Samantha has built a life she’s fiercely proud of—one that runs on her own terms, with romance nowhere in sight—but everything changes when she’s unexpectedly paired with Andrew, a charming DJ whose irresistible smile and infectious energy turn her carefully structured world upside down.
Determined to keep him at arm’s length, Samantha tries to resist the magnetic connection forming between them, yet Andrew’s playful humor and surprising vulnerability slowly chip away at her defenses, making her question the walls she’s built around her heart. Just as she dares to let her guard down, betrayal strikes, leaving her reeling and questioning everything she believed about love and trust.
This relatable, heartfelt story explores the magic of unexpected connections and the messy journey of letting someone in. Can Samantha embrace the chaos and take a chance on love, or will her fears keep her from discovering something truly lovely?
That’s Lovely by Toni McBride was a charming and uplifting romance with a heartwarming message about finding love when you least expect it. The story follows Ellie, a florist who has spent so much time arranging love for others that she’s neglected her own happiness. When a chance encounter with a mysterious and endearing stranger disrupts her carefully ordered world, Ellie begins to question whether she’s been playing it too safe in life and love.
I really enjoyed the cozy, almost cinematic feel of this book. The romance was sweet and slow-burning, with just the right amount of tension to keep things engaging. Ellie was a relatable protagonist—her journey of self-discovery felt natural, and I appreciated the way the story balanced romance with personal growth. The writing was light and engaging, making it a delightful escape.
Overall, That’s Lovely was a heartwarming and feel-good read, perfect for anyone who enjoys stories about love blooming in unexpected places. It’s the kind of book that leaves you smiling long after you’ve turned the last page.
Toni McBride’s That’s Lovely is a touching and relatable romance that dives into the ups and downs of unexpected love.
Samantha is super independent and has no plans for romance—until she meets Andrew, a fun-loving DJ who really brings some energy into her life. Their chemistry is great, filled with playful teasing and real emotional moments. Andrew isn’t just a typical love interest; he’s got his own issues, making him all the more relatable.
What really makes this book stand out is how real it feels. Samantha’s struggle with opening up to love hits home, and her emotional journey is incredibly moving. The challenges of trust and the sting of betrayal hooked me in, making me want to see how Samantha deals with it all.
With engaging writing and relatable characters, That’s Lovely is perfect for anyone who loves slow-burn romance and stories about surprising connections. Big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC for an honest review!
That's lovely by Toni McBride is a unique story about Samantha who co-owns and runs a nightclub with her brother Jonathan and his best friend Gabriel.
Samantha has a small group of core friends to avoid disappointment from others. She isn't looking to date or expand her circle.
Convinced that hiring the hot new dj will help their club grow even more, Jonathan and Gabriel decide to hire him behind Samantha's back but when she finds out she is pissed off!
Although eventually Samantha has to admit he does know what he's doing, he plays a good set and isn't too bad looking either.
I thought Samantha was relatable as aain character and loved the behind the scenes night club setting.
Thank you Toni for partnering with NetGalley. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
I enjoyed reading this book by Toni McBride. Samantha is the no nonsense busy business woman that does not have to let her guard down for romance. With an up and coming nightclub to run along with her brother Jonathan and his childhood BFF Gabe, the unexpected chaos begins. Then her brother Jonathan and his BFF Gabe bring in Andrew aka The DJ aka The Englishman to spin the music at the club to bring in the crowds. I wanted a little bit more history of Samantha and Johnathan. And more physical descriptions of the characters. Overall, I loved this simple romance with just enough drama, crazy twists, supportive friends and learning to let live in but protecting oneself.
firstly, thanks to netgalley, the publisher and toni mcbride for the arc in exchange for an honest review!
a really simple but heartfelt romance that felt cozy enough to keep the momentum going with chill vibes. i enjoyed it for the not-so-serious mood it brought forth, the slow burn (i love you, slowburn), and the banter. the nightclub setting was also refreshing so the overall scene was very chill. to me, there were some places where it felt a little flat in terms of storyline especially near the middle portions but overall, i enjoyed it. the journey the story takes us on feels relatable and fun, but i didn't find it super groundbreaking or unique that sets it apart.
McBride’s “That’s Lovely” explores the delicate concepts of family values and relationships while developing an intricate setting and set of characters. The reader gains the perspective of these characters through the emotions they display and develop through the relationships that are explored throughout the book. Themes of family, love, and hate are all fleshed out to keep the reader engaged and make the characters more relatable. A well thought out overarching story that has the audience excited to read more of McBride’s work.
When I was introduced to That’s Lovely, I was reluctant to read it because it is not my typical read. However, once I started reading, I did not want to stop! My interest was peaked and it was relatable in many ways to what goes on in our daily lives. Although it has been a while since I read it, I enjoyed it immensely. That’s Lovely, is a solid read for anyone!
I really enjoyed this story of a strong, independent female heroine who is not only resilient but fiercely protective of her friends. Finding love seemed like such a surprise to Samantha and the story is truly “Lovely.” Can’t wait for the sequel!
This was a lovely read that tugged at my heart strings. I loved the fiercly independant Samantha and this book was more real and relatable than most books I have read. Outstanding.
