In the depths of an alien ocean, a young submarine mechanic must battle ruthless pirates and legendary monsters to salvage an ancient relic that could be the key to humanity’s future.

Apprentice submarine mechanic Jake Stone is no stranger to risk. Orphaned as a child when his parents ventured beyond the colony’s borders, he now spends his days navigating the seafloor in robotic “Jumpers,” performing dangerous repairs while dreaming of a better life. When he receives an unexpected chance to work aboard a cargo submarine, Jake sees it as a chance to escape and eagerly accepts. But what begins as a dream job soon becomes a nightmare when he learns that the ship’s overbearing captain and headstrong daughter are on a perilous quest to recover ancient technology that could be the key to humanity’s survival. As Jake descends deeper and deeper into the abyss, he must overcome ruthless treasure hunters, legendary monsters, and his own troubled past—while facing a future he never knew awaited him.

Note that this is the first prequel story to my 5-book Novum saga.

“Rogue Wave” is the prequel to “The Novum Chronicles” which I read before Rogue Wave came out. And like its predecessor, Rogue Wave is a fantastic under ocean adventure. We meet Jake Stone for the first time, who operates an undersea “jumper”—a robotic mechanoid—making hazardous repairs to ships. When an opportunity arises to join the crew of a cargo ship, Jake jumps at the chance, and is met by a stubborn captain and his equally willful daughter, who are embarking on a perilous journey in search of ancient technology that could save…or destroy…the world.

“Rogue Wave” is an exciting foray into the depths of a future world where very little life exists above the surface of the sea, a realm filled with treasure seeking pirates, wild monsters, and enough menacing intrigue to keep readers spellbound. Joseph Rhea’s prose strikes just the right tone for his tale, and the world-building is superb.
