TWO CHANCES: A Second Chance Romance
Will Dr Justin Drummond believe estranged wife Anna's almost five-year-old twins are his?Five years earlier the loss of their son, soon after delivery, devastates them. Justin's refusal to try again – ever, is the ultimate betrayal and catalyst for their separation. He books a vasectomy six weeks after the funeral, without discussion, which drives Anna to do the unthinkable. With their marriage in crisis she escapes to Australia. She accepts a new role still within the medical arena, hoping to shock Justin into following her. He doesn't.
Soon after arriving Anna discovers she's pregnant. Unphased she keeps the exciting news of a secret child from Justin, which is wrong on so many levels. But becoming a mother to twins is an even bigger lie to keep. Over the years guilt has eaten at her. Even though she tries to justify her actions she should’ve told him sooner. As time goes by it seems easier to say nothing. However, breast cancer forces her to re-evaluate who should be responsible for their children’s future care. Anna knows she has to face Justin. He’s their biological father and legal guardian; for him to agree to take them, should the inconceivable happen to her, he’d need to know of their existence—first.
Her only choice is to move back home to small town New Zealand, where she has the support of close friends. Upon her return she discovers Justin’s engaged and going overseas. Signing his divorce papers is but a legal formality. Discovering she still loves him isn't a surprise but being stuck in a drama filled love triangle is not for her. Her desires are secondary as the children’s needs have always been her priority.
Two Chances explores messy relationships and family dynamics; it’s a roller-coaster of emotional growth with touches of humor. There are parents, in-laws, and children. There are pets. There are interesting secondary characters.
This second chance romance, with a happy-ever-after reconciliation is unputdownable.

This beautifully written story by Gaylene Atkins is a winner! The author captivates the reader from the first page with her characters, Justin and Anna. Their marriage disintegrated after they lost their first baby resulting in Anna’s escape to Australia. She returns to her New Zealand hometown five years later to find Justin has moved on. Gaylene Atkins 5-star Bk 1, “Two Chances”, is an emotional romance novel from beginning to end. It follows the lives of two highly skilled doctors whose marriage is thrown apart by the death of their child. Their love is tested by loss, distance, courage, and the power of second chances, as it explores feelings recognised by us all.
Grief in so many different ways is powerful here, separation and courage is not only for them but also for others in their lives, and, as all great romance novels must ultimately end with, redemption is achieved through the power of love.
But how? You have to read “Two Chances” to find out, as it is a story that touches nerves of past memories - despair, growth, romance, happiness and so much more. It will remind you that even during and after the darkest of storms, love is the power that brings light back into our lives.
