Manifesto for World Revolution

Rate this book
When we first asked - “ What is your one demand?” - it sparked a major mindshift. And now, even while the world’ s mis-Leaders seem hell-bent on collective destruction, the 99%, the global majority, belong to a mighty grassroots insurgency - a third force, borderless, leaderless, beyond Left and Right. In his new book to ignite the left, Kalle Lasn outlines Adbusters’ vision for a thinkable future, a blueprint for a revolution against collapse on a whole new front. The business as usual world will soon be gone. From metameme to metameme, he asserts “ revolution is a force that gives life meaning.” This book asks where do you want to go? His Manifesto is the new flocking signal.

“ For years economists have defined the economic health of a country by its Gross Domestic Product.
Trouble is, every time a forest falls, the GDP goes up.
With every oil spill, the GDP goes up.
Every time a cancer patient is diagnosed, the GDP goes up. Is this how we measure economic progress?
ECONOMISTS MUST LEARN TO SUBTRACT!”

3.5/5 rounded down- Gleefully unrealistic, fuelled my anarchist soul. I wish the world could operate with this level of transparency and integrity, but the suggestions brought forth for this “world revolution” were unfortunately too absurd to feel realistic. Some sections, however, on the importance of re-evaluating our climate policies, the rise of the corporation as a legal individual and not an entity, and the ways colonialism=capitalism were great reminders. I love the way this was written because it was so different and refreshing, but wish it was more fleshed out and grounded. I fear we are not ready for this type of movement but every generation needs thinkers that truly believe in it.
