Not to be a jerk, but I struggle with finding this format to be worth the five bucks. I get that creating this art is time consuming, but with little to no text, I read this in about five mins, and I feel like I waited a month for an ending I was already familiar with. Awesome art but lackluster ending to the greatest universal comic adaptation thus far.
This story was excellent from start to finish, though it did feel a bit short and slightly rushed. That’s not necessarily a flaw, but an extra issue or two could have added even more depth to an already strong narrative. Still, this stands out as the best Universal Monsters story I’ve read so far! It balances focus between the monster and the supporting characters beautifully, making you sympathize with nearly everyone, including Dr. Frankenstein, who’s deeply flawed yet pitiable in his own way. The monster himself carries a “Lennie from Of Mice and Men” quality, innocent yet tragic, which makes you truly feel for him. The artwork is another standout, surreal and emotionally resonant, enhancing the story’s tone and character connections. Overall, I highly recommend the entire book. It’s a haunting, heartfelt read that leaves you wishing there was just a little more. Grade: B+
