Under Crete

Rate this book
Six years have passed since Elisabeth Wingate faced the terrors under Snake Island. Life has settled into comfortable obscurity—her business thrives, she’s healthy, and she’s distanced herself from the perilous world of Greek myth. When a series of unsettling global events unfold, she’s thrust back into the mythological nightmare she vowed to leave behind.

And it’s all her fault.

Targeted by a vengeful god who will stop at nothing to destroy her, Elisabeth must rally both familiar faces and unexpected allies for a desperate mission. She must venture beneath the Greek island of Crete, where ancient monsters and ruthless deities dwell.

The clock is ticking. Elisabeth survived Under Bethel. She survived Under Snake Island. Will she survive Under Crete?

This is book three in the Under a shattered Olympus saga. It is a perfect ending to an outstanding series. Under Crete is a great twist on Greek mythology. We were introduced to our main characters, Elizabeth, Duncan, and Malcom, in book one, Under Bethel. These characters are easy to fall in love with. Saving the world from monsters is what they do the best. I'm sad the series is over, but I'm excited to see what Hubert has coming next.

Every one of these books paying homage to Greek mythology has been incredible. All the characters involved in saving the world are such interesting people that by the end of each book they seem like friends. And even though Elisabeth committed a terrible crime, she never stopped trying to be a better person. Her heart was always in the right place when she took on the monsters and she felt horrible with the unintended consequences her actions cause. This time around, the monster was by far the worst. When she was released the whole world was thrown into chaos. When the author wrote positive stories about Medusa and Arachne I was really pleased. These two women are premised as ‘evil’ in their stories. It is refreshing to have something nice written about these two Demi-gods. It would be cool to experience the tapestries. Being able to transport from time or places would be an exciting or harrowing adventure. This is another book that was so well written that I felt I was in with the characters.

The third book in this series is even more gut wrenching than the first two. If you are a fan of claustrophobia, rodents, sharks, deep sea mysteries, snakes, spiders, mythology or horror, this is the series you need in your life.
Continue following Lizzy and her steadfast and courageous friends into the depths of chaos to save the world once again. They hope.
This series draws you in from the start, the way Mullins describes such creepy conditions will make your skin crawl. His fantastic blend of current day world building and character building, while flashing back historically to other tragedies to build suspense breaks the story up and helps build tension so you keep those pages turning. A remarkably wonderful storyteller indeed.
Can't wait for more of this saga to lead me into more terrifying conditions that make me question my own phobias.

Absolutely ecstatic to receive an ARC of Under Crete as I have absolutely devoured the Shattered Olympus Saga thus far. The first two books have seen us through gods, monsters, creepy crawlies and a host of phobias ranging from enclosed spaces to murky water to pitch darkness. Under Snake Island saw the repercussions of our heros actions start to take shape above ground. Under Crete does of course take us back under ground eventually, but I really enjoyed that there was quite a bit more buildup in this one. Unfortunately for Lizzy Wingate, it is just as scary above ground as below, this time around! We get to meet a lot of new characters in this book, and I think lovers of Greek mythology will really enjoy seeing how they show up. So fun and creepy - I want more 😅!

Lizzie does it again!!!!

Lizzie is an awesome character!!! She is tough even though she has a lot of self doubt!! She gives a good as she receives!!! She has more nerve than a lot of men. Mr. Mullins you have written a trilogy like no other!!! But I don’t think Lizzie, Malcolm, Duncan and Nadia are done just yet!!!! I think you left that door wide open because if anyone can survive being stabbed by a trident and a god killer it would be Lizzie!!!!! Keep up the great writing Mr. Mullins. I will be a fan for life and I recommend anyone into history with a little supernatural thrown in for kicks to read your books!!!!!! AWESOME work!!!!!

The final book in the Shattered Olympus series certainly didn’t disappoint. Set six years after the events of Under Snake Island, Elisabeth is living a much better life, when the events from the end of the last book suddenly catch up with her and her friends and they are dragged back into the horrors of greek mythology. A great setting, interesting character development and a heart-wrenching conclusion to the story. The hint of a Norse mythology follow up has me very excited! Good narration on the audiobook, though the Scottish accents were a little shaky at times.

Another great story from Mullins! The blend of mythology and horror is so good! Gets a little confusing at times, but that’s partially my fault for not fully understanding the stories behind some of the mythology.

Wonderful series regardless and I am crossing my fingers for more! I enjoy everything he puts on paper.

So, we had another monster to fight, except this time around it's a goddess. I loved how the big switches perspectives. also, how Medusa and Archane come back. Please have another book, I can't stand how the cliff hanger left us.

Can't be the end!

The story needs to continue! I'm invested in these people now! Please! Love the mythology. Characters are a perfect compliment to each other, flawed but honorable. We need her.

What a great read! Lizzy is a great character. Overcoming your past and building a life isn't easy. Especially after all the horror. Duncan and Malcolm are good friends and I even enjoy Nadia. Seeing Medusa and Arachne again was amazing. A crazy ride to the end.

Surprising end!

I was amused by the combination of gods and monsters in this book. It was cool to watch the monsters fight along side the humans. Legends! And then other Viking gods towards the end … interesting.

Under Crete by Hubert L. Mullins is the third book in the Under a Shattered Olympus Saga, following Under Bethel and Under Snake Island. This whole series has just been phenomenal! Elisabeth, Malcolm, and Duncan return for another adventure, this time beneath the Greek Island of Crete. They are up against an angry god and the monsters that serve her, but they also have some new and unexpected allies. After following the characters through three novels, it’s hard not become attached to them - they are truly likeable characters, making it easy to become invested in what happens to them and whether they succeed in their mission. If you love books about Greek mythology, ancient monsters, or any number of phobias including dark enclosed spaces, shark infested water, or swarms of rodents, then I’m sure you will love this!

“How dare so many come after someone so willing to put in the work to be a better person?”

This book was INCREDIBLE. It’s one of the best redemption arcs I have ever read. The heart-pounding pace, vivid storyline, claustrophobia, relentless pursuit, all seamlessly mixed with Greek mythology-horror elements will have you feeling like you cannot put this book down.
