As the book begins, Uncle Albert’s Royal Society is in an uproar over the admissions of a woman – the horrors – to their membership. However, when said woman appears, they learn she has in her possession a collection of rare insects and butterflies, and soon the whole society is off to the Austrian Alps to find one particularly elusive specimen. Of course, Lady Caroline, accompanies Uncle Albert. Lady Caroline’s odd friend Poppy also comes along, as her new husband is now a member of the Society.
This being a mystery, all kinds of mysterious things begin to happen at the odd castle they’re staying at. A riding accident, tales of ghost sightings, lights going off, long-lost jewels, a missing person, and soon, a murder. While James – Lady Caroline’s unannounced fiancé – remains in London investigating a crime, the members of the Royal Society and their secretaries seem to be more present than in past books, which was rather fun.
As always, I enjoyed all of the main characters, and found the setting and mysteries interesting. I look forward to reading the next in the series when it comes out.

I enjoy keeping up with the latest antics of these characters. This one was less satisfactory for various reasons: There is a lot of internal speculation early on that goes on and on when there hasn’t been much happening and so it sounds like manifesting problems. The two women at the castle were hard to distinguish (names) over the audio and the narrator didn’t help. The denouement seemed to come up with facts that hadn’t been established.
I’ll still keep continuing with the series. I might switch to reading from audio. Might improve my experience.

good not great
A decent historical mystery. Poppy was not her usual Poppy self. Characters are not really advancing , they’re a bit stagnant. Story kind of drags in multiple points.

Lady Caroline & Poppy Are At It Again
Lady Caroline and the Royal Society are off on another wild goose chase and, of course, there’s a murder. Caroline spends a lot of time thinking and delegating because she’s dealing with a complex murder. Poppy got to raid a medieval armory but didn’t have the slapstick battle I was hoping she would. All in all, another wonderful escape from reality where only the bad folks die and go to jail. The reader gets to wander around a creaky old castle and chase butterflies in meadows.

Lady Caroline, her Uncle Albert and the rest of the Royal Historical Society are off to Austria. This time, the Society is in search of a rare damselfly.
The group is staying at a castle in the Tyron. They haven't been there long, when their host is murdered. Not only that, everyone is stuck at the castle because of a large rockfall. With time on her hands, Lady Caroline investigates the murder.
This book had excellent pacing and a very clever murderer. It had an Agatha Christie-esque feeling to it with its many twists and turns. A thoroughly enjoyable mystery.

Adventures in Austria, Alone in a Crowd
Lady Caroline is forced by circumstance to solve a murder without James, learning to trust her instincts AND the knowledge and talents of new friends and long-standing colleagues in a remote Austrian castle. A great location, an enigmatic household of schemers, and the usual hapless antics of Uncle Albert and other curious Lords provide a balanced set of clues and characters.

Nice mystery
This book has an intriguing mystery and the side stories keep the reader engaged. resolution was not totally predictable, but all the clues were available for the reader.

Very delightful
With all the earmarks of a great mystery this book is a delightful way to spend a quite day reading. With wonderful charters, all with their own quirky personalities, and a creepy castle how can you miss.

If, when I come to write a review of a novel, I cannot remember what it was about or why I gave it a 2 star rating, I know that this isn't a series I am going to revisit. However, I endured to the end.
Lady Caroline travels as secretary to her uncle as he searches out rare specimens of insect with a group of ancient cronies. The old geezers of the Royal Society are irritatingly boring. There are too many of them and too many characters altogether in this novel.
For preference, I enjoy books which have winsome, well developed characters and a sense of place which shines as a character in itself. The Alps ought to have been such a setting and Lady Caroline ought to be such a character. Instead, I could exchange her for half a dozen other sleuths in this genre. Her love interest was missing from this novel and so the ongoing development of that relationship was stunted. Sigh.
Obviously, there are many readers who will not agree with this assessment, but i won't be ploughing through any more episodes in this series.
