Well, well, well. Mr. Earl Dixon. Bad man, brutal, but smart! A short novella , with a good story line, plot twists, and an ending Andrew should have seen coming. 3 friends: Mason Cedric, and Drew. One job, to end the debt for all, seemingly simple enough: rob an old man. Whelp, they “effed” around and found out! I really enjoyed reading this; slightly predictable for some situations, provided the back story to set the plot. Reading just flowed; vivid and engaging. Looking forward to another of Linette King’s books. If you like: a bit of mystery with an urban flair, a little love and greed, and that one dude that always makes the wrong decisions, this is one for you!
Very engaging novella that keeps you wanting to know what will happen next and how this all will play out. Imagine being an older gentleman, minding your own business and never bother anyone. Only to be tested in the worse way when 3 much younger guys show up at your home to rob you & disturb your peace because they have underestimated your ability to defend your home. Mr. Dixon had to remind them not to judge a book by its cover.
Andrew was, is, and will always be a fool. Mr. Dixon showed you the truth about BOTH Cedric and Mason. He also told you the truth when he explained that your actions in that shed were those of self-defense, and yet you STILL were the only dumb $$@ that caught a case. In addition to charges and prison, you lost your wife and children. But what about Symone??? What were her true motivations for getting her mother's ashes back, and where was she once the case broke??? Where did Mr. Dixon go???
Quick novella that I really enjoyed. That cover drew me in and it definitely matched the story. My first read by this author and I'm eager for more. Mr. Dixon was no joke! The story theme is centered around three knucklheads looking to make some cash and how they messed around and found out.
Oh Mr. Dixon! This novella was quick, to the point with no fillers. The story perfectly matched the cover. The book had dynamic characters, some of whom made terrible choices. Mr. Dixon will stay with me for some time. Lesson: When you want to underestimate someone-don’t!
This was a very short read, but it packed a punch! I didn’t expect such an impact from a 70 page read. I love pov reads and this one did not disappoint! It was definitely worth it!
I’m still trying to figure out what the hell happened at the end!
This was a quick easy entertaining read. I have been eyeing this book for a while & wish I would have gotten to it sooner. Andrew just don’t listen, see what not listening gets you!
Favorite Quote- “Power is just like magic. It comes with a price.”
First read from this author and I’m for sure reading more.
The book was quick and so damn good. Felt like the author gave us a full length story. Linette really takes you in right away. Dixon was like that and let people be dumb. Talk about people not thinking something through fully. I had some hope for Andrew but nope. 3 young men and not one light bulb went off. An old man living by himself away from people. Shaking my head. Does that not equal trouble you’re asking for. Also liked the story around the land. Lastly, Simone knew what she was doing.
Thanks Tor for the download :) super fast and short read, but super captivating. A good triller with a very intriguing plot line and multiple perspectives to keep attention. I did a bit confused between the contrast changing of perspectives but wasn’t hard to figure out.
I never saw that ending coming! Mr. Dixon was seriously intense. That old guy was sharp as a tack and didn't mess around. The lesson? Trust no one. Linette knocked it out of the park again—76 pages of pure craziness! I highly recommend this short read.
Whew.... first read by this author, and I am hooked!! Mason's greedy ass got caught up and needed to get some quick money. So, he enlisted the help of two friends to help him with a heist. Well, best laid plans garnish the best results. Sometimes, I guess. However, these fools ain't plan a damn thang and it showed. 😤
Mr. Dixon was a frail looking man, but don't let the physical appearance fool you. He was smart, calculating, and much stronger than he led on. Played these young men like a fiddle, and they never had a chance to figure anything out before it was too late. 🤦🏿♀️
Andrew, did you learn nothing from your previous bids? You said that you had a bad feeling about this from the beginning, yet you didn't follow your gut? After all that happened, you did the ONE thing you were asked not to do, and look where it got you? 👀 Mr. Dixon showed you not to play in his face, and you get years to think about your decision. Again! 🤬
We need more of Mr. Dixon. Please let there be a backstory in the works, as I would love to know more about him. I am shook after this read, but I loved it! 👍🏾👍🏾
I bet you won't think about messing with old folks based on looks after reading Mr Dixon! 😂
If you are looking for a quick, face paced thriller then here's one for you. Mason, Andrew - Cedric thought they were just gonna roll up on Mr Dixon & get the job done. But they didn't know who Mr Dixon knew or what he was capable of.
This was twisty & suspenseful with a touch of horror. Definitely kept me curious through the end! (Simone, you good?!)
This book grabs you from the very start and doesn't let go until the last word. A great way to start my 2025 reading journey! A must read! This is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more from her.
Fascinating short story, makes you wonder what is real and what is not. Everyone has the right to believe what they want and to act on their beliefs or not!
Terrible! Undeveloped characters, weak plot. Who is Simone? Why did Mr. Dixon take her mother’s ashes? Why is she just now wanting them? Was Andrew married or nah because in the beginning he stated that Angela was his girlfriend.
Mason, Cedric and Andrew were all emotionally fragile
This had so much potential but, the writing isn’t strong. Nothing about the story gave Psychological Thriller
Wasted my time with this on this good ol’ Resurrection Sunday
Strong Start, Rushed Finish The cover is phenomenal and the story pulled me in right away—Mr. Dixon was nothing to play with! It definitely grabbed my attention early on, but the ending felt rushed and left too many loose ends. I needed more closure, especially around certain characters. Symone?? And why was Mr. Dixon holding onto her mother’s ashes? Andrew’s downfall came way too fast—it felt like his guilty conscience kicked in and then boom, everything was over. It wasn’t a bad read, just felt like it needed more depth toward the end.

Andrew, Cedric, and Mason set out to rob Mr. Dixon’s house to retrieve a chest. When they arrive, they are met with an uncanny surprise! Mr. Dixon is not who they thought he was, will they succeed in getting this mysterious chest? And, what does this chest contain? You will need to read this short thriller and find out! It’s entertaining, interesting, and a fast read!
My only issue with this book is that it abruptly ended. I need answers and I’m hoping a prequel will come!
