One mistake. A tragic accident. A life-altering event.
Something I can never take back.
What do you do when you meet the girl of your dreams but you’re now a shadow of who you used to be.
Gemma Ackerman, my girlfriend, was my everything. Her quiet, nerdy aura drew me in and I never wanted to let go. Life on my Harley with her by my side was perfect.
Until it wasn’t—until I lost myself.
Because a part of me died that night and it was never coming back.
I welcomed anger instead. I greeted loneliness like an old friend. I allowed guilt and sorrow to nestle inside my head.
That’s when I met Claire Edwards—the epitome of joie de vivre. She showed me a new colorful way to see the world. She turned numbness into eagerness for a taste of life.
And now I’m torn between a girlfriend that never gave up on me and a woman I picture as my wife.
I had no other choice. I let myself die, so that I may live. And it’s all thanks to her. . .
*Follow the same standalone storyline as Silent Screams and Grieving Graves through Harvey and Claire’s eyes.
M . H . B . graduated law from a Canadian University and loves spending time with her partner and her German Shepherd Dog. She has a passion for animals and enjoys the simple things in life: books, music, chocolate, sunny days and overall wellness. When she is not writing, her mind is in another world, with a book in hand.
I was on the fence about reading book 3 of the series, Harv and Claire were not liked ( at all) by me after finishing books one and two from Gemma’s POV. Gotta say after reading their POV’s, I still don’t like either of them. It was hard for me to think of him in this book, anew, without clouding my views with his and Gemmas past. Probably a me thing, but was a thing that made me skim through some scenes with him and Claire because I just didn’t care. I would have liked instead Books 1 and 2 from Gemma’s and Harvs POV with the same outcome of them with the new people.
Thanks to BookSirens for this advanced copy in return for my opinion.
I got to pleasure to read @mhb.author new book Frozen Flames and it was 5⭐️!
Although I didn’t necessarily like Harvey and Claire when I read them in her previous series, this book has given me a new perspective into their flaws and journey of the characters.
As a disabled person myself, I resonated with Harvey and how after his accident, he felt like he lost a vital part of himself and didn’t know how to be better for those around him. Showing his struggles and accomplishments was done so beautifully that I could feel myself empathising with his inner turmoil in figuring out what he wanted and what was best for his healing.
Claire was a different story. She was sucked in and lost herself to her feelings without looking at the whole picture but she also grew and realised how to take care of herself while also letting go of some past trauma.
M.H.B is an amazing author and can’t wait to see what is next 🩵
I’m invested. I have so many questions, I genuinely can’t wait for the next book in the series!
The perspectives, the character development, the insight, JUST EVERYTHING. I loved this book, from the outside looking in this book is realistic, because these things can happen in real life. A sudden accident, letting go of a long-term relationship, etc. This book is a masterpiece, I loved every second of it.
Last but not least, would I recommend it… DEFINITELY! I’ll just let you know there’s a few TW.
This is a bit of a somber read. It runs the same timeline as Silent Screams & Grieving Graves (formerly known as Kisser of Death & Master of Death,) but taken from different POVs. I'll admit, I didn't really care for the two main characters. Their behaviors. Harvey and Gemma were a seemingly happy couple until 2 1/2 years ago when they were involved in a motorcycle accident which caused him to be paralyzed from the waist down. After that, the two started growing apart. Him too inside his head and her not knowing what to do to help him. He started pushing her away, until she finally decided to go elsewhere. Meanwhile, he may not have let Gemma in, but he had no problems opening up to his new PT, Claire. His reactions, to me were at times out of line. He kept putting the blame on Gemma, when in reality he didn't her much choice. And it felt like everything she tried to do, he shut down, but then Claire comes along and all of a sudden he's accepting it. It was frustrating to me as a reader seeing this happen. He didn't want to do what he needed to keep her, yet he didn't want to let her go, even as he was already getting involved with Claire. I'm not saying Gemma was perfect and didn't make mistakes, but (if you've read the previous books you'll understand,) she tried, but he made it impossible. If you read this on it's own, you may see it in a different light. The first two books are taken from Gemma's POV, and this book is from Harvey and Claires. In the last few chapters, some of the things I had issues with (in regards to the behaviors) were discussed and brought to light through therapy, and Harvey realized some of the stuff he did were in part to blame. As I mentioned, this is a somber read, but there are a few chuckles here and there (primarily from Harvey's brother.) I wouldn't say there are teary eyed moments, but there is a lot of heartache. There is some sexual content (not a lot, but some.) There is cheating (from both parties,) though by this time they were already mentally checked out of the relationship... but if that is a hard no for you, you'll probably want to skip this series as a whole, as that is the core of the story. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and it was well written. (Just angry on Gemma's behalf for most of it.)
"He’s looking at me as if he wants to make a wife out of me." 💙
Frozen Flames by MHB delivers a captivating and insightful third installment, offering a refreshing perspective through Harvey's eyes. What was once a source of frustration and anger in the previous books transforms into a journey of understanding, as MHB masterfully reveals the layers of complexity behind Harvey's actions. This shift in narrative allows readers to connect with the character on a deeper level, fostering empathy and appreciation for his development. The exploration of his evolving relationship with Claire is both tender and compelling, adding a heartwarming dimension to the story, and the realistic portrayal of Harvey's journey with his disability is both sensitive and impactful. MHB handles the representation of Harvey's experience with a wheelchair and his rehabilitation with commendable nuance, avoiding simplistic tropes and showcasing the emotional and physical challenges he faces.
The narrative's strength lies in its ability to seamlessly weave together the threads of the previous books, culminating in an epilogue that provides a satisfying and comprehensive conclusion to the entire trilogy. MHB's writing is engaging and evocative, ensuring that readers remain invested in the characters' fates until the very end. The emotional depth, nuanced character development, and thoughtful disability representation in Frozen Flames showcase MHB's talent for crafting a truly memorable series finale.
This is a new author to me AND I knew I was starting this series in the middle. But I wanted to go into this without preconceived notions about Harvey. Well - this book didn't make me like him, Gemma, or Claire, to be honest.
It was a heartbreaking story, but more tragic than teary. Harvey and Gemma were close, but a horrible motorcycle accident left Harvey severely injured. This book is from his perspective and his PT's. At this point in his and Gemma's story - neither one is really committed to the relationship although Gemma has clearly tried to be. BUT both parties cheat which seemed unnecessary - just break up already.
Harvey has an incredibly hard time letting go of Gemma which makes Claire who is certainly not the heroine of this story seem a bit pathetic.
Although Harvey finally gets the mental help that he clearly needs - the fact that his PT didn't encourage that in the first place was a BIG miss.
This is a tough read with characters that weren't all that likeable. I do plan to read the first two books as I'd like to see this story from Gemma's perspective and maybe I'll feel differently towards her in the end. Harvey and Claire - likely not.
I voluntarily requested and read an advanced reader copy via BookSirens.
Frozen Flame is an emotional journey filled with heart-wrenching decisions and raw, unforgettable moments. Prepare to be captivated by a story that challenges everything you know about love, loyalty, and fate
The FMC (Claire) is a woman whose boundless compassion for others often comes at her own expense, always putting others’ needs before her own well-being.
The MMC (Harvey) is a man forever changed by a tragic event, left emotionally shattered and physically scarred, struggling to find a new purpose in life.
What begins as a strictly professional relationship between Claire and Harvey soon begins to blur into something more. But, given their circumstances, their growing attraction feels more like an unfortunate twist of fate. As they navigate the landmines of their situation, they’ll come to realize that perhaps fate brought them together for a reason. Do I recommend? YES!
Harvey and his girlfriend got in a motorcycle accident that left Harvey immobilized from the waist down. Ever since the accident Harvey has had a hard time and pushed almost everyone away. Not letting Gemma in. When Gemma gets a full time job and won’t be home with Harvey anymore a nurse is hired as his nurse and physical trainer. Clair is the positive energy that he needs. And as Harvey notices Gemma dressing up nicer for work and working later he and Clair become closer Both acknowledging the attraction to each other. This is the first book I read in the trilogy. And it can be read as a standalone. I am interested to go back and read the others to see their perspective. I thought this was a good story. Really showing the struggle and how difficult things were for Harvey.
This is the third in this series, although I've read out of sequence and hope it hasn't impacted on the story. This book is from Harvey's perspective and as I'm disabled i related with hope he felt after his accident. Loosing independence and your identity to your limitations and feeling inadequate. I found myself understanding quite alot about how he felt his relationship had changed yet how having Claire as his PT he could talk to her. Pushing Gemma away and keeping her hanging. I enjoyed the premise of the story but at the same time i just felt Gemma had asked for this to happen. I'm going to read the first two books and hope maybe I may understand more. I just seem to have a habit of reading in wrong orders. I hope you'll enjoy it as much
I read the first two books and loved them. It was great to get Harvey's POV, but he still ticked me off even more than in the previous books. Harvey and Gemma (boyfriend and girlfriend) were in a motorcycle accident, which left him paralyzed from the waist down. Harvey starts pushing Gemma away, even blaming her a bit for his situation. I really felt for Gemma. She eventually starts something with her boss. Although Harvey pushed Gemma away, he opened up to his physical therapist, Claire, and they eventually started a relationship.
I did enjoy the book and as I said, it was nice to get Harvey's view since the first two books were from Gemma's and Damon's POV.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The 3rd book of this trilogy was very much needed and I adored the perspective from Harvey and Claire. Once again my heart broke as I read Harvey’s perspective and watched his a Claire’s relationship bloom with much needed context. When i read the first two books Harvey was my villain but now my heart breaks for Harvey and Gemma who broke together. I adored the end of this book and the closure and I won’t give an spoilers but after having my heart utterly broken by the first two I feel that I really needed the final closure I got with the final instalment!! Thank you M.H.B for the opportunity to read the trilogy it’s been an honour!!
This touching story had me empathizing with Harvey as he struggled with his new reality after a motorcycle accident left him immobilized from the waist down. As he grasps with the situation his relationship with Gemma changes and a new woman comes to the forefront. Harvey finds himself caught up in a situation where he has to let go of his past to reach for his chance to find happiness and a future worth living. Do he have what it takes to move forward for his chance of finding happiness. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
Frozen Flames is the last installment of the Hollow Series (Preceded by Silent Screams (#1) & Grieving Graves (#2)). The series follows a young couple, Harvey & Gemma, whose lives are forever changed after a motorcycle accident paralyzes Harvey & the couple falls apart and into the arms of new loves-for Gemma that is her new boss, Damon & for Harvey, it’s his PT, Claire. Books 1 & 2 focus on Gemma & Damon’s story. Book 3 focuses on Harvey & Claire’s story. This is a HEAVY read as it is largely in the perspective of Harvey as he struggles post-paralysis with depression and the breakdown of his relationship with Gemma and conflicting feelings around his undeniable pull towards Claire.
What an emotional end to this story. Harvey and Gemma have struggled since the accident. When Claire gets involved helping Charlie he seems to be a different person around her. This story had lots of conflict and suspense. Storyline was interesting and detailed. Multi layered characters who were relatable. Enjoyed reading this book.
Having broke my back, I can relate to Harvey. I was not paralyzed, but to this day, I'm not 100%! It does take you down! You can't do everything you used to! Relationships suffer, or you become stronger! Harvey and Gemma definitely struggle! Add Claire, and well...
While there were moments of good progress in the storyline, much of the book focused on Harvey's negative feelings, overwhelmingly so. I felt the story was slow going often. I also didn't enjoy the crudeness of Harvey's thoughts. It simply seemed unnecessary.
His changed when he met her but an accident meant he lost her. Now his life is full of anger until he meets another woman. He is now not sure where to go next. Follow his journey to see where it will take him I received an advance copy from hidden gems and is a wonderful tale
I was not a Harvey and Claire fan in the first two books, so I struggled to like them in this one. I just found Harvey hard to like. After the accident, Gemma just didn't stand a chance. I am still not a Claire fan. I would have loved to have had Harvey's POV mixed in the first two books.
Harvey and Claire were not my most loved characters in the other two books. But I loved getting to read Harvey’s pov more than I thought. It made a fantastic read and answered so many of my questions I felt I didn’t get though the other books.. Loved the whole series. Amazing Author 💕
This book was excellent. The real life look at depression, anxiety, and the trauma that comes with adjusting to a new disability felt so emotional and real.
I was not a fan of Harvey and Claire in the other book. This one just sealed the deal for me. Harvey, that's enough of the pity party. Let Gemma go so she can have the life she deserves! Claire isn't a very strong character at all. I understand things can happen; however, you are both adults and can chose NOT to act on things. Still didn't like Harvey even after he got therapy. Yes, bad things happen to good people - doesn't excuse you for placing the blame on others and making their lives miserable. Get over it! Despite knowing Harvey and Claire's side of the story, still didn't like them in the end. I'd love to hear Harvey's brother's story though! He made the book. With all this being said, I did enjoy the book even though I spent 99% mad at the characters! I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
