Dark, atmospheric, chilling, riveting, and mysterious, The Glass Man is the second book in the Asker Series. Detective Leonore (Leo) Asker is head of the Department of Lost Souls, a department that investigates odd/strange cases. As I mentioned, this is the second book in the series and I highly recommend reading, The Mountain King first. It's a great book and provides readers with more of Leo's backstory. Having said that, this book will work nicely as a stand-alone novel.
A body with alarming injuries has been found on Leo's father's property and he is being held as the main suspect. He needs Leo's help in clearing his name. Meanwhile, Martin Hill has gone to a secluded estate to write a biography on Gunnar Irving, a businessman. While at the estate, he hopes to see the abandoned astronomical observatory said to be on the property.
This is a dark Scandinavian thriller that is oozing with tension, atmosphere, mystery, and danger. I enjoyed that this book deals with cases/mysteries that are a little different, a little off the beaten path if you will. There is a lot going on in this book and there were a few twists and turns along the way as well. I found this book to be well thought out and I did enjoy how things came together in the end. My one complaint is that this book is on the longer side and at times I felt its length.

He seguido con esta serie porque me gustó mucho su primera novela El asesino de la montaña, pero a diferencia de su anterior novela ésta no me ha atrapado de la misma manera y en algunos momentos se me ha hecho algo lenta.
Lo primero es que la parte de Asker no me ha interesado y no he conseguido que me atrape del todo en ningún momento. La parte de Hill me ha parecido muy interesante y me ha tenido pendiente de hacia donde derivaba.
Por otra parte, la trama me ha parecido muy rebuscada y no ha terminado de gustarme del todo, el final ha estado bastante bien, teniendo en cuenta todo lo anterior.
Además creo que a la novela le sobran páginas, podría haber sido una novela más dinámica con bastantes páginas menos.

Debo reconocer que el primer libro (_El asesino de la montaña_) me gustó más que este.
Quizás hay algún tema en esta novela que no me interese tanto como en la otra (o que se me escape demasiado) y ese sea el motivo de que su nota no sea máxima.
Aun así, he disfrutado mucho de su lectura y voy a recomendarla también.

Така чаканата среща с Леонор Аскер 🙂 Романът започва с няколко различни истории.Лео получава обаждане от баща си,Перкото Пер.Той и съобщава,че съвсем скоро ще го обвинят в убийство,което не е извършил.Лео е раздвоена,но все пак се съгласява да му помогне.С напредване на разследването изникват други неразкрити случаи и възникват повече въпроси,отколкото отговори.А Лео няма време,защото Хелман,шефа на "Тежки престъпления" е решен на всяка цена да арестува Пер.От друга страна Мартин Хил е поканен в имението "Звезда",за да напише книга за Гунар Ирвинг и неговата компания.А те са свързани с преживяване от миналото на Мартин.Моте първоначално движи историите паралелно,но после,обрат след обрат,автора свързва в едно двете истории.Тайни тунели,истории за извънземни,скрити семейни истории,новаторство в медицината,незаконни изследвания,убийства,странно обезобразени трупове и шокиращи последни глави!Единственият минус е,че книгата е отпечатана на най-тънката,вестникарска хартия и дори от топлината на ръката ми хартията се криви,което е много дразнещо!

Me ha gustado el libro, aunq el anterior mucho más.
Los protagonistas se ven inmersos en dos historias diferentes. Se piden ayuda mutuamente sobre sus investigaciones.
Como personaje que me parece interesante; Per Paranoias. En el libro tiene una parte importante.
Por otro lado, algunas partes del libro me han chirriado un poco. La tematica a veces se va de mi interés.

Entrenido, fluido y bien escrito como el primero de la saga (El asesino de la montaña). Sin embargo creo que se hace algo largo, hay partes en que se avanza lento y eso a pesar de que los dos hilos argumentales me han gustado mucho y me interesaban: uno, con Leo Asker y Per el Paranoias (me encanta el apodo, modo fangirl on); y otro con Martin Hill y los Irving.
El hilo de Leo le hace volver a su infancia y adolescencia con su padre preparacionista. Me flipan los preparacionistas así que lo he disfrutado. También me flipa, no lo niego, Per el Paranoias, porque es insufrible pero frente a otros defiende a Leo donde su madre no lo hace. Amorodio.
El hilo de Hill le lleva de vuelta a su infancia y adolescencia. También. Los Irving son más raros que un perro verde y se puede deducir por dónde van a ir las cosas y qué pasó en los 90. Creo que en esta parte es donde más paja hay: no toda la base que plantea para los experimentos, sino el ir y venir de Hill por la zona.
Los retornos a la juventud de ambos tampoco los he acabado de ver claros, porque no he sentido que se profundice en quiénes eran Leo y Martin y cómo han evolucionado. El final me ha resultado acelerado y bastante decepcionante considerando toda la preparación previa. Vamos, que me quedé con los ojos como platos y pensando ¿esto es todo?
En conjunto es una novela entretenida, se lee muy rápido (al menos a mí me han enganchado los temas que trata), bien escrita y no es sangrienta ni deprimente como otras nórdicas, pero es algo larga con un final un poco meh para mi gusto. Tampoco siento que hayamos conocido más ni a Leo ni a Martin ni a las Almas errantes del departamento de Leo.
PS. Y hablando de las Almas errantes, no sé si es cosa de la traducción o si en el original es así, pero me ha sacado de mis casillas que a Rosita se la denomine múltiples veces, sin venir a cuento y sin motivo (porque es una máquina la tía), "mujercita" o diminutivos pseudo-despectivos similares.

Betyg: 4,5 av 5 - Anders de la Motte tillhör verkligen en av mina absoluta favoritförfattare, jag har läst alla hans utgivna böcker, och nästan alla har fått toppbetyg av mig. Jag har älskat dom alla, dom tre böckerna i Geim-trilogin, dom två böckerna i MemoRandom-serien, dom fyra böckerna i Årstidskvartetten, dom två böckerna i Morden på Österlen-serien, och den första boken i Asker-serien. Den här boken, Glasmannen, är alltså det andra boken i Asker-serien, och den första boken i serien heter Bortbytaren. Jag tycker att Anders de la Motte är en fantastisk författare, som har skrivit böcker i fem olika serier, som är helt olika varandra, men ändå tillhör alla deckar-genren. Jag tyckte mycket om den här boken, även om jag kanske tyckte att den var snäppet sämre än Bortbytaren. Men jag kan verkligen varmt rekommendera den, och jag ser mycket fram emot att följa den lite speciella polisen Leo Asker i framtiden. Jag lyssnade på boken, som var bra uppläst av Gunilla Leining.

Нова среща с познати герои - "Стъкления човек" от Андерш Де Ла Моте
Ако сте прочели "Кралят на планината", то значи вече познавате Леонора и Мартин. Ако не сте - то първо прочете нея и тогава посегнете към "Стъкления човек" защото авторът тук доразвива образите на героите си и има доста препратки към първия случай.
Мартин и Лео разследват паралелно два (на пръв поглед) различни случая, всеки обсебен от своето минало. Мартин от дете мечтае да задоволи любопитството си и да посети загадъчен остров с изоставена обсерватория. Изглежда, че съдбата му понася на тепсия възможност да напише новата си книга и да сбъдне детската си мечта. Лео бори демоните си от миналото и се опитва да се отърве от влиянието на баща си, но това изглежда непостижимо. Двамата заедно ще стигнат до тайнствени тунели под земята, за да извадят наяве бруталността на един влиятелен човек, болните му амбиции за безсмъртие и тираничните му постъпки спрямо членовете на семейството му. Двамата герои попадат на място, на което са извършвани потулени убийства, а разкриването им ще спаси бащата на Лео от затвора.
Главите са кратки, обемът е голям, но това не пречи да хванете книгата и да се потопите в удоволствието, което предлага Андерш Де Ла Моте отново на читателите си. Тази втора книга харесах повече от "Кралят на планината"

Втора среща с комисар Лео Аскер, която е низвергната в отдел Ресурси - място, на което не се върши полицейска работа и не се разследват тежки престъпления. Но това е било преди тя да бъде прехвърлена там. Защото независимо в кой отдел работи, тя е във вихъра си. А новият случай, който трябва да разгадае я касае лично защото полицията е вдигнала мерника на собствения ѝ баща.
Лео Аскер трябва да намери доказателства, който да оневинят Пер Аскер за убийството на човек открит близо до неговия имот и лежал там 16 години. А за да го оневини, трябва да намери истинския убиец.
В същото време Мартин Хил, който помогна на Лео в предходната част също отново е в играта. Той е потърсен да напише книга за богато и влиятелно семейство, което крие дълбоки тайни свързани с криониката и експериментиращо в тази сфера. Книгата тече плавно, без силни сътресения, но методично разкрива разследването на Аскер и пребиваването на Хил в имението Звезда.
Макар да не се случваха някакви екстремни ситуации и да го нямаше онова надпреварване с времето и тегнещо напрежение, леко полеко редувайки двете местонахождения, авторът рисуваше желания от него свят. Лично на мен ми беше много интересно да проследя напредъка на Аскер, както и разкритията, които съумя да направи Мартин Хил, така че двете пространствени линии да се съберат в една.
Книгата е доста обемна (650 стр.), но се чете много бързо и неусетно. Самият отрицателен герой се "надушва" на много ранен етап, но съмнението винаги остава и до последно не се знае как ще се развият нещата.
Така или иначе всеки, който обича добрия криминален трилър ще оцени по достойнство и тази книга. От мен 4,5*.

Това беше първата ми среща с Андерш де ла Моте, но със сигурност няма да е последната. Макар че „Стъкленият човек“ е втората книга от поредицата за Лео Аскер, може да се чете самостоятелно. В началото имах усещането, че изпускам някои детайли, но вместо това да ме отблъсне, само засили интереса ми.
Леоноре Аскер, началник на отдела за безнадеждни случаи, е принудена да се изправи срещу миналото си, когато баща ѝ – човек, когото не е виждала от години – я моли за помощ. Близо до дома му е намерен труп, а той е основният заподозрян. В същото време писателят Мартин Хил разследва мистериозно имение, чиито тайни водят към страховита легенда за Стъкления човек.
Лео е белязана от миналото си, бореща се с вътрешните си демони, но невероятно проницателна и целеустремена. Връзката ѝ с баща ѝ добавя лична драма, а нейният професионализъм я прави още по-интригуваща.

La novela recupera a la inspectora Leonore Asker, que al mando de la peculiar Unidad de Casos Perdidos, recibe la llamada de su padre, con quien no tiene contacto desde hace más de quince años y que precisa su ayuda, ya que se ha hallado un cuerpo en su finca y la policía sospecha que él ha sido el asesino. Por otro lado, Martin Hill, amigo de la infancia de Asker, se traslada a una finca apartada para escribir la biografía del magnate Gunnar Irving. Intrigado por la propiedad, que incluye una isla privada con un observatorio astronómico abandonado, Hill descubre que la zona alberga secretos oscuros, luces misteriosas y cuerpos mutilados. A medida que Asker y Hill buscan respuestas, un temible asesino en serie, conocido como "el hombre de cristal", emerge de las profundidades de la oscuridad.

Mycket av handlingen ägnas åt saker som i slutändan inte har något med mysteriet att göra. Jag förstår att det behöver finnas där som ett villospår och som en parallellgående story som förmodligen kommer blöda över in i nästa bok. Dock är jag inte helt överförtjust i att mördarens motivation att döda innan själva plottwisten i boken inte riktigt får en bra förklaring. Ska jag bara anta att det, (precis som Elsas blindhet?) har med familjens genetiska cirkus att göra?
Dock ska jag inte sticka under stol med att det var sjukt spännande.

I picked this book up not realizing that it was the second book in a series and that I had the first book! Oooops. When I saw it on Simon Audio I was so excited that I snatched it up without further investigation! I’m glad I did, though. There were references to the previous book and I was missing some character background but that didn’t stop me from really enjoying this one and getting to know the characters. I thought Leo was such an interesting character, especially her relationship (or lack thereof) with her father. The dual POV kept things flowing quickly and at a nice pace so it was easy to follow, also adding to the tension. I read this mostly by audiobook because this is a big book and I knew it would be easier for me to have time to listen than to sit down and read. I really liked the narration by Cassandra Campbell. She really did a great job with the different characters and POV.

Leo is really intriguing characters, and I am still curious about her co-workers. Such a peculiar group!
I loved the setting, mysteries, atmosphere... And there were some thrilling moments too.

Last year, my great book pal Char, suggested I should check out ‘The Mountain King’ the first book in this series. I always listen to Char’s rec’s and I’m glad I did, because it was a blast.
Fast forward to early July, and I received an email from Atria, letting me know that the second book was being released with an English translation and asked if I’d like to give it a read. Absolutely!
I wrapped up a couple reads and dove in, with high expectations and believing I had more than enough time to get this one done prior to release date. Life got in the way a bit and slowed me down, as well, this was one of those books where sometimes I’d read for an hour or two and somehow I didn’t make any progress, so my apologies to Atria and the author for not finishing this one prior to release date.
What I liked: So, this is a book two and in this case, you absolutely have to have read book one, as this picks up literally during the phone call at the end of book one, so everything ahead in this review will come off a bit spoiler-ish, so read with caution if you’ve not read book one.
After surviving the events of ‘The Mountain King,’ Leo receives a phone call from her estranged father, Prepper Per, letting her know that a body has been found near his compound and that he’ll be implicated in the death. He suggests she help him, otherwise there will be bloodshed when the police come to raid his place. As well, Hill has come through surgery after the events of book one and is taking a leave from the university. Expecting to relax, he’s surprised by a phone call from Gunnar Irving’s company. Gunnar is a billionaire, medical tech genius who credits his tech discoveries to seeing a UFO when he was younger and getting the information from those onboard. He lives at Astroholm Manor, a secluded place with an island in the middle of lake where strange things have been said to happen.
As Leo struggles to decide if she should help Per, Hill heads to the Manor to write his dream book, but as is always the case, what you see isn’t always what you get.
The book bounces back and forth between Leo and Hill and we see them struggle with their unexpressed feelings towards each other, as well as with their individual storylines. de la Motte does a great job by juggling these two storylines and keeps the tension high with tight, shorter chapters. Everything feels snappy and fresh and very rarely does a cliff hanger happen and the shift to the next chapter feel like a let down.
As the mystery of both storylines deepens before merging, we get some phenomenal lore building within Hill’s storyline and we get a deep, robust father-daughter relationship dynamic plot line in Asker’s. This works really well to let areas of the novel breath, especially when the shit hits the fan in the final quarter.
At the end, we get a lot of questions answered, as well as secrets revealed and those revelations will either work for the reader or not, but within the context of the story, they manage to bring a conclusive element to the book.
Saying that, the ending suggests there’s more in store for Leo, and so far, there’s been four total books released in Sweden, so I assume we’ll be getting a third soon.
What I didn’t like: While we do get a lot of questions answered, I will say the portion of Per’s storyline where he’s seemingly planted somebody where they’ll perfectly help him and surveil for him seemed a bit too perfect. There’s a lot of questions unanswered on that particular plot point.
Why you should buy this: I mean, if you loved book one, you’ll love book two. Otherwise, book one dealt with urban exploration and book two deals with a crazy mansion with secret doors, UFO’s, something strange with red eyes roaming the woods and a family mystery that’s decades old. All very intriguing and all explored thoroughly within this one. What’s not to get your interest?
This one was a ton of fun and it was great following Leo on an adventure again.

Anders de la Motte demuestra una vez más su habilidad para tejer tramas complejas y mantener al lector en vilo. La narrativa es fluida, y la ambientación en los paisajes suecos añade una atmósfera sombría que complementa el tono del thriller.
La relación entre Leo y Martin es uno de los pilares de la historia. Su colaboración, basada en una amistad de años, aporta profundidad emocional y dinamismo a la trama. La evolución de estos personajes a lo largo de la novela es coherente y enriquecedora.
Los temas y la estructura:
El libro aborda temas como la reconciliación familiar, los secretos del pasado y la búsqueda de la verdad. La estructura alterna entre las investigaciones de Leo y Martin, lo que permite al lector obtener distintas perspectivas y mantener el interés en todo momento.
