An inspiring woodworking book by a self-taught female woodworker. Annabelle’s engaging style makes the craft accessible for beginners. The book starts with simple projects and moves to more advanced ones, always explaining technical concepts in plain language and giving clear, practical guidance. Each section thoughtfully explores the pros and cons of hand tools versus power tools, helping readers make informed choices that suit their needs and budgets. Technical terms such as “kerf,” “kickback,” and “tear out” are fully explained with clarity, making them easily understood even by complete novices. As a novice, I found the step-by-step instructions and overview of tools and techniques especially helpful. Throughout the book, valuable tips and safety notes are featured in well-organised, clearly defined areas, so you’re always aware of best practices and precautions. The photos and illustrations are excellent—clear, thoughtfully placed, and invaluable for understanding each step. In addition, Annabelle shares her expertise on the correct application of wood stains, paints, and finishes, giving practical advice for achieving professional results. She also discusses a variety of space-saving organisational options, whether your workspace is an entire garage or just a small corner in a spare room. This book is practical, inspiring, and beautifully put together. For anyone interested in woodworking, I highly recommend it.
Excellent. Really great info for beginners in this book. Simple but not patronising instructions on how to use different power tools, make different cuts, join pieces of wood etc. Simple but useful projects to test the skills learned in each section. Building up to a final big project at the end.
