While Syrenna and Naji navigate life in the dark, will outside forces reveal their love, or will they forever have stolen moments to cling to?
"Impermissible Love" by Aubree Pynn weaves a captivating tale of forbidden romance between Syrenna and Naji. Syrenna, committed to building a life away from the LeFleur dynasty, finds herself entangled in emotions she vowed to avoid. Pynn skillfully explores the tension between love and ambition, creating a complex protagonist in Syrenna. Naji Mikells, driven by family loyalty, adds depth to the narrative. Pynn portrays his struggles to balance familial obligations and personal desires with nuance. The chemistry between Syrenna and Naji is palpable, enhancing the emotional stakes as they navigate the clandestine nature of their relationship. The plot unfolds seamlessly, blending Syrenna's pursuit of success and Naji's commitment to family. The forbidden love angle adds intrigue, keeping readers invested in the characters' fates. The suspense built in this book left me eager to figure out what would happen to not only the lead characters but characters like Jaq. Jaq was by far one of my least favourite characters in this book he was so stubborn. That boy needs a whooping. My favourite supporting characters are the sisters. They added comedic relief. The story benefits from comedic relief, injecting moments of lightness into the tension-laden narrative. The humor serves as a counterbalance to the forbidden love theme, offering readers moments of respite and emotional release. Aubree strategically employs comedic elements to enhance the overall storytelling experience. The comedic relief provided a breath of fresh air, preventing the story from becoming overly melodramatic. It adds layers to the characters, showcasing their ability to find joy amidst challenging circumstances. This not only makes the characters more relatable but also allowed me as a reader to connect with them on a deeper level. And then there's Xavier I wanted that man to be out of there at chapter 2. One thing I love about Aubree is she knows how to make you hate a character. Xavier was so obnoxious omg. He worked my nerves the entire book. Then there's the Don I personally thought it was unfair for her father to want her to stop her life to be a Queenpin and let's not forget how he killed a pass lover of hers which is why she was so afraid to tell him about Naji. She wanted to be different even though she was born into it and he wasn't having it at first. However I'm very happened he tightened up I was stretched there for a minute. The exploration of societal expectations and the consequences of defying them also adds depth to the narrative. Pynn masterfully captures the challenges faced by Syrenna and Naji, creating a thought-provoking commentary on love and societal norms This story is a compelling read that skillfully balances romance, familial obligations, and societal expectations. Pynn's vivid storytelling and well-developed characters make this novel a standout in the realm of forbidden love tales. Kudos to you Aubree. thee_book_connoisseur_
Because I defintely got it twisted. I expected Urban Fic but this is more of Urban Suspense. I started this book knowing it was about the Don's daughter. I just knew we were going to have Black Mafia-isms, which are usually wrapped in Urban Romance/Fiction details like violence, crime, seeing people get got, and a slew of other things.
“You’re not getting it through that pretty little head of yours, Sweetheart. You were made for me. You’re mine. I’m yours. That’s it. No fight, no debate.”
#ProtectorMMC #WetThatBeardUp Here we have Naji, the bald-headed, deep-complexed, bearded man having Distro. He comes bearing gifts: two brothers and a one-foot-in/one-foot-out manner. Personally, the "top dog wanting to retire from the biz to become a legit businessman" trope isn't my fav in the Urban Fic/Mafia sub-genres, but I don't mind depending on the author. Naji was definitely that dude. Reading the twists and some small turns had me biting my nails and on the edge of my seat.
“Because if you part from me now, you’ll be responsible for my demise, Syrenna.
#PrettyPrincess #SweetheartGangsta Syrenna "Put a Hot One in Dem" LeFleur was indeed that bish. A princess I liked that she was hard, but she had a penchant for building up her community and using her resources for good. The Don putting in his proclamation: "I want to retire. Step down from the game and give it to you," actually had me a little giddy. LIke ohhh kay. That's nice: the Distro trying to get out, and the streets' whip-smart, gun-toting Don-nette getting it in, but that isn't quite what happens.
Imprinted and entangled, rules be damned, the princess and the forbidden were tied together forever.
#UrbanIsAsUrbanDoes They both lament being in the streets, getting dirty, and the stress from street life. They both talk about how leaving the game is their only next step. They both don't truly want more bodies on their hands. I'm a little irritated. I want street justice, I want violence, I want to see snakes get ripped apart. I want to see the retribution unfold after reading about the villains. We didn't even get closure on the bomb drop...the Don has another child, an out-of-wedlock son younger than Syrenna but older than Mia. We never see how that was resolved after his betrayal was unearthed. We also didn't get to see how the treacherous street business partners were handled. Naji wasted a perfectly good murder murder kill kill suit of black hoodie + black sweatpants for nothing! A gangsta in his "handling it" gear not handling it. Ugh. We didn't see him move in action. I wanted to see Xavier coke head, getting high on his own supply, head ass explode or something. I wanted the major snakey snakey number 2 right-hand to lose some limbs or something. How Jaq's twist was handled also bothered me. It all felt really "ain't we forgiving," and it didn't allow the angst or danger to breathe.
Overall True consequences just didn't feel tangible. Instead, it felt like everything was being quickly solved and patched up for the feel-good ending. The writing, as always from AP, is clipped, tight, and good. The smex scenes are humming and bumping; little twists are enough to get you keyed up. I was just looking for a spot with more grit.

Naji and Serena was definitely a force and had the chemistry that would make you smile!!!…She was not going to cave for him!!!…She said she needed a man that was going to love her, make her feel safe and honest and she would submit!!!… Don was sitting in the cut watching everything fall in place while others thought they were playing under the radar!!!… I was hot that Draco and Xavier were playing and constantly sending Jaq out on those dummy missions because he was so desperate to live a life that looked good, while watching it from the safety of Naji’s protection!!!…Jaq learned real quick!!!… This was a really good book and I’m looking fwd to seeing what happens with the other 2 sisters!!!…I loved their bond and relationship!!!…Even when they were fighting, they were showing up for each other!!!… Momma was not playing about her girls either!!!…She loved them and wanting to see them spread their wings, but also know that momma is here when and if you needed her!!!…
Naji wants out of the game but into Syrenna. Because she was raised like a first born son, instead of the delicate flower her father processes her to be, Syreena is a runner from love and threatens to shoot her way out of it at every turn. The heart wants what the heart wants though. This book was full of a little of a lot. Love, lust, drama, unaliving, lies, deceit, but also highlights a beautiful sister bond and a mother who will go to war - even with the don, about her girls. I loved that. I didn't read any of the other books related to this family prior to this one but I was able to still follow without any issue. There were quite a few errors which is always frustrating, but overall, I enjoyed these characters and how the author progressed their story.
Syrenna is the oldest daughter of the Don. She is not interested in men, she is focused on her goal to bring light to her community that her dad is in the process of retiring from. Naji is the oldest Mikells’ brother. He is the “father” figure to his brother since his dad left and chose the streets over his family. Naji is on a mission to retire from the streets. After running into each other at Syrenna’s families’ establishment, Naji is hooked! Syreena tries her best to put up a hard front, but her walls went tumbling down after one date. There are plenty of snakes in the grass and they were slowly slain. Side note: I love AP’s trigger warnings.

Impermissible Love is one of my favorites. Syrenna is so guarded and does everything she can to not fall in love for fear of the unknown. Naji on the other hand is more focused on how to get out of the game so he can build the family that he wants. The only thing missing is the woman who would own his heart. When Naji and Syreena cross paths, it is nothing but the unexpected as Naji pursues Syreena and Syreena attempts to fight her soul connection.
This was yet another good story by AP. Naji and Syrenna had me locked in from the beginning. I loved her take no mess attitude even though sometimes she directed it at the wrong people at times. I also loved how Naji knew he wanted her from the beginning and didn’t let her attitude throw him off his goal of making her his. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
Syrenna and Naji were too stubborn to let each other go but needed what the other had. Naji applied the pressure that eventually lead to Syrenna undoing.
Naji handling his business with his family and the Don like a man made him the man’s man. Syrenna being the shooter she was kept her man’s mind and heart at ease.
4.5 ⭐️ naji and syrenna were so cute. syrenna was a hard woman who needed a man to make her feel safe, seen, loved, secure and allow her to be soft and that is exactly who naji was. naji was the embodiment of a real man he didn’t lie, he always kept his word, he was a provider but he also needed someone to make him feel safe, loved, seen and that’s exactly who syrenna was for him.
Aubrey Pynn brings it EVERY TIME!! This series is no exception. Baby Naji is a man of ACTION from beginning to end when it comes to his business and most especially to Syrenna!! This book is so damn good!!
Their story felt like “you had me at hello” with a twist. Xavier was super annoying, and that was definitely his downfall. I love how Naji loved her so well that she was able to put her guard down and was able to live a soft life with one relationship. I love how Serena‘s mom was able to check her dad and he fell in line. Aubree Pynn pen game is unmatched
Listen… this was my first Aubreè read and babyyyy, consider me a fan for life!
Naji wanna leave the streets alone but can’t keep his eyes—or his heart—off Syrenna. And Syrenna? Whew. She was raised like the first-born son, not the delicate little flower she looks like or like her father likes to pretend she is. Sis is out here duckin’ and dodgin’ love like it's gunfire, ready to shoot her way out of anything that sirs feelings or seems too real. But you know how it goes—the heart gon’ heart regardless.
This book had everything! A little love, a little lust, whole lotta drama, some unaliving (yup), betrayal, secrets on secrets… but what really hit was the sisterhood vibe and that ride-or-die mama who would throw hands with anybody, even the Don, for her daughters. I was HERE for all of it.
Now, I didn’t read the other books tied to this fam before jumping in, honestly I didn't check to see...the cover is what snagged my attention but it still flowed smooth for me. Only thing? There were a few typos here and there that had me side-eyein’, but it didn’t kill the overall vibe. I rocked with the characters and loved how Aubreè brought their story to life. I'm definitely tryna see what else she got cookin’.
