Liar: Obsession is the disease, but love is the cure.

Rate this book
“She’s my craving. My compulsion. My sweetest f*cking ache.”

Stephen Nichols saw her once—lit up in red, dancing like the world couldn’t touch her.

And from that moment, he was ruined.
Crystal became his obsession.
His secret.
His reason.

For a year, he watched from the shadows—
Silent. Devoted. Dangerous.

Now she’s in trouble in his club. Bloody dress. Assaulted.

So Stephen does what he’s always wanted to do:
He steps in. Takes control.
Becomes her bodyguard.
Her saviour.
Her sin.

But some lies bury more than the truth.

And the deeper he gets, the harder it is to let her go.

Liar is a dark, stalker romance about power, possession, and the fine line between obsession and love.

The MMC Stephen wants Crystal the FMC, and will do anything to get close to her and have her for himself. He stalked her for over a year after all... and we all love a good stalker here... right? No? Just me then?! Haha!

Anyways Stephen has gone to extreme lengths to make their paths collide and now they have, things get heated very quickly. Crystal is the beautiful curvaceous redhaired beauty. Who may also be a badass! Very fast pace which makes reading this a dream. Dual POV’s which I always love but most of it is in the MMC POV! This kept me on my toes and wanting more.

The chemistry between these two was just so wicked to see, especially as things ramped up. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the books hold within their kinky pages.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this story, but then again, I love a good stalker plot and dark love interest. Actually, Stephen's a bit of a cinnamon roll - sticky on the outside but with a soft and gooey center.
The plot kept me guessing until the end (plot twist) and I love the possibility of a sequel with the supporting characters. Let's hope Rosie Sloane can keep the momentum going with the next book in the series.

As a longtime fan of stalker dark romance, I was genuinely excited to dive into this book. The premise had me hooked right away: a famous pop star caught in the obsessive crosshairs of two stalkers—each dangerously in love with her, though one clearly poses a greater threat. The tension was palpable, and the setup promised a twisted, addictive ride.

The heroine herself was a fascinating character, grappling with a complex and intense mental health diagnosis that deeply influences her behavior. Her hypersexuality and need to seek emotional validation through sex added layers of vulnerability and rawness to her story.

There’s no denying the story had strong potential. The bones of something really good were there—but the execution sometimes fell short. I found myself confused by sudden jumps in the narrative, and more than once, I wondered if I had accidentally started in the middle of a series. But as far as I could tell, this was book one.

I kept hoping the gaps would close and the missing links would come together. Some scenes were powerful, even addictive, and I really wanted this to be a solid four-star read. But unfortunately, the disjointed pacing and lack of cohesion held it back for me.

This book had flashes of brilliance—it just needed more connective tissue to bring the whole story together.

I received a free ARC of this book, and this review is only my opinion

I’m a sucker for a dark stalker romance and Rosie Sloane delivers. Liar is dark, fast paced, spicy with twists.
This story has had a rework/revamp and I liked it the first time round but really enjoy it this time round. Stephan still leaves me questioning a lot of things. I will admit sometimes this borderlines toxic but I still enjoyed it.

I absolutely loved this storyline and the way it was written. Honestly, the only reason I gave it a 4 was just due to the fact that towards the end of the book, the climax of the plot happened so fast and was a bit unclear, I didn't realize what was going on until after it happened when it was better described. The spice level wasn't too high (at least for me) but it definitely had some good scenes. Can't wait to read Francesca POV.

Liar by Rosie Sloane

Romance | Dual POV

•Stephen will do anything to be with Crystal. After stalking her for more than a year, she offers Stephen a job as her bodyguard. Will Stephen get his wish of having Crystal?
•I think there is a fine line with having a fast-paced book but also having a plot that doesn’t have any holes. I’m sure this would be hard to achieve as a writer. But I’m interested to see what Rosie produces next.

Feels: like it really had me hooked at times

Oh, you wanted a book that was just a little spicy? A little twisted? A little “he might wear your panties as a face mask and call it foreplay”? Well, buckle up, buttercup—Rosie Sloane’s Liar is not here to flirt. It’s here to stalk, seduce, and completely derail your sense of moral compass.

🖤 The Vibe:
• Mood: Unhinged meets sensual—like falling in love inside a crime scene
• Genre: Dark romance / psychological thriller / obsession-core
• Pacing: Fast enough to keep your heart rate elevated, but with pauses for emotional gut punches and steamy chaos

💋 What’s It About?

A global popstar with trauma wrapped in glam meets a “bodyguard” who’s actually been stalking her for over a year—and they fall into a relationship built on lies, lust, and deep psychological landmines. Sound healthy? It’s not. That’s the point.

Crystal is beautiful, damaged, and compulsively sexual in a way that’s both empowering and heartbreaking. Stephen? Oh, he’s not just morally gray—he’s pitch black with a dash of “break into your apartment and jack off on your skin.” But in a weird, completely messed-up way… you want them to work. (No, YOU need therapy.)

🧨 Trigger Warnings:
• Stalking
• Non-consensual sexual contact (especially while unconscious)
• Hypersexuality as a trauma response
• Mental illness (OCD, PTSD, hypersexuality disorder)
• Gaslighting / manipulation
• Violence / blood
• Power imbalance (intense)
• Identity confusion and obsession
• Dubious consent (multiple times)

This book does not flirt with red flags. It builds a blanket fort out of them and has a full-blown meltdown underneath.

💣 The Characters:
• Crystal: A pop princess with hypersexual compulsions, a devastating past, and a bodyguard-shaped problem.
• Stephen: The liar in question. Obsessed, possessive, highly intelligent, and fully prepared to sabotage your entire security detail just to become your “protector.”

They’re both disasters. Sexy, spiraling, deeply damaged disasters. And watching them spiral into each other is like watching a beautifully choreographed trainwreck.

⭐️ Rating: 4.75 / 5

Because it’s disturbing, it’s hot, and somehow it makes you root for a dynamic that, on paper, should be locked up and heavily medicated.

Would I trust Stephen with my life? Absolutely not.
Would I let him pin me to a wall and whisper that I’m his problem now? Also yes.

🍷 Final Thoughts:

Liar is not for the faint of heart. It’s erotically charged madness with stunning writing, gutting vulnerability, and enough wrongness to make you question your own tastes. It’s the kind of book you hide behind a Kindle screen while clutching your pearls… and fanning yourself with them.

You don’t read this book.
You survive it.

Emotionally vulnerable, full of tension, and beautifully written.

📖 Story: 4.5 ⭐️
🌶️ Spice 3.5 🌶️

*Liar* by Rosie Sloane is a dark stalker romance and the first book in a ten part interconnected series. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but characters are introduced in earlier installments. This was my first read in the series and it worked well on its own.

Crystal is a famous musician who looks flawless to the outside world. Behind the curtain she struggles with trauma, shame over her mental health diagnoses, and the constant need to put on a polished smile. While she earns millions for her record label, inside she is breaking.

Stephen became obsessed with her the moment she walked into his bar a year earlier. He follows her constantly, knows her secrets, and sees the sides of her that no one else does. He knows about her compulsive sexual behavior, her diagnosis, and how it worsens under stress. He violates her trust again and again, yet he cannot walk away. When danger forces him into the role of her head of security, he must decide whether he can keep the truth hidden or if she will finally uncover it.

**Tropes:**
✅ Stalking by the MMC and others
✅ Non consensual assault (by MMC), while sleeping
✅ He falls first
✅ Lying
✅ Gaslighting
✅ Love bombing
✅ Possessive and obsessive MMC
✅ “Do not touch her” energy
✅ Trauma and mental health representation
✅ Hurt and comfort
✅ Found family
✅ Smoking hot tension but not a slow build
✅ Kinks including domination and submission
✅ Dark subject matter, so check trigger warnings

I received this book as an ARC through Book Siren in exchange for an honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Stalker romance is my favorite subgenre and it can be hard to find one that feels unique. This book managed it. I loved how Stephen was protective not only of Crystal’s safety but also of her mental health and spiraling thoughts. Their connection felt raw, believable, and was written in a poetic style.

I had not read Rosie Sloane before, so after finishing I went on Goodreads to learn more. Some reviews confused me because they described things that were not in the version I read. I discovered that the book was recently rewritten in first person dual POV and updated based on reader feedback. While I cannot compare to the original, I thought this edition was strong and compelling. I usually duel POV so I’m really glad it was edited.

The series is available on Kindle Unlimited. I am not sure if all the books have been updated to match this style, but I hope so. There is no audiobook yet, but it would be incredible with dual narration.

“enjoyed liar?” NO I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT.

people say hate is a strong word, and guess what: i hate this book. and i am a fan of stalker romances but this was horrendous.

stephan stalks crystal for a year, sneaking into her apt, watching her through cameras, standing over her as she sleeps and jerking off and then leaving his cum on her, stealing her underwear and other things, the works right? in the meantime, hes this club owner or something and crystal interacts with him when she goes to this club but nothing ever happens between them. that is until she gets into a fight with someone at said club one night and stephan carries her off, declaring himself her new security guard (he kills her old one) and practically attaching them at the hip. he moves in with her and her grandparents (and now i may be mistaken but i thought they were from the uk, but they’re living in new york, and i’m just very confused). crystal volunteers at a homeless shelter (i think?) and the paparazzi find out and trash the place or something, so crystal decides to host charity concerts around the city for and with the homeless. while all this is going on, crystal is dealing with another stalker who has been leaving her roses and notes for years. her and stephan start hooking up, stephan says he loves her, crystals best friend who also is some kind of agent to her is pissed because everyone like stephan and clearly he wants crystal, blah blah blah. crystal finds out that stephan watches her but that turns her on, so they keep fucking. then the best friend, owen, reveals that stephan had been stalking her for way longer than she was aware of, so she flips out and sends him away. luckily, he doesnt go far because turns out (and i called this at the beginning) owen was the rose stalker and had plans to kill crystal, her grandparents, and then himself, so when he goes after her, stephan kills him and saves the day. crystal forgives him (took absolutely zero effort she folded so easily) and they wind up together.

this book was insane. and not in a good way. the actual writing was fine, but the story was horrible and so was the way it was written. stephan is the kind of man to hit his head and say “stupid stupid stupid” when he’s upset and crystal is the biggest pick me it was unbearable. at the end they were apparently going to therapy twice a week GO AHEAD AND UP THAT TO 7 DAYS A WEEK

I guess you could call Crystal a sex addict. Or maybe more accurately a sex coper. She’s a global superstar drowning in pressure and the relentless chaos of pop-star life, and sex is how she survives it all. A coping mechanism. A stress response. Okay, so she’s damaged, not “normal”, whatever that may mean, but then neither is Stephen. Stephen is an obsessed, intensely possessive stalker… pardon, bodyguard. Stephen has been stalking…sorry, watching Crystal for the last 12 months. Studying her. Memorizing her laugh, her stride, her every habit. Is he dangerous? That’s for the reader to decide. What’s certain is that he’s dangerous to her control. His one semi-redeeming quality? He knows it’s wrong. That awareness, however, does absolutely nothing to stop him. When Crystal is attacked at his club, Stephen finally gets the opening he’s been waiting for—the excuse to move closer, tighten his grip, and blur the line between protection and possession. I love stalker romances, and this one gives you far more than you bargain for. Stephen will have you seesawing between head-shaking disbelief at how thoroughly he violates Crystal’s trust and swooning at how fiercely he worships and protects her. The truly heartbreaking part is watching Crystal slowly come to trust him, believing she’s finally found someone who understands her mental struggles and accepts her as she is. But what happens when she discovers the truth? When she learns just how far he’s gone? Especially when there’s very real danger lurking in the background? Of course, this is Rosie Sloane, so yes, a hefty portion of the book is gloriously smutty. Rosie delivers heat like a pro, crafting sex scenes that are intense, addictive, and unapologetically explicit. Crystal won’t be the only one left squirming—Stephen sees to that. Another dark, delicious winner from Rosie Sloane.

HES FOLLOWED HER FOR A YEAR

Stephen and Crystal. Shes a model. He watches her while shes sleeping. He marks her while she sleeps. Hes a memory she cant remember. At work she feels his eyes on her but theres no one. Shears something. A man in a black hoodie walking away. She dresses for them but carries her blade for her. Theres Stephen..he calls and leaves messages with her assistaint. She goes to his nightclub where sometimes he watches, sometimes they exchange glances, sometimes they talk. They play this game. They dance around each other. Hes about to make his move and then it happens. Shes attacked he wisks her to his office and the talk and the banter and the thoughts omg are so hot it melts.

Great story how they play this game of theirs. Back and forth. Their dance. Then hes her bodyguard. Emotions are all over the place. Chaotic and twisted. Hes also the stalker that doesnt have to hide in the shadows anylonger. The lies are revealed. Great story great charecters. All synced and flowed together like breathless tension and coming home.

Liar by Rosie Sloan 3.75/5
I want to preface this by saying I came so close to a 4.5 or 5 star rating but the toxicity that I loved within the book was also a large part of why I couldn’t.

There is very accurate portrayal of Crystal and her mental illnesses. The depiction of how it feels to be stalked is spot on and how it completely alters your perception/life force is on the nose.

I knew going in this book contained darker themes and I am always a sucker for a dark smutty book because seeing someone process their trauma in realistic or even unrealistic ways can help survivors. This book was heavy on the smut but the scenes were well written and in depth, it wasn’t rushed and while there was a lot of smut (multiple chapters to one scene) it wasn’t overpowering. Plot was present and watching Crystal heal within the confines of surviving AND being re-traumatized.

On to how I factored my rating, I absolutely despised Stephen as a character. He developed throughout and did become self aware but his behaviors just left me feeling uneasy.

✨ARC REVIEW ✨

Liar is book one of the Lovestruck Series. This is the first book i've read by this author, and I definitely want to read her other books. I like a good stalker romance and this one kept me on the edge of my seat from the first chapter. It’s fast paced and spicy. The story has a dual POV but it’s told mostly from Stephen’s POV.

Crystal is a pop singer with a dangerous stalker and Stephen’s job is to protect Crystal but he is obsessed with Crystal and has been stalking her for a whole year and wants her for himself. The spice and chemistry between them was great. I liked the dark side of Stephen and the soft side of him as well. I liked the plot and twists. I recommend this book!!!!

✨Fav quotes from the Book✨

“I’ll strip her down and give her exactly what she’s been begging for”

“I’d never sacrifice her to save the world - I’d watch it burn and smile at the ashes, so long as she stayed with me”

“Shut the F**k up and get on your knees like the GOOD GIRL you are. I’ve waited long enough to feel your wet mouth again” 🤭

Another hit for me in Rosie's dark, deep, obsessive stories.

Crystal may be a strong, independent woman, but there is a side of her that will always be submissive; she needs the right man to meet those needs.

Stephen has been obsessed with her for a year, in the guise of safety. Someone has to look out for her, but lines have been crossed that he can't undo. When Stephen eventually takes his place at her side, and he falls deeper for her, what will she do if she finds out the lengths he has gone to? Is he too close to her, to protect her properly, as he's so blinded by his obsession?

Crystal finally believes she has found that one person who 'gets her'. Who can love all of her? Who has the patience and the love to give her what she craves? But when she finds out how far Stephen has crossed the line, can she ever come back from the betrayal?

A steamy, dark story about obsession where the MMC finds out that if he truly loves the person he craves the most, he may have to do the one thing he doesn't want.

Two stalkers. One pop star. And a dangerous game of obsession. 🌹

📖 Liar by Rosie Sloane
⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
Genre: Stalker romance

Crystal is a pop star haunted by two stalkers — one is Stephen, the enigmatic owner of a security company she hires to protect her, and the other is a mysterious stranger leaving roses and notes in his wake.

The first couple of chapters had me intrigued — the premise promised tension and danger, and I was ready for it. But as the story went on, I felt a big disconnect. The writing didn’t flow smoothly for me, and I often found myself confused about who was who and how they were connected, especially when Owen appeared.

Stephen’s character had potential — he’s an oxymoron of danger and care, which I actually loved for him — but I didn’t quite feel the chemistry between him and Crystal. I knew it was there on paper, but emotionally, it didn’t land. It leaned more on telling rather than showing, and that made it hard for me to fully connect with the story or characters, even though I really wanted to.

Thank you BookSirens and Rosie Sloane for this ARC!

Liar by Rosie Sloane was was a wonderfully enjoyable stalker dark romance that will leave you begging for more.

This story follows our protagonist as she tried to maneuver her way through her life in the spotlight, with two very eager stalkers. I devoured this book and soon became obsessed with one of the main characters, Stephen, who deep down, is secretly a green flag.

Liar was fast paced, addictive and smutty af. Sloane writes their character's in a way that leaves you deeply invested in their life, or genuinely hating every fibre of their being (which of course is what Rosie has intended).

My only flaw for Liar was that the ending seemed very rushed. The final third of the book escalated very quickly in comparison to earlier on in the story. The big climatic scene seemed to happen out of no where and was over just as quick.

Overall however, Liar was such an enjoyable read with wonderful smut and lovable characters. I really look forward to reading more from Rosie Sloane in the future!

Thank you so much to BookSirens and the author for an arc copy of Liar. All opinions are mine and have been left voluntarily.

"Obsession is the disease, but love is the cure."

Who's the Liar?

Heart-pounding stalker romance.
His obsession knows no limit. The story is fast-paced and so addictive. I inhaled this book. It's dark, steamy, and so delicious. I was blushing and squealing as I was reading. If you've ever had a stalker fantasy this one is for you.

Dual POV

Crystal she's a popstar, she's a liar. "Smile. Pose. Pretend." That's her life. She's numb to her world. She has a secret or so she thinks.

Stephen is a wealthy club owner and her stalker. He's obsessed, possessive, and the morally gray man of our dreams. The lengths he goes to for her, gahhh! AND he's a dirty talker, the things he said had me squirming.

Their intense attraction and connection were red HOT. I loved the characters, they were well written. How he integrates himself into her life so seamlessly and makes himself indispensable was genius. He's calculating and patient.

LOVED that HEA! I absolutely recommend this one, can't wait to read more by Rosie Sloane. Stalk you soon ;)

This is the first book i've read by this author, and I definitely want to read more of her. She has a fast paced writingstyle getting you on the edge of your seat and keeping you there 'till the book is done. The stalkerfibes were put on page in an amazing way. It gave me the chills while reading.

The book is told mostly from Stephen his POV and a few chapters from Crystal her POV. I liked reading from both, you'll get an inside in both their lives and the way they act around each other and getting closer was just nice to read.

The spice was good! The chemistry between Crystal and Stephen was put together nicely and steamy. I liked the dark side of Stephen. 🔥 The plottwists in the book had me on the edge of my seat.

I can't wait to read more from this series.

I knew who the black rose person was wayyy earlier. Call it intuition.
As we know this book is a dark romance and stalker-ish obsessive, we Obv want them to end up together.

That aside, I wouldn't wish this on anyone irl.
Maybe that's why we read things like this a lot lol

He's her bodyguard. Self appointed.
He took on this role knowing about her. Much more. Way more than anyone ever did and would. His secret could not remain a secret for long.
I liked how stephen knows how to be in control. Be the one who can tame her. Take her places she needs to, wants to go. Be her safe place and her unraveling.

Crystal was easy to understand. To relate. To feel.

This book has now been revamped and oh my god! I honestly didn’t think it could be any better than the original but I was so so wrong!! I love the extra details that Rosie Sloane has added as well the spice 🔥🔥

I’ve left my original review below just as an addition, as it all still stands!!

I absolutely loved this book. There was a great storyline and plot that developed throughout the book. Plenty of twists and turns and I screamed at my kindle in frustration at one point - thankfully it was all part of the plan.

I absolutely love Stephen and Crystal. And loved watching their relationship grow and blossom. I love that Stephen has a soft side to him that was shown multiple times throughout the book.

This was an easy read and if you enjoy a dark stalker romance you will probably like it. It has an enjoyable twist towards the end that gives it some added depth. I do prefer stalker romance to have a bit more cat and mouse with the stalking aspect. So my only real criticism is that the two MCs meet up and become involved very very quickly. Something that should probably be tagged is that FMC uses sex as a coping mechanism. It is stated in the story very early on however, which is helpful at least. So if that's not your vibe you can dnf. The ending comes up quickly, but given the circumstances of what happens it makes sense that it's quick. Those sorts of things in life usually are.

Whewwww 😅 I like a good stalker romance and this one kept me on my toes from the first chapter. In the book, it follows Crystal and Stephen on a fast paced, whirlwind of an emotional rollercoaster. Thank you to the author and Naughty Nook PR for the book.

I mean, when I tell you that Stephen had me grasping my invisible pearls I was over here like OH MY GOD 😳 I also need to know about these bacon ribs and why there wasn’t a recipe in the book for me to make them bc every time they were mentioned I got so sad I didn’t have any either. I can’t wait to continue the story bc ya girl needs to know about Frankie’s journey…

Oh, Ms. Sloane…this is an impressive beginning for your new Lovestruck series. The pace of the book was quick and was over too soon, because I didn’t want it to end. The cover of the book is on point, because it looks like a creepy stalker-person peeking out of the hoodie. Stephen was the stalker and his prey was Crystal. Stephen had been stalking Crystal for years, and when he finally decided it was time they met, the chemistry was off the charts. Great plot, great pace, great twists, great story! I highly recommend this book for fans spicy, dark, stalker, suspense romance.
