“But to lean into gravity, clinging to its force how the lichen clings to the rock, clings to the earth, Taking part in another, dependable and depending for all their worth. Is nothing to float among the stars, for what can they tell you of the air that carries you away. Oh, but to be known to the depth that the stone knows the clay.”
J. Harrison’s debut poetry collection is a tender and powerful exploration of grief and relationships and seeing beauty even through the gravity of life . Melancholy and musical, these poems gently invite you to embrace the life that unfolds before you. Here are compelling verses on faith, learning to love, and leaning into the mysteries of the natural world.
J. Harrison grew up among the hills and creeks of lovely Brown County Indiana. She works at a local bookstore and believes deeply in the power of words and stories to shape hearts. Her delight in this world that the Lord has created and her hope of the world to come inspire her to the act of putting her humble words to paper.
Poetry books are sometimes difficult to read. For me, not this one. The title poem drew me in like a faint lullaby drifting out of thick forest. I had to see the rest. It was worth it.
Several of these were very touching to me, like they were written from my own heart, but in words I could not express on my own. That's rare.
Ms. Harrison is showing a vulnerable and hopeful spirit within her beautiful prose. Solus Christus.
