You never know when you’re going to meet Mr. Right. It could be on your worst day, thirty-five thousand feet in the air.
Heaven
With Christmas just around the corner, now might not be the best time to strike out on my own, but when my job offers me a paid internship in the US, how can I say no? Orphaned since the age of sixteen, being part of a family is all I dream of. To once again feel safe and cherished and for someone to understand my disability.
Does such a man even exist? And if so, am I too old at nineteen to believe in Christmas miracles?
Mason
My plans to spend Christmas in the UK fell through when I was called back home for my mother’s accident. From there, one disaster led to the next. It seemed the only thing that could turn my day around was the delightful young man seated next to me on the plane.
With a name like Heaven Leigh, he must have been sent from above.
Christmas in Heaven is a low-angst, age gap holiday meet-cute romance with grumpy/sunshine MCs, a dash of forced proximity and hurt/comfort, British banter, first times, and a fluffy golden retriever.
Oh, I like it very much. The characters are super adorable, the story is light and fluffy with a little touch of tragedy and it's beautifully written. Very very well done for a debut.
Heaven and Mason meet on the plane and have instant chemistry. Mason with his terrible sweater that sends Heaven into a laughing fit, Mason tickling him just like that, even though they are strangers. Of course Mason has to offer Heaven a roof over his head and of course just before Christmas with lots of snow and all that wonderful sweetness.
cute: “Oh em gee, it's snowing,” he squeals, clasping his hands together. “In England, we only ever get a good slush. I can't wait to see real thick snow!” He beams. “Promise we can make snow angels, please, Mason?” I chuckle and grab his hand again. “I promise.” There’s nothing I’ll deny this precious being next to me. 🤗🤗🤗
possessive: He belongs to me. The idea of Heaven smiling at someone else like this makes me sick to my stomach. Those fucking smiles belong to me. Only me. 🫠🫠🫠
cheesy: “I…I was sleepwalking through life and then there was you. My Evvie. And now I don’t wanna go to sleep at night because I’m afraid it’s all just a dream.” 😍😍😍
hot: “I want you to fuck me up against this door. Hard and fast. I don't want you to stop until we’ve both come our brains out.” 😳😳😳
smutty: “I love feeling you strangling my cock, baby. I love that no one else has had you this way. That your body will forever be primed for my cock. Why’s that, Evvie?” He demands. “Because it’s yours,” I whimper. 🤤🤤🤤
For me actually, because I'm a bit crazy, the scene when Heaven makes Mason beans on toast is the very best scene. It made me laugh so hard and now I have an insane craving.
I have one tiny point of criticism, but it's not meant to be negative, because as it turned out, this little annoyance turned into something good in the end: well, there is perhaps a tiny bit of obsession with detail in the writing style. I thought at first, why do I care about a minor character's clothes in detail, I want to get on with the plot. As I said, this is something that might be annoying. BUT: I think the writing style created a very relaxed atmosphere. The story is insta and that can sometimes be problematic if it doesn't come across as believable. But the book creates such a pleasant harmony while reading that it's not noticeable that the characters have only just met. For the reader, too, it feels as if you've known them forever. And I think that's because of this obsession with detail. So, not a negative criticism, but rather an expression of admiration that the book has managed to sneak up on me like this.
Emma, I hope you plan to keep writing, I would love to read more of your work in the future. 💞
Rating: 4 stars (8/10) Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: boss x employee, age gap, holiday meet-cute, virgin MC, instalove Review: I'm very glad we got the titular moment, where he literally spent Christmas *in* Heaven 🤭😉 This was a really sweet read, definitely instalovey, but it was also sweet to see how they brought out the best in each other, and for Heaven to really have that childlike wonder around Christmas. And also the spice was lovely too. The meet-cute in this was very unique and I loved seeing how things progressed for them.
Most Christmas romances are insta-lust / insta-love and sugary sweet. I do enjoy a nice Hallmark-esque m/m Christmas treat from time to time! This one, however, wasn’t really the book for me. The attraction was too immediate and the “pet names” were annoying. Even Mason’s mom was ridiculous with her telling Heaven that he was a part of the family and welcome back any time… like within an hour of meeting him. There were other things that weren’t things that interest me that I won’t go into detail about. Maybe it wasn’t the book, maybe it was me… but this one just wasn’t for me. Two stars.
What a great, feel-good holiday read! I loved Heaven and Mason. They were just so cute and perfect for each other. I really enjoyed their journey to their HEA. Lots of feels! Definitely recommend!
I was lucky enough to have the chance to help shape this book into a polished diamond. From the inception in E.L.’s bath, to the co-write with A.E. Jensen, to the formatting by Jen Samson. I’ve watched Heaven find his well-deserved, sweet, and spicy HEA. I can’t wait to see what other plot BUNNIES are hopping around E.L.’s head. Christmas in Heaven E.L Ough A.E. Jensen
I love A E Jensen’s stories, so full of emotion that squeeze my heart. With this collaborator, E.L.Ough, the story is just as full-on emotional, but of a much warmer, softer temperature. Still plenty of heat and steam, right from take-off. (Yep, pun)
Heaven Leigh, a young (19) Englishman still coping with the death of his parents 3 years ago in a car crash. Having been in Foster care till he aged out, he was living in a shelter of sorts.
Sarah, the manager had a soft spot for him especially as he was also coping with a disability, dysgraphia, an inability to read words. He’s been helping out at the Shelter with the younger kids and now Sarah has found an internship to get him into the workforce.
When he finds out that it’s in America he panics and wonders if he can leave the only place he feels like home. He feels a lot better about it when he hears exactly what will be involved, he’ll be helping people like himself. The company develops software to help people with disabilities of various kinds.
Mason (30) is visiting UK to visit his business partner and his family for Christmas. He’s barely landed when he gets a call from his mother’s neighbour, his mother had fallen off a ladder and damaged her leg. That was just one of the disasters that happened to him over the next few hours.
Not even staying for a night in UK, he plonks down in his seat on the plane. Not the two seats he had booked originally. Then he noticed the young man in the window seat.
One of Mason’s disasters has him wearing a horrendous Christmas Sweater and every time he moves a tiny bell jingles, loudly. This becomes an icebreaker that eventually has both Mason and Heaven enjoying their flight together. They discovered that Mason is the Boss where Heaven will be interning.
On landing, another disaster enfolds, the accommodations for Mason’s workers has been flooded and they had to evacuate everyone. So, Mason offers a place to Heaven at his family home for the Christmas festivities.
Well, Happy Christmas it was, with Vanessa, Mason’s Mum helping along the Christmas Spirit.
This book was balm on my heart and soul today, I needed it, it made me feel put back together again. The MC’s are both Christmas Presents to us readers, adorable, no angsty ness.
I’ve not read anything by E.L.Ough yet but I’ll soon remedy that if I can find a solo effort from her.
I wonder if she liked the music of ELO, a group from way back, (Electric Light Orchestra).
‘Christmas in Heaven’ can be read in a few hours and leave you feeling warm and cozy for much longer afterwards. Loved it.
"It feels like he belongs there. Like he’s always belonged there. Fuck, it does. Like my body was always shaped that way, just waiting for Heaven to come along and wrap himself around me."
I knew before going into this book that I would love it...because one, @emmareads40 is my spirit animal and two my favorite writer of dirty talk, @anjalovesbooks was involved..this being @emmareads40 debut book she did such an AH-MAZING job...she brought me two of my favorite guilty pleasures wrapped up together so beautifully..in an age gap, instalove story...
Heaven, him and his precious self...was just so easy to fall in love with..and when he mentioned he was #TeamGordy...I was like here just take my heart...he may have been 19 years old but he was wise beyond his years..from losing his parents only 3 years before and really not having anyone there he had to take the role of taking care of himself..but he still had those childlike moments that popped up..but gah,.when he did it was so freaking endearing...
Mason, who truly had reasons of being grumpy at the first of the book..cause Lord knows i would have been grumpy right along with him..😂..but we were able to see his true heart open up on that plane sitting beside the young man who would change his ways of thinking of love and relationships..and in turn he gave Heaven back some of what he lost, love and a family..
This novella is about first times and love finding you in the most strangest of places...that even though bad things comes in 3's or even more..but happiness is right around the corner...of giving your heart a chance to love and give love...
Thank you so much @emmareads40 and @anjalovesbooks for the opportunity to read the ARC of Heaven and Mason's love story..I freaking adored them and Mama Vanessa..the woman has amazing taste in books and just let's her filter fly right out of the window..my kind of woman..😏
Love this!! Christmas in Heaven is a sweet, fast read that brings all the feels.
I adore Heaven and how sweet and trusting he is. The most precious sweetheart!! Poor grumpy Mason doesn't know what hit him when he mets Heaven on that plane :D
I love the connection and the chemistry between these two. They are on fire, so hot, so perfect!!
Highly recommend this cute and hot Christmas novella.
“Don't be sorry,” he blinks up at me. “Show me what you like, Mase. Teach me. I want to learn and I want to be good for you. I wanna do it right,” he breathes against my cockhead.
I LOVED everything about this book! At first, I was expecting something sweet and romantic, but after a couple of chapters Emma and Anja had me blushing in my seat! One of the things I really enjoy about reading a book written by a British author, is the slang. As well as the British cuisine (I love me a good beans on toast for tea! 😉) You guys did fantastic with this book and I’m super excited to see what you come up with next!
Hilariously funny Insta love/lust All the Christmas feels
This is a fantastic debut novel. It flowed well. Was funny and relatable. It was obvious that the MMCs needed each other in their lives. They completed each other.
Was this book Insta love? Yes Did I still eat it up like I was sucking on a candy cane like it was a male appendage? Also absolutely yes Did I love this book and need more immediately because it was absolutely Christmas deliciousness? With damn bells on and deck the balls ahem balls um…deck the halls and read this book. It was everything I wanted in a Christmas romance. Sweet like a candy cane and when the spice hits it’s hotter than Christmas down under. 5 Christmas tree topping stars.
** If the score is ONE EMOJI that means little to none of whatever category/trope was present in the book.
This book is Hallmark Christmas movie gooey perfection with some hot smut! Heaven and Mason's live story has all the things I love. They have an adorable meet cute. They get to experience insta love with the help of some forced proximity. They get to experience shared Christmas traditions.
Heaven has been living a pretty lonely life these past few years. Mason has just been going through the motions. Neither of them expected to find the thing they've been missing this holiday season. That's what makes their love story even more special.
This is such a feel good holiday romance that will be added to the holiday season reading rotation from here on out.
I recommend you get your first read in of this book right now. You may need to get another read in before Christmas.
You have to love when a plot bunny takes hold and we get a brand new author from it! I truly enjoyed the way fate threw Heaven and Mason together and how Mason took up the reins to keep them together! Heaven was such a sweet and positive character and Mason was a grump with a good reason, but it was nice to watch him thaw out...
While this story does have some holiday aspects, it can easily be read year round, since the relationship definitely goes beyond the holidays.
This story was well laid out, thoughtfully plotted and I can't wait to see what comes next from E.L. Ough!
4,5 stars Christmas in Heaven by A.E. Jensen and E.L. Ough is about Heaven and Mason. Heaven was such a sweety. I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written.
Finished this book the other day and it was so good!!! A lovely Christmas Novella to really get you in the Christmas mood. Que Christmas Angels in the snow, cookie baking and Christmas decorating for the tree.
Heaven and Mason are absolutely adorable… there’s all the Christmas feels, there’s spice and amazing chemistry between the 2 MMCs. I was very impressed with the writing, you get duel povs. The storyline flows really well and I was really invested in the love story right from the start Literally couldn’t put this down. If your looking for a beautifully written Christmas Novella with all the elements of a Christmas classic this is for you
❄️ARC Review❄️ Christmas In Heaven by E.L Ough & A.E Jensen
I really enjoyed this book! If you are looking for a Christmas novella with all the feels of a Hallmark movie, but the spice of a M/M Romance this is your book!
This is a quick burn, love at first sight, airplane meet-cute between a young beautiful soul with a tragic past and an older handsome CEO with a big heart, a grumpy disposition, and a hilarious Christmas jumper.
As an American ex-pat who has lived in the UK for the better part of 20 years I really appreciate the British banter. There is also a handy glossary of terms for those who are not quite as familiar with British phrases and slang.
This story has you rooting for Heaven and Mason from the very start and nobody deserves a happily ever after more than sweet Heaven Leigh and his knight in a crappy Christmas jumper Mason.
❄️Love At First Sight ❄️Grumpy/Sunshine ❄️Age Gap ❄️First Time ❄️Forced Proximity
Listen. I’ve done a lot of self work over the last year. I know that most of my issues with books say a lot about things that I value and some things I could use some work on. I will always be a hater at heart, but I’m learning to look at the world with some softness again.
I tried soooo hard to look at CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN with softness. Two stars because I actually did finish it. It just kept getting cornier and cornier and I don’t like my books on the cob. I’m sorry. I don’t. I know Taylor Swift said to embrace the cringe or whatever but this was just tewwwww much for me, unfortch.
Lots of smut though. Like a lot. Like 80% smut, 10% fluff, 10% plot. 100% silly. 100% Christmas. I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore… I gotta go.
I’m reading this and am not sure what it means when I stop to figure out the flight time from London to Wyoming. I’m seeing 11 to 15 hours to Casper. The airline flight scene made it seem much shorter. I like realism in the details. A snack, a lunch, a quick game of ‘I Spy’ and a nap and they’ve crossed the Atlantic and the Continental U.S.A. Back to the book… I’m giving up on this one. The writing is so cornball. There is cooing and winking and constant lascivious thoughts from virginal Heaven, the little devil. He needed to be hosed down every few pages! DNF 51%
Reading ‘Christmas in Heaven’ was like drinking a mug of the most comforting, Bailey’s spiked, marshmallow loaded hot chocolate. It was a perfect Christmas novella, all the feel good vibes you need, the sweetest 2 MCs, perfect amount of naughtiness thrown in there for good measure, insta love, grumpy sunshine and some lace, silk and pearls (special mention👩🏾🍳💋).
This is a sweet tale about a grumpy MC who meets the sweet, most sensitive, nervous MC on a plane where sparks fly! It’s so heart warming to see Masons personality soften when he first meets Heaven, you live through these two MCs as they exchange secret glances and touches and silent naughty wicked little thoughts. The story goes from there, a series of coincidences and cosmic intervention brings these two adorable MCs together. With the holiday season around the corner, definately treat yourself to this spicy little Hallmarky totally swoon worthy novella.
Always a joy to read something by AE Jensen and such a pleasure to be introduced to EL Ough’s debut book. Thank you for this lovely ARC!
This is how you kick off your Christmas season reads. It has everything you want in a holiday read. I'm kicking it off with an adorable meet cute. Heaven is flying to the Us to start a new chapter and an internship. Mason is seated next to him on that flight. They soon find a connection and sparks fly, but its as west as it is hot and completely adorable. This was an ARC, and this is my honest opinion.****
This was a really sweet and cute Christmas romance with a random but fated meet-cute. Heaven and Mason were really a fun couple to watch fall in love pretty quickly. I really enjoyed reading this book and it put me in the holiday spirit.
Mason and Heaven were absolute perfection. From the very first page I knew this book was going to have me in my feels.. but in all of the best ways. The hurt/comfort vibe was Soo beautifully written and the insta-lust was amazing. These guys collided and there was no stopping them. Their chemistry was immediately noticeable and so well written. I was not expecting the amount of spice I encountered with it being a shorter book. But dang, it was phenomenal! Easily one of my faves of 2023!
4 stars This was a very lovely debut for Emma Ough and I enjoyed it very much. Heaven is a sweet wonderful 19 years old young english man, who suffered the tragic los of his parents; after two years in the foster care system, he started living and volunteering at a charity center. One day, one of the sponsor of the program offers him a job in the U.S. The very same day Heaven is about to leave UK, Mason, a 30 years old american man, is having the worst day of his life: he's in UK for the holiday but he has to return back home after a few hours after landing to assist his mother who just broke her ankle. Lost luggage, spilled coffe, no clean clothes, delay and his own first class seats assigned to someone else make his day even worse. Until he finds hiself seated next to an angel: Mason and Heaven start talking a little and Mason is completely under the younger man's oblivious charm. A forced proximity situation and a meddling mother will push them into each other's arms and their feelings will blossom under a Christmas tree.
I loved Heaven since the first page: he's innocent, pure, spontaneous, fragile and yet strong at the same time. Mason will help him understand his own worth and he will cherish him like the precious man he is. Mason is also a determined, hardworking, handsome man who finds himself very protective of Heaven. Despite their differences, they fit together perfectly.
What prevented me from giving 5 stars It seemed unlikely that Heaven could afford to buy all those lacy panties and nice clothes, relying only the charity center allowance. Moreover, I wouldn't have minded seeing him at work: he was a lonely guy and Sarah was his only friend, I would have loved to see him making other friends and interacting with his coworkers.
The epilogue is beautiful and heartwarming and the Christmas decoration was just perfect. Very recommended.
One never knows when you find the love of your life.
Heaven is about to leave on a journey that is out of his comfort zone. He's afraid. Mason is having a horrible day and is returning to America to help his mom. He still has a horrible time at the airport until, he's in the plane he meets Heaven.
A book with all the feels to get you in the Christmas mood.
Heaven and Mason were absolutely perfect together, was there an age difference, yes. Was Heaven a virgin and Mason very experienced, again yes, but they were so right for each other and I loved Heaven’s enthusiasm for all things that ended with job!
This was insta love, they just clicked under unusual circumstances, and if Mason’s day had gone according to plan and he hadn’t had the day from hell then they never would have met.
Heaven was a sweetheart who had been dealt an awful hand but with a smile on his face he made the best of what he had and Mason whose life was the complete opposite wanted to wrap Heaven in his arms and never let anyone or anything hurt him again. His lovely mom felt the same and welcomed Heaven into their family. I have to mention Sarah, a lovely character who looked out for Heaven, helped him with his disability, he had dysgraphia, and was instrumental in him starting a new life and job in the US and so it was thanks to her that Heaven met Mason.
This book had me tearing up one minute and smiling the next, it was beautifully written, the story flowed well and I loved the Britishness about it (I’m from the UK) and I really recommend you read it.
Oh Heaven, he is an absolute angel. I welled up so much when he talked about his parents, his love for them felt so strong and precious; he made me emotional throughout. Mason is a grump, although we only see his grumpiness on a day from hell and he wasn't that bad: Newsflash, he is a softee really. This is a forced proximity slash grumpy CEO and employee Christmas novella. It's a short read so we can have early declarations and a HEA and there were realistic and believable. This wasn't rushed and although they fall fast, in terms of length of the book, they wait till the last quarter and definitely didn't give off the insta-love that can often feel forced. Mason is dominant but with a softer edge and ofen doesn't mind Heaven telling him what he wants. We are treated to lace panties, which always adds spice and the intimacy was all consuming at times, perfect if you like spice. There is a scene involving a tie and spanking, but most of the kink is just suggested. I would have lived to have had a scene with Heaven getting his bubble bath. Due to them being snowed in, the only other characters that feature are Masons' mum and her partner. She bought a little bit of snark and humour to the narrative and bought a little extra to the story. As a first novel for one of the authors, this was an absolute triumph. Well done ladies. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I just love a feel good story that leaves you all warm and fuzzy by the end. This story was sweet and I just adored me some Heaven and Mason. We get the younger Heaven who has been alone in the world with only one friend after loosing his parents in an accident just a few years ago. And our business man Mason who never really had time or a want for a real relationship with anyone. Until he meets the super adorable, blonde hair, blue eyed cutie on a flight after a day from hell.
The Christmas sweater was hilarious. The bell had me laughing. I loved the age gap. The instant attraction. No slow burns with this one. I loved me some momma Vanessa. For a shorter book it was steamy in all the right places. Just loved the connection between these two. By the way the Xmas ornaments, the ones Mase gave Evvie. Ouch. Heaven cries, I cry okay?
❄️ "It’s in that moment I know with a certainty that scares the absolute shit out of me, that I’m keeping him. He belongs to me." ❄️ -- Ugh these two actually belong to me, in my heart, for the time being.
