As the thrill of the Iditarod turns deadly with a string of unexplained disappearances, FBI Agent Sadie Price finds herself in a high-stakes pursuit across treacherous ice and snow. She must decipher clues as fleeting as footprints in a blizzard, all while an unseen assassin slides silently between the sled teams, drawing ever closer.

Only Darkness by Rylie Dark has a cool atmosphere to it. The whole thing takes place in Alaska during a sled-dog race, and that alone gives the story this cold, tense, isolated energy. It’s not just “catch the killer,” it’s “catch the killer cut off from the world.” I liked that part a lot — the setting feels like part of the danger. The main character, Sadie Price, has history in Alaska and some emotional stuff she hasn’t dealt with, so coming back there hits pretty hard. That part makes the story more interesting than just a crime chase. And the pacing is fast — you fly through it. But I will say this straight- the editing is rough. There are spelling mistakes, names spelled missing words here and there. It’s noticeable. If that kind of thing annoys you, it can pull you out of the moment sometimes. Also, a few parts stretch realism — you kind of have to just roll with it and not think too hard about the details. And because this is book 7 in the series, there are a few character moments that land better if you've read the earlier ones. Not required, but you can feel it. Though? The story itself is fun to read. The tension is there. The setting is great. It’s one of those books you pick up when you want something fast, dramatic, and a little intense — not something deep or super polished. If I had to give it a rating, I’d say around 3.5 – 4 stars. Good for when you want a thriller you can sink into without overthinking.
Once again our herione loses her gun. The spelling is atrocious. Names spelled differently on the same page. Quitter' used where "quieter" should have been. Missing words in some sentences left you guessing what the sentence was supposed to say. The book starts and ends with a hook to the missing sister. Frankly I'll never buy another book in this series.
