Not a mafia story nor is it dark
Ruby and Harry have a meet cute at the ice rink where she's actually supposed to be trying to catch the eye of his best friend- movie star. She eventually goes on a date with his friend but it all ends in a tragedy that brings Ruby and Harry together
It's a whirlwind affair, two young people in love but her mother and his father are against the relationship and doing their best to keep them apart.
I liked the story and I was enjoying the romance, it was actually quite hot 🌶 too but then the story got convoluted.
The author lost me around the 80% mark with the fact that the two families have been entangled for 13 years, the reason why the parents are trying to keep them apart.
There is no reasonable explanation or justification for all that's happening. It's hinted Graham had his first stroke due to the affair between Celia and Harry's dad but it doesn't give any details. It doesn't explain why Celia poisoned him mom, you can only assume she wanted Harry's dad, yet she never got together with him (supposedly because of Graham's stroke). It's not explained why she poisoned Ruby, again you have to assume it's to keep her from Harry but that seems extreme. I have to posit that the reason was to eventually link arsenic to his mom's death. Then all of a sudden, Harry is linked to the mafia as the next Mafia boss. Ahm, where was this all along? Also there's nothing in his demeanor to hint at a mafia boss. Soft as butter and utterly captivated with Ruby, mafia he is not. I guess this was just to tie in to the series

Three things I really loved about this book:
1) sweet adorable Harry’s undeniable, unwavering (well maybe for a bit) love for Ruby…book boyfriend extraordinaire
2) Ruby’s dad Graham Jackson and his scene with Harry…Sage advisor award
3) the mysteries behind the love story and the major one is what sets this book apart from just another whirlwind love story
Three things I didn’t quite love about this book:
1) some of the less believable circumstances like Harry being able to carry Ruby and perform other tasks so well with an arm in a cast
2) the storyline seemed to drag a bit in the middle
3) title of the book implies more of a mafia story but the ties to the mafia are just briefly mentioned and although I could go along with “forbidden vows”, I never saw anything “dark” in their vows.
Why I would recommend this book:
1) see the three things I loved about the book
2) even with the three things I didn’t quite love about this book all three were minor compared to the overall quality of the storyline, the well developed characters and a delightful love story that travels from New York to Chicago and even to Scotland. I loved their adventures in Scotland.
3) but especially because it’s a full length romance with a romantic hero who knows that he wants Ruby as his wife from the beginning and he’s determined to make her see that he’s serious and not giving up and he’s not letting anyone stop him after the first competition is eliminated although unfortunately not in a very pleasant way. Plus the book offers a mystery of a missing sister, the intrigue of a possible Mafia connection and an unbelievable plot of murder/attempted murder.

Sweet love story but nor ruthless, dark or mafia…
I gave this story a 3.5 rating because it was mafia light, not dark at all, and definitely not ruthless. The premise is basic- boy and girl meet-cute. They “connect” and of course he wants to marry her. Her mother wants her to marry a rich man. It’s not until later in the story that the reader learns the backstory to the mother’s machinations. The story winds around half-realized sub plots involving an apparent suicide of an actor, an apparent murder from many years ago, a current murder attempt, infidelity (not the main characters) and the list goes on. Throw all these sub plots in with the laughable idea that MMC is a future mafia boss and you have a hot mess. The MMC actually set up his best friend with this woman he had immediate “I’m going to marry her” feelings for. He is not decisive, not dominant and clearly doesn’t mind sharing. Doesn’t sound like a mafia prince. The moments we read about his business acumen also suggest a junior exec and not the “ruthless billionaire” of the series title. All that said, the love story between the two mains is sweet and they end up with their HEA. The MMC is actually a loving, decent and thoughtful man. The FMC is somewhat undefined. She’s nice but clueless. A more interesting book would center on the FMC’s mother’s backstory. In my opinion, that would indeed be a ruthless and dark, dark, dark tale.

Oh my gosh! You know that feeling when you pick up a book by a favorite author and you know it’s going to be good, but then it’s even better? Well, this one by Vivy Skys is even better!
She gives her readers the very best in storytelling while incorporating beautifully written characters that are multifaceted and compelling. Their relationships are layered with emotion and conflict that resonate with authenticity.
Vivy Skys delivered a plot that was original and ticked all the boxes:

✅ Unexpected twists and turns
✅ Shocking surprises revealed
✅ Interesting plot line
✅ Family drama
✅ Deep emotions

I appreciate it when an author can diversify her writing and expand to a variety of different tropes. Set in 1987, the story sets itself apart with its unique and engaging storyline. I loved how this book unfolded, with pacing that really kept me turning the pages.

Ruby's mom wants her to marry rich and so when she shows up at the skating rink where Ruby works she knows something is up. Harry is there to celebrate his best friends birthday when he trips over the most beautiful girl. But then he sees her with his friend and he knows his friend is richer, more handsome and way more important so he stays back.
But when the party moves to the hotel pool he decides to be nice and offer her a ride home. Then he helps his friend set up the perfect date with Ruby. But when he shows up the next day wanting to go to an amusement park in the snow he should know something happened. And that is confirmed when he starts drinking and gets into a fight.
When Harry gets in the car to try and convince his friend not to take off it backfires. They get in an accident. And when he wake up in the hospital with Ruby sitting next to his bed he knows she is the one he will marry. But her mom and his dad are set to keep them apart. Even going to far as to send the cops after them.

Ruby was always in her books. She worked at the library.. I can’t remember if she worked at the ice ring, as she was there and she met Harry and his friend that was so obnoxious.. Her mother wanted her get involved with the wild friend. .She went on a date with the wild friend , but it didn’t work out.
Later on there was an accident. Harry was hurt and his friend died. She would go visit him in the hospital. They got snowed in.. He ask her to marry him, but she thought it was the medicine and shrugged him off. He told her he worked in fuel. Her mother doesn’t want them to be involved so she stops them every way she can..Harry takes her on a whirlwind mini vacation the Scotland She didn’t ask about his money. She just goes.. There becomes a pull and tug between her mother, she follows him everywhere. They go to New York cause that’s where he works. They end up taking her father with them because he had had a stroke and she found out layer that it might’ve been her mom‘s fault.

Forbidden Dark Vows was such a whirlwind! This was my first time reading this author, and I’m already excited to check out more of their work. I went in expecting a typical mafia romance but was completely surprised by the twists and turns this story delivered. Ruby and Harry's relationship is far from smooth—it's filled with family drama, long-buried secrets, and even life-threatening danger. But through it all, their connection felt genuine and deeply emotional.
I loved Harry as a character. He was protective and very confident in himself. Ruby’s struggle to find her voice against her manipulative mother was frustrating at times, but it made her journey toward independence all the more rewarding. If you’re looking for a romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat and give you all the feels, this one’s a must-read!

Ruby and her family had lived the great life until the stress got to her dad and he had a stroke. This left him unable to work and he had to sell his business. Ruby had 3 part time jobs to help out with the bills and her mom is a hair dresser. Ruby works at the ice skating rink, a dog walker and at the library. While working at the ice skating rink a movie star and others showed up. Ruby's mom wanted her to get on the ice and mingle with him and maybe marry him. Instead Ruby bends over to tie her skate and a man, Harry, runs into her and does a flip over her and lands on his back. There is so much that happens in this book and /ruby ends up going to Scotland and falls in love. Vivy Skys is a great writer. Good read.

OMG 😱 this story was captivating and entertaining. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was intense. I was hooked and I on the verge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down and the book cover caught my attention and he was eye candy. Ruby and Harry romance was forbidden love affair. It was a lot of dark secrets and it was intriguing with passion and romance. The connection was extraordinary of powerful and dramatic elements of lies. They couldn’t fight the temptation and was she falling in love with him as she was a hard working woman whom had three different jobs. Could he make her dreams come true after all the pain and lies.

This book was full of so much drama and adventure (both good and bad). There was mystery and intrigue mixed in with Harry and Ruby's attempt to find happiness together, as well as multiple forces working against them. Their respective parents were quite the piece of work, and wove an intricately twisted web. Her dad though, Graham, was amazing. His unwavering support of Ruby was truly a beacon of light for her amidst the muck and mire her mother was forcing upon her. It's amazing how some people can't allow for others to find happiness, especially while their's remains out of reach.

Such an absolutely sweet and lovely story. Just enough intrigue, twists and turns. For as wonderful as the couple is, gotta have that horrible one as well and she is there in all her glory.
So much I would like to say, but I don’t want to give away spoilers.
I’m guessing the dark in the title has to do with relation to the mention of mafia and future mafia boss, but it’s really just glossed over. There are a lot of things glossed over that could have brought a lot more to the story, but it would have been a really long book and ultimately isn’t that big of a deal.
This book has a lot of heartbreak to it, but overall is really sweet and has a great ending that leaves you feeling complete. Harry, Ruby and her daughter are wonderful people and they make an amazing couple.

Forbidden Dark Vows follows the journey of Harry and Ruby. I absolutely adored getting to know both Harry and Ruby as well as seeing their amazing story unfolding throughout the book. I didn’t even want to set this book down until I read the last page. I was completely captivated from beginning to end. Forbidden Dark Vows has a captivating plot, wonderful characters and a breathtaking outcome for the main characters. This book is phenomenally written, well balanced and beautifully executed by Vivy Skys. Vivy Skys continues to show what an incredible author, storyteller and writer she is with each book that I have read by her so far. I’m looking forward to reading more amazing romances from this fantastic author. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading dark billionaire romances.

January 25, 2025Harry and Ruby. There is so much going on in this book I dont even know where to begin. The beginning leads to so many things happening. There are so many lies. So so many secrets. Parents keeping secrets. Angry parents trying to keep them apart. Missing siblings. Their parents are entwined in their own personal lives that could keep them apart. So many twists and turns. Misunderstandings. I cant say enough about this book. I couldnt put it down I had to know what was going to happen next. Who was going to make more waves and when the truth would finally come out. Stalking. Was a great read. This is a thriller. A suspense and mystery. Haunting. Coverups. OMG you have to read this book.

Ruby’s family business 13 years ago was bankrupt and after her father had a stroke.so she had to work for the bills and help her mum to take care of her dad.
Her mother dreams that her daughter marry a billionaire so she can live and spend money on expensive clothes.
One day she knew that a celebrity is going to come at her daughter work so she pushed her to know him.
While she was bending to fasten the lace of one of her boot which has came undone someone knees her in the side and performed a somersault over top of her,
The guy was nice and he was also a friend of the celebrity.

Celia is so evil that she will stop at nothing to part Ruby and Harry and that includes.

Setting the police on them when they run away.
Eventually poisoning Ruby, not fatally.

Loved it! Great heart warming dramatic romance.
When Ruby meets Harry Weiss at the skate Park she works at she doesn't realise what events are set in motion.
I loved Harry. He was warm, real but also protective and knew what he wanted. But that connection was there from the first meeting at the skate Park. But grew in the hospital. Although there were forced trying to keep them apart.
Very well done it was a real pleasure to read this book. A first by this Author for me but I'm looking forward to more. The writing style was easy read and the characters were really likable.

I expected more darkness for a Mafia romance but the Mafia part wasn't even really brought up. It was kind of an aside to the whole story. It was more of a meet-cute and nice romance story. There were dramatic part but even those were kind of glossed over. The romance part was the major part of the book. A couple of things really made no sense, like why would the police in a different country even try to locate an adult who had done no wrong. The death of the MMC's mother was brought in like a red herring but not really part of the plot. I still recommend this book as a sweet romance.

You couldn't tell by the way he carried himself and being around him that he was a millionaire. She worked hard to supply her parents. But there was Something unusual about her mother. Robie was 21, but her mom took control of her entire life. Only wanting her to date men with money. Not knowing Harry was a rich man, Rubbie fell for Harry because he was a nice person and didn't act like his rich friend. Thing where starting to happen that did not make sense. Until thing started to unravel.
Good suspense. I felt no endearment in their relationship. What happened to Melanie? Why was there no in site about her.

Forbidden Dark Vows is completely consuming! This is one of those books that you have to read "one more page" and that page just keeps turning until you've hit the end and you've spent all night reading. Harry and Ruby are complete perfection and once they get passed all the little roadblocks and mess that their families keep throwing out there they really have a beautiful story. Their past is twined together and is tragic and dark but the growth between them in spite of all the lies, manipulation and betrayals is remarkable. An absolutely fantastic story.

This is Book 2 in the Ruthless Billionaire Mafia Kings Series by this author, and can be read as a standalone. It is a dark mafia romance between Ruby and Harry. These two flawed souls and the unique plot make for a captivating read. It is a love story filled with drama, lies, deceit, suspense, passion, secrets, twists and turns, plus engaging secondary characters. The chemistry between the main characters is combustible and the connection is strong. An emotional page turner.

A delightful Mafia story. From the first sight Ruby and Harry know that they are the one for each other. While they discover their feelings for each other they are thwarted from all sides by people who would rather not see them together, like her parents. They experience obstacles, danger, betrayal, romance, drama and a lot of steam. Will they make it together and get a hea or will the other people succeed in driving them apart for good?

Wow, this book had it all, with intrigue, romance and suspense. Liked how these characters were tied together unknowingly with their pasts and how it could affect their future together. This book really pulls you in, with so much happening with the characters and the involvement with the supporting characters as well. The development of this storyline by the author is well done and the ending for the characters is well deserved.

Back to the 80’s
It took me a while into this book to realize it was taking place in the 1980’s. I enjoyed the juicy moments, twists and turns. Watching Harry fall head over heels for Ruby was so sweet. Instant husband behavior from the beginning.
The plot was not shy of scandals and kept me wondering where everything was headed. Vivy Skys has delivered on that once again. I would rate this book a 3.75 because I still had questions once things were said and done.

"Forbidden Dark Vows: A Forced Proximity Billionaire Dark Romance"the title sounds so promising but lacks all the parts the FORBIDDEN part was a bit ridiculous with their parents it had SO many plot holes and the what the? The plot was boring and It left me thinking I was reading a first book by a teenager. FORCED em when? she wasn't forced to be near him at any point. DARK hell no nothing in here is really dark its so mild thus boring. I struggled to keep with this I kept hoping it would get better nothing felt exciting and I won't be bothering with the rest
