When Rosamunde turned thirteen, she had to pass a test from the Faerie Court in order to gain the powers of a witch. But her simple test just got turned on its head when a mysterious old woman appeared and offered her a choice. Rosa can accept the old woman’s offer of forbidden power—or face deadly monsters. A human girl could never deal with magical dangers on her own, but getting help from anyone else is strictly against the rules of the test. Will Rosa risk her life to gain the magic she’s always wanted?

This short story is a prequel to Small Town Witch, book 1 of the Fae of Calaveras trilogy, and can be enjoyed at any point in the series.

A cute short read showing that being faithful and true brings more than trying to cheat as Rosa found out in her witch test.

A good story. Rosa wants to be a witch just like her mom. For this to happen, she needs to pass the test of the Seelie Court. Along the way, a witch attempts to coerce her into accepting magical power from her. It's well written, has a reasonable plot, and, while there are a few moments of terror for Rosa to face, comes to a good conclusion. A potentially delightful story for young teens.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

A teenage girl recounts how she faced a test from the Fae to receive her witch-powers.

Maybe a bit sparse in it's descriptions, or maybe it's just aimed at a younger reading level than caught my attention. I would have liked to have understood what all these different kinds of fae meant to the story world and why she had to be tested by them. It's a coherent tale, don't get me wrong, I'm just not sure it's my cup of tea.

Short story but worth the read. Rosa and Heather are in her bedroom, and she is telling Heather the story of "The Three Tests" that she had to pass. If she passed all three then she could take an oath and a Fae would grant her power.

Compelling journey (literally) to becoming a witch at the tender age of 13! Young Rosa is offered a choice to cheat the witch test...but at what cost? A vivid read with great descriptions. Just long enough to tempt you to read the series!

Just one last test to hold a witches power. How would you do?

A couple of young ladies discuss Rosa's experience. A very pleasant young woman she is who wants to do good in the world.

Witch Test is a cute quirky short story. It was fun to see what Rosa had to do to pass the fae's test. I really liked that Dandelion was incorporated into this tale because it just reinforces his importance in Rosa's life. This was a sweet short story, and gives extra background on Rosa.

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review from the author.

Witch Test is the prequel to the first novel in the Fae of Calaveras County trilogy and it tells the story of Rosa’s quest to become worthy of becoming a witch. Animals and other beings are met, tests are posed and a Fae male becomes Rosa’s sponsor as she becomes witch-worthy. Rosa is 13 in this story.

A little insight into the trials that Rosa experiences. This short story exhibits Rosa's integrity and her desire to pass the test so she can begin training as a witch.

This was a quick read about the main character in the story Witch Hunt. Rosa had to ace a test before getting her powers as a witch from the Fae. This story goes into detail about it and how she makes it. Really well written and allows you to understand this character much better!

This very short and fast read is an introduction to the series, and an introduction to Rosa.
It is written as secrets being shared between two young girls.

I did enjoy it, but I felt there could have been more detail.
It was enough that I will check out Kristen Walker's other writing.
