Thank you so much to the author and the author agency for the #gifted e-ARC!

I love a brothers best friend trope and this was executed perfectly! Stefanie has hit every single book in this series out of the park and I’m happy to say this was an easy 5 stars as well!

I loved Baylee with my whole heart. She’s young, but so wise beyond her years and not to mention strong for coming out the other side after everything she’s been through! Her loyalty to Tucker was undeniable from the beginning. You could just feel the chemistry the two had as well as hilarious flirtatious banter.

I wasn’t sure after reading the previous books how I was going to feel about Tucker, but I ended up really loving and enjoying his character! He is so fierce in showing his feelings and love not only to Baylee, but his friends and his family too. I really enjoyed the storyline about his mom. So many moments in this book broke my heart but the ending was perfect!

All the side characters and characters from previous books making steady appearances throughout was so enjoyable! I love seeing what everyone else is up to. They all bring a nice depth and they make you want such a close knit friend group of your own!

Another amazing book in the series down for Stefanie! This can definitely be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend all my book besties start from the very beginning of the series to get the full enjoyment! They’re all 5 stars and totally addicting!

I am so happy that Tucker got his story and HEA. ❤️ Him and Baylee, since the end of the last book, have been on my highly anticipated upcoming reads list. Their story was an emotional one. It handles a lot of heavy emotions around a couple of hard topics and had me tearing up a couple of times. To me, it also had a few villains which each had their own section of the book- a true villain, one who is an unsuspecting villain (which the afterword touches on) and a metaphorical villain. Each contributing to the story and how Baylee and Tucker’s story play out.

The found family, the camaraderie of their group, the new character, it all added fun to the story❤️

“Sometimes it’s in the time of darkness that we find our clarity.”

With the age gap and brother's best friend tropes I just knew I was going to love this story. What I didn't expect was to find the main characters so relatable in completely different ways. There's so much that can be said about these characters and their stories, and I could probably be here a while talking about them so I'll try to highlight what I liked the most.

I honestly loved how real Baylee was. The way that the author showed us how she lost herself while in an abusive relationship but she didn't even realize this until she received some exciting news about her future but knew that he would not be excited or happy for her. I enjoyed seeing her journey to finding herself again and how Malloy was always there supporting her. Malloy also has my whole heart because I know what it's like to live what he's living with his mom. I'll just leave it at that or I could go on forever on this.

It took Baylee and Malloy a minute to voice and give into their feelings for each other, mainly because of Danny which is a whole other story and I honestly would love to see inside his head, but I digress. Now, the moment these two finally got together, I swear they were at it like rabbits. But even though they couldn't keep their hands off each other, their relationship was not purely physical. Their love and feelings ran much deeper.

I also loved seeing new people added to the group of friends and how their shenanigans just keep getting wilder and more fun. But Stefanie, ma'am, we need to have a serious conversation about Danny.

Quote: “Tucker Malloy, I’ve loved you since the moment I understood the meaning of the word. And I’ll love you as strongly on my last day on this Earth. Nothing will change that.”

Embers in the Dark is a contemporary romance that follows the romance of Malloy (Tucker) and Baylee. Baylee is the younger sibling of Tucker's best friend, Danny. Tucker's friendship with Danny comes to a head when he must choose between his attraction to Baylee and his friendship with Danny. He ends up choosing the friendship which in the long run doesn't benefit him due to Danny being an over protective older brother.

Baylee is in college working towards getting her degree to be a physical therapist. She gets an opportunity to switch schools to do a dual major which is amazing! Taking this opportunity means leaving behind friends and her current boyfriend. I will say this... Please check your TW before diving into this book because it shines a light on domestic violence, the trauma after, and dealing with an abusive insistent ex long after the abuse occurs.

Tucker comes to Baylee's aide and gives her a sanctuary all the while dealing with his own family stuff. He provides not only a safe space but shows Baylee what love looks like over time.

There is one scene which had me in stitches with laughter because Tucker gets caught listening to an audiobook.

Overall, a decent read, it did get a bit laggy near the end and I felt maybe some bits could have been cut or tightened up. I also felt some of the intimate scenes were a bit rushed. But take that with a grain of salt. Trigger warnings aside if you're looking for a sweet friends to lovers, best friend's little sister read this checks the boxes.

Baylee is about ten years younger than her brother’s best friend, and she’s been in love with him as long as she can remember. The summer before her senior year of college, she decided it was time to let him know how she felt, but on the way to doing so overheard him accepting a date with another woman. Crushed, Baylee flees back to her off campus housing where she meets someone else who’s toxic.

Nearly a year later, Tucker is shocked when Baylee calls him for help but rushes unquestionably to help her after a vicious attack from her ex-boyfriend. Feeling protective of Baylee, who he’s loved for some time but never acted upon it out of loyalty to her brother, he not only rescues her, but agrees when she requests to become his roommate.

Time spent together leads to intimacy, and they must hash things out with Baylee’s brother.

All in all, this was an okay New Adult, brother’s best friend romance, but I would’ve liked more of a connection between the MCs beyond “it’s always been them”. The book is part of a series, but billed as a standalone, although I imagine it would’ve been more enjoyable had I read the prior books in the series.

I received an advance reader copy from The Author Agency, and I’m sharing my honest review.

🔥age gap
🔥it’s always been you

Malloy gets his book & the girl 😍. I was half in love with Malloy before reading this book! He’s this big lovable teddy bear with a heart of gold! Baylee is Malloy’s best friends little sister. They were always close till Baylee overhears a conversation and pulls away, but when she needs him most he drops everything to go to her.
The banter between not just Baylee & Malloy but the whole friend group always has me laughing so much in this series. The chemistry tho….. my oh my did Baylee & Malloy have some off the charts chemistry! It was a constant push and pull between these 2 till they give in! I loved this book so much it was filled with fun banter, emotional moments, and spice!

Oh how I adore the big red-haired teddy bear of a man, Tucker Malloy! His character is top tier with his care and concern of his best friend’s little sister, showing restraint that is needed, giving Baylee all the support she needs and then when the friends turn to lovers, brings all the spice! And although Malloy was my favorite character, Baylee’s confidence and sass should be commended—overcoming diversity and choosing to go after what she wants (which also happens to include Tucker). The cameos and friendship of previous characters (the twins and their spouses!) in this series were such a great touch and provided lots of humor too. I just absolutely love this series, each book is so special. 4.5 stars

Book three in the Boston Embers series. Best friend little sister never looked this good. Baylee has been in love with her brother every friend. Tucker doesn’t want to loose his friendship with he’s best friend. So he does what he wants him to do. Stay away from her and move on. Till one horrible night both their life get turn around. Now they fight to be together and over come that horrible night that changed the outcome of their life together. Epic book.

Oh my heart! I don’t know what it is but recently I’ve been choosing emotional books to read. I felt anger, sadness, and love throughout this book. Baylee and Tucker were so absolutely cute together but also quite hot. There were certain characters I wanted to punch in the face. But the friend group, with all of the banter, made me laugh so hard. Needless to say, I absolutely LOVED this book!! ❤️❤️❤️

"Look at that...From the look of those goosebumps on your arms and the way you're breathing - I'd say I'm someone."

Baylee and Tucker have known each other their entire lives. She's loved him in secret and just when it seemed like they were going to connect, her brother walks in and fate takes them in another direction. After a year of little to no contact, Baylee calls Tucker when she is attacked and he comes to help her.

Baylee is young and yet so mature. I love that she is a woman with a plan, goals, and is brave enough to change course when it's time. Tucker is a decade older than Baylee, a firefighter, and a good friend. He's also into smutty books so I was sold. I love the new trend of our MMCs reading the books we read! These two are so cute together and the way he supports her top notch romance.

The book moved along well for the most part. It was great getting some scenes inside the fire house with Tucker's crew. Their friends were funny, supportive, and encouraging. Lots of spice in this book and once it started it was nonstop and I think we probably got an insight into every time they were intimate after that.

Two heavy topics in this book are domestic violence (not our MMC) and terminal illness. They were both handled with care and realism. Baylee goes into therapy afterwards and Tucker is very supportive and understanding.

Tropes include:
*friends to lovers
*brothers best friend
*forced proximity
*firefighter
*found family
*big family

"The minute our lips connect, it's like she's my forever."

I received an ARC of this book for free and my review is voluntary. Thank you to Stefanie Castro and The Author Agency for this opportunity!

✨ARC REVIEW✨

"Tucker Malloy, I’ve loved you since the moment I understood the meaning of the word. And I’ll love you as strongly on my last day on this Earth. Nothing will change that.

There is almost nothing I love more than a book that makes me laugh out loud, cry unexpectedly, or scream into the void—and Embers in the Dark did all three. This was my first introduction to Stefanie Castro’s Boston Embers series (book 3, for the record), and I can guarantee I’ll be devouring the first two immediately.

Stefanie masterfully balances grief and joy, tension and tenderness, in a way that feels both intense and deeply comforting. This story follows Malloy and Baylee—two characters who are hopelessly in love, but held back by a ten-year age gap, a mountain of unspoken feelings, and Bay’s infuriatingly overprotective brother.

Their journey is one of healing, heartbreak, and hope. While I wouldn’t call this a traditional slow burn, the emotional buildup is so rich and well-executed that you feel every year they’ve spent denying what was always there. There’s trauma, yes—but also soft touches, long-awaited kisses, and laughter that cuts through the pain like sunlight.

From first dates to hard truths to an ending that made my chest ache in the best way, this book delivers it all:
💥 A romance that feels real, raw, and relentlessly tender
💥 Grief that brings tears without feeling heavy
💥 A found family that’s so hilarious, it’s practically its own love story

If you’re a fan of contemporary romance, fiercely lovable characters, and love stories that make your heart race and your soul feel seen—do yourself a favor and pick up this book. You’ll fall for Malloy and Baylee, but more than that, you’ll fall for the entire world Stefanie Castro has built within the Boston Embers universe.

College student Baylee and firefighter Tucker have known each other since they were young. He’s 10 years older than her, but her brother’s best friend. Baylee and Tucker have a sort of falling out when he goes on a date just to shut up her brother. She sees this as he is not interested in her, so she starts dating someone. This person makes her change onto someone who she isn’t. When she tells him she gets the opportunity of her life to change schools and move back to Boston, she jumps on it. While telling him, he isn’t happy and she ends up hurt in more ways than one. The person she calls to rescue her is Tucker and he is there in a heart beat.
She moves in with him and while she is there some tension at first and then when they finally realize that it’s always been each other they start their relationship. Things move very quickly they both help each other through some of the toughest things they have to go through. Him its dealing with mother’s health issues and her its overcoming the pain she dealt with from her ex boyfriend.
There is some fun banter between Tucker, and his friends and then Baylee and Tucker. If you want to laugh at watching a big burly firefighter reading smut, and watching reality shows then this is the book for you. There is a lot of good moments in this book and it’s very well written. I will warn there are some warnings that you should look into first before reading this book, while they play a small part in the book, it’s not throughout the book whole book. Be warned, his big he’s pierced and he’s sexy. There will be spice I hope you enjoy!

Well, it's only been a couple of months since I read Embers In Our Past, so I'm still to catch up with the first book in this series - but here, already, is the third book in the Boston Embers series and having absolutely loved book 2, I knew I just had to grab this one and continue reading.

This book again was such a joy to read.

Although these are set in the same world, this is perfectly fine to read as a standalone.

Here we go us in Baylee and Tucker's story.

I'm not the biggest fan of age gap romances as such - but it's easy to put this aside and just focus on the fact that Baylee is the forbidden "sister of my best friend" for Tucker.

It's easy to see where this book was heading, but there were so many moments that I just wasn't sure how this would pay out.

I loved both our characters - Tucker definitely redeeming himself from what I'd been led to believe previously - Baylee just fun and loyal to the end.

The pair had such great chemistry right from the off and the banter had me chuckling away throughout.

We do come across some of the other characters through the series, but this is done so well.

It's not essential to this storyline at all, but it was also great to see thwm and have that little update on how things have been since we saw them last.

This was another brilliant read - I just love the writing style and the ease with which I can just immerse myself into this world and race through the pages.

I already can't wait to see what book 4 holds in store for us!!

Tucker is a firefighter for the Boston Fire Department and is Baylee’s older brother’s best friend, which is one of my favorite tropes because I love the forbidden aspects of it.

Baylee is in college in Connecticut to become a physical therapist and gets the opportunity to transfer to a college back in Boston. Things take a turn when she breaks up with her current boyfriend and he becomes aggressive. And who does she call to help? Tucker.

I loved Baylee so much. I thought she was such a strong fmc, who came out on the other side after being emotionally and physically abused by her boyfriend. Tucker was there for her when she needed him. He saved her, protected her and loved her.

Tucker is such a teddy bear, and I loved him. He cares deeply about Baylee, his family and friends. My heart broke for him and his family, but I enjoyed how Tucker’s mom’s cancer brought depth to their story.

I despise Baylee’s brother, Danny, so freaking much. As Baylee said, if Tucker makes Baylee happy, shouldn’t Danny be happy that she’s with someone who loves her and cherishes her?

I loved all the previous characters and the banter and friendship they bring to each conversation. I love how supportive they are of each other and how close knit they are. There’s so much chemistry between Tucker and Baylee that it radiates off the pages. I devoured this book! I couldn’t get enough of the two of them and their relationship.

Baylee has had a crush on her brothers best friend Tucker since she was old enough to know what a crush was but she’s convinced it’s one sided. When her life implodes, Tucker is the first person she calls and he races to be with her. Now they’re living together and Tucker can’t hide how he feels about her anymore. But Tucker made a promise to his best friend to stay away from her so how will he react when he finds out? And will the issues both are dealing with bring them closer together or tear them apart?

This is another series that I haven’t read the previous books for but will definitely be circling back to them at some point! I really liked this one. It covered some pretty heavy topics but I feel like they were well written and not used for dramatic effect like I’ve seen a few times before. It made my heart hurt in some places and fixed it in others. But don’t get me started on Baylee’s brother because I can’t even with him!! He acted like a literal child throughout the book (and in the previous book at least from what I can gather) and he deserves to be miserable and alone! I’m excited for Hunters book now!!

*ARC Review*

Baylee and Malloy were everything I wanted and needed and I couldn’t get enough of them.

Baylee is strong af and I absolutely adored her. I felt for her and the trauma she experienced, and I was so happy to see her pull through and not let that define her. Watching her get her fire and her fierceness back after her ordeal was empowering and I loved that she put herself back in control and went after what she truly wanted.

Malloy, sweet sweet teddy bear Malloy. From first meeting him in Embers in our Past, I was intrigued by Malloy. His love for reality TV is hilarious and his friendship with Kennedy, Abby and little baby Ella is the sweetest. I was especially interested in his feelings for Baylee and I’m so glad we got his story. Baylee called Malloy when she needed him and he didn’t hesitate to come and be by her side and be her rock through it all. The way he stood up for his girl was 🔥.

Their friendship was so sweet and I loved how Malloy really stepped up to be the man she needed after her POS ex. When he finally stood up to her brother I was screaming!! Because they were such good friends, they had an amazing emotional connection which led to an explosive physical connection. Malloy was super hot and he really surprised me with how dirty he was - I was so here for it.

I enjoyed the snippet for book four and I can’t wait to read it!

Brother’s best friend trope is always a favorite of mine. This may be my all time favorite book along those lines.

Despite a ten year age gap, there’s always been a connection with Baylee and Tucker. Undeniable chemistry and they almost pursue. Unfortunately, trying to steer his best friend away from knowing how he feels about his sister, Tucker’s actions unknowingly causes her to pull away from him. Therefore, leading her into an unhealthy relationship.

Baylee is strong, wise beyond her years and ambitious. She wants to be a physical therapist. However, she loses herself and watching her rediscover herself, with the help of Tucker, was beautifully written.

Tucker, our fire fighter, has had it bad for Baylee for a while. He is/has been dealing with his mother’s health issues. He loves his family and friends hard. He is loyal and hardworking. A dream boat!

The flirtatious banter between these two was top tier. The friend group was fun too. I really enjoyed how Tucker and Baylee’s story unfolded.

heartwarming and spicy

I was so happy when Malloy got his book! He’s is the fun friend willing to always help even if he’s not comfortable. We got to know him in the second book and I was in love with him then. From page one I just knew I would love him even more by the end.

Baylee has liked Malloy since she was younger as he is hers brothers bff but she always felt it could ever happen till feelings start but Malloy threw that away in one night after going on a date because of her brother little did she know the real reason behind that. When Baylee calls him late one night he jumps to her rescue and their relationship changes from there on. No longer afraid to hide what they both want we get so much deeper into what makes them who they are. I can’t express the emotions I felt throughout this story. Mixed in with the hurt and sadness you get that perfect balance of spicy and fun banter to bring their story to life even more!

What a great job and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book with Hunter!

This was one of those gorgeous books that was the perfect mix, a sweet romance, laugh out loud moments, hilarious banter, dark moments, grief, sadness, anger, it has it all with the author interweaving it all so well together.

This is not just a love story, it's a journey between two people who always belonged together & always loved each other yet life & others stood in the way, all of this made it a more emotional read with so much history, past hurt, pain & love influencing everything.

Baylee & Tucker are two characters that you can't help but love & root for, they fit so perfectly bringing out the very best in each other. The supporting characters were such a big part of this story for me, I loved the relationship they all had with each other, the mini groups (book club, reality TV watch parties, betting on everything & anything and constantly winding each other up.

Embers In The Dark is feel-good, emotion filled read with lovable characters, perfect for fans of a contemporary romance that pulls at your heartstrings, has you laughing out loud & leaves you with misty eyes.

I received an advanced copy from the author, all thoughts are my own.

This series was amazing from book one and has sustained that the entire time. The Brother's best friend trope is one of my favorites to read. Let's be honest, I have a lot of favorites. And this was done perfectly. Bailey may be young, but she's so mature and wise for her age. I loved reading how Bailey handled her feelings with Tucker between the chemistry and the banter. I was hooked on this book and was able to devour it from the beginning to the end, wanting to never let go and to continue on with the series. Being able to see all the characters and the side characters from previous books makes the read even more enjoyable for me. I really like being able to touch base with those that I've become connected to as I read throughout the series. While you don't have to read the books in order, I do think that it gives you the best reader's experience if you do. Overall, needless to say, I loved this book and I look forward to more with this author.

I am enjoying each book in this series. I love a good brother's best friend, and Malloy delivered.

Let’s first start with Baylee, as we open the book, she is struggling. But she makes the solid decision to get out of a toxic/abusive relationship. We also spend some time in her head. If this is a trigger for you, please make the choice that is right for you. The author takes the time and care to show Baylee’s realization of her situation, as well as her friends' support, particularly Malloy's, through the aftermath of her decision.

The storyline is good, addictive, and held my attention. Malloy is a firefighter, and his teammates provide the fun, but it is Baylee’s brother, Danny, who I have issues with! I am not sure if his story will be told. Baylee may be young, but she knows what and who she wants, and it is Malloy.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

“You are the epitome of strength, Firefly”

The Brothers Best friend trope is by far superior to all the tropes and Embers in the Dark DELIVERED!! It needs to be said how freaking amazing and hilarious the friend group is in this series. Omg the banter between them all is fantastic! The scene at the fire house with Rivers shirt is so AWESOME😂😅😂
Baylee has loved Tucker her whole like and her brother Rio hates her for it. After enduring an abusive relationship she ends up living with Tucker. The chemistry they have together is undeniably hot!!
Im in love with Tucker! His no nonsense personality is absolutely hilarious. After trying to keep distance from Baylee he has the F IT moment we all love 💗 I love them together so much! Oh And Rio sucks but I kinda hope he gets his own book 😏
Highly recommend this whole series I cannot wait for the next book!!

This third installment of Stefanie’s Boston Embers series is another completely captivating story that I just adored. I’d wanted Tucker Mallory’s story nearly immediately after meeting him previously in the series and Embers in the Dark did not disappoint!

Malloy and Baylee are childhood neighbors and he has been her brother’s best friend for most of their lives. As adults, an attraction develops — though her brother Danny has warned Malloy off of his sister, who is 10 years younger but no less enticing to Tucker.

When circumstances find them as roommates — and then more — the story becomes emotional and spicy in equal measure. It’s one full of depth, so much amazing banter, an incredible found family and a love story for the ages.

I just love this series and this book cements that feeling for me. It’s great — can’t recommend it enough!

This book was heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. Stefanie Castro takes you on an emotional journey with Baylee and Tucker—a story full of pain, healing, and the kind of love that gives you chills.
Baylee’s story brings a lot of feelings to the surface. If you have triggers around mental or physical abuse, definitely tread carefully. That said, her journey is written in a way that really showcases her strength and resilience. Watching her grow, find her voice, and reclaim her power was inspiring.
And the love story? Absolutely stunning. The connection between Baylee and Tucker Malloy gave me goosebumps. Their relationship felt so real and powerful—the kind that lifts you up while still giving space to heal.
This was a beautiful, raw, and empowering read. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a romance with real depth, emotional growth, and a healthy dose of spice.

I really enjoyed this read!
It was fun and engaging! I liked all the characters both Main and side! The plot was well thought out and executed perfectly!
I didn’t always love the FMC Baylee, she came across as immature at times but she grew on me by the end.
I thought she was very strong throughout her past with her EX.
The MMC Tucker however I loved from the beginning and that never stopped! He was so supportive and protective without being over the top or aggressive with it! And not to mention the mouth on that man 😅🥵
And That little snippet of the next book 👀 I’m so excited to read it!
Overall a great easy and relaxing read!

Thank you to Stephanie Castro, her team and The Author Agency for sending me an ARC for this book!

No 3 in the Boston Embers series.

A beautiful, emotional romance about healing and finding the kind of love that builds you up.

A story of contrasts: Baylee’s past relationship was abusive and controlling, but Tucker is the complete opposite—kind, steady, and genuinely supportive. He sees her, encourages her dreams, and values her for exactly who she is.
She’s his safe place too, especially as he deals with his mom’s illness. Their love is mutual, healing, and full of quiet strength.

Good thing Tucker’s a firefighter—'cause the heat these two are serving could burn the whole block down!"

Loved catching up with the rest of the crew—and seriously, what’s going on with Tyler and Indy? 👀 I need more!

4/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️

Age gap
Firefighter
Forced (?) proximity

Embers in the Dark is the first book I’ve read by Stefanie Castro. It’s the third book in her Boston Embers series. Typically I don’t read a lot of firefighter romance, but this book had me definitely reconsidering.
This story follows the story of Baylee and Tucker over a couple of years. Tucker is the ‘older brother’s best friend’, and older brother has gone so far as to get Tucker to date someone else just to keep him away from his sister. In true romance book fashion, this backfires, but not before a traumatic event happens to Baylee that brings them together living in Tucker’s home. This book had amazing emotional moments, and you could truly feel what the characters were going through.
Definitely a great book, and I look forward to reading more of Stefanie Castro’s books in the future.

Beautifully done. Read the trigger warnings in the beginning, maybe a little sensitive to some for certain parts but not all. Overall incredible book. age gap, firefighter, college student. Feisty confident love at first sight, brother’s best friend.

Loved how amazing this book was everything about this book was just wonderfully done. Amazed with how wonderful of a man Malloy was to Baylee, and how much love he gives her.

Favorite quote “Tucker Malloy holds every part of me within his grasp and I never want him to let me go.”

Most hilarious quote “ Snitches get stitches, you fuckers! I can’t believe someone ran to Mommy on this one.”

I wasn't familiar with any of the characters before reading this book because I hadn't read any of the Boston Embers series, but I absolutely fell in love with this couple and all their friends. I enjoyed that the story started in the past but quickly jumped to the present, unfolding in a genuine way.
The mutual pining in this story was strong, and the emotional and more serious/heavy topics where handled really well. Luckily, it balanced nicely with the hilarity of their friend group.
If you love a firefighter, age gap, brother's best friend romance, then this book is for you!

Received ARC in exchange for honest review.
