Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
This is as raw as it gets. Covers a very poorly documented part of the experience of (German) civilians. haunting and full of despair, but also deep reflection and the daily tradeoffs in an occupied city. in the end, despite everything, the author still has hope and curiosity for the future. a deeply disturbing, but incredibly important book.
One of the most harrowing books I have ever read. It is the only book I have read which had an anonymous author. That fact doesn’t make me doubt it in any way as I am sure the Russian army behaved exactly as the Germans did. I know someone who had to walk out of Berlin as a four year old with her mother during the last weeks of the war and she as an adult related what her mother had told her of the period.
Absolutely fantastic read. The writing style is unique - almost recensent of Nordic writings. The subject is gruesome and gives a terrifying insights in the fragility of human civility/humanity. I dont know why this book is not standard reading and with that more widely known.
