Hypnotherapist Jamie Atherton knows fear. She knows it better than anyone can imagine. Considered the best hypnotherapist in the world, she hasn’t been entirely truthful with her clients. With the slightest skin-to-skin contact, Jamie can pull a person’s fear from their body and make it her own. Then with another single touch, she can pass that same fear on to anyone she deems deserving of such a punishment.
For years she has used her God-like ability to help those in need while also hurting those she thinks deserve it most. Until she comes across a phobia so strong and so entreched the effects of the fear will not leave her. Now, the ability she always thought of as a gift has become a curse and she must learn a new way to deal with this PHOBIA.
Phobia is the latest addition to the Contact series. We follow Jamie, a character with a unique and terrifying ability. She can pull a person’s fear from their body with the slightest touch and then transfer it to someone else as a form of punishment. It’s a concept that immediately grabbed my attention, and I found Jamie’s use of her power both intriguing and a little chilling.
There’s something satisfying about seeing Jamie dish out fear to those she feels deserve it. It makes for some intense moments, and I definitely enjoyed those parts. However, for me, it didn’t have quite the same impact as the other books. It may not be my favorite in the series, but it was still a solid read.
