Now THIS is how you end a series. My god, I am an emotional wreck in the best way. First off, I was recommended this series, and I put it off for a while because I never fully read what it was about. Lo and behold, it was a guilty pleasure - RH - and that’s why it was recommended to me. Now I’ve read some poorly written why choose stories, but I’ve also read some incredible one where the bar was set so high that nothing can really compete. I went into this series expecting to enjoy it, but not to LOVE it.
To backtrack, I didn’t write reviews on the other 4 books, and that’s really because I absolutely DEVOURED each of these books as soon as I finished one. When I tell you I was hooked the moment I made it through the first chapter of book 1, I’m not kidding.
This is exactly how you write a fantasy why choose story. Each character is perfectly developed, and you can’t help but love every single one of them, even the side characters. Our main character is Willow, and I think the one thing that drew me in the fastest to this story was that she was 26 and not a young 18/19/20 year old immature girl like most fantasy book FMC are. She’s relatable. There’s also so much trauma and personal development that takes place, and boy is this one hell of a ride.
Willow’s Nexus (men) are Corentin, Caspian, Tillman, and Draken, and they are perfection. All different styles and personalities, but the beauty of this writing and storyline is THAT’S THE POINT.
I won’t drop any spoilers because this is too good to spoil for anyone, but I will recommend this series to everyone who loves a why choose story with fantasy, magic, dragons, deep and colorful world building, action, emotion, and humor. There were tons of dark moments, but there were a million times more beautiful ones. I cried. I don’t cry often for books, but this one I did.

I wish I was exaggerating. I've always hated the 'every-guy-uses-a-different-nickname' convention in this genre, but this was the first time I considered DNF-ing because I couldn't take it anymore. I was starting to question if anybody even knew Willow's actual name, of if she just encouraged all her acquaintances to pick one for her.
I guess this was technically a good book. The plot did all the right plot things, the characters were likable and the conflict was resolved in a satisfying way. The problem was...it just wouldn't end.
I pushed through and pushed through, just to see how Willow and the gang would defeat the Summon Master, and finally, they did and it was great! It was over. No more nicknames. I was FREE! Then I glanced at the bottom of the screen to learn I was only at 82% There was still over 100 pages remaining. AKA - the longest epilogue in existence.
The writing was good, the characters were likable, and Caspian was beyond sexy. But finishing a book shouldn't feel like a punishment. Right?

It was bad enough that there was no action until 70% into the last book of the series. Or that there was basically no fight scene between the MC and villain. But then the war ends and there’s still 20% of the book left?! Criminal.

Book 5 is here and it is bittersweet. I have been a big fan of this series since book 1, I can’t even tell you how many time I have re read them, each book has been rated a 5⭐️ from me. Willa Rae has absolutely smashed her first series out of the park.
We finally get out HEA and it has not been an easy road. This last book had me mad, sad, crying and laughing. Definitely an emotional roller coaster. I am so sad that it’s over I am going to miss these characters. But hopefully……eventually this author will bring us back to Elementra. 5 amazing stars!!!!

Could not put this series down
Anyone who knows me knows I struggle to read a series in one go, especially when it the same main plot and main characters .
Normally my go to are duets and interconnected single books with interconnected plots.
But this time I could not put this series down. I was hooked and I needed to consume everything I could.
Source of Elementra by willarae.author was phenomenally written, this post is slightly preemptive as I have 10% of book 5 left to read at the time of this post. But I can't imagine my view will change from that.
It's been a wild ride following Willow and her men on their journey of discovery, both of themselves and each other and all the mysteries of their realm.
This series had Angst, found family, grumpy but Protective men, hurt/Comfort and so many more of my favourite tropes.
The story was woven beautifully and puzzle pieces placed perfectly, you just had to pay attention.
Let's just say I saw the choices coming two books away, but they weren't obvious unless you really paid attention 😏 😉 👀

That was A LOT… again.
I’m not going to try and summarize this plot. Suffice to say for 4 books we’ve been building up to a battle, and in book number 5 it hits like a sledgehammer. Hundreds of little things that matter happen beforehand, but I can’t list all of them it's a looooooooong book.
The buildup to war was good (although technically the battle happens on the night of the Ball, and that night was written too jam packed with revelations), I had been looking forward to that Ball for many reasons: a bit of normalcy and dancing, a live glimpse at the social hierarchy we'd been told about, and maybe seeing some seamstresses or other trades (aka villagers, normal people) doing prep/service. But alas, the party was easily arranged with the Elements 🙄, and the Ball itself got short shrift on page.
The battle was only okay. I’ve read better. Not everyone can write riveting hand-to-hand combat, with wins and losses on both sides, while still making the heroes seem larger than life. This author failed at that. Not because of shortcomings with the world (which by this point is extremely well built and intricate). And not because it wasn't intense enough (because by this point the synchronicities are plentiful and very layered, coming at us 5 to 10 a chapter or more). But mostly because of the author’s problematic writing style. She primarily focusses on the (repetitive) emotions people are feeling, rather than the external action. She’s been doing this the whole series, but it never hits so hard (and wrong) as during battle. When you just want a strategic, graphic, and visceral account.
During the battle,
Again, I felt as if the quality writing was the only problem here. The author portrays emotional distress and grief through a lot of physical acting: crying and wailing and falling down and vomiting. I wish she would write in a more emotionally developed, nuanced way. I also wish she would’ve backed off on the amount of poignant moments. She was obviously trying to make the series a pathos stacked cry fest. But life needs to be superficial and mundane too. Filled with little things like running errands, or the kindness/pettiness of strangers. Everything shouldn't be intense and world altering.
Also less important, but still important (iykyk)
The other massive spoiler I’ll give is that the battle ends at like 80%,
Two things the very long epilogue didn’t contain that I thought was pertinent were: Draken’s introduction to his grandparents (Keeper’s parents) in their realm. Instead, it’s sort of glossed over, mentioning it but not diving deep. and Aria's awakening to Lyker's Nexus, like wtf. That went on for so long with no closure. This series (this book especially) had a lot of loose threads. The plot is pretty comprehensive, so I would call them holes exactly, just little things the author brought up and never entirely explained like: how Draken is a dragon shifter???? Saying his father has a non-sexual bond with a dragon isn’t quite sufficient. And what about his mom? What was she? There are at least 50 other little things like that, not earth shattering, but still have me 🤔.
The ending also went hard with the ‘girl power’ theme, re-introducing Elementra as a hero who sacrifices, instead of the absolute psychopath that she is. I do not care for ‘divine feminine’ plots, nor do I care for abject disregard and 'passing-the-buck' behaviour being written as great leadership. I suppose all the things that happened to the h (etc) could be divinely justified by saying the MCs will live thousands of years, so the h’s horrific first 26 weren’t a big deal. But they really gd were! Children were abused, PEOPLE DIED PREMATURELY and that bitch Elementra was the cause. So if you love the whole ‘gods who steal people’s autonomy’ aspect of this series, we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Overall, this series was very much worth my time, but it was also extremely infuriating, with repetitive parts that were highly skippable. So 3 stars I'm afraid.

Ugh can’t believe it’s over, this is definitely one of my top 10 book series💜 I need 226 years to decompress and to stop CRYING. FYI I don’t cry usually but DAMN this series got me in all my feelings. Take me to Elementra.

4.5 ⭐️ wow what a wild ride this series was! this was such a fun adventure to be apart of. throughout this series, willow goes through a lot of character development and looking back at how she was in the beginning to now, she has grown into her own. her nexus and the way they loved her and would stop at nothing to make sure she is safe in the world truly makes me giddy. i love all the relationships and found family in this series. not only did she have such an amazing bond with her nexus but after years of her being alone and wishing she wasn’t, she found her family. this one made me life, curse, smile, and cry… boy did it make me cry. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending for this series and I am so sad to see it go.

The emotions of reaching book 5. The epic finale.
This was phenomenal, it was full of adventure, action (the battle scene was just incredible). There was found family, love, loss, incredibly strong Fmcs (Queen Aroura I love you) which all came together to form a very thrilling conclusion.
The character development from book 1 for our main characters at the finale was so good. They all had battles to fight and overcome, Caspian and Draken had the biggest character development and it was so amazing to see them come into their own. While still keeping their ability to be a funny, chaotic duo.
Corintein and Tillman remain as strong as ever providing a solid backbone to their nexus.
Willow has been through so much and it feels like it will never end. But she comes out so strong with the support of her nexus and Found family.

"Oh, Elementra!" This is probably one of my favorite Fantasy RH's ever!! I've loved following Willow and her Nexus's journey. Each character grew so much with every twist, turn, heartbreak, and setback they encountered. They obviously get a VERY happy ending that was so worth all the heartache this book put me through, but it they really had me on edge and in my feels alot 😅 That extended epilogue was EVERYTHING an epilogue should be!! I hope to see more of the Vito Nexus and friends in later works. Their story was absolutely beautiful ❤️ Can't wait to see what else Willa Rae comes up with, and whatever realms she takes us to is sure to have us bitting our nails.

I don’t think I’ve cried this much since reading The Ravenhood. Honestly, I wished the book had been at least 300 pages longer. I’m so happy for Willow and her men to finally find their happy ending after enduring so many years of battling life’s challenges. I can’t wait to read it again this series is definitely one of my favorites.

What a conclusion. Fantastic. Highly satisfying. Love the epic battle. Absolutely terrifying and cathartic. Donald’s end was pure genius. I was smirking with a bloodthirsty mindset through the whole damn thing. Then the final epilogue chapters are just right to help close the chapters and give enough about what’s to come. Loved this series.

The perfect ending. I would like to personally thank Willa Rae for the length of the epilogue. I always suffer from wanting to experience more of what happens after and she gave me just that! I am so happy that I kept on going with this story because now I know how this amazing story comes to an end. My heart❤️

Amazing series. Sad to see it end but what an amazing ride. I shed so many tears through out this book which doesn’t happen to me. But how Willa wrote the story so beautifully brought out so many emotions. Absolutely loved the last chapters of this book instead of one small epilogue we got so much closure and insight of how their future turned out.

I love this story so much. I kinda wish we could get a whole book of them just traveling the realms, the ending, though, was so satisfying. I cried so many happy tears. Such a good book really wish there was more

Such an amazing finish to the series!
I swear, if I didn't need sleep, I wouldn't have put this book down! I laughed, bawled like a baby, and loved this book. This whole series has brought the tears more than once, and I'm so here for it! I really hope you continue the storyline with the ending you gave us. I can't wait to read about their children's adventures. Absolutely loved this book and the entire series.

This entire series has been done so beautifully , the perfect mix of Humour , spice & romance. I dont think ive truly felt this many emotions when reading a series. I've just finished the series and already want to start reading it again. I've read 900 books in 18 months and I truly don't think a series has made as much as an impression as this one. Jesus I truly don't know what to say but thankyou to the author for this masterpiece

I normally don’t like a series if it has more than 3 books because sometimes the plots become drawn out and the books won’t hold my attention anymore. This series was hands down the best I’ve ever read the final book was the perfect way to end it. It showed the growth of each character and how everyone became a family in the end. I loved it.

I am in AWE.
This series has destroyed me in all of the best ways. A year ago, I was on a RH kick. I came across this series and at that time, the 5th book wasn't even announced/wasn't on KU yet so I thought it was just the 4 books. When I got to the end of the 4th and realized it wasn't finished, I was SO bummed. Now, a year later and I reread all of the books and just finished the 5th.
I laughed out loud, I shed actual tears. NEVER has an RH book made me feel the way this one has. The suspense, the supporting characters, the main characters. I can tell how thought-out a thorough this book was planned. I can see and feel how much of Willa was put into these pages. Just typing this makes me want to cry because it's over and I don't want it to be. I want Core and Cas and Till and Draken to all be real. I want to have coffee and goof around with Willow and Oakly and Aria and Aurora. I want to spar with Lyker and so many of the others. I want to learn with Gaster. GAH.
Willa, I'm not sure if you'll ever read this. But thank you. I can't put everything I want to say into words but you have changed my perspective and dare I say my life with this series. I used to read RH because they were quick, fun, spicy and full of romance. They weren't books I really took seriously. But you, Willa. You have changed that. My standards, not just for RH but for fantasy as a whole, has been blown through the roof.
This is the most beautiful series I have ever read and I cannot WAIT to see what you do next. Thank you for this absolute work of ART. <3

My heart is melting
I laughed. I cried. At one point, she broke my whole heart! This book was the perfect conclusion with the sweetest ending. The only thing I regretted was not getting to see Aria and Lyker finally having their awakening. This was an epic story with twists you would never see coming.

Perfect ending
Now that's how you end a series - with over 100 pages of epilogue spanning 200 years!! What a HEA!! This book was so emotional in so many ways, it had me sobbing, laughing, gasping, cringing and everything in between.

Just wow
These books have been an absolutely amazing read. Not too much spice, but a whole lot of story. A fantastic, beautiful woman coming into her power. And such a beautiful way to end the series. My only gripe is we'll never know the old man's age

I spent much longer trying to finish this book than the rest of the series, to the point where I took a break in between and read other books because I didn’t want to finish the series. I knew I was going to miss them, and also, the plot got heavy, and it was so long that I simply just needed a break. I think that it was such a beautiful ending to the series, and to see that they would eventually have the happily ever after that they deserved and have a life with children. It’s strangely disappointing that we didn’t get to see that as another additional chapter. We got to meet her daughter and got hints at the fact that she would have two sons as well, but I really, really just wanted to see at least one chapter of how her daughter eventually came down to the realm and they were a happy little family. I wanted to see pregnant Willow. I wanted to see them taking care of her and the domestic scenes. We saw them age, or at least the years pass by, and they lived a long, fruitful life and continue to do so, but I’m going to continue to miss them and what we could’ve had.
Vince did not have to die. It was so unnecessary. The pain that Draken felt at the loss of his friend, the only person who ever understood him and never made him feel like he was a bad person outside of his family. SO SAD.

I think the best part to come out of this book was the fact that Draken got a relationship with his dad, everybody got to see their loved ones in the beyond, and everyone that they lost, so they got to say one final goodbye, knowing that eventually one day they will be with them. The family aspect is just truly special to me. They all are such a big, big family, and they truly adore and would do anything for each other. It’s just so heartwarming to see how much love this spread, especially because Willow didn’t get that growing up. It’s also so amazing to see how lovable Tillman, Caspian, and Corentin have gotten over time, especially with how they were in book one. PROUD OF THIS FAMILY.

My goddd seeing the depth to what CC had to sacrifice had me in tears. STOPP, seeing Maxima, Pran and Dillion pass after everything they’ve been through is so bittersweet; now they are reunited with their true primary and brother. STAWPP, CC making sure the Willow’s mom got to in some capacity interact with her daughter’s Paterna-Nexus

The ending was perfect. No words. No notes. I loved the fast forwarding of years and the glimpses. Layton and Carrington having their happy ending. Only wondering if Cody’s Nexus found their Primary. The ending of their daughter bringing them to the beyond to briefly reunite was just chefs kiss.

A long one, but a good one!
It took me the better part of a month to read the entirety of this series. I rarely put the books down except to sleep and drive!
"The Source of Elementra" series has quite a few darker elements in it. It's definitely important to check the trigger warnings before you dive in. There's 'grape,' death, death of parents, t0rtúre, etc. Your emotions will also go on a bit of a roller coaster at times. I fully admit I cried a handful of times over the last few books! I would have more so during this one if I hadn't flipped towards the end at one point to see if someone survived, just to learn of someone else's end.
One thing I want to really praise the author on is the last chapters in this final book. There's a POV from some of the secondary characters that gives us insight in the future on how all of them have managed since the ending of the book. The very last chapter was super sweet, and in my opinion, was written pretty well.
The things that could use improvement in this book, and the entire series, is a revamp on the editing. Incorrect words (eg. "opinions" instead of "options") was one of the biggest issues. There were also times when the author was trying to explain something (like the characters realizing a plot or talking about something that happened), but it didn't always make much sense, nor was I able to follow along with what I'm sure the author was trying to get across. Things still worked out, but it got confusing at times.
Overall, I absolutely recommend this series. It was a long one, but a good one!

I loved everything about this series. I have definitely shed some tears over it, and it was so worth it. Ngl, the books were long, but they were not boring at all or time consuming to read, and I loved every single second of Willow and her men’s story. But I had to make notes while reading to keep track of all the characters lmao. I honestly don’t know how Willow is still so strong despite everything she and her men have been through. I loved the way they showed they cared even after what she went through, and they never disappointed. The guys are absolutely over the top with Willow and would even die for her if the situation arose.
I’m definitely sad about the fact CC is in the Beyond and can’t see what a good and badass woman Willow turned out to be. I also loved that Willow got the family she always dreamed of and how she met her long lost brother without even knowing. Despite all the challenges she and her guys have faced, they still stand strong, and they definitely deserved their HEA. But I wish CC was with her and didn’t have to die for everything to make sense. He was her Guardian and the guys’ uncle, and it honestly made me sad that he had known how he would die for over 200 years.
This was overall a heavy but good and safe read. I would definitely reread it again in the future when I’m in a book slump.
