Catnapped: A Pawsitively Purrfect Christmas

Rate this book
What has MINK left under the tree? A missing cat. A pet psychic. And a retired FBI agent.

Carson

I work alone. Always have. Until I get assigned a private job to locate a missing person. Or, as it turns out, a missing feline. May is billed as a pet communicator. I’m skeptical at first. How could I not be? But the more I get to know May, the more I appreciate her unique talent. Solving this mystery is high on my Christmas list, but May is at the very top.

May
I’m not good with people. I’m awkward, talk too much or too little, and inevitably say something totally off topic or out of line. I prefer cats. With them, you always know where you stand. Carson is like that too. We’ve only just met, and he’s huge and gruff and kind of prickly. He’s like a big cat, one I want to learn more about. This case of the missing kitty is just what I need to help a cat in need this Christmas as well as spend time with a man who seems to get me in a way no one else ever has. But will we be more than just this job?

MINK's Cuddle up with your favorite feline for some holiday fun!

"Your weird is my perfect"

Reading this made me realise how much I missed Mink's work omg (the cat supremacy is so real).

I love reading novellas because I eat up how formulaic and fun they are (you know what you're getting)- but Mink's novellas are always such a fun and OTT experience on top of that.

☆3 DNF 28% Telepathy with cats is…different.

I mean I definitely talk to my dogs a whole lot, but they don’t literally talk back to me.
Yet. 😂

It’s been a minute since I read Mink, but this one’s just a little too silly for my mood, maybe. It’s not pnr or a twist on Cinderella, so it just felt a bit off and I was sadly losing interest. There was some funny stuff with Mousy the Snarky Cat, the (truly) crazy cat lady’s super weird mansion, and Mink’s usual brand of grumpy hero being reluctantly cute with a fur baby.

➳❦ “The cat said all that?” I stare down at the fluffy murder cloud in my lap.

Love that descriptor and I’m gonna use it 🙂‍↕️

There is a short summary, but all the details are solely of the unfairness I HATE between the virgin heroine giving ALL her firsts to the hero who is seemingly very experienced giving not a single first in terms of intimacy to her in return. I will litter my review with quotes to do with their intimacy and how much I hated it. This is so I can remember it in future.

Safe
No cheating
Virgin h
No history on H at all, but with all the context clues I will quote below, he is experienced (hence the very low score)
Quote,
“Any other breeds I need to know about?” I ask.
“All of them. We can have daily lessons.”
I lean toward her, my lips grazing hers. “You teach the daytime lessons. I’ll
instruct at night.”
end quote

No OM
Unwanted OW attention (the maid flirted with Carson when he was interrogating her. She put her hand on his shoulder and he said 'don't touch', whilst taking her wrist off of him)
Quote,
“Don’t touch.” Carson’s hand wraps around her wrist. He removes it as if
it’s a tarantula.'
end quote

No stupid third act break up
No gross condom use
HEA

May is a cat whisperer who earns a living easing communication between cats and their humans. She does this to help cat shelters financially. She works alone because she is misunderstood and is treated as the weird cat girl or a scam artist. She is quite a sensitive soul, and very sweet girl. Carson is a retired FBI agent who works missing cases solo and is tasked to find a missing cat, Fitzy, belonging to a rich eccentric woman whom has hired the two of them to find her missing cat. He finds that the subject is not a person but a cat after meeting with the rich cat owner. He also works alone, but quickly smitten with May, he accepts the job and they solve the mystery of the missing cat together.

I liked the mystery, and the one cat Mousy, with whom May talks to. She is there throughout the story with her sassy self, solving the mystery with May and Carson; she is a hoot and the best part of the book. I liked May as well, because the feeling of being an outcast is familiar to me, so I felt close to her. Also I love cats as well. I like Carson partly. He is unwavering in his love for May. He is warm, defensive, understanding, and sweet to her and accepts openly and quickly that she indeed talks to cats and they talk back to her. I love that he spoils their cat companion with toys and snacks. I love their chemistry that could have been so magical...if she got to be HIS first. That is my only, but BIG gripe, is I hate that he is seemingly very experienced in sex, and since she isn't at all, he get ALL her firsts, but she does not get ANY of his. I HATE that so much, it is infuriating to me! Incessantly, we are reminded that dating him is her first date, kissing him was her first kiss, fucking him was her first time, but when I was anxiously waiting for him to say that SHE is HIS first everything, that she gets to claim him physically, and that there were no other women before her. That is not the case and that is what soured the whole book!😡🤬

Quote,
“I’m not around a lot of men, or whatever.” I should stop talking. Maybe
glue my mouth shut so I can’t speak for a very long time. “Or people. You
know, doing the whole ‘talking to people’ or ‘being with people’ or just, I
mean, you know, ‘peopling,’ so I don’t, um, I haven’t … It’s not like a big
thing. I’m not forty or anything yet, and it wouldn’t be a big deal if I were
forty. Some people never do that, of course. Some people are happy by
themselves, you know? It’s not–”
“May.” Carson takes my elbow, pulling me toward him. “As pretty as you
are when you blush, there is no reason to be embarrassed.” He quickly puts
me at ease as I stare into his eyes that have gone soft on me.
“Okay,” I whisper out. Did he just call me pretty? Is Mousey right? Would
he want to help me with that? My mind is racing now. My eyes go to his
mouth. I lick my lips. “I’ve never been kissed either.”
end quote
Quote,
"She’s never been kissed. This is her first. I want it for myself. I’m fucking
greedy for it."
end quote
I hate that it wasn't followed by an "you are my first too, May". Is fairness too much to ask for?? The double standards are too much!

Quote,
“This place is really nice.”
Carson flicks his eyes around the loft like he’s taking it in for the first time
and shrugs. “It works for what I need it for.”
"I shift on my feet suddenly, feeling uncomfortable. I’m unsure of what he
means by “what he needs it for.” Is it some sort of bachelor pad? The
thought alone makes my stomach turn."
end quote
So that was never answered. Was it his fuck pad? I can only assume so.

Quote,
“I’m getting a lot of your firsts,” he says against my lips. I tilt my mouth
back up, hoping to kiss him more."
end quote
I hate that it isn't reciprocated, by him. I wish he said something like, ..'you are the only woman I have ever been with in any way. I am all yours as you are all mine.' Just a few words would have transformed this story into a really enjoyable one.

Quote,
“I want my dessert now.”
My back hits a soft mattress, Carson coming down over me.
“What?” I try to catch my breath. “You want to eat?” Heck, I don’t even
know what happened to the damn to-go bag. And how can he even be
thinking about food? I can’t concentrate on anything else but what’s going
on between us.
“You, babe. I want to fucking eat you.”
“Oh.” I snort a laugh. “Right.”
“So fucking cute,” he mutters before he’s kissing me again.....
“Best dessert I’ve ever had. Addicting. I need another taste.”
end quote
Might as well equate that this is the best pussy he has ever had. 🤢🤮🤬That is what I got from that scene. That part could have been sexy, if it were his first time too. This solidifies the fact that he has eaten pussy before, so I hated it SO MUCH!

Quote,
"I had no idea what I'd been missing out on for all these
years when it came to kissing, but I bet kisses with some fumbling teenage
boy in high school would have never matched these. I’m glad I saved it for
Carson; his kisses are worth remembering."
end quote

Quote,
“I can get a lot done in thirty minutes.” She taps her screen to enlarge a
photo of our quarry.
“So can I.” I press my lips to her shoulder."
end quote
OK! So you fuck and she doesn't!! How is this sexy when we know that you know this from experience???

Quote,
“Thank you for
making my first time feel special.”
“If anyone should be giving thanks, it’s me. You gave me another gift with
your trust.”
end quote
She saved EVERY ONE OF HER FIRSTS FOR HIM, without getting ANY OF HIS in return! FUCK THAT!

Nothing is said of his past verbatum, but as you can see from the fuck ton of context clues that show that he fucked before, to me the intimacy and the sex scenes were anger inducing, because for him, it seems like May is just another cunt to fuck. To her it feels like it is a magical experience. Yes his inner monologue seems like he is enamored and the sex is life changing for him, but knowing it isn't his first time, it just seems like she was one of many. The unfairness of an experienced hero paired with a virgin heroine makes me so mad, and ruined my enjoyment of the book. It robs us of the woman claiming her man the same way he claims her! It robs us of the fantasy, that no other woman other than her knows her man intimately! Also it means that they don't equate sex with love, which is such a turn off because to me, sex/intimacy in romance is an act that you experience ONLY with someone you fall in love with. The only person the hero should ever fall in love with is his heroine and vice versa. That is why I HATE experienced heroes and none DV romance. If you are going to have an inexperienced heroine, then for the love of God, let her claim her man fully in terms of intimacy and sex!
There were questions she had that weren't even answered! Like how did he treat the other women he has been with. She knows there were others before her and NONE of these questions were answered or disputed!
Quote,
"The sight is erotic but also a reminder that we hadn’t
used protection. It had never even occurred to me. I’m new at this. What is
Carson’s excuse? My stomach turns. Is this normal for him? Has he not
used protection with others in the past?"
end quote

Quote,
“You little freak,” I tease.
“I’ll show you how much later.” He winks, causing my cheeks to heat up.
I’m not sure if it’s arousal or shyness. I’m sure a hint of both. Beyond the
pages of a book, I know nothing about kink."
end quote
He knows his kinks apparently, and did not discover them or indulge in them with her for the first time from what I can read between the lines!!

Quote,
"Like a virginal dork, I blush, ducking my head to
make my hair hide my reaction. Well, I guess I should say ex-virgin."
end quote
Fuck I hate this.

His first is 'falling in love and wanting forever". *huff in frustration* I hate experienced heroes. The inexperienced heroine is not special at all when paired with one. Just another cunt to fuck he happens to fall in love with. The thing is, MINK wrote DV couples that have explosive sex and intense chemistry!
There is a DV from MINK with a talking cat, "Crazy Love". Slade is the hero and he tells the h that he is a virgin and that he studied the art of giving pleasure and wants her with him because he loves her. Also Walter the cat is so sassy in the book. Another DV with a gentle giant called "Unexpected Love", also by MINK has Fernando as the fearsome hero , who is just so dreamy, because the only woman he ever touched, the only woman that gets to touch him EVER, is his Bianca. These two are my favorites, that I have read countless times because the heroines gets to claim all her man's firsts just like he claims all of hers. Now these two books I recommend. There is another book that I would call DV adjacent, called "Sweet Psycho" by MINK. There is no history on the H, but from all the context clues, you can assume that his woman is his one and only! Now, these three books I recommend. This one, I do not.
If they both gave their firsts to each other in "Catnapped", then this would have been an instant 5 star book placed at the top of my reread list. This book could have been so special, but because of the inequality in terms of sex and intimacy between the hero and the heroine, I will not reread it.
GIVE THE HEROINE THE GIFT OF HER MAN'S FIRSTS!

“Catnapped” is the story of May and Carson.

A sweet holiday romance with an ex FBI detective and a cat psychic, who are hired by an heiress to find her missing kitty. There’s loads of hilarious cat banter, adventures, drama, sweet romance and a heartwarming ending.

I love a good cat story, but this one didn’t do it for me sadly. I just had a hard time sticking with this one even though I did finish it. I enjoyed the two main characters, but the storyline was kinda odd…

Carson & May

A little flighty and whimsical - just like May! The instant attraction is very strong in this one. Just like I like it! Carson and May seem like total opposites and yet they fit together and work together perfectly. This is mostly lighthearted, short, sweet and steamy. A great quick Christmas read.

I almost forgot how much I absolutely adore Mink's stories until I sunk my claws into this purr-fectly succulent morsal. Now I remember clearly how utterly amazing and beautifully magnificent her words and heart are, and how they never fail to delight and entertain me!

This newest story is a delicious mystery wrapped in a undeniable and dazzling little romance. The characters are undeniably fun and wickedly intriguing as we get to know them. All the while the plot wraps your heart around both of them and never lets up on the intensity or the feelings. Catnapped is the purr-fect read for a cold, wintery night. Be sure to wrap up in a warm blanket with a hot drink and your favorite furry friend.

I have always loved books written by MINK. This one is a quick read and made me giggle and smile as I read it. This book is super adorable and I love it!!!

Carson is hired to find a missing cat 😽 and work with May to find him. The moment he laid eyes on her, he felt an instant connection. He had initially planned to walk away from the job, as he looks for missing people, but one captivating glance from May changed everything. May finds him very handsome and tall. She has the ability to communicate with cats.

I liked this story a lot. It was entertaining and enjoyable with quite a few laughs. I really love the books where people can hear what the cats are saying like this and “Crazy Love”. Mousey (Princess Mousey) cracked me up several times. I also got a kick out of May’s reactions to what she said. Carson seemed to get a kick out of it too. One of my favorite bits was when Mousey told May what the droopy flowers were. Then May told Carson what Mousey told her which was followed by a great line about how much of something was in the room! Carson was kind of floored by May. She was a bit off kilter with Carson but that was to be expected since he wasn’t a cat. I loved how he was so supportive of her. Their happily ever after made me smile. I recommend reading this book.

I loved how quirky this one was! May was a fun and loving version of doctor dolittle for cats, and Carson was her perfect match who just so happened to give grumpy cat energy in a male form. The story was fast paced and very easy to read while giving us a little mystery of who dunnit.

This book was fun and so sweet thanks to May and Carson’s adorable chemistry with each other. They couldn’t keep their paws off each other, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise ending for everyone. Don’t get me started on how well Mousey fit into the storyline as well. I didn’t know talking to cats would be so good.😂💕

Carson and May couldn't be more opposite if they tried. That's why they are purrfect for each other. He is serious and no nonsense while she talks to cats and thinks she's weird. They need to work together to find His Royal Highness Fitzroy Windsor St. John FuzzyBottom IV and return him to Mrs. Farrol. Carson also needs to show May that she is meant to be his in every way.

Cute story that had a twist in the end.

A great Christmas gift from MINK!!!

A wonderful new book from Mink that is purrfect for reading during the holidays. It’s been a while since we have a new book from Mink. This one hits the spot. It has kittens, actions and some funny moments. You have a great MMC, Carson, that is just purrfect to the FMC, May. I love May’s special ability. The side characters, specially Moussy are great too.

I highly recommend this wonderful book.

Very very sweet

I love Mink!

You settle in and just enjoy the story!

They're never nasty nor are they boring...and just enough smexy to keep you smiling 😉

I loved Carson and May! I'm a big old sucker for instalove so this book hit just right.

Just enough drama none of those boring of nothing pages, some authors insist on making us suffer through.

We got to enjoy Carson & May as a couple as well as enjoy a solid back story.

Perfect nighttime read!

Carson and May, a storyline that is oh so quirky it had me smiling. She communicates with cats, he is a loner, a retired FBI agent who sees her and wants her.

I liked it but did not love it as much as her mafia ones where the H is an OTT possessive/obsessive alpha. I felt the missing pet story and suspense took too much screen time in such a short story and romance did not get the center page esp with how lame it all turned out to be and no danger at all. I miss the old Mink. I hope she writes the next one sooner and better

I’m not sure how Mink knew this is what I wanted for Christmas … but I loved it!
I love that Mink books always have some kind of feline companion in them. This one was even better! May could actually understand the cats, she’s a pet psychic. So adorable. Carson was grumpy and determined to work alone. But in the end … love and kitties won him over. I love Mink books, they just make me happy.

I missed the stories of MINK. This book has a very good, funny plot with a sassy cat, a lost royal feline. May and Carso met by cogency when they took the job to find Fitzy, but from the first moment the attraction was great. And so those two ended up solving the mystery, they also found love.

I guess 2 stars for creativity 🤷‍♀️...not sure I enjoy having a talking cat as one of the main characters. Also was in the mood for a Christmas story but besides for a descriptive wreath at the beginning there was very little mention of Christmas in this.
