When Editorial Assistant, Eugenia Barkley, receives the news that her estranged mother has passed, she’s astonished to hear that there was a provision in her mother’s will that bequeathed upon her a cabin in the Ozarks.

Shocked that her high-society mother even knew the Ozarks existed, Eu – a Los Angeles girl - has no idea what she’s going to do with a property that’s so far away, and that she probably wouldn’t be able to afford to keep. From what she’d heard of her mother, her idea of ‘roughing it’ would be a condo that didn’t have a doorman.

Her dilemma is short-lived, however, when Eu loses her job at the newspaper. Faced with no income, and uncertain as to what she should do with her life, she decides to go take a look at the property and see if she can sell it to build a nest egg for herself.

Discovering that the property is a cabin on the lake is shocking, but becoming a murder suspect shortly after her arrival is even more so. In a small town, filled with people who look at her as an outsider, Eu has to figure out how to catch a killer before she ends up in the slammer for a crime she didn’t commit.

As she tries to dig up the truth about the murder, she also discovers things about her mother that she never knew – things that could change the way she sees herself.

A Great Start to a New Series!!

This is one of my very favorite authors. I have read every book she has written, either stand alone or a series. Ms. Prescott along with the other authors under her publishing umbrella SPBP, write wonderful cozy mysteries that are both enjoyable and entertaining. They never disappoint.

This first book in a new series was a fun and enjoyable read. The main character has inherited a beautiful cabin in the Ozarks, gifted to her by her deceased mom whom she did not know. Well written as always, it held my interest from the first page until the last. I am very excited by this new series and look forward to hopefully many more stories with descriptions of the area, the inhabitants and learning more about the backstory of Eugenia and her mom.

Great book to begin this series

Summer Prescott is one of my favorite small town cozy mystery authors and I’ve read nearly all of her books (over 200, I believe). When I saw this little series was about to be released, I watched and waited until there were a few published before beginning.

So here it is 3 months after book one’s publication and this series is now 4 books long, so I have begun my cozy fishing adventure.

This is the introduction to Eugenia better known as Eu, her best friend Fran, Michael, Trixie, and Callie. Oh, and Deputy “Dawg”, because we all know each book will have a problem of some sort that involves law enforcement.

Unfortunately Eu is a person of interest in a murder, so Eu and eventually Fran begin interviewing and researching people they feel are better suspects than themselves, so they can be cleared and Eu can get on with her life to learn more about the mother she never knew, but left Eu a cabin in her will.

Eu and Fran cross danger a few times, but luckily Michael heroically appears. So is Michael in the right place at the right time or is he the killer? Guess you’ll see when you crack open this book!

Next is book 2 “Casting Doubt.”

Great book!!!!

This is a great start to this series, it now has me wanting to read the next book to find out what is going to happen next!!!!!
Eugenia is at a job that has under valued her for a long time. And use her valuable skills to better useless people, until the day came when the Editor broke the camels back, using Eugenia (Eu) to better his daughters' work, that couldn't report her way out of a paper bag. EU has been promised a promotion for a long time.
EU had told her boss Joe how she felt and got fired.
Then EU got a letter her estranged mother had died and left her a house on the Peninsula in Lake of the Ozarks. What is not stopping her to go check it out? Nothing!!!!!
This is where everything gets very interesting and suspicious!!!!
EU gets there by different ways of transportation, as she finally arrives, the house is a cabin at a fishing camp, and the cabin turns out to be beautifully decorated. With some quirky, and some nice neighbors. But there is a under tone of a developer lurking around, and realtors wanting Eu's cabin sitting in a prime spot on the side of a beautiful big lakeside.
Get this book to find out how the new comer handles the town and developers!!!!

This is a great new series from Summer Prescott and I really love it.

Eu inherits a cabin in the Ozarks from a mother she never knew. She is not sure why and since she doesn't know much about her mother, she is trying to find clues. She's made a new friend in the fellow who owns the cabin next door. There is a murder and because she was talking to the victim the day before and because she is new to town, all eyes fall on her as being the murderer. She needs to figure out who actually did it before she ends up in jail. Can she?

I like the characters in this one. Summer keeps you guessing if on the main characters will ever become friendly with Eu or will she always hold something Eu's mother did to her against her? I can't wait until the next ones come out.

With no other income she decides to move to the cabin but then she becomes a prime suspect when a body is found as she is an outsider. She will have to dig to find a killer and save her name but it will also uncover secrets of her murder. There are more ways to catch a killer it seems.

Fish camp mystery

Eugenia is a young woman who inherited her mother's fishing camp. Though she and her mother have been estranged for years. There is a murder of a local real estate agent trying to get her to sell the property. She is eventually murdered and everyone is a suspect. Eu investigates when she is suspected of the crime. Along with her friend Fran they investigate. Love this first in a series.

This was definitely a different setting from the usual cozy mysteries I read, but it sure ended up being interesting. I liked how Eu started liking her handsome neighbor pretty quickly and boy what a sweetheart he was! He's a keeper, girl! And Fran's the best bestie a girl could want. I'd love to see her come out there and stay for good if Eu decides to stay. Eu's my new showdown with a perp hero after what she did to that killer lol. Epic!

The characters are believable and likeable, right from the start. The plot is straightforward and the premise is finding out who killed the over zealous realtor and why. The answers raised more questions and it turns out the main character's mother had more than a spoiled little rich girl going for her, so that is another mystery to solve. I definitely do recommend this book.
