I was destined for a fortune built on the backs of slaves, but now I’m one failed university course away from losing it all.
Only my father’s newest purchase can the slave with eyes too sharp and hands too deft for hard labor. The one who just whispered something shocking in my ear when he passed with the wheelbarrow.
The one I know is dangerous.
But his words don’t matter. We’re forbidden. He’s here to clean gutters, not to teach me, not to look at me, and definitely not to touch me.
And I won’t let him. Not my hand, not my heart, not anything…
773496S6
A number. Not a name. That’s all I am to them. Whipped, chained, beaten, brutalized — but never broken.
They stole my sister, and I’ve schemed my way through pain and grief to make my enemy my new master. I’ll kill him and find her.
And if I have to use his spoiled daughter to do it, fine. I’ve spent my life playing their game—now she’ll play mine.
Except she’s not spoiled. She’s brave, she’s learning, and she’s making me want things. Things I can't have.
They stole everything from me. I’ll never give my heart, too.
But here, just one broken rule can kill you, so we might just have to shatter all of them.
Starting with the ones we made for ourselves.
Perfect for fans of MANACLED, STILL BEATING, and BAD BOYS DON'T DIE, NEVER BROKEN is your first taste of an epic, twisty, suspenseful us-against-the-world forbidden romance trilogy featuring morally gray characters and set in a chilling dystopia a little too much like ours. Although the world is dark and the themes potentially triggering, the romance isn’t as dark. This book ends with a happy for now and a cliffhanger that will make you gasp. And with NEVER BOUND and NEVER LOST, you get a complete arc with a guaranteed happily ever after worth waiting for
Everly Claire is living the dream as a full-time writer with her partner and two cats on a palm-fringed, white-sand beach on a Caribbean island (really, you should try it!) When she’s not writing, she spends her time on a boat or on a beach (always with a fruity cocktail in hand), getting nerdy (and winning big!) at trivia night, and/or dreaming up more hot scenarios and dark twists involving protective, wounded, clever boys with a bad habit of getting chained up — the ones you aren’t allowed to touch but that we all know you will, anyway.
* okay wow, I love the plot and the characters but I am so upset that I have to wait for the second book to come out bc I wanted these characters to have their happy ending and I wanted to see if they find a way to be with each other😭

Forbidden love Forced proximity Dark dystopian world Rich girl x ensl@ved morally grey genius Enemies to lovers Touch her and d!e “Like still beating and manacled had an unhinged baby”
Wow this BOOK was so GOOD I gobbled it up! It’s a forbidden romance set in a dark world where slavery is prominent. In this dystopian society, if you are poor and can’t pay your debt you are sold into slavery. Therefore anyone can become a slave. The romance isn’t dark, it’s the conditions surrounding the two love interests that are dark so check the triggers!
Louisa didn’t expect her father’s new slave to a be a handsome golden young man. She’s been sheltered all her life, naive to the harsh life of slaves, and this golden boy starts to slowly break through to her heart. Problem is: a free woman being with a slave is forbidden. Even a simple touch could mean death for him and ruin for her.
He has no name, just a number. He’s brilliant, intuitive and protective of Louisa. I LOVED watching their romance bloom, the yearning was so good. Them being together is extremely dangerous and forbidden, which makes it all the more tempting. Golden boy is trying to find a way to save his slave sister and falling for the masters daughter was definitely NOT in his plans. But maybe tutoring her might be the excuse he needed to find information on his sister… if you love the forced proximity trope and spicy forbidden romance you will love this!
Also THAT ENDING!! Gah I need the sequel right now 👀
First, I would like to thank the author because I received an ARC copy. I enjoyed the plot, it’s very interesting and kept me engaged. I didn’t like how they kept using “slave” and “master.” I feel like it was understood and then it just kept coming up to the point it felt unnecessary to me. I enjoyed the mystery overall about everything, but also about our main characters. There are so many unanswered questions and I enjoyed the sneak peak into book two. I’m looking forward to getting some answers.
“The rules way we can’t touch. The only solution? Burn them all...”
This debut modern utopian forbidden romance tells the story of Lou and 773496S6. He is forbidden to touch her, as any contact is forbidden. Set in New North America in 2025, Lou is a college student striving to excel in her medical classes to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor and break free from her parents' control.
773496S6 is a slave without a name or title. He possesses a high level of education thanks to his former owner, and he is undeniably striking. On a quest to locate his sister, he discovers that Lou might be a valuable ally in his journey.
The depth of emotion and intensity in this story were beyond what I expected. Everly Claire has crafted a narrative that is both captivating and thought-provoking, seamlessly blending elements of romance and dystopian fiction. The chemistry between Lou and 773496S6 is real, and their journey is one that kept me turning pages late into the night.
The unique setting of New North America in 2025 provides a fresh backdrop for the unfolding drama, and the themes of freedom and identity are explored with nuance and sensitivity. Overall, this book is a must-read for fans of romance, dystopian worlds, and strong character development. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment in The Unchained series and can't wait to see where Every Claire takes these characters next.
By the end of this book, I was completely blown away. The author's exceptional world-building and plot development pulled me in and deepened my connection to the characters. What began as a quest to find his sister evolves into the potential to put an end to slavery once and for all! I can’t wait to see what happens next with Lou and 773496S6! That cliffhanger has me itching for answers. Will Lou make her dreams come true? Will 773496S6 find his sister and get the freedom he wants? These questions are driving me crazy, and I’m counting down the days until the sequel drops.
Everly Claire has set up an amazing story that digs into love and courage. If the first book is anything to go by, the next one is going to be packed with surprises and deep emotions. Here’s hoping book two is coming soon!
I’m kind of conflicted. I think the premise is really interesting and I am interested where this is going. But I definitley had issues….
the writing was giving YA and in the dialogue was a bit choppy. It was so insta love/lust and despite being told there’s very high stakes (ie ILLEGAL. DEATH. PUNISHMENT.) there was very little stopping them. And the creep gardener spying on them and ultimately planning to SA her, plot just annoyed me.
The spoiled little rich girl calling her dad Daddy 24/7 who decided she started caring about slaves bc her dad bought a hot slave who said something a bit flirty to her, was a really annoying character choice. And a guy who’s been a slave his entire life, who’s defiant but somehow super duper eduction in ???rockets and o chem??? and is so good looking everyone wants him even tho he’s a slave - also weird.
And rocket dude Max haaaaas be be a fictional Elon musk and I’m kinda questioning that choice as well
I’m so confused by this relationship with his sister who’s been missing but somehow was very easily found despite this giant revenge plot? Also, like alt reality 2025, written so,show both futuristic and historical.
I will be reading book two to see where this is going however. If nothing else than because I wanna know what the “hot slave boy”’s name is and I hope the slaves get free
I’m not sure how I feel about this book. I can’t deny that I liked it but I feel like some important moments were glazed over or happened out of nowhere, so much so that sometimes I wondered and checked whether my kindle was glitching… I’m hoping the novella and second book will fill in the gaps and feel more well rounded.
The subject was a hard one to read, which i expected, and while the gist of the story is predictable, I was still quite surprised by a lot of the subplot !
As much as I would have liked for the tension and attraction between the characters to have a little more time to build in the beginning, the chemistry is undeniable and caries the story well !
That cliffhanger ending definitely left me speechless, so I’m excited to read the rest of the story 🔥
I couldn’t put this book down! Finished it in 24hours! The premise is really intriguing and the characterisation of the two protagonists was really strong. The writing style is really easy to read and I had a really clear image of the locations and characters in my head. It certainly wasn’t as smutty as I thought it was going to be, but that didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment, with some great “yearning” scenes between the main characters.
3.75 stars. A romance set in a world where slavery has been reintroduced to address economic woes, meaning inequality and oppression are rife and human rights barely exist… it felt all too plausible in our supposedly non-classist society where the socioeconomic divide seems wider than ever. The MCs were compelling, there’s some intrigue, nefarious side characters, decent world-building (without making it too much of a focus) and a cliffhanger, all in a short 236 pages. Only spotted a few errors. I’m going straight on to book two.
After reading the summary of this book, I knew it was going to be good! However, I was not prepared to be obsessively waiting for book number two! This story was so raw and had me rushing to find out what happens, but at the same time, I wanted to savor these characters. The MMC is so cunning and witty, I just couldn’t get enough of his banter! This book completely blew me away and now I’m a huge fan of Everly Claire!
I really enjoyed the Dystopian vibes. Slavery is king in this world but you can feel the mentality shifts on the horizon. At times it honestly felt a little YA but I still enjoyed it. More of a Divergent feel to it than truly dark. Overall recommend
I would really like to thank the author for giving me this book as an ARC! Needless to say - this book was an intense forbidden love that almost reminded me of the handmaids tale. It’s set in New America where slavery is legal and takes you on quite a ride. The MMC has a sister who is a slave like him that he is trying to find. So he teams up with the FMC to tutor her and during that, she also starts to care for him and get feelings. The story is so intriguing but makes you want to bash your head in because it’s forbidden. It ended with a twist that I didn’t see coming! I just need to know what the heck happens with this couple and their story. I’m dying that I have to wait until next year to read the next book!
Side note - just a personal preference but I do wish the chapters were shorter.
This story is a gripping dark romance set in a modern dystopian world where slavery is legalized. The MMC, 773496S6, is enslaved by the female FMC, Louisa’s father. He can’t even dream of touching her-literally-if he wants to keep breathing. And he can't risk dying - not until he accomplishes a mission he's on.The slow-burn and forbidden romance between them was intense, with an undeniable tension that kept me hooked! The MMC was absolutely phenomenal. I loveddd his character; he’s just the right kind of morally grey! As for Louisa, while I felt she lacked a bit of personality at times, she definitely had her moments of surprising depth. The plot was incredible, full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge!!❤️🔥
As the first book in a trilogy, it ends with a cliffhanger that completely blindsided me. Can’t wait to see where this story goes next!! (Also, I hate Corey with every fiber of my being)
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Even with the holiday season in full swing… this dark dystopian world, steamy forbidden romance, strong MMC & FMC, dual POV had me hooked from the start!
Louisa is a smart cookie, but she struggles with chemistry (or does she? 😉), she feels the future of her family lies on her ability to change her current F to a passing grade to save her scholarship and her family’s fortune.
Meanwhile, her father’s latest purchase was brilliant and had the skills to teach but he also he also needs to save his sister. He will stop at next to nothing to find her and free her. He’s hot 🥵, he’s been through hell and back, he’s dangerous, but he has a soft spot for his master’s spoiled brat daughter.
Louisa and 773496S6 put a wrench in both goals as they find themselves entangled in a forbidden love affair. He’s a slave and she’s a free girl in this alternate 2025 world, touching is forbidden, but to hell with the rules.
FYI: the book ends on a cliffhanger that has me itching for book 2!
Thank you Everly Claire, for allowing me to read this as part of your ARC team! I was sitting on the edge of my comfy chair in anticipation for what came next throughout the book! I already purchased my shelf trophy and will be impatiently waiting for book 2!
Never Broken kicks off a captivating dystopian series set in the harsh, repressive world of “New America,” where slavery has been reinstated. The story revolves around a forbidden relationship between a slave and the master’s daughter, which raises the stakes with every chapter. Their taboo bond is filled with tension, and the risks they face if discovered are immense, making for a gripping, high-stakes narrative. The cliffhanger ending definitely leaves you hungry for more. It’s a thrilling read that blends suspense, romance, and the intense drama of a world where freedom is a luxury. I can’t wait to dive into Book 2!
I love a good plot! I was captivated with the story from the beginning, and it surpassed the hype. This is a well written thriller romance. There were twists and WTF moments you don't see coming. This story is the epitome of forbidden romance. The characters are well thought out and show clear growth throughout the story as it unfolds. I found myself completely emerging in the world that is both bitter and broken along with these two souls that find themselves drawn to one another. Can they save themselves? Can they salvage what's been done? Can they secure a future?
I have so many questions - but like, in a good way. Who really is Professor Muller? Is Max Langer good or evil? AHHHHHHH
This is a forbidden love that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was not what I expected going into it blind, like I usually do, but man it was so good! It is a futuristic/alternate universe where slaves exist and are treated like how you would expect a slave to be treated. Please check the TW/CW on this before picking it up as some of the parts can be hard to read.
I am only upset that I have to wait for the rest of the series to see what happens, but I may have some theories, that I will not spoil. The plot was so good and keeps you captivated the entire time!
An Absolutely Captivating MUST READ for dark romance lovers!
I did not want to put this down. I couldn't! So much was happening. It was soo entertaining!
The storyline, the writing, the characters were all perfectly written. I loved every aspect of this story. It was heartbreaking, but also exciting! (Check the triggers, if you have any!) There was so much tension, but in such a good way.
I highly recommend this book, and I can not wait until the next book comes out!
Read if you love: • Forbidden Love • Dystopian Society • Slow burn romance • Dark Romance • Touch Her and 💀 • Rich Girl x Sexy Slave Genius
Truly loved this ARC copy. Everly Claire brings an exciting mix of romance and intensity, with a strong focus on the chemistry between the main characters. The book features spicy moments that are both passionate and well-written, adding an extra layer of depth to the emotional connection between the leads. These scenes are steamy but not overwhelming, perfectly balancing the plot’s themes of love, healing, and personal growth. If you're a fan of romance with a bit of heat, *Never Broken* delivers just the right amount of spice to keep you hooked without overshadowing the story's heart.
This was such an interesting book! I really enjoyed the dystopian setting!! It took a hot sec to get into the groove with this book but I’m glad I kept going! I’m really looking forward to the next book!
I really enjoyed the book and the story is unlike any I've read before. I defiitely would recommend it, however mind your triggers. This is a dark romance!
Louisa was raised in a life of luxury, coming from a wealthy family. She attended the best schools, had a close circle of friends, and aspired to become a doctor, determined to make a name for herself. However, her picture perfect world begins to unravel as her family's reckless spending drains their fortune. Now, Louisa finds herself relying on a scholarship to attend school, where she is struggling to pass a course that could jeopardize her future. In a desperate attempt to help her succeed, her father makes an unconventional purchase: 773496S6A, a gorgeous educated German slave, whom he enlists to tutor Louisa.
Little did they know 773496S6A has an agenda of his own that he's determined to see through, no matter the cost. That is until his plans take a turn when his connection with Louisa grows, putting them both at risk of severe consequences, or even death.
Thankyou to Everly Claire - the author and Torch Lit Ink, for the gifted copy. The Dystopian nature of this book is a unique concept. An alternative America where slavery is back due to a massive decline in the economy. Scarily enough, sometimes it all feels a little realistic, the things these slaves have gone through is sickening. The story revolves around a few of these men and women, wanting to dismantle this, with the help of "liberals." You know the drill. I haven't seen male slaves and wealthy females in a romance before. The author did justice to the slow burn and tension between the characters. Louisa - the Female Lead has a reputation of being a spoilt rich bratty kid, and she tries to live up to it, but it isn't her. She's a kind woman, and 773496S6, yes that's his tag number because he doesn't have a name. He's not allowed one - brings out her inner conflict about human rights. Their personalities are dynamic, there's so much change and growth as the story progresses. I would enjoy watching this become a movie. This book ends in a cliff hanger.
I was a little iffy about the topic of this book being slavery I’m a dystopia world. But it was written well. I was not a fan of some of the terms used calling them slaves all the time. But there is a point to all of that as you read through the story. Overall enjoyed it
This is a world full of slaves and free people. The MMC doesn’t have a name, just a number but he is looking for his sister who was kidnapped. His new owner has a link to the man he believes has his sister but what he didn’t expect was to be attracted to Louisa, his owner's daughter. They begin to see each other even though it is forbidden for them to be together. I really struggled getting into this book, it's set in 2025 , yet it's written as if it's hundreds of years ago. Louisa acts younger than she is betrayed as she is actually 18 years old. This does end on a cliffhanger for the next book.
The song Guilty as Sin by Taylor Swift is THE SONG for the relationship in this book. I haven’t stopped singing it ever since things between Louisa and my beloved Lucky Sevens/Rocket Boy started getting more intense. The tension, the yearning, the forbidden desire and affection growing between the two…I ate it up. It was SO GOOD!
Never Broken is an epic forbidden romance set in a scary dystopian version of our world—and when I say scary, I mean this version of our world is DARK where slavery is a thing. But though the setting is chilling with heavy themes, the romance itself is not a dark romance. On the contrary, the romance is intense, sweet and steamy, with a banter between the characters that was beautiful to read. It’s the circumstances around the characters that are dark, and the reality our MMC is forced to live every day. The protagonists are Louisa and an intelligent and incredibly attractive nameless young man from Luxemburg that we shall call Lucky Seven or Rocket Boy. She is free, he is not. She is the daughter of his new master, while he is willing to do anything to find his lost sister, even unalive Louisa’s father, who may be the key to finding her. They’re impossible, forbidden. If they were caught, it would mean ruin and possible slavery for Louisa, and the mines for Rocket Boy. Or worse. And yet they can’t help the growing attraction and feelings between them.
This book broke my heart in so many ways, starting from the fact that I don’t really have a name for the MMC apart from things he gets called in the book. I already know that the moment he’s (hopefully) freed and he’ll get to choose a name for himself, I’m going to cry a river of tears. The things he’s seen and lived through are horrifying, and yet he’s remained strong. He’s smart, clever, and oh so charming. He’s fascinating, with a Neal Caffrey vibe to him that I cannot ignore. He’s easily become one of my favorite MMCs in recent years. I was living for his interactions with Louisa, which gave a respite from all the bad. Louisa has definitely lived a privileged life, but I loved how she questions the way things are, even if doing so is dangerous.
If, like me, you love The Winner’s Curse, then this forbidden romance should land on your TBR list! (And read it immediately—after checking the triggers, of course—because I need more people to scream with me about it. The next book comes out in Spring 2025!)
Here are some tropes! ❤️🔥 forbidden love 🌎 dark, dystopian world 🌚 morally gray MMC ✨ rich girl x ensl4ved genius con artist 🔥 forced proximity
Thank you to the author for gifting me an eARC (though I bought the paperback myself since I needed it on my trophy shelf). Opinions are my own.
Today I bring you the review of a book that I've been waiting to read since I first saw its synopsis. I want to take this opportunity to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read her book.
Now, when we get to the part of what I thought of it, I'm having a little trouble finding the right words. The book has some themes that I had never read before in another (as could be slaves and masters). It was certainly a genre I had never explored before, and that's why there were certain things that might not have been to my liking.
Come on, I'm honest: I usually read a lot of dark romance and as a general rule I always tend to get attached to the FMC very quickly. I can assure you that there have been few times in which I've become instantly attached to a MMC (usually the feeling is acquired during the course of the book), but in this case it happened to me that my whole being was on his side. And I feel like it makes sense, since he was the center of the book's plot.
I’m not saying the female lead was bad, but there were many times where I simply wondered: why was she doing, saying or thinking those things? But there are a couple of points to keep in mind:
° It's a dystopian book, meaning there's always something about civilization that makes them separate by class. It's like the saying, “The big fish eats the little fish for simple survival or comfort.”
° The female protagonist grew up in an environment where slavery was her everyday life. Realizing what the world is really like is an abrupt change and sometimes it can take time to change certain thoughts and habits.
° Social pressure can sometimes be strong and can force you to do or be something you don't want to, even knowing what that would hurt in the future.
📍Do I recommend it?
I can say it is a yes but it has a couple gaps that I hoping to find in the next book, this is a book that questions you and inclines you to have many doubts and moral controversies. As I said, it is an unusual subject. It was entertaining to read, because the author puts situations that make you feel desperation. Those kinds of scenes are the ones I crave the most in books.
So yes, of course I recommend it, but keep in mind that there will be a lot of mixed emotions and a lot of doubts that will make you think: Why?
Thank you to Everly Claire and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read this ARC!
4.5/5 Stars 2 on Spice In a world where slavery has never been abolished, it has instead spread across the globe, with millions of people living as mere property. Born into this status, slaves are treated as subhuman, and when they become "unproductive," they are sent to factory farms where few survive beyond a year. This dark, slow-burn dystopian romance revolves around a morally ambiguous male protagonist, held captive and desperate for freedom.
The story follows Louisa, an heir to a corporate empire, who enjoys a life of luxury as she pursues a career in medicine. Despite her caring nature, she remains blissfully unaware of the harsh realities surrounding her. Her father, a powerful slave owner, is regarded as one of the more "humane" masters. When he purchases a new slave—identified only by the number 77349686, transported from the New European Union to the New North American Union—Louisa’s world begins to change. Slaves are stripped of their identities, reduced to numbers, but this particular man stands out. Literate, a rare and dangerous quality among slaves, he carries a troubled past but possesses a quiet dignity. Labeled "dangerous" by the slave traders, he is sharp-minded, secretive, and driven by a purpose. Over time, he becomes an unexpected tutor to Louisa, helping her navigate the complexities of organic chemistry.
As Louisa’s relationship with him deepens, she begins to see the world around her in a new light, realizing how little she truly understands. Their interactions are filled with playful banter, but beneath the surface, there is always the threat of punishment—slaves are strictly forbidden from touching women. Yet, this particular slave seems to challenge those boundaries with a surprising ease. What Louisa doesn’t know is that his motives run far deeper than survival. He is determined to find his sister, who was sold years ago to another master. His only mission is to reunite with her, ensuring her safety in a world that offers none.
This novel is an emotional journey, pulling readers into a grim, dystopian reality where survival is a constant struggle. It's a thought-provoking, heartbreaking narrative that captivates with its high stakes, where hope is fragile and the fight for freedom is a matter of life and death.
I am excited to read the next book to find out what happens!
The world is a terrible place here. Slavery is a thing, people deal in trading slaves sometimes. Wow. Just wow. Cruel, cruel world.
Louisa’s dad is struggling financially and they can’t really afford much right now. He’s trying to get into something that is *hopefully* going to help them recover from their financial issues.
Louisa is studying pre-med and is STRUGGLING in her O-Chem class. Horribly.
Daddy ends up purchasing a new slave from overseas. One with a bad record so of course he got a hell of a deal for this new guy. The new slave boy is extremely smart, works hard, and never fails to impress. Slave boy weaseled his way into this family’s home by cashing in favors with everyone he knew to ensure he would be purchased by Louisa’s dad to get closer to where he believes his sister might be and of course, wants to save his sister. He doesn’t care the lengths he needs to go to ensure he gets back to her and protects her at all costs from this horrible world.
Louisa and slave boy end up sparking a relationship and *gasp!* are caught on camera by the creepy gardener who is now trying to blackmail them into doing this for him. (Nasty dude, that’s for sure!) I won’t spoil much here, but the story just keeps unfolding from here.
I will admit, I was NOT expecting a cliff hanger like THAT to end this book but DAMN did it have me triple checking I didn’t miss a paragraph somewhere.
I started and finished this book in a single day because I had to keep finding out what was going to happen.
My ONLY complaint and reason for not giving 5/5 is that in my opinion, the chapters were WAY too long. I’m a fairly quick reader and I still saw chapters showing at 40 minutes at some points. That for me just makes it harder to want to continue and not DNF a book.
Anyways, super excited to read on in this series! I was selected to be an ARC reader for the next book so let’s see where Everly takes us next! (Hopefully answering some questions I had building!)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A slow burn, forbidden romance in a dystopian world.
Set in New North America in 2025, slaves are the norm and are auctioned and sold to the highest bidder. They are prohibited from having names, must never look the elite in the eyes and can never touch them. Physical punishments are doled out for the least little thing.
MMC, 773496S6 is bought by FMC Louisa’s father and joins her household. They have instant chemistry but relationships between the female elite and slaves are forbidden. If they are caught together he will be sent to the mines and she will be ruined.
Louisa has lived a privileged, carefree life until she started college and her professor has opened her eyes to the reality of the cruelty slaves experience. She is starting to question all that she knows. I enjoyed her character development throughout the story. 773496S6 is rebellious, cheeky and not your typical slave. He gets away with a lot because of his brains and beauty.
The relationship between them is slow burn but there is instant chemistry. I loved the forbidden love aspect, it’s dangerous and exciting. There is only one spicy scene but I’m hoping there’ll be more in the rest of the series as the relationship develops.
It took me a little while to get into this book. It was a bit of a slow starter for me but once I got used to the world and the relationship started building between the MCs I really started to love it. The tension builds throughout and there’s some tense moments. It ended abruptly with a cliffhanger and I’m now dying to read book 2 to see what happens next.
Overall, I would rate this 4 stars. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to continuing the series.
