Sometimes being a fish out of water… Can be murder. When Eugenia Barkley made what she thought would be a temporary move from Los Angeles to a cabin in the Ozarks that she inherited from a mother she never knew, she hadn’t planned on not being able to decide whether or not she should sell the cabin.
The cozy cabin has her firmly in its warm and inviting grasp, but with winter coming, and the rest of the resort complex’s residents leaving for their permanent homes, those dearest to Eugenia advise her to leave.
Determined to discover more about her ultra-wealthy deceased mother, Eu stubbornly refuses to go, and is faced with being alone, aside from the eccentric local woman, Crappie Callie, who refuses to acknowledge her existence.
When the first snow comes, Eu is confident that she has everything she needs to survive for at least a few weeks and plans to supplement her food stash with fishing. It turns out that her situation becomes a bit more difficult than she’d imagined, and things only get worse when a murder victim is discovered near her favorite fishing spot.
Dealing with deputies who are convinced that she’s trouble with a capital T and trying to keep her chin up while living in near total isolation, Eu realizes that the only way she’ll be able to prove her innocence is by doing her own sleuthing and hoping that the real perpetrator doesn’t come after her in the process.
It’ll be a season to remember, as Eu struggles with solving a murder, surviving the winter, and dealing with the emotional impact of her quest to discover more about her mother and herself.
Can she bait the perpetrator and reel in a killer? Find out in this poignant Cozy Mystery!
Summer Prescott is well-known in the Cozy Mystery realm, having written and published several Best-Sellers in the genre. An avid reader of Thrillers, Horror and Suspense, the author has decided to follow her passion with the debut of her Thriller, The Quiet Type, which launched in the top 50 of the Serial Killer category on Amazon. The novel has received high praise in its reviews, and Summer is considering a possible trilogy or series to continue the story.
Precious. Well, after Eu discovered who the killer was (hint: it wasn’t Eugenia. Lol.) The parts I’m talking about that were precious were the parts when Eu found a few things from her mother. Oh ya, and there’s another really good part at the end and I can’t wait to read more about that!
I also liked the part when Eu and Murphy shared some time together. Eu kept her cool and it was hilarious what was said.
Unfortunately there was a murder, but fortunately that person was caught and in a very funny way.
Next is book 3 “Baited Breath”. Since I tend to crave edible items that are constantly talked about in the book I’m reading, from this series I’ve been craving fried fish. Luckily it isn’t chocolate like a series I read not too long ago. The main character owned a chocolate shop and for that entire month I stuffed my face with chocolate of every form. Lol.
I am really loving this series!!!! EU is feeling sad the resort is closing down for the winter ANF Michael has to go back for his classes.starting soon, being a professor. EU still hasn't gotten Callie to talk to her, but Callie did protect her when it counted. It's a start. EU went fishing the day Michael left, he left her his car to use since she is going to be alone and Trixie at the general store that also is closing up gave EU the last of the minnows and awhile bunch of perishable. Michael had stocked her up with baked goods that can be frozen. The next few days were lonely, then one morning all neck broke lose, with the police running to Eu's boat dock looking at a person that is not supposed to be there. Deputy Crater and Writman came knocking on her door. Suspect causes it is on her property. Now the investigation begins. Turns up several people had reasons and opportunities for the crime. Who? Now get the book to find out details!!!!!
Loving this new series by one of my favorite authors! Eu has decided to spend the winter at the cabin she inherited from her mom, but it is very lonely with most of the Islanders away who are only there in warm months. Trying to keep busy by working from home and learning more about the mother she never knew is filling up her days as well as trying fishing in very cold weather. But soon things take a sinister turn when a dead body is discovered near the docks and again Eu finds herself the chief suspect. Fighting against incompetent police she decides once again that in order to clear her name she must take matters into her own hands.
Fast paced, well written with interesting finely drawn characters it was enjoyable and entertaining. I am looking forward to more books in this series. Kudos to the author! 🎉🎉👏👏🌟🌟💞
Eu found herself in a nice kettle of fish, pun definitely intended there, when a murder hit the area and the two pesky deputies were once again hounding her and attempting to pin something on her. Carter was actually not so bad, he was for sure the good cop of the duo. The other deputy made Darth Vader look like a good guy! I was kinda sad for Eu when her buddy Michael left. Fran kept teasing her that she should let him know how she feels, but it did come in really handy that they’d been in contact about the case.
The showdown was a good one in typical Eu fashion, not quite as epic as the one in book one but still worthy of Eu’s personality. I sure wish Michael could teach remotely all year so he could stay there at the resort, but who knows what’s gonna shake out? I can’t wait for the next book!
Eugenia is once again in the police crosshairs as she tries to figure out who killed a local DJ. Someone is out to get her and pin it on her. She and one other person are the only two staying the winter at the lake and that person won’t speak to her. Can she figure it out before the police arrest her for something she didn’t do? This was so good. I love how Michael and Trish made sure she had everything she needed for the winter. This time around the killer was who I least expected and a surprise ally comes to her rescue.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by the publisher.
Eugenia is slowly settling in her cabn. As the weather starts to get colder her neighbors start fleeing to their permanent homes. She starts to research her dead mom’s life and what lead her to buy the cabin but only one eccentric woman clams ro know her. Snow starts to make food trips minimum as she found a fishing spot to supplement her food source. Soon the fishing spot becomes a crime spot when a murdered body is found. It is ine fishy mystery to be solved.
I have read both the first and the second books in this series. I hope Summer goes a long time with this one. It's great.
In this one, Eu is still looking for more information about her mother and why she left the cabin to her. In the meantime, there is a murder at the marina and naturally the cops again find Eu to be the only suspect. She must find the killer before they arrest her.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is book two in what is shaping up to be a fun and interesting series. The story is well written with a well plotted mystery. The characters are dynamic and have some interesting personalities. Perfect book for curing up in a chair and getting lost in the story.
Another catchy story from a master of them. She nets us a quite a fish tail this time. Despite a series of fishy decisions Eugenia reels in another killer. I'm hooked on this series.
