Liseya Moroeste is getting married... but it’s a punishment, not a happily ever after.
To keep the peace, and keep Liseya in line with the threat of mutually assured destruction, Deo, Filip and Adrian have insisted on a marriage of convenience for them all. But the forced bond hasn’t healed any wounds. Instead, it’s left Liseya clawing the walls of her new cage and feeling less sure of their affections than ever.
But such uncertainty is the least of their problems. Outside forces have imposed their own conditions for Liseya’s nuptials in the form of a new suitor, Ezra. To make it worse, news from the Capital comes—war is on the horizon, and with it, Sun Rose is needed by the Empire more than ever.
When the Sun Rose Trading Company arrives in Port Cenefra, meaning to control the Sun Rose at the source, Liseya’s worst fears come true. Now she and her partners have no choice but to work together to maintain control of the town, or else lose everything.
The Rogue Heiress is the second book in The Seven Star Empire series. It is a slow burn, MMMMF why choose, second world fantasy with spicy scenes and a guaranteed HEA at the end of the series.
If The Desert Heiress lit the spark, The Rogue Heiress throws it into a full blown wildfire. Shoshana Rain doesn't just build on the foundation she laid in book one, but deepens it, sharpens it, and lights it ablaze with higher stakes, hotter chemistry, and even more tangled emotions.
This story picks up with the betrothal of convenience still intact but on shaky ground. Healing old wounds, rebuilding trust, and learning to function as a team isn’t just a personal journey for the main characters it’s essential to the survival of their communities. Outside forces are circling, and the characters must learn to fight not just for each other, but with each other. Their mission becomes both personal and political, with everything from their hearts to their homes on the line.
The world of the Seven Star Empire also expands significantly in The Rogue Heiress, and so do the dangers. The action scenes are emotional and intense, with gunfights, and knife battles that have you on the edge of your seat. The sunrose trade storyline becomes even more intriguing as the characters dive deeper into the shadows of smuggling, distillation, and innovation. The unraveling of corruption within the centralised sunrose system is a slow burn subplot that promises major revelations in book three, and I am so here for it!
Book two dives headfirst into a bold, sultry, and emotionally charged “why choose” arc, crackling with jealousy, longing, reconciliation, and deepening bonds. The emotional tension simmers and the chemistry is off the charts as the spice level kicks up several notches. However, the addition of a fifth betrothed an unexpected addition, adds a whole new layer of complexity to an already strained dynamic.
Rain’s skill in juggling character dynamics shine through as relationships twist, evolve, and unravel in ways that feel both raw and earned. Trust is fragile, power constantly shifting, and yet, amidst it all, genuine connection begins to spark. The Rogue Heiress proves that this series is only just getting started.
Thank you Shoshana, NetGalley and Victory Editing for the opportunity to read this ARC.
The Rogue Heiress is the follow up installment in a second world fantasy why choose romance. Key plot points from book 1 will be discussed (also mentioned in book synopsis), which are spoilery!
Tropes: 👀Multi POV 💍Marriage of (in)convenience 💕Why choose romance 🫂Forced proximity 💰Gaslamp/mafia vibes 📃Rivals to lovers 🤷🏼♂️“F it” moment 🧑🧑🧒🧒Found family 🩹Hurt/comfort 🚫Touch her & 💀 🌶️: open door
This story delves further into her relationships with her newly betrothed and how they navigate their circumstances and plan for their uncertain future. Lis is trapped in a web of deception and destruction of her own making. Will she fall or rise to the challenge?
The world building in this series is stellar and easy to follow. Despite their different backgrounds, religion, and circumstances, they all have the goal of surviving and keeping power. The author artfully explores the pining, distrust, and perhaps reconciliation and even love.
There was a lot to unpack in this suspenseful, angsty, and steamy why choose story! The Rogue Heiress kept me on the edge of my seat and I cannot wait to see what awaits this group!
Huge thanks to the author for the review copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
CW: spice, drug use, attempted SA, violence, religious intolerance/persecution, some others
Thank you to the author for the ARC! “The Rogue Heiress” is available now!
As expected, I absolutely stayed up too late again to finish this book. I still regret nothing.
Having found herself trapped in an engagement she never expected, Liseya is once again relegated to a position of advisor and nothing more. Or at least, that’s how it feels. And all four of them are suffering for it. Between their own problems, the general disapproval on all fronts of their engagement, and the looming threat of Elemi, peace seems a long way off. When news breaks that The Company is coming, it leaves Lis and her men scrambling to keep themselves safe and in control.
A note: this story deals significantly with open hostility and hatefulness on religious grounds, as well as other issues like substance use/addiction and misogyny. These themes are not going to be a good fit for every reader; please take care of yourself.
Remember how I said the relationships in the first book were messy? These are messier. And it’s not even a miscommunication issue; it’s a complete lack of communication at all. Not a one of these people, except maybe Filip, are willing to sit down, be uncomfortable for a bit, and talk it out. Obviously this can’t continue for the entire book, but it does take up a large portion of the first part of the story, and it drove me absolutely nuts. It’s set up really well— you know why nobody is willing to talk to anybody else— but it still drove me insane.
Dynamics aside, this was another fantastic installment in the Seven Star Empire series, and I loved it. This is one of the few times that a character-driven portion of a book has been able to keep me just as engaged as the action-driven portions, and I think a lot of that has to do with the shifting POVs and the fact that everyone is handling their issues just a little bit differently. It’s very much a ‘fix the problem, then have an emotional breakdown’ and I can understand that.
Of course, the rest of the reason for my rapt attention has to do with the fact that the actual plot and overarching storyline is amazing, and I never knew what was going to happen next. There’s also this wonderful balance between using one’s head to solve a problem and using one’s fists (by which I mean, if they can’t come up with the solution, these are characters who are willing and able to get down and dirty without having an entire crisis about it). The spicy scenes aren’t hurting anything either, and I will accept no criticisms on that fact.
This book also introduced us to a little more of what life is like for those outside of Cenefra, and it’s…unpleasant, to say the least. For the Stera, especially. This is not a comfortable story when it comes to the religious interactions, and I don’t think it’s supposed to be. It’s a blunt, well-written look at both the cruelty and ignorance that can pervade these types of situations, and it does a good job at also highlighting the almost intentional moments of having one’s head in the sand because ‘surely it can’t be that bad.’ Even when it’s not malicious, pretending something isn’t a problem despite being told that it is from someone experiencing it firsthand can be damaging. The events in this story do an excellent job illustrating that fact.
I could probably go on at great length about the rest of this book, but I should probably just let y’all go read it. If you’re looking for that Wild West/mafia magic, full of spice and a little bit of angst, with a chain of events that goes 0-60 in no time flat, this is the one for you. I know I’ll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on book 3.
I just finished the second book in The Seven Star Empire series and my heart is doing flips. This book wrecked me in the best way. 💔🔥 While I enjoyed book one (The Desert Heiress), The Rogue Heiress was on a whole other level — richer, sharper, deeper. Everything from the world-building to the emotional stakes felt like it had leveled up. I didn’t just read this book… I devoured it. 😭📖💥
💍 Liseya Moroeste is getting married… but it’s not the fairy tale people think. This marriage is a punishment — a strategic move to prevent war and keep Liseya tethered, but also silenced. Deo, Filip, and Adrian insist on this marriage of (in)convenience, but Liseya doesn’t feel loved — she feels caged. Add to that a new suitor, Ezra, and the rising threat of war? Yeah, things just got complicated. 😮💨⚔️
What I absolutely adored in this sequel: • The Ocean’s Eleven-style scheming ✨💼 — the plot was full of clever moves, hidden motives, and that thrilling tension of who can we trust? • The group dynamics 👥 — their connection was messy, fragile, but so raw and real. Every hardship made their bond stronger. • The emotional pining 🥀 — there’s distrust, doubt, longing, and this delicious tension that made my chest ache. • The action + steam balance ⚔️🔥 — this book sizzles, but also grips you with high-stakes decisions, tactical planning, and battles both physical and emotional.
And then came Ezra. 🥹 Sweet, humble, soft-spoken Ezra. A scholar with the kind of quiet strength that makes you fall hard. He doesn’t see how lovable he is — which, of course, makes him even more lovable. 🥺📚 I am SO ready to see him worship Liseya alongside the others — that dynamic is going to destroy me in the best possible way. I need that book like air. 😩🙏
The world-building continued to be stellar 🌍 — easy to follow, yet rich in texture and politics. From cultural tensions to dangerous alliances, from the threat of war to the rise of the Sun Rose Trading Company (😤 don’t get me started!), everything felt so alive. And yet, it never overshadowed the core of this story: Liseya. Her struggles. Her heartbreak. Her fire.🔥👑
💔 I ached for her as she fought to navigate her tangled relationships — never truly sure where she stood, even as she sacrificed so much to protect everyone around her. Her pain felt personal. Her strength felt earned.
If you love: 💫 Slow burn 👑 Morally grey MCs 🌪️ Political intrigue 🥵 Open door romance 👨👨👨👨👩 Found family & forced proximity 🫶 Hurt/comfort + “Touch her and 😤” ⛓️ Rivals to lovers 💌 Marriage of convenience (with a twist!) 📚 Adorable, cinnamon roll scholar MMCs …then The Rogue Heiress is for YOU.
Perfect for fans of: ✨ From Blood and Ash ✨ Throne of Glass ✨ The Plated Prisoner ✨ Why Choose fantasy with heart, spice, and high stakes!
📚💕 This series has fully claimed me. I’m not okay, and I don’t want to be okay until I get book three in my hands. I’m so deeply invested in Liseya, her boys, and the fate of their world. Shoshana Rain — you’ve created something magical and I’m never leaving. Please send help. Or the sequel. Preferably the sequel. 😭📦
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 — and ALL the bonus stars for Ezra, the pining, and the absolutely jaw-dropping plot twists.
✨ Thank you so much to the author for the ARC of The Rogue Heiress! ✨
I just finished the second book in The Seven Star Empire series by Shoshana Rain, and wow — I am absolutely buzzing with excitement! While I enjoyed the first book, the second one completely blew me away. It delivered everything I was hoping for and more, leaving me eagerly craving the next installment. The pacing, the stakes, the character development — everything felt tighter, richer, and more immersive.
One of my favorite aspects of this book was how it gave off major Ocean's Eleven vibes. There was this thrilling, clever heist energy woven throughout the plot, full of scheming, teamwork, and unexpected twists. The way the main characters collaborated, strategized, and learned to trust one another was deeply satisfying. Their bond grew stronger through every challenge they faced — and let me tell you, there were plenty of hardships. Yet, no matter the danger or emotional turmoil, they stuck together and pushed forward, even when the cost could have been their lives. That kind of loyalty and growth made me so much more invested in every single one of them.
Another major highlight for me was the addition of a new male main character to the relationship dynamic — Ezra. What a phenomenal addition! He’s a brilliant, bookish scholar who carries himself with such a shy, humble demeanor that it’s downright adorable. He doesn’t realize the effect he has on others, which just makes him all the more endearing. Ezra brought a calming, intellectual balance to the group that felt like the perfect contrast to the more intense personalities around him. His presence not only rounded out the cast but also added new layers of emotional depth and romantic intrigue that I loved.
This book also amped up the action and the spice in the best possible way. The stakes were higher, the battles fiercer, and the chemistry between characters more intense than ever. I was completely immersed in this vibrant, dangerous world from start to finish, and I didn’t want to leave.
Shoshana Rain has outdone herself with this installment, and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next. Book three can’t come soon enough — and fingers crossed for some special editions, because I need more of this universe on my shelf. If you haven’t started this series yet, run — don’t walk — and get your hands on it. You’re in for a wild, emotional, and totally unforgettable ride.
What stood out most to me about this book is the unfolding layers—within each character and the story itself. There’s mystery, suspense, political intrigue, intelligent drama, and just the right dose of eroticism. Every element feels carefully woven and purposeful.
It’s rare to find a book where you can resonate with every character without feeling bored or overwhelmed. I especially appreciated the bold, dynamic relationship between the main female character (Lis) and her male partners. Each of them brings something completely unique to the table, and that’s where this story really shines.
There is much explore .. about the FMC Herself (She’s A Whole “interesting” Package) and Other intriguing characters (Like that woman ..Ezma or something) , but I’d only like to touch upon and pay homage onto “Her Four Males”, cause … why choose? 😮💨
Spoiler Alert: Male characters breakdown in my opinion
Filip is your classic “bad boy,” but with a mature, shadowy edge. His roughness—both emotionally and physically—aligns with his character as the Dark Masculine. He’s intense, dangerous, and raw.
Adrian is Filip’s opposite—gentle, emotional, sweet. He wears his heart on his sleeve, easily wounded, and impossible not to care for. He brought out Lis’s protective, nurturing side in a way that felt authentic and moving. He reflects a kind of masculinity we don’t often see, and that’s refreshing.
Deo… wow. He is the embodiment of Enigma. His unpredictability, his extremes—either hot or cold—keep Lis (and us) on our toes. His bond with Adrian is fascinating—intimate but non-competitive—and I’m eager to see how the dynamic between the three of them continues to develop.
Ezra, the newcomer, is a mystery in progress. He’s innocent on the surface, but clearly hiding skills and depth we’ve only glimpsed. He feels more like a mirror for Lis rather than a challenger like the others. I’m intrigued to see what unfolds with him.
All in all, The Rogue Heiress is a well-written, emotionally rich, and dynamic story that spirals and expands with depth and grace.
Much thanks to the author—looking forward to Book Three!!!
If you enjoyed book 1 in The Seven Star Empire series, you're going to love book 2! It is absolutely worth the wait.
Shoshana masterfully combines the overarching plot beats and the relationship building between the main characters. The balance between action, tension, intrigue, and romance is perfection!
After the ending of book 1, the relationship between FMC Liseya and her three betrothed--Filip, Adrian, and Deo--was already precarious, with well-earned distrust causing rifts even in Liseya's lifelong friendship with Deo. This second installment raises the stakes up a notch, with the unexpected addition of a new betrothed to the engagement--Ezra--and an even greater threat than in the previous book as The Company attempts to crack down on the crew's illicit trade of the valuable Sun Rose drug and its representatives target the convenient scapegoat of the Stëra in particular, Liseya's people.
One of my favorite elements in this series is how very relatably Shoshana portrays institutionalized ethnic discrimination, micro (and macro) aggressions, and the willful ignorance of the members of the group in charge. This latter even includes Liseya's non-Stëra betrothed who are increasingly confronted with the reality of the constant threat she and her people live under, and are somehow surprised despite her warnings. Shoshana integrates these complex dynamics and realizations with incredible effectiveness, weaving them seamlessly into the tapestry of the story.
And then we have the continued development of this cast of characters. Liseya is the kind of FMC I live for. And somehow Deo, who I was least fond of in Book 1, redeems himself...and then some. 🥵 Adrian, my funny and sexy Adrian, is forced to open up and get truly vulnerable under that rich playboy veneer. Filip really establishes himself as a dependable rock in the relationship, and de facto protector. And Ezra....oooh, Ezra, a hot nerd with a dirty mind and major golden retriever energy. Sign me up!
Thank you,NetGalley and ARC provided by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for sending an ARC of this book. I actually got accepted for the ARC of this book and the first one on NetGalley!
All I can say is, I am ready for the third book. I need to know what happens. If you enjoyed book one, you are definitely going to enjoy this one!! This book picks off right where book one ends and at least for me. There was no waiting. I binged both books!! Now we have fallen into a marriage of convenience with some of our guys, which I’m not opposed to. I love a good marriage of convenience and then with some of the guys it’s like an enemies to lovers vibe going on. There was a curveball throne with our marriage of convenience and we’re adding someone new to the mix, Ezra. He’s literally like a shy sweetheart and you just wanna protect him. I definitely am looking forward to seeing more of his character in the third book. Lis, Deo, Filip and Adrian are still trying to work things out, and now Ezra is being added into the mix. There’s a lot more betrayal and deceit happening than people realize so we dive deeper into that. There’s still a little mystery around the Widow and what her endgame is going to be. I’m definitely ready for this big reveal because she sets a lot of things in motions and I just wanna see what it was all for. We also had a lot of character development from various people and I really enjoy that cause it gives you a different outlook on their characters and then a better understanding. I honestly flew through this book and it left me wanting more and I know the third book isn’t coming out until 2026 but I’m hoping that with some miracle wish, it could come out during 2025 because I need to know what happens!!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks to Shoshana!
An excellent second book that improved upon the first, deepened the character and plot development, and is full of grit and heart in a unique world. I was suffering from some serious jet lag after returning from Scotland and I could not stop reading this. I spent my entire rest day sucked into this book, reading until my eyes started twitching. Rain upped the spice and stakes but it’s all so well written and never seemed squeezed in.
Liseya had a lot of political and business issues to resolve in Book 1, and it ended with her reluctantly betrothed to three men who were city Councilors and partners in the illegal smuggling operation that she has inherited. This book begins with Liseya uneasily accepting the betrothals and weary of the men’s intentions. Each MMC is unique and different, and all contribute individually to the relationship. Their relationships all grow on their own, and a fourth betrothed is added after pressure from Liseya’s Stera people. From a powerful family in a nearby city, Ezra joins Adrian, Deo, and Filip, and surprisingly, is a fantastic new addition that doesn’t make the relationship seem crowded. (Ezra and Filip are now vying for my favorite MMC in this series.)
Rain took her time with this book and it shows. For a growing reverse harem, it’s so well done. The harem feels natural for the world she created and it never dominates the plot, instead it compliments it. I can’t wait to see where it all goes and will eagerly await the next book.
The Seven Star Empire is such a unique world. Every day in Cenefra is exciting (aka dangerous 😅) with wild west mafia dystopian vibes. The world building is excellent at portraying a dichotomous way of life. It’s old timey with carriages, swords and gallows, but then also has extravagant homes with ornate furniture, libraries and pools. It feels simultaneously lawless and capital punishment. They have to work hard to survive in a harsh environment and hold power while staying off the Capital’s radar.
It kicks off right after the end of book one with new problems for their underground Sun Rose smuggling ring, an upcoming wedding and a very intriguing newcomer. I love the addition of Ezra into the mix. I think he’s the perfect counterbalance to the strong personalities in the group. Filip is still my fav though 😏. The characters grow by leaps and bounds in this book. So much development! I love it! I’m eager to see what happens in the next book.
Fav tropes: Morally gray 🩶 One horse 🐎 Enemies to lovers 💞 Mafia 🔫 Betrayal 💔 Why choose 💘 RH ❤️🔥 Spicy 🌶️ Smuggling ring 🌵 Desert 🏜️ Wild West 🌅 Dystopian vibes ⚔️ Political intrigue 📜 Everyone is queer 💋 Marriage of convenience 💍
Fav quotes: “Old-timers did love to test me.”
“You don’t have to be better, you know,” she whispered. “I’ll still be here with you.”
Thank you so much Shoshana for including me in your arc team 🩵
I fell upon The Desert Heiress a few summers ago when it first came out and have been dying to get back into The Seven Stars Empire since.
The Rogue Heiress was soo incredibly worth the wait! It gave me everything I wanted and honestly more. There is action, suspense, yearning, spice. You have an FMC (Liseya) and 4 MMC (Adrian Deo Filip and Ezra), that you just can’t help but to love and route for.
This is a RH MMMMF, slow burn romance that is just on fire. With the going ons in book one, the tentative relationships that were formed are now strained and it feels like our MCs are really starting at square one with each other.
The world itself is unique and interesting. The setting gives more of that wild west meets American frontier vibes and I loved it! It was a stark contrast to a lot of worlds I’ve been reading in and felt refreshingly different.
The story was so well written and just such an exciting fast paced read. It’s the kind of book you pick up and get lost in.
I loved the balance between the main overriding plot points and the relationship building. Neither felt too strained or rushed and really just complimented each other.
If your looking for an esacape into a new second world fantasy, with high stakes, hot spice and an intriguing story then you need to check this series out!
The Rogue Heiress is one of my favorite new books. This is the second book in the Seven Star Empire Series. We meet Liseya again after her three business partners basically coerce her into a marriage of (in)convenience. Between the Political Unrest, the hatred between the Stera and Daughters Sons religions, the meddling of those within her own and outside of her religion trying to tame her to their ways, The Angst and want between the 4 current ( yes I said current) main characters, even though they can't get their heads out of their butts, Liseya is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Shoshana absolutely captures what it’s like to be caught between Love and Hatred, War and Peace, Business and Pleasure and uncertainty upon the Horizon. And all the while, enters Ezra, our newest bethrothed. This series has left me on the edge of my seat, between the battles, the escapes, the dread and absolute passion ( and 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️) between all these characters, I can’t wait for the next book. I absolutely give this 5 stars and urge you to start with book one ( The Desert Heiress) that’s on KU! The Rogue Heiress comes out May 10th and is sure to be a hit.
Liseya said “I do”… but this is no fairytale. It’s a velvet prison, and she’s not wearing that crown quietly. The political tension is razor-sharp, the emotional stakes? Brutal. And then Ezra walks in—silent, deadly, soft danger incarnate. I'm fully obsessed.
🖤 Filip: stab-for-you excellence 💔 Adrian: gentle ache and vulnerability 🌀 Deo: hot mess I can’t look away from 💫 Ezra: the quiet threat who’s stealing the show
✨ Poly angst ✨ Mafia x gaslamp x wild west vibes ✨ No fade to black. It’s HOT hot. ✨ Emotional damage—but make it delicious
📚 Fav quotes: ❝I’m in awe of you, Lis. Of your rage, your violence. Your fierceness.❞ ❝Just get on the damn horse and let me hold you before I lose my mind.❞ (Whew. That grip they have? Tight.)
🚨 CLIFFHANGER WARNING. I screamed. I spiraled. I need book 3 yesterday.
If you’re not already in love with this bisexual, morally gray, why-choose desert fantasy with Peaky Blinders vibes… what are you doing with your life? Unhinged. Queer. Brilliant. Spicy. Add to TBR immediately.
After reading book one in the series I could not wait to get in and devour this book. Just when you thought Liseya's life couldn't get any more complicated with three betrothed men in book one, a fourth is added in this book. I was already obsessed with Filip, Deo and Adrian and now theres Ezra. I could barely handle one man and she's over here trying to handle four. I will say that I think Adrian and Ezra were my two favorites.
I love how The Company steps in and dictates how the sun rose drug was going to be handled. It added a new level of intrigue into the story. This is definitely the duology that you want to add to your collection. I could say so much more but I don't want to give any spoilers.
I will say that Shoshana Rain is a brilliant author and I have definitely become a fan of her work due to this series. Liseya is an amazing FMC. This "why choose" fantasy is a must read.
This jumps back into the political mess in Cenefra. Things get much more dire in this book.
Deo, Flip and Adrian need to ensure that Lis is completely on their side and have insisted on a marriage. Well surprise she also now has to add Ezra to her list of husbands. Of course he is a nice guy and had no clue he wasn't expected.
As war is looming and Sun Rose is going to be needed even more. This comes with outside people coming in to take over everything dealing with Sun Rose. Now Lis and her men are going to need to work well together to maintain control.
The relationships are tested and Lis even has doubts about their motives for being with her but the men are willing to do what is needed to show that their wedding isn't just out of convenience.
This book has a lot more happening in it and ends on a cliffhanger. The wedding still needs to happen but it isn't the most important thing right now. What's next for this group?
This was fast-paced, tense, full of twists, a bit of spice, and action. I love the dynamics between Lis and her (four, yes I said four!!! betrothed). The banter, tension, and well more fun times will have you laughing, groaning, and fanning yourself respectively. You really do get wrapped in their world, too. Rain’s masterful storytelling and extensive world-building not only captivates you but transports you to an entirely different world. There are some elements from our world you’ll recognize however, and while I often like using books to escape, I can appreciate seeing them in my fiction as well, because they’re so important to see characters fighting against. I’m talking about oppression of minorities, institutionalized discrimination, and leaders perpetuating harmful ignorant stereotypes. The action scenes will have your heart racing just as much as the sexy ones, and I promise you’ll be reluctant to set this down once you start reading.
Book 2 jumps right back into the messy political scene of Port Cenefra, where Liseya grapples with the consequences of her past choices. Her new reality – a forced engagement to Filip, Adrian, and Deo – feels less like a strategic alliance and more like a beautifully crafted prison. This arrangement breeds resentment and jeopardizes their standing with their people and families. On top of all that the arrival of Company officials increases the danger surrounding their Sun Rose operation. Liseya and her rivals turned allies must somehow mend their broken bonds while dealing with district politics and protecting their people. This series is action-packed, full of political intrigue and continues to highlight the struggles of a woman who holds a powerful title yet is constantly made to feel powerless!
Synopsis: Liseya Moroeste is getting married... but it’s a punishment, not a happily ever after.
Read this for: - be bi, do crime - disaster bi’s - why choose - small operation going up against the big company - summer storms - smart FMC - secrets and lies
My thoughts: I had the absolute pleasure of being a beta reader for this book and then re-reading it as an ARC before it released today. So I want to scream about this book!! I love Lis and the guys in the first book, Filip and Adrian are fun in their own way and Deo has a stick up his rear that FINALLY is loosened and let me tell you that section was hotter than hot. The introduction of Ezra was a massive surprise but I like the balance that he brings to the table. And the ending… left me desperately wanting more.
Highly recommend- start with The Desert Heiress first!!
Tropes: 🌵 Why Choose 🌵 Rivals to Lovers 🌵 Found Family 🌵 Touch Her and 💀 🌵 Marriage of (in)Convenience 🌵 Be Bi, Do Crime
Liseya has to enter a marriage of convenience to save her family’s empire, and the business of her betrothed. They have to figure out a way to keep control of the town…with an unexpected addition.
I really loved the development of this book! We get a big surprise with an additional betrothed, and that added some interesting dynamic to the group. It was great to see all of the relationships (because they start strained) strengthen and develop. I’m really looking forward to where this story is going and what will come next!
🌶️🌶️.5
Thank you, Shoshana, for sending me a copy of this book!
Thank you, NetGalley and publishers, for this ARC.
This is the second book in the The Seven Star Empire series. Some of the relationships with Lis felt more slow burn than others. I do think it's more so with just the boys. She just had problems with how they dealt with the situation at the end of book one, which led to misunderstandings. Also, this isn’t enemies-to-lovers. They are all on the same side, just with some trust issues and misunderstandings. I liked the new addition to the group, Ezra, and how he contributed to the team. She needs to stop moving by herself when facing certain problems or issues, as she could get hurt in the end.
Let's hope everyone makes it out in the end of the series. I can't wait for the next book.
After being forced in a marriage Liseya is chafing at the constraints placed on her. All she wants to do is prove her worth to her people and the men she loves. She’s not sure where she stands with Deo, Filip and Adrian as their actions and words aren’t lining up. With danger lurking around every corner and Ezra joining the mix trying to figure out his role in this new family this story was action packed. Multiple POV’s, lots of angst and drama this second book didn’t disappoint and was well worth the wait. This book ended with them setting off to a new land. I can’t wait to see what happens next!! loved it and the growth in all the characters.
After reading book 1, I was excited to start book 2 - and I loved it, more than the first one.
Lis is met with even more challenges in this book, and she handles them like the badass leader that she is! Even if she’s trembling on the inside, she’s a rock for her community & her (found) family who are also always there for her when needed.
Great storyline, good spice, but not overwhelming or pointless for the sake of it, esp when she finally gets who she’s deserves (in a deliciously spicy and romantic way!)
I can’t say much without giving too many spoilers away, but I am really looking forward to continuing reading this series.
ARC Review: i enjoyed this book a lot! it followed on from the first book nicely and had all the better parts of the first one without the lengthy descriptions of the politics at the start, which made it much more gripping from the offset. i enjoyed the characters too, their growing relationships with each other and developments to their characters were really enjoyable and entertaining. i can see where the plot is going but parts seem slightlyyy far fetched for me, but im hoping the third book will prove me wrong!! thank you so much for the ARC!
I was hooked on this book from the very beginning! The dynamics and banter between the main characters was perfection and left me wanting more, in the best way. There were so many twists and turns I did not see coming, and was left guessing what was going to happen until the very end. The political intrigue was so captivating and unique; it kept me engaged with the story and the characters the entire time. I will be thinking about this book for a long time and cannot wait to see what happens in book 3!
The Rogue Heiress is a compelling second installment in The Seven Star Empire series that deepens the slow-burn tension and complex dynamics introduced in the first book. Liseya’s forced marriage to Deo, Filip, and Adrian is far from a fairytale—more of a cage she desperately wants to escape, and the uncertainty about their feelings is a bit tedious, because JUST ASK.
The introduction of Ezra and the looming political war ratchets up the stakes, blending romance and adventure.
The pacing is a bit slow at first, but I got hooked as soon as the stakes got higher.
Overall, I enjoy this series. I’m thankful that NetGalley gave me this book to review.
Shoshana is a 1-click author for me and she did not disappoint!! This was read in one sitting, and had me immediately rabid for book 3!!! Shoshana makes you FEEL these characters in the best way!! All the feels, depth, and of course some amazing 🔥🔥 This is a slow to medium burn series, but we are definitely BURNING 🔥🥵 I can't wait to get more of Lis and her men's' stories!! If you like why choose and/or fantasy you NEED to read this series!!
Okay not to sound totally cliche but, in a world of mediocre Romantasy writing, Rain is SUCH an overwhelming breath of fresh air. This was especially apparent coming off a series I really did enjoy but found myself skipping every single spice scene. Rain not only crafts an impeccable world and multilayered characters with her words, but also demonstrates a masterclass in the art of the slow burn and how sexual tension can be just as much of a reward.
If you’re a Mafia Romance and/or Reverse Harem fan at all, READ THIS NOW. However if you absolutely NEED tons of magic or like dragons, then you can probably wait.
The Rogue Heiress is book 2 in The Seven Star Empire series, and picks up shortly after the shocking events of book 1. I am having so much fun with this series, and if you enjoyed The Desert Heiress, then you’re going to love this latest installment!
Liseya finds herself struggling to find her bearings, not only in business, but within her own relationships as well. And, it turns out, she’s not the only one! I loved getting a deeper dive into Deo, Adrian, and Filip and their inner thoughts and struggles as everyone tries to move forward and keep each other safe. And with the addition of a new betrothed, Ezra, it seems the threats just keep coming!
Shoshana does an excellent job of incorporating plenty of action, adventure, relationship building and spice into her books while never losing sight of the overarching themes of political, religious, and social injustices. And with an ending that leaves us on the edge of our seats to know what comes next, I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
These relationships, and a certain betrothed, must be protected at all costs!
Spicy MMMF romance! Absolutely loved this! When Deo, Filip, and Adrian decide Lis is going to marry them, their interests will all be tied together permanently. Insanity ensues, with each member of the betrothal trying to protect the others, the Company on their tail, and love burgeoning across the entire betrothal. Highly recommend!

Really enjoyed this second book!! Loved where the plot was headed, and looking forward to book 3! The spice definitely increased in this one, so I’m intrigued to see the spice level in the next one- maybe a spicy MFMMM scene??
