A Christmas novella of friendship, secrets, mystery, and murder.
In the Westbourne Arcade the shop owners are preparing for the festive season. Decorations are being put up, window displays are being prepared, but somebody has murder on their mind instead.
Ezra and Barry are best friends and have both run their businesses for the last thirty years in the arcade. They are pleased to welcome newcomer Rudy and his adorable dog, Bruce, although not everyone is happy with his new shop.
Jess is the manager of the Wiggly Woofers charity shop, next door to Rudy. She loves Christmas and is trying not to be distracted by her new handsome neighbour.
When one of the shop owners is found murdered everyone is shocked. Ezra, Barry, Jess and Rudy start to investigate, but then another shop owner goes missing, and it might be the start of a Christmas nightmare.
Can they find the killer before one of them becomes the next victim?
This was a lot of fun. Couldn’t decide between 3 or 4 stars. Cute story, interesting characters. Some of the writing was not perfect but it was easy to read nonetheless.
The Wizard of Westbourne by Rachel Wigg is a Christmas novella filled with friendship, secrets, mystery, and murder.
In the Westbourne Arcade, shop owners are preparing for the festive season - decorations go up, windows sparkle with displays, and holiday cheer fills the air. But beneath the tinsel and lights, someone has murder on their mind.
Best friends Ezra and Barry, who have run their shops in the arcade for thirty years, are delighted to welcome newcomer Rudy and his dog, Bruce. Not everyone, however, is happy with Rudy’s arrival. Jess, manager of the Wiggly Woofers charity shop next door, is trying her best to focus on Christmas while being distracted by her handsome new neighbor. When one shop owner is found murdered, and another goes missing, the four band together to uncover the truth - before one of them becomes the next victim.
The story is fun, dramatic, and full of twists. The characters are engaging, though I sometimes wished for more depth in their reactions to the shocking events. The mystery was enjoyable, though it could have been a little more layered. The novella length makes it a quick read - which is both part of its charm and one of its limitations.
Overall, The Wizard of Westbourne is an entertaining festive mystery with a cozy setting and a cast of likable characters, perfect if you’re looking for a short holiday read with a touch of drama.
This started really well, but after the first half it was like wtf. All the nice people you met are starting to get picked off. Really depressing. Not at all what I thought it would be. The title is very mis-leading.
