okay this book id would class as slow burn dark mafia romance for sure
emotional I actually had a brief cry not massive sobbing but enough to force me to remove my glasses and wipe my eyes dry
now to read the next book because the cliff hanger for the end here leaves alot to be said
the main fmc has had a life full of broken love and broken trust can she truly trust any one she suffered immensely in this book she is one hell of a fighter and finally broken to something new someone not even she recognises makes me curious to see how the next book starts and ends to say the least im excited to see who wins in this story
I don't usually read mafia romances. But with the author advertising the second one to be released soon I thought why not sounds interesting. I'm not really sure how I feel about this book, it moved quite fast relationship wise and there was a bit of time jumping so keeping a timeline was hard. I was and still am very confused on why Luciano is there and why he has his own pov ???? Guess I'll find out with the second book.
Going into this I had no idea what to expect. I usually love the MMC but I think Ellen was my favourite in this book. What she went through and her journey to overcome that trauma was just amazing. Was not expecting that ending but makes me very excited for continuation of this book
Reading A Life of Lies was like stepping into a whirlwind of passion, secrets, and unrelenting tension. K.M. Evermore weaves a story that is equal parts seductive and dangerous, plunging readers into a dark romance that had me hooked from the first page.
Daniele, the Sicilian mafia kingpin, is everything I crave in a dark romance hero—intense, complex, and with just enough vulnerability to make my heart ache. His dynamic with the FMC crackles with chemistry, their steamy encounters leaving me breathless while their emotional clashes kept me flipping pages late into the night.
Every scene drips with tension, whether it's a charged glance across a room, a whispered threat, or a moment of unexpected tenderness.
If you're a fan of dark romance with morally grey characters, steamy scenes that will make you blush, and a plot filled with danger, betrayal, and unspoken truths, A Life of Lies is your next must-read. Daniele will linger in your thoughts long after the last page—trust me.
I can't wait to see what K.M. Evermore delivers next! Bravo.
“Those days were a kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, and feelings that seemed to stretch forever. But forever didn’t last. Not for us”
This story is a dark/mafia romance that follows the main characters Ellen and Daniel with Luciano also sprinkled in to create a multiple POV book. The story begins with learning more about Ellen working in cybersecurity and how she begins working with Daniel. There are many complexities about each character and their interconnectedness. We immediately get the sense of how there is bad blood. We soon uncover many secrets from both of them involving their family history, ties, and reconciling their past traumas.
“Compatibility? Between us? Not even the stars could make sense of this dynamic”
Throughout the novel, we see the slow burn and building of the romantic relationship between Ellen and Daniel. We see them slowly start to fall for each other and heal from their past relationships. Daniel slowly starts to become enamored with Ellen while still struggling with his dead ex-wife. However, we see how much they care for each other and want to build a future together.
“A night of alliances forged and broken, of smiles hiding daggers, of conspiracies masked as celebrations.”
While the beginning of this book was a bit confusing, because we were introduced to many characters and multiple POVs it was a bit hard to keep up. The pacing was also a bit slow but once you got towards the middle/end of the book, it picked up. As the story progresses, new information about each character and their relationships become more clear. We see their motives for why they do things. The world building was a lot of fun to delve into, and I am excited to see how the story progresses and the secrets that we uncover and the truth to be discovered. Overall recommend this book especially if you want to get started into reading dark mafia romance!
This was a great read! I'm newer to Mafia romances so wasn't sure what to expect from the MMC other than possibly a "soft, but only for her" vibe. The relationship pacing was pretty quick, or seemed to be, the timeline was a little hard to grasp. Spice is there, but low level in my opinion and more focused on the connection it's building between the MCs rather than the scene.
I was hoping for a little more into the MMCs life and the Mafia background, but the story didn't seem to get deep into that until later in the story and was more focused on the MCs relationship and the FMCs life. But oh boy, when you get into the action, you get action and plot twists. This book had me hooked in the first half, but the second half just grabbed on tighter. The grief and trauma the FMC goes through is portrayed so well and almost had me in tears (and I'm not a very emotional person). The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger since this is a series, but not a "WTAF just happened" cliffhanger, more of an "I can't wait to see what happens next" type cliffhanger.
I don’t normally read mafia books, but this one intrigued me. I love the FMC and all the characters POVs. After the abuse in the past and always running to feel safe…she is a fighter. Then she meets a guy that I think Falls for her real fast I think is a kind hero… except for the part where he knows secrets about her that she doesn’t even know. Then just when I got past that and It was starting to sound like a modern day fairytale and right when I should be in bed by now I finish the ending because I had to lol. What an ending that was! I went through so many feelings in the end. I was happy and I was crying, ugh so much adrenaline …I was on the edge of my pillow I guess lol. I cannot wait for the second book to come out. This is an amazing book a must read. Plus I have to give props for an author who got me to finally read a mafia book and love it.
In my opinion *Secrets *past trauma *found family *enemies to lovers 🌶️🌶️
Listen. This book grabbed me from the very first page. A Life of Lies by K.M. Evermore isn't just a story — it’s an experience. I cried, hard. The way Ellen’s trauma was written was so achingly beautiful that I found myself highlighting entire pages. At one point, I was crying so much I literally couldn’t see the words anymore.
Around 73% in, I started getting nervous — the good kind of nervous. Everything was going so well... too well. And then? The story didn’t miss. Things went south in the most perfect, gut-wrenching way. I was holding my breath, heart pounding, unable to tear myself away. The ending? GENIUS. Absolutely masterful.
I cannot wait for Book 2. K.M. Evermore has truly created something special with A Life of Lies. If you’re thinking about picking this up — do it. You won’t regret it.
This was a fast paced romance with so many twists and turns! I loved the multiple POVs and enjoyed the story! Definitely had different emotions going through, trigger warning for sure, some mentions of emotional/physical/sexual abuse. The spice was at a good level, not too much but just enough for the slow burn. I wasn’t really feeling enemies to lovers, but she tried to fight her feelings. I loved Daniel so much, he was protective and knew what he wanted. There was so much intrigue , I wasn’t sure where it was going in the end, the ending was INSANE! The writer definitely had me fooled at some points. I devoured this book and I’m excited to see what happens next with Ellen!
This was a good dark mafia read. I absolutely love multi pov's so i thought it was fun getting to know the characters and I also enjoyed the slow burn in this book which can be hard for me to like in some stories. I was thoroughly intrigued throughout the story, desperate to know what would happen next. While I enjoyed the plot, the pace of the story was quite slow. It took me longer than usual to finish but still a great read that I would recommend especially if mafia romances are one of your favorites like mine :)
This was a great read! I was HOOKED. Mafia romance isn't usually a favourite of mine however the story interested me i was dying to find out what happens.
The writting is awesone. The way the fmc's past & trauma is written was amazing. Don't get me wrong, it was awful but the way it came across on paper was brilliant!
The book truly suprised me in the best way. If your into morally grey characters ✅️ thrilling vibes ✅️ slow burn ✅️ tension ✅️ dark mafia romance ✅️
What an entertaining read! I sped through this book in 3 days which is a record for me. While it starts out unassuming and quite "normal", you slowly start to get the sense that something else lurks close by. I enjoyed the Italian flair and charm more than I'd like to admit! Trying to piece together all the little clues that were littered across the chapters was quite fun and done well by Evermore. And ofcourse, a little spice never hurt anyone. :) a fun read for sure! Bring on number two!
I absolutely loved this book! I have discovered it through TikTok and was instantly drawn to the story. It has the perfect mixture of romance, dark secrets and suspence while also including an amazing storyline with numerous plot twists.
