was expecting a team effort to stop mount slate that would make everything worthwhile.

Also, there were so many men and pairings that I had to re-read every book to understand the dynamics that ended up not even necessary to know.

A huge disappointment to end.

I enjoyed this entire series, which has all lead up to the conclusion in Bk 4. Mount Slate is a volcano that has been rumbling and threatening to erupt, killing the entire populations in the four lands. This story focuses on the relationship between Kit and Aubrey. They start out not liking each other, but as they get to know each other in the quest to stop the end of the world, they realize they are well matched to each other. The saga of the sentient stones continues with some major surprised. I highly recommend the series!

Kit + Aubrey

Opposites attract?

I love the adventure here. The volcano is erupting, the guys get trapped, and they need to hike through injury and illness and somehow stop the mountain from killing everyone.

The romance, I don't get. Maybe we just don't get to know the guys enough? There's attraction, forced proximity, and mutual understanding.

The book ends with a happily ever after.

This excellent adventure is a terrific conclusion to a series I enjoyed immensely. Kit has been my favourite character throughout, so I was happy to see him get his HEA in this book with someone as cool as Aubrey. I really enjoyed the side characters, especially Titania, and there were a lot of original elements in this story. I won't give spoilers, you'll have to read it for yourself!

*spoilers*

My only complaint is that the whole Mount Slate situation has been talked about like a big deal for the four families in the other books, but... it really didn't matter for the families. I found myself thinking that The Plan™ should have just been for Kit to drag Aubrey up to Mount Slate and get it over with, and toward the end of the book it was just briefly mentioned that that wouldn't have worked because "he wouldn't have been ready" which just felt like a cop out tbh

Wonderful ending

This series was wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters, OMG KIT, were wonderful. The culmination of everything was good. You know how in some books you always expect something bad to happen before it becomes good, I'm glad these books were all about the happy and not the sad or bad. Really glad for that. Overall, really good series and a good recommendation.

Kit & Aubrey

Kit is a Moonstriker, he left their land young to become a duelist. Aubrey is a Duskbringer (Gloombringer). They meet when all the heads of the 4 lands in Summerland met to help soothe/control Slate the volcanic Mountain. What no one knows is that Kit has been preparing for it and knows that for everyone in Summerland us to survive is for Aubrey to bond with Slate. Aubrey and Kit have an interesting start but they fall in love fairly quickly. Other secrets etc are revealed too.

I loved this story and series and now that it’s complete I feel a re-read is in order.

I really loved this series and was so curious about Kit. and he even exceeded my expectations. I loved him.
Nevertheless, I was a bit frustrated at the beginning with Aubrey - but he redeemed himself.

the story was totally different than what I expected and I wished we would have seen more of the other couples as I loved those.

In all, I loved the book and the series

Great ending

The series has been building up towards Kit's story because he plays such an integral role.
He and Aubrey initially have some animosity between them due to preconceived misconceptions.
Eventually they realize they were both wrong.
I loved the snarky banter between them and how Aubrey was able to finally find his place with Kit.
